[Q] Voodoo port possible? - Samsung Captivate Glide

I was just curious if anyone has attempted to compile voodoo sound for the Glide?

the Galaxy Tab 10.1 also has the same chip as the glide and it has voodoo support. The one thing will make this possible for the glide if there is someone who is knowledgeable about the procedures of porting. And I believe there are, but they also need time....

:/ freustrating, I've began to compile a voodoo kernal but its not quite coming to a complete circle.

Voodoo

I wanted to know is it possible to get voodoo on the G2. I'm on gingervillain (yes i know it's outdated) and it doesn't work on that. Will it work on another other rom? Thank You
wait voodoo? I really hope you do not mean the one for the galaxy s.
If it is the one from galaxy s no, no we cannot use it. What that voodoo does is changes the system memory to ext4 and some other sound and color fixes specific to the super amoled screen on those devices and speaker (for voodoo sound you can use dpsManager and color should not be needed). The reason it works on the galaxy s devices is that they use a much slower memory. I believe gingerbread by default uses ext4(do not quote me on that as I am not 100%sure just heard that some places) and for certain on some roms ext4 is default such as tun4f1sh's bulletproof miui to name one but are on much more. If this is not the voodoo you are looking for I just typed this out for nothing.
PS. I probably missed something here but just so you know desire z has nowhere near the same amount of lag as the galaxy s (i know i came from one never going back)
Thanks for the reply. I wasn't sure what voodoo was. I was reading a review for Power Amp and someone said it sounded great with voodoo sound. When I googled it I read a few people said they got it to work with the G2.
They got it working with g2 curious... i dont see why you would need that since it does not suffer from the lag of the galaxy s ... hmm might check that out... but that just sounds weird
Anyone care to point out if i missed something because that seems fishy

[Q] New to GN! Kernel Question

Hi everyone!
Well, I finally switched over from my Driod Charge last week. Prior to that, I had the Fascinate for about a year. So, while I am new to the Nexus, I am certainly not new to Samsung, Android or flashing... as of now, I have unlocked and rooted my phone, but other than that, I am completely stock (and not minding it actually) I am sure I will get around to custom ROMs very soon though. But in the meantime, I have a couple quick questions:
1) Is ALL flashing now done through ROM Manager or Clockwork Mod (i.e. No Odin?)
2) As said, I am still stock (4.0.2) but I would like a kernel to flash, not a ROM (yet!) that will allow overclocking, wireless tethering, etc... suggestions anyone??
Thats really it for now.... just wanted to say HI to my "new" community here on XDA!
Joe
1 for roms etc, yes (use cwm, not rom manager)! only use odin when cw doesnt work.
2 franco.kernel, trinity, glados, popcornkernel and leankernel are all great
And welcome

1) Yes.
Odin is used for MAJOR **** ups only.
2) There are one or two kernels compatible with 4.0.2 in the forum bit I think Franco's one is 4.0.3/4 only.
I think james bond kernel is 4.0.2 compatible.
3) Flash a rom, there are some nice roms to be flashed. Personally I use AOKP 4.0.3.
Yea, I am sure I will get to ROMs soon enough.... but coming from the Charge, the dual core in the GN makes it feel fast enough so as it is!
OK... so no ODIN.
As far as the kernels... any show better battery life? Really the only downside to the GN, but I do have a spare battery and charge, so Im ok.

I would suggest Imoseyon's Lean Kernel in conjunction with Lean Tweaks. I get good speed and decent battery life with it.

Thanks... but I think it says that Leankernel is for 4.0.3/4... I'm in 4.0.2. I'm assuming I can't use it?

James bond is the only 4.0.2 kernel I know of.
Search around though and you might find another.
If you want a stock rom that's 4.0.3 then flash bugless Pete's rom.
Its pretty much plain stock.

[Q] Getting my S3 in a day or 2. Ideal rom for cifs support and hdmi?

Hello, well T-Mobile failed on my upgrade.. they tried to send me out the Marble white when I upgraded my 2yr for the Pebble Blue.. so unless they make it a Sat delivery, I am stuck waiting till monday. =/ Gives me a chance to look thinsg over here. Now I was hearing CM10 ASOP was a stable build if I wanted Jelly Bean. However I also heard ASOP breaks the HDMI ability? Also looking for a rom with the cifs ability for network shares. (Also DLNA still work on these non stock roms?)
So anyways also been reading the rumor that sometime next week or so the official JB will be released, so should I wait on a custom rom for official builds to be used to upgrade the custom roms or is there something common and main stream thats ideal to use for everything without issues. Also confused about the Panorama stuff, Never used that before and I hear some roms feature it.
Anyways if anyone could help point me with the right basic info, so when I get my S3, I have some insight on whats ideal atm or the status. =) Not new to XDA here, so I already know lots of reading to do before flashing my ideal stuff. =) Thanks.

