Lte chip - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

So when sprint roll out Lte, would it be somewhat possible to take apart our phones, get rid of wimax chip, and install Lte chip?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA

Unfortunately no.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk

Well, it'd need drivers for it to work. And we'll be on our own. In theory, it's possible, but incredibly unlikely.

Hmm, if you have access to precision micro soldering equipment and the knowledge to use it, sure....
Unfortunately, the radios in phones are very similar to processors and other components in that they are chips stuck on the motherboard. To further complicate things, there's a lot of hardware based instructions in SoCs that dictate what type of component is compatible with board.

Actually according to Samsung no.....the reason we got exynos CPUs in our phone was it would not work with lte ....the lte gs2 phones don't have exynos chips....that is why the att had a snapdragon...

When the time comes that Wimax is shut off, i sure hope sprint will do the right thing and offer free upgrades or a free LTE hotspot. With our luck, Sprint will offer this next year april 1st...
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium

Ha just buy a new phone if you want lte. Wimax will be around for a while anx they are still addi.g coverage areas. Heck today im out in the country in brenham tx and getting a wimax signal with decent speeds.

I hope Samsung updates the exynos chip in the gs3 to be compatible with lte if not its a nexus life for me(rhyme intended).

I'd like to know how I would port the sprint SPH-D700 to verizon

Like the title says. I've found how to port it to Metro PCS but not to verizon. How would I go around doing that.

I don't think its possible. 2 different satellites, stuff like that
Sent from my Epic with a lil' ice cream on it
Actually its possible but unsure if its legal. Verizon has cmda and this is a cdma phone. But it wouldn't be legal to get it to work on verizon. Prepaid networks care less what you do with esn's on other phones but big red doesn't allow flashing. But I could be wrong.

The exact phone pretty much on VZ is Samsung Stratosphere.
Differences is that Stratosphere is LTE, No HD Recording, No LED for Camera, 1.3mp versus our 0.3mp and you have panorama built in, stratosphere has BT 3.0 vs 2.1(Us), 802.11 a is added for Stratosphere, TTY/TDD on stratosphere and some type of hearing aid ability and GPS to track phone E911.
Mainly as a phone its pretty much got some newer features is all
It doesn't have stable cm9, BAM!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
And the stratosphere has a 1800 capacity battery like the epic touch but it's a different size them the touch.
Sent from a CM9 powered Epic.
I'd be more interested in porting the epic touch gs2 on Verizon would make me happy camper. Don't care about 4g. Hmmm

Galaxy Nexus April 15th?

Looks like it might be sooner then a few people thought. Yes we are happy with our S2's but still nice to know.

Yep can't wait
Hopefully this means we we'll see Samsung post the ics source around end of march/ beginning of April.

Intriguing but too bad a lot of people will be disappointed by the 3g speeds from sprint (especially if they have actually "good" "4g" wimax coverage)
Keeping my friend waiting between this or just buying the int'l version and getting the tmobile prepaid 4g plans...
What are the 200 LTE sites they are referring to in the article? I mean, are certain cities or states definitely going to have LTE when the phone launches and if so, which?

Do y'all think when LTE comes over to sprint that we can switch over from wimax to LTE?

More realistically if enough ppl complained maybe we can get sprint to give us a free upgrade to an LTE device
By the time LTE actually comes to your area, you'll probably be eligible for an upgrade anyway.
And why would you get a free upgrade? It's not like the WiMAX service is being shut down or anything.
There are theories, but nothing confirmed yet.

I called Sprint when the news that they were ending WiMax came out and they said that if I did not have 4G in my area they would allow me an earlier upgrade to an LTE phone with no penalties.
I had to push them for a while and escalate and bedazzle them with logic, but it worked.
But it was all for nothing since my phone will be put up for sale May 7th.

Precessors have nothing to do with it. The problem is with the antennas. We simply do not have the hardware for lte.
Nah, he is right about the Exynos. I forgot about it. We did hear it may be possible with a software reprogram. Still looking to confirm.

