So I've done a lot of searching for this one, but I'm really not finding the answers I'm looking for.
I've got an AT&T R800AT locked bootloader with no intentions of unlocking at the moment. I'm trying to find the best stock ROMs that will work with my phone, but everything I find says r800x or r800i. Will either of those work with mine? I tried out the Darkforest ROM last time and it soft bricked my phone. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Most roms aren't designed for our phones. Almost all are based off of stock 2.3.4. I had the same issues as you, I would suggest rooting and flashing generic 2.3.4 via flashtool. You will not regret it.

I tried that and ran into an issue. Loved the 2.3.4, but I couldn't send or receive mms messages. It just kept saying to check my device's settings. Have you ran into that?

You probably need to setup the correct apn for mms once you flashed. Roms for r800i will work with the r800at. I am using Darkforest 3.1.0 and really liking it.
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk
I'll definitely have to try that one. I checked all my apn settings, and they were all correct. So I was stumped.
Tried that one and got softbricked again. This thing just doesn't like roms apparently.
What do you mean by soft bricked? What process did you do to install it?
Put it on my SD card and installed with cwm. Softbrick is when it will do nothing but hang on the Sony Ericsson screen
Did you try flashing 3.1.0 or 3.0.5? I had issues going straight from stock AT&T build to darkforest. I ended up flashing to the generic 2.3.4 then to 3.0.5 then finally to 3.1.0.
Tried 3.05. I figured that I need to flash to 2.3.4 then try it since I believe that's what it's based on. I'm on 2.3.4 right now and pretty satisfied with it. I'm mainly just trying to speed this phone up so my games don't lag as badly. I'll eventually have to unlock the bootloader and overclock.
The past few days would have been the time to do that as omnius made it free for 4 days.
Whaaaaat?! Oh well. I'm back to my same old problem with 2.3.4. Try to download the mms & internet settings and it says it can't and to go to the Sony Ericsson website from my PC to get the settings. And of course they aren't there. I put in my APN settings with no problem there, just mms says to check my settings.

Why no 3g? you in a 3g dead zone?
Dude it's ridiculous. I work for AT&T, and we have no 3G for about 30 minutes in any direction from our store.
Wow...no microcell setup on your network?
Ooh they have the microcells, but very little DSL around here. The town where I work only has it off the main highway, even some places in the same complex can't get it. From my home, no DSL for about a 15 mile radius.
After we flash 2.3.4 can we flash custom roms from that? Or just sticking with generic 2.3.4 till later?
Thanks guys, read a little harder and saw
"r800i works for r800at"
Opens a whole new world to me, Thanks.
#4GXperiaPlayOwners.
Right now I'm sticking to my generic 2.3.4 because, honestly, I'm getting gun shy with ROMs on this phone. Already soft bricked 3 times, and backing up and resorting is getting old. All part of the game though.

I have been wrestling with this issue for some days now. When I connect my Xperia Arc to a Wi-Fi network, absolutely everything works and plays. However, when I am only connected to the mobile 3G network, some apps won’t work. YouTube, Market, Weather, Maps, etc. will just hang there with a blank screen loading. I know the data connection is working when connected to the mobile network because I can use the browser, send and receive emails, sync contacts, etc. I can go to Wikipedia, for instance, and search for any topic I want.
In the particular case of playing videos from YouTube, I have the problem either with the app or if I try to play them directly from the browser on the YouTube site. I can search for the videos, get the thumbnails but it will not play them.
I am running LT15a firmware version 2.3.3. I have flashed back and forth 4 times already between the Rogers branded firmware and the generic north America one. I have tried hard resets (factory) as well. I have played with different settings when defining the APN. I am getting tired of re-entering all the settings over and over trying different things.
My phone is unlocked with a Telus SIM Card.
I will appreciate any help to resolve this.
Cheers,

DONT HAVE ANY WORDS TO SAY MAN.
I rooted my Samsung T989 this morning, and I lost 4g connection. I noticed it a couple hours after rooting, so I didn't know if it was root related. I went to t-mobile, got a new galaxy after backing up with titanium backup, and rooted it again. Now, still no 4g. Has anyone else had this problem? How do I fix it?
Edit: I have no data at all, it's not just 4g that's missing.
ummm idk whats wrong with your rooting process, but rooting has nothing to do with data. which method did u use to root your phone? and have you used a custom rom yet?
I used the clockwork mod with odin. No custom roms, just rooted, installed busybox, and titanium backup.
Anyone? I really don't want to unroot my phone.
Do you have an active apn?