ive tried out several of the stock based roms. my favorite is the wicked rom by evil1art. its pretty stable. ive used it with the hdmi mhl connector and its great. on a side note, be careful when you buy that connector as the pin configuration for the s3 is different. there is an adaptor piece you can buy if you already own one. thats what i did. its like 9 bucks on amazon.
in my opinion the AOSP roms are just not quite there yet. plus, a lot of people, myself included, really like what they have done with touchwiz. not everyone will agree with that statement but its my opinion.
ive been tempted to try out some of the JB leaks but im holding out for the official release i think. i personally hate dealing with buggy roms. i prefer more stable builds.
kernel wise, trinity kernel and faux kernel are both really popular. try some things out and see what works best for you
im assuming your panorama question refers to the camera? its pretty simple you select it when the camer is open. its one of the options on the side and you just slowly pan the camera as you take the picture. ive had mixed luck with it. panorma photos ive taken with apps from the market tend to come out a little cleaner. but its a great option for capturing a view or scenery that you just cant grab in one shot.
all in all in general. the camera is the best ive ever used on a phone. but again, other people might have a different opinion on this.
hope this helped a little bit.
Personal opinion, is to stay on stock until the Jelly Bean update, and then see what is done. WildChild usually will make a great clean rom of a stock build, and to be honest, the only way you are keeping the things you want, HDMI etc, you will have to stay with stock/touchwiz build. You can still do mods, and themes to try to get the look you want, but you will never get the functionality you want in AOSP. It's just too difficult, and not a priority for AOSP devs.
Ok so avoid AOSP. Good advice. Thanks! Also any news on cifs support or a cifs.ko file I can download and just insmod load for the S3? DNLA working good too? (Since my dd-wrt I have that running)
And yea, whats the point of using the phone without the hdmi heh. So I will assume then all CM roms are worse then stock at this stage (and/or lack HDMI ability?)
So in the end, you all are suggesting stick with stock, root it, play around till official JB comes out and roms based on it?
Wicked rom is working good for me.
I'm running CM10 nightlies on my GS3 and love it. Everything works fine, including MHL out. I can't really compare it to TW though since I've been running CM10 since I bought the thing lol.

Yea since latest news is toward the end of this month, maybe just before Galaxy Note 2 for JB for us S3. I may just wait to see roms based off the new official one. The trick is.. would I go CM10, then I am really wondering how we would even know a build changed up to start basing things more off the official source (vs leaked)
Definitly wicked rom. I've tried every rom in the s3 forums and by far wicked to me is the best all around. Wicked with ktoons kernel the pho e is blazing fast. Ultra smooth as stable as the day I took it out of the box and I get an average of 13-15 hours battery with farely heavy use. You will not be disappointed in this rom/kernel combo.

What is different in that rom vs stock?
Right now rooted stock.. isnt bad.. I was surprised to see how fast it is and that it DOES have cifs.ko support already! Woot!

[Q] Advice or opinions on recording audio/video?

So it's been 4 months now and I still have not found a solution to this mic issue. Here is a video I recorded lastnight at a club. You can hear the tinny-ness and the distortion breaking up. Iknow Iknow......I KNOW, "It's a phone, what do you expect"? But I've been spoiled with my last Samsung Galaxy S4G, with Voodoo Sound on board .It allowed me to adjust the recording level. It seems like everytime I ask about Voodoo Sound being available for our phone, people assume it's because I want the audio OUT features, but actually I want the mic preset controls. Supposedly irig was coming to android at the begining of this month, but it's 24 days late, so far
I don't see much mention of the mic issue on xda, so maybe no one cares. But I figured I'd ask if anyone has a solution thus far... or any roms with it ported... or kernels that are compatible?
Thanks everyone!

PS. I don't know this band,,, it's not selfless promotion
There are a few ROMs that have voodoo compatibility. I know vanilla rootbox does, its AOSP, in the AT&T section. Tweaked might be adding it in the near future as well. Tweaked is TW based and an incredible ROM.

Overclock and undervolt kernel for CM Stable 10.1.3?

Hi,
Just got a used Epic 4g today and have a question for you seasoned vets.
I've decided to run CM 10.1.3 stable since it seems like a fairly solid, well supported ROM. Can any of you recommend a custom kernel to go along with it? I'd like to be able to play around with overclocking, undervolting, or even some more governors,
Thanks.
Honestly, I've had nothing but good experience using the kernel that ships with CM 10.1 (on two Epics used by two different people). I never felt like I needed to find a different one. What are you hoping to gain from a new kernel? Just curious...

With the stock kernel, I don't see any voltage adjustment options nor any overclocking options. I'd like to have those.

Fair enough. Yeah, stock CM 10.1 only allows you to adjust the clock speed *down* (from what I can see in the performance menu). I'm afraid I'm no help with the custom kernel scene, so best of luck to you. I'll let someone else comment on that if they feel so inclined.

Nitest/Nutest probably have those (look around in the dev forum). Do note that Epic 4G is an old device with decreasing support, so Nitest/Nutest is pretty much the only custom kernel for AOSP ROMs.

Thanks for your response. This device is old, but it has far better community support than my Droid Pro ever did.
