I have been reading about this car stereo since CES and cant wait to purchase it. Though I can't find any information on whether the Galaxy Nexus will be compatible with the app. It was announced that the SGIII would receive it but has anyone heard about the G Nex getting it? If not, hopefully the dev community will be able to port it over...Here is a link to the actual stereo...

Double din comes out later this year.

I considered that one before the Sony one was announced. I like that I would possibly be able to control Rdio on a large screen and it connect to my steering wheel controls (with an added accessory) and not have to fumble with my phone. Plus the option of my passengers being able to watch DVD's and Netflix is pretty cool.
Ya that would be nice for em. As far as the release and the features of the double din I'm not positive but its in the works. I work at a car audio shop and we had a webinar with them and said it was gonna be bahdass. Also the pioneer aporadio 2 has HDMI output and has optional MHL cable for android
... also it would be sick if it were possible to root and develop a custom from for a radio. Seems interesting not sure if source would be available though lol. I know they had updates on there sight but don't remember seeing code. They gotta give us something though

Ah yeah it would be amazing to have a custom rom on a car stereo.
I just need a stereo that I can control Rdio and a few other music apps from so I can get over not needing/wanting the pogo car dock...
Not sure about the Sony you are talking about since the company I work for doesn't carry it but anything with Bluetooth a2dp is the way to go as far as android goes the USB interface sucks for android devices reads ringtones and pretty much every audio file there is as well as shows every folder you have. Not to mention I can't connect to a single deck through USB because of mtp . So yeah. I would highly recconend actually testing the head unit you are interested in and make sure it works the way you want it to because car audio is pretty depressing when it comes to android compatability

Awesome. Thanks for the heads up. I will wait for a local car audio store here in Houston to have one on display first.
Ya that's definitely the way to go about it. like I said car audio hasn't shown android no love... everything is made for apple -.-

Awesome, Houston here too. I have been looking for more info on Mirrorlink as well. I started this thread trying to gather some, but not much headway has been made. I cancelled my EVO 4G LTE because it was not advertised with Mirrorlink compatibility. Waiting for Sprint to get the SIII next month hopefully.

I am very interested in this myself and since Nokia is the most supported brand I am hoping that we will see some Windows Phone compatibility in the near future. I did think it was pretty funny that all the phones supported except one were Symbian though, I thought Symbian was on the outs.
FYI the XAV-601BT is out now.
But nobody reviewed that device yet
Has anyone tried pairing a mirrorlink enabled phone to the head unit and test it out? Im planning to buy this head unit in the next quarter so i'd like some advices.

HI, just as an alternative, i bought the Alpine ICS X8 with mirror link, as yet it doesnt support my galaxy s3...
The Sony XAV-601BT just received a firmware update (get it at the Sony support site) that adds support for the Galaxy S3. I can't tell you much about it as I have the Nexus. Hopefully some ROM devs start to incorporate MirrorLink into their OS builds. From what I read in another thread, it isn't as easy as just getting the APK from the S3.
Hey all, loving my new 5x on Google fi, so much better than ATT!
I just got a new car, and it has a Starlink base head unit (6.2" without nav). It is a unit developed by clarion for Subaru.
Anyways, I was reading a post somewhere about someone basically casting Google maps or any other app to the head unit, but that it was not allowed in the US for whatever reason.
Do any of you know of a way for me to connect my 5x and use it for nav, etc? Or would that be a head unit hack?
Thanks!
Any luck with this?

Hello Everyone,
I traded in my 2014 Subaru Outback for a new 2018 Outback. In my 2014, I removed the original stereo unit and put in a fantastic Android HU with SYGIC GPS, that unfortunately won't fit in my new car. (The old unit is for sale, just sayin')
For the past two weeks, I've been looking to replace the crappy "Starlink" unit in my new 2018, but I'm having difficulty finding one that will install with the current faceplate. I contacted the company that I bought the original one from, and they said that their engineers are working on it, and will take about 6-8 weeks to come up with one. Has anyone found a suitable HU for a 2018 Outback? The issue I have with the HU that came with the car is that the only way to communicate with it is through Bluetooth using a smart phone via the USB input or with Bluetooth. That means wires. It also means having a smart phone, which I don't and NEVER wanted to have. I use the original Motorola V3 RAZR Flip Phones for a number of reasons, and they work just fine.
OR - Does anyone know how I can hack into this "Starlink" unit that came with my car? All I want to do is perhaps root it, or at least install some of my own apps and also to be able to use my hotspot and download stuff. There has to be a 'code' or certain buttons to press to get into this machine, but I haven't been able to find anyone smart enough to figure this one out. I'd be happy to compensate anyone who can help. I did just that with the older HU, so if you can help, just let me know.
Thanks in advance.
hello, not new to android been modding for many years but this will be my first jump into a android head unit. this will be for my wife's car and she wants the dash to remain stock and anything wider then stock will partially or fully block the middle 2 main ac vents. so she limited me to the standard 7" screen size.
im looking at the max6 and one from xtrons px6 version which does not have the dsp chip but they offered me the chip if i buy the unit from them included.
im reading of some issues with the max6 here at xda and wanted to know if that is the norm with this model? and how is xtrons overall these days i was reading they were decent but those threads seem to be pretty old and i dont want to revive them. otherwise is there any specific model px6 7" unit anyone here can directly recc to me? any help would be appreciated. ive spent hours reading all sorts of threads but many of them are older threads now about px5 or px3 units.
also does anyone expect anything new from ces this year chip wise? though i dont know how many of these china companies show there. i sawe dasaita has in the past.
thanks!

I grabbed the xtrons tq709ipl because its got the px6, is known to be compatible with some roms here, and the price was better than dasiata's comparable px6. Like you mentioned the xtrons doesn't have a DSP, i'm not an audiophile so i don't really know about features I wont be able to judge. What I've read is that the chip in the xtrons even without a DSP is still "better" than most name brand head units out there. amazon is running a $20 coupon right now too (as of 2/19/202), so that was nice. Shipping from hong kong only took 3 days too somehow, so that was cool.
With either of them be prepared to modify the double-din dash kit if you need one for your car. The android head unit faceplates are a few mm larger than North American big brand units like pioneer, jvc, sony, etc.
Good news is I've read enough to conclude all px6 based units are essentially the same guts, and roms will generally work on any of them. So you should just decide: what faceplate you like better between the two, does the DSP really matter to you, and then look at cost and how quick you can get it!
Good luck!
I have an old Maruti Swift 2012 model. I want to install it with latest connected car tech such as remote start stop and switching on the AC remotely. These features are available in new cars.
I would like to know from the forum members if this is possible or if if any one has tried it on their vehicles and the cost involved.