I've read some posts on here concerning a problem with MMS on tmobile. Is this a widespread issue or a few select people who aren't too familiar with specific APN settings and such? I have the GN in my shopping cart and am ready to buy but this is a huge issue for me as I need MMS to be functional. Can people with the GN on tmobile shed some light on this?
Thank you!

well first off theres a couple issues.
first is MMS not working, the fix for this is just to put in the APN settings and your good to go.
The second and much more serious issue, is getting MMS pictures that are INSANELY small. something like 125pixels. Right now, there are a couple fixes going around, one that forces you to use goSMS, and a couple rom fixes.
but for now those are the only ways to fix it if you have that issue. I do and mike from android revolution rom has said he'll include the fix in his next release, which i really hope he does. i don't rely on MMS that much, but i do need to actually be able to see the messages i get.

Yeah, I presently use the Go SMS fix, which doesn't require root. However, I have already unlocked the bootloader and may be looking to root in the future. Are there any ROMs that allow you to change the User Agent for both the stock MMS app and for the stock web browser? That would be great.

you do need root to do this, but looks like it fixes the issue. and it is the ICS app so it's the same as stock.
I receive MMS just fine on T-Mobile. Is this issue random? Just curious, as I've had no problems so far.

I see. I'm sorry for those of you having the problem. I've had MMS problems in the past (not with this phone) and it was very annoying.
Any idea why some are affected and others aren't? Could it have anything to do w/ the SIM card (i.e., are people having problems using older SIMs)?
I remember reading about this in the HTC Desire section and the general consensus is that this is an issue affecting phones not supplied or T mobile branded. I had the same issue with Orange UK after I debranded my Desire.

Im on T-Mobile and experiencing this problem as well. Im not a fan of rooting or flashing ROMs so I chose the goSMS work around. This seems to only work sometimes as well. Email works also but you have to tell all your friends to email you instead of text which is annoying. Hopefully in the future Android can fix this and also allow group messaging that works with iPhones. Its my biggest gripe about Android.
Is the problem with sending mms, receiving mms, or both? And does it matter which carrier you're sending to or receiving from?

Good question. For me, while I havent tested it a bunch, is usually with receiving picture messages. The carriers they come from don't seem to matter, however, there seem to be issues with receiving iPhone picture messages. So far the goSMS app is the only messaging service that works most of the time. I dont like using goSMS at all but it'll do until a better fix comes about down the road.
I copied this exactly from how he wrote it, and it worked.
link
Download Go SMS Pro from the market.
Open Go SMS Pro and go to that app's Settings>Advanced>MMS Settings and change this:
User Agent: NexusOne ( SGH-T989 also works )
Put a check mark by 'Preserve image resolution.'
Next, go to the Go SMS Pro's Settings>Advanced>Important Tips and put a check mark by 'Stock SMS Uninstalled.'
After that, go to the Galaxy Nexus' APN settings (Settings>More...>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names) and make sure they say this:
Name: T-Mobile US
APN: epc.tmobile.com
Proxy: <Not set>
Port: <Not set>
Username: <Not set>
Password: <Not set>
Server: <Not set>

MMS Proxy: <Not set>

Send an MMS to yourself to test it out. After you send a pic, you should then receive two versions, a high-res pic and a lo-res pic. If you successfully receive both the high and lo-res pics, you may now go to the Galaxy Nexus' Settings>Apps>Messaging and disable the stock messaging app. You should now only receive a high res pic when you send yourself an MMS and when others send you an MMS.
I found that you must wait until the very last step to disable the stock messaging app in the GN's settings for this to work. Feel free to give this a try and post here if this works out for you guys.

If you factory reset it or flash the stock at&t ics and have an at&t sim in the phone you do not need to input any apn as it will download the settings for you.
Now if you did not have a LTE plan before getting the ion you will need AT&T to change your data plan to an LTE one. This does not cost anything extra and will not change anything other than allow you to use LTE. Even if you won't be using LTE in your area you need the LTE plan.

The ROM you're using shouldn't have any effect on the ability of the APN to work. The APN's are not based on the ROM you are using, rather they are carrier settings that determine if your phone will work on their network (I know you know that, I'm just stating the obvious so that *YOU* understand I also know what *I'M* talking about ).
Others will have to confirm if what you're stating is truly the case. Can anyone else comment, please?
Thanks!