We as in ACS. We were in touch with a reliable source that I'd prefer not to name the origin of.
A few things...
LTE and WIMAX do require 2 different radios so if you wanted your device to switch between them it would have to have both radios built in.
Wimax is not going away anytime soon because we announced a new hotspot device which houses all of our radios aka "quadband".
Just a question; Why is complaining ever a solution? Technology moves like water. You jump in knowing that there is newer and better just up stream of you. Retail some how gives people a sence of entitlment which baffles me. You buy a car, do you complain the next year and say "well now there is a 2013 modle with x,y,z in it so I should get it for free".... just silly, baby town frolics even.

I kinda agree with what you're saying... I think what people are having an issue with is that they are stuck in contract with a non-lte phone. If you had to pay 5 times for that newer model car than what a new customer would pay, I bet you would be pretty upset too. I just hope my upgrade timing plays out perfectly to when lte is coming to chicago. That would be awesome.
On that meeting they had about network vision they did say about making lte work under Wimax or something like that I may be wrong thoe

T-Mobile will launch refreshed Galaxy S III with LTE support

Source: http://www.theverge.com/2013/1/8/38...aunch-refreshed-galaxy-s-iii-with-lte-support
At a CES briefing today, T-Mobile CTO Neville Ray revealed to The Verge that the company will launch a refreshed version of Samsung's wildly popular Galaxy S III that features support for its upcoming LTE network — a network that has now been confirmed to launch commercially any week now. It's not yet known whether the phone will be marketed as a new, distinct model or as a silent and unadvertised swap on store shelves.
Though the Galaxy S III that's presently being offered by T-Mobile does not support LTE, the slightly newer Galaxy Note II does; Ray tells us that it'll require a "small" software update to enable it once it's available. No other LTE-capable phones have been announced by T-Mobile yet, but it's likely that we'll see some announcements as the first markets go live across the first and second quarter of the year.

for what? lte consumes more power and isnt any faster than what youre already using. in fact, some would argue it is slower...

I dont think its that simple, I believe you need the hardware as well as the modem firmware, just flashing the modem could potentially brick your phone.

I guess once this phone is released, there needs to be a detailed teardown (anandtech / ifixit) that compares the old T999 with the new T999L.
Hopefully there are no hardware differences, and everything is firmware/rom related.
If there are hardware differences, maybe we can start frankensteining a broken T999L (i.e. cracked screens etc) with a working T999 LOL

Epic 4G Touch 4G ?

I have not had 4g working on my Epic at all unless I was all the way on the other side of town. Now I know for a fact that LTE is not in my area but for the hell of it I activated my old LG Viper LTE and what do you know, I have constant 16 meg download on 4g. Anyone here that might have an idea of why this is? I really want to use my epic but wow this 4g stuff is nice too.
the 4G in our phone is on the wimax network, not LTE

No I don't think that's possible... I'm pretty sure that Sprint and Verizon (or anybody else) would use the same frequencies for their 4G... they want it to stay fast... trial period is most likely
This Network Vision thing Sprint has been talking about is real. Lots of new LTE towers up recently all over the country. And no there is no 4g roaming between carriers.
4g LTE roaming is not possible between any of the carriers.
ATT LTE uses low 700mhz block & in the future, some AWS and WCS.
Vz LTE uses upper 700mhz block & in the future, AWS.
T-mobile LTE is AWS
Sprint LTE is PCS 1900/ SMR 800 / BRS-EBS 2.5/2.6ghz

Except it came out 9 months ago and the nexus 4 has already replaced it. Its got a weak camera, low RAM, poor display and did I mention it's old. If it was any phone but a nexus it wouldn't be getting updated anymore and headed for EOL, which it will be EOL less than halfway thru your new contract

My wife has a nexus. Its not bad but it came out before the e4gt. Hers is the verizon version. It does run good for having inferior cpu. Lte radio is a plus. No gorilla glass! Shes shattered 2.
