Does anyone know if its possible to assign the car mode navigation to be copilot live rather than Google navigation or HTC?

Don't think so. I have it installed, but the options in settings still only offer Google or Locations.

Does copilot premium work for you, it just crashes every time I put into landscape

Copilot seems to work fine on one x but not used in anger yet.

Co pilot works fine for me. Not used it in landscape mode though. Prefer portrait.

No, it is not possible. Car mode is useless; it is locked to use only htc locations or google for nav, and only tunein for streaming radio (even if you own TuneIn Pro.)
I'm usin Sygic and except for two silent crashes, it runs perfectly.

I think you can use tunein pro if you desactivate the normal one in apps settings..

Nope, not in Car mode. Believe me, I've tried. TuneIn is disabled in Setings :: Apps, but can still be launched by the Car mode app, and can't be replaced. Nor is it ijntelligent enough to pick up favorites from the Pro version, so yoiu have to maintain two sets of favorites.

Also, you can install the Google Car mode instead of using the included one.
You'll be able to add and/or remove all the apps you want.
Works quite fine here, but a little laggy.
About CoPilot, I have many crashes when I use it for a while (more than 2 hrs), landscape or portrait.

Yeah, I'll likely have to install a third-party Car mode. Makes me wonder though; supposedly HTC's Car mode pops up automatically when you use the car dock. I wonder if that can be disabled or changed to another program?

In settings under Dock mode there is an option "Default action". It has the following options:
Show HTC dock screen
Open app
Do nothing
When I press open app it doesn't let me select an app so I'm guessing it either opens car mode or (and I hope this is the one but I dont have a dock to test it) when you dock it it lets you select an app (for example google car) and saves the option.

All you have to do is set up a tunein account, then log in to the account with tunein and tunein pro. your favourites upload to your account. voila one set of presets/favourites
Good tip. I Does regular TuneIn still show ads in Car mode? I haven't bothered trying it yet.

CoPilot 8
Hi,
Anyone using CoPilot 8 with their One X? Recently installed it & works very well with the exception that I cannot access the bottom of the screen (menu, hide & exit options) because the 3 dot menu covers it. This occurs in both portrait & landscape modes.
Anyone experiencing this and is there a workaround? Noticed on ALK's website that there is an update for the HTC One X however believe this is only for Premium versions...
You can use Tasker to launch whatever config you want (including apps) when the phone is docked and undocked. Easiest way is to use a tasker profile to detect when the phone docs.
Got mine configured to launch Bluetooth to connect to my handsfree, shut of Wifi, turn the volume up to max and launch a sat nav app then undo all that when undocked. I stopped using the Car app when I found the limitations being described here.

Yes, that is what I use instead. Nuts to HTC’s Car Mode.
I’ve set up a ‘Car Mode On’ task and assigned it to a Tasker launch widget on a home screen. I press it and Tasker runs through the following;
1. Screen Brightness: 90%
2. GPS: On
3. Bluetooth: On
4. 3G: Off (I don’t need it for CoPilot, maps on SD card plus I don’t want e-mails etc distracting me. )
5. Auto Sync: Off (Same reasons as above)
6. Media Volume: 100%
7. Wait for 1 second
8. Launch App: CoPilot
I added step 7 as if CoPilot launches too soon after GPS has activated, it *****es up about GPS being off even though Tasker has turned it on. Stops the need bring up the menu just to turn GPS off and on again.
(On my previous phone (Desire S) I also had Tasker drop CPU back to 66% to prevent overheating. Doesn’t seem to work yet on One X but I’ll keep trying. I tested it using System Tuner. Told Tasker to drop CPU 0 to 760Mhz when System Tuner runs. I opened System Tuner, and although the slider for setting CPU speed had responded to Tasker’s command and had set to 760Mhz, I could see from the CPU monitor that it was still going up to 1.5Ghz.)
As this is just a Tasker Widget that executes a pre-set task, you don’t get the exit tasks turning everything back to normal when you end your journey and close CoPilot. So I added a ‘Car Mode Off’ Task and associated widget which basically reverses steps 1 to 6.

Can you get tasker to shut down copiot fully when you leave dock mode? I find that it still runs in the background with the GPS still switched on. I haven't rooted yet though so can't use that option

I am a new to the desire and i must say that i am impressed by this phone. Alnmost everything works without ever reading the manual. Compliments to that.
The sync with Exchange is outstanding and i must say that i am overall impressed.
On thing that bugs me is there is no easy way to switch profiles. For now i have to press and hold the power button. after a wile i get a screen where i can choose .... Is there a better way to get this functionality (widget) or something ?
SilentMode OnOff (CurveFish) from the Market works for me.
Gives a toggle switch that cycles through the modes.
I use Quick Profiles (http://uk.androlib.com/android.application.softxperience-android-quickprofiles-jFB.aspx) - it's free in the market and it works well for me.
is there a piece of software that can auto switch the profiles based either on time of day or on location?

Hey guys,
Here's the scenario: I'm driving along. My Desire is in the car holder performing GPS duties. The Keepscreen app is keeping the display alive. All is good in the world. Then, I get a call. I answer it on my bluetooth headset. It's my agent telling me the UK and US leaders would like my opinion. Same as always.
Now here's the problem. When I hang up, I'm taken back to my lock screen, not the maps that I want to go back to.
Is there any way to automatically get back to the maps (without having to go through the faff of turning off the security lock screen every time I want to use the GPS then turning it back on when I finished)?
dont use keepscreen smu.
google leaves the screen on anyway.
i bet your app is bringing you back to the lockscreen after call since i never had such experience...
i dont have this problem.

