CM7 Lockscreen Failure

Hey everybody, I'm using CM7 and occasionally when I press the power button to wake my device up from sleeping, it only lights up the 4 capacitive buttons while the screen remains black. If I fiddle with it some, it eventually turns on but it's getting more and more frequent and annoying. If you have any redirects to a thread (I couldn't find one for the life of me) or suggestions, it would be much appreciated.
I had the same issue. CM7 rc1. I went back to CM 6.1.2 for the time being.

Do you follow the thread at all? This is discussed on about half the pages. It's because you have both the CRT screen on/off animations set and you are overclocked above around 1.2ghz. Either ease up on the oc, or turn off the animations for the screen. No problem with the ROM or your phone.

Actually I fixed the problem by turning the wifi off. SetCPU is set under 1GHz.

This problem is caused by too high of an overclock.

why not try trackball wake?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I agree, I can't see my self not using the track pad wake method. I'm oc to just over 1ghz(ondemand) & have no problems waking up my phone with the screen on & off animations. I prefer CPU tuner over setcpu anyday.

My g2 with cm7 rc1 has similar symptoms, where when the power button is pressed the capacitive buttons light up, and the back lighting on the screen is noticeable, but nothing more. I have tried a battery pull, a soft reboot, and still the screen does not wake up. I had the oc at 1100 before this happened. Any ideas on how I can get the screen back on in order to change the settings? Thanks
update: The screen still does not come on, but I received a phone call and was able to answer it by sliding my finger across the screen in the general area where you normally swipe to answer, and then I ended the call by tapping where the end icon usually sits. So the touch screen is working, but there are no visuals.
Restore your Nandroid and set it differently next time.

Is there a method to restore my nandroid without being able to use the screen? Can i do it over ADB?

Do a battery pull. Put the battery back in. Hold the volume down button and then press and hold the power button. That'll put you to a screen that has a bunch of text on it. (Let go of the buttons if you're still holding them) Hit the volume down button once. Should highlight "recovery" then hit the power button to select. It'll boot into recovery now. Wipe data, then wipe cache, then wipe dalvik/cache (under advanced) then backup & restore, and select your nandroid. Once done, hit the back arrow, then select reboot
Now, if the screen doesn't even turn on when you do the batt pull, allowing you to see anything at call, sorry LOL.

That's good advice, but wanted to let you know it is unnecessary to do the wipe data/cache/dalvik cache before you restore a nandroid backup. Part of the restore process does a complete wipe automatically before it restores, so doing it beforehand is superfluous.
I have never heard of anyone's screen issue persisting through a reboot. That would drive me nuts. Make sure you never set SetCPU to 'Set on boot' until you are sure your governing and secondary profiles are stable with the kernal you are running on your device.

I know, but I like to make sure anyway. At least I know for my own sanity that it's definitely wiped lol.
Thank you all for the input, but the screen never comes on at all, even in the bootloader or recovery.

weird display problem.. wont start up fast

I'm on a g2, running cm7.. when ever I hit power button to put phone to sleep, the phone light goes black.. that's normal, obviously... but when ever I tick power button to awaken it, the home menu back and search keys light up but the screen goes black. Ill have to press power off and on button like 6 times for the screen to actually show up.. each time, quite annoying..
Any idea y? Thanks guys!
are you overclocked?
screen on/off animations?
using setcpu?
I've had some issues with screen on not responding as it should, and this is what fixed it for me:
-lower overclock (I was at ~1.3 ghz, went down to ~1.0ghz)
-disable screen on/off animations
-change setCPU from ondemand to interactive
obviously, what worked for me may not work for you.. but you might give that a shot.
I have mine set to performance? I don't really know the difference.
However, I don't use setcpu, I use cm7 settings the one that gives you the "warning this may cause blah blah blah when changing settings)
But I have it set to 1ghz.. ill test it though thanks!
I have almost the same problem but mine does that once in a while. The phone is not rooted. So I don't use set cpu or anything like that. The problem that I am having is when I turn the phone on (after it is shut down) it does not display the htc logo, then when it gets to the g2 it does not display that either. When the finishes turning on the screen is still black. I can press the digitizer where I know the unlock is and I can feel it vibrate then when I unlock it I can still feel it vibrate when it unlocks and it takes about 2 to get the screen on from this just pressing the on and off power button. Some1 please help.

Well it turns out it was because I set it to powersaver, I set it to interactive and it works great now! I noticed my web browsing speed increased to. No more slightly lag scrolling/zooming... maybe perfomance govern is to fast?
I notice performance made quadrant skip cpu and go straight to graphics and data write and scrdw up the test, and even youtube videos would play like 2 seconds, to 8 seconds, and skip all the way to the end, with choppy playback..
Emulators ran flawless at 1.3ghz hooked up with wii remote.. dk country 2 is epic

[Q] Synergy RC1 power off?

So has anyone noticed that when you hold the power button and choose "Power off" it does not actually shut all the way down? So if I choose that then hold power and volume down to get into bootloader, it just starts up. Is this a problem? Or is this just for faster bootup times and that's why they included an option to get into bootloader and recovery in the "Restart" command? BTW... Best ROM ever! I've been doing the nightlies for a few weeks now (yes flashed everynight) never a problem or hiccup or anything. RC1 is faster and smoother than any of the nightlies as well. I love it!
I did notice the same thing in the 6/24 nightly and was wondering the same thing
are you sure you dont just have fastboot enabled under power options? you have to turn that off or do battery pull to get into bootloader with volume down button.
Yup, disable fastboot, its basically useless anyways.

[Q] Screen doesn't wake up

Hello!
I need some help, I have a problem with my Wildfire. When I press the power button, the screen does not wake up, only after I press it several times does it wake up, and other times I have to remove the battery to get it to work again. Tried the solution for brightness settings bug, it's not helping, tried factory reset, no help either. Also, when I press the power button, the back button, search, home and menu, all light up, but the screen is black. The ROM I'm using is DK Custom Froyo.
Does anyone know what to do?
Thanks in advance.

I tried pressing the trackball, but nothing happens, I will try flashing my ROM, I was going to flash it as a last resort, but thanks for your advice.
I'll let you know if it helps to reflash.

It could also be that your min CPU frequency is set too low.

Reflashing didn't help, I'll try modifying the CPU frequency.
Yesterday, I turned the phone off and it took me 4 hours to power it back on, when I pressed the power button, it just vibrated once and that's it, and when I tried to power it with volume up and power, it vibrated 3 times and green led turned on but nothing more, volume down and power gave me no reaction on the phone, I think that my Wildfire is probably getting to the point of no return, so to speak.

Your device is stuck in the sleep of death. I had it too when doing the same thing ?
Simply just press and hold Power Button+ Home buttons + Both Volume Up and Down butoons at the same time for 30 seconds or so and it will force reboot. Now when it boots back into Android again, go into hulk kernel control and switch the governed to interactive