Does it? I got KeepScreen because my Google Maps didn't stay on. I can't test it right now because my phone is in for repairs, but this is interesting. I was pretty sure Google Maps didn't have this feature.

It comes free with google maps.
Don't know what countries it supports though.
GB is supported by the Nav app afaik, otherwise search for maps.brut14.apk in here!

There's an option in the settings to keep the screen on when plugged into a power source.

How do I do this? Because though it is a car dock, the phone has no way of knowing as it's simply in a holder with a charging cable that goes into the cigarette lighter charging port.

True. But this is a bit of a bodge and more for developers. One of the things is that I don't want to spend my time going in to settings and changing settings everytime I want to use it as a gps, and then have to change it back when I come out of my car. I wouldn't want this feature on constantly as it would excessively wear out the screen since I'm charging the phone outside the car much more than inside the car.
You could use Settings Profile app to change the settings based on the conditions in the car.
I use this to detect that I'm not at home, not at work, and plugged into a USB charger, so must be in the car.
I can then set the screen always on, start the Car Dock app etc...
Works well for me.

Good idea.
Though one thing has just come up. People are getting Froyo now, which has a car mode built in. Anyone have any experience with it? I'm still hoping to get my phone back by tuesday so can't check it out.
Can any one help me? Every time I plug in my car charger into my desire, Car Home seem keep launching itself regardless closing it. I cant find the way to turn the auto run off. (i got a rooted desire with LeeDroid 1.8 installed)
I have read something about this being to do with magnets in the dock in the car. Other than not using the dock or removing the embedded magnets (or uninstalling) then Car Home will run as soon as the phone detects the magnets in the holder. I may just be chatting crap however LOL
Have you gone to the settings of the car phone app and turned off auto launch?

the Desire does not have magnets in it but can detect magnetism hence the metal detector apps that you can download.

You have HTC's Car Panel, as opposed to Google's Car Home - both do pretty much the same thing though.

I read somewhere that the it launcher due to one of the pins in the car charger, that is or is not present on a standard data usb cable, This cause it to launch, Well so i've read.
1- standard car home doesnt let u choose ur own navigation, which is pretty lame, 2- its auto run is extremely annoying. 'custom car home' a lot better and friendly, also u can set it as default car home

I just downloaded and setup Llama. So far it has been very handy in letting me adjust my settings based on whether I am at work or home.
However, I attempted to setup an event to toggle GPS on when I open the Maps application and to turn off GPS when I close the application. However, it doesn't do so! It did note that it cannot do this on ICS as the permissions to do so have changed. However, via Google Search, I did find some mention of it working for some people but they didn't say how.
Anyone here able to do that? If so, how? If not, any other suggestions (Tasker?) on how I can accomplish this?
It doesn't work on stock. Use custom ROM like CM.

You probably already got your answer or quit looking by now but you can toggle gps. You need to use the Secure Settings plugin from the Play Store. I think you might need to be a root user to unlock all the functionality as was mentioned before but mine works like a charm now.
Another great find for me was using the Smart Shortcuts app so that when I plug in my headphones, llama turns down my volume to a manageable level and pops up a list of apps (pandora, google music, stitcher...) I use my headphones with. I do the same for when I plug in any USB, it pops up with a link to care home or clock or my alarm app because I'm usually only plugging in at night or in the car.
I just wish I had some other ideas to look through. I'm sure there is a lot more this thing can do that I'm not thinking about.

I think there is an explanation in the app. Google changed how gps could be toggled. I gave up turning off gps a long time ago. It really only uses power when an app requests it and judging by the notification it's not very often. By default llama uses cell towers, but I use wifi to pin point my location. That way my Bluetooth doesn't turn off until I reach my driveway.

Hello!
Anyone bought the official HTC car holder aka D110?
I want to know if you can stick it to the dashboard instead of window, if yes are you using 3M?
I'm still waiting for mine. But i suspect that the HTC One X dock will come with the same type of 3M glue/metal plate that the Nexus One dock had so you can attach the dock anywhere on the dash.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCsMqykgcbc
I wonder if it can take the HOX with a case like Rock ones
I got one from here only place I could find that has stock, it comes with a shiny black plastic disk that has 3M sticky tape on one side so it can be mounted on your dash.
quite a snug fit not sure if it will take a phone with a case

It can but is a very tight fit. The Micro USB connector can still be connected but the 3.5mm audio jack cannot.
Can you use any app or it's sticked to Car app when you put the HOX in it?
you can disable the auto launch feature in the stock HTC car home so you should be able to access anything rather than the limited app drawer in car mode
not used it enough yet but did manage to convice HTC car home to use Sygic (12.1 beta) as the default navigation app

How did you managed that (sygic)?
just got one of these and it seems to disable cyberon voice commander when car home is active. Its easy to sort by disabling the autolaunch but has anyone found a setting/app that allows car home to run and still be able to use bluetooth voice dialing?
How did you change the default navigation app in HTC car home? Anyone know a way? I like the car home app, but sure would like to be able to change the apps (navigation, music, and radio). The provided solution from Htc is customized to the car home app, but a choice could be provided to change them to any apps. Of course in most cases you loose the tailored layout to car view, but a normal short cut to apps would be appriciated I think.
