Formatted SD Card? You would think. - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi everyone. First time to the forum year long archos user. I recently had Urukdroid 1.6.1 on my Archos 70it and was having problems with it (all kinds of crashes and wireless wouldn't connect anymore). I decided to reinstall Urukdroid but this time put it on my internal storage instead of the SD. All went well and its working great now. The only thing is if I reboot with the SD card in it boots into the old Urukdroid. So I decided to format and delete the partitions using my windows 7 machine. Everything looks like it worked partitions are gone and it is now formatted. But when I unplug it and plug it back into my computer, to my surprise, everything is back. Like it had never been formatted or partitions deleted at all. Does anyone know what is causing this? I have tried multiple computers I even took my wife's Nook Color and tried formating the SD card using it. I am pulling my hair out, it really seems like some kind of security issue or a device that is R/O.
Thanks

Use mini tool partition for pc...
First delete partition and formated if preferred...

Man I was hoping this would work, but, it didn't. I am a computer technician and when you wipe a partition and format it shouldn't come back. Even when I have it still plugged in to my computer I see it as wiped away but as soon as I disconnect and view it its back. All the files are there and directories just like it was before I wiped it away. I am going crazy, thinking about buying a new sd card.

Try formatting in d device u used before....

Sdcard cannot mount!

Today I installed the rom called Pirate rum. But now I can't mount my SD card. I tried booting into recovery to flash another rom. But not even clockwork can mount it.
I have tried using a cardreader in my computer. It reads the card fine.
I then backed up files and formatted the card, but it's still unreadable.
Also tried another card.
Are there anyone who might be able to help?

does the device read your sim card? it sounds like a usb brck if, its happening with more than one card
It reads the sim card. It's the SD card which doesn't work...
Also tried with amon ra.
I got it!
It was usb bricked. I remembered a tutorial from modaco, and fixed it.
Thanks Androhero. (For making me think it could be that. )

[Q] Not the typical sdcard problem... Any ideas?

I started having an issue today when I downloaded snes roms for my emulator. They would download and work great until I rebooted or file shared with cpu. Then they would suddenly disappear. Then I started noticing some of my apps that were stored on my sd card lost there picture and weren't installed anymore. That pushed me over the edge to unroot, format sdcard and start over but then I found out I had more problems. I can see and access the existing files on my sd card but I can't move anything else to it. Everytime I moved over unrevoked s-on and tried to flash it, it wasn't there. Two times it actually showed in recovery but then installation was aborted due to bad file (I downloaded it from multiple sources, including unrevoked).
Should I format the sdcard?
I'm lost, any help?
If possible, backup the sdcard, and then yes, try formatting it.
Thanks for the quick reply.
I've backed up my sdcard's content on my computer but I'm concerned that after formating I won't be able to move the files back. Could that be an issue?
Naw, you'll be able to move them back. You just have to copy them back over.
I tried formatting the sdcard and it didn't do anything. It gave me the warnings about erasing all the files and everything...
Using clockworkmod I tried to partition the sdcard and it had a similar result. It warned me that everything will be erased but when it booted back up everything remained and it's like nothing happened.
Is it possible that the sdcard has been locked?
Did you forward with the partition? Cuz it does warn you. And when partitioned, it should have nothing on it...so try running it again, or do it on a pc if available.
I don't have an adapter for my computer so it looks like I'll need to pick one up tomorrow. Thanks for the advice!
Oh and yes I went forward with the partition along with formatting the card. Both had zero effect. Nothing had been erased.
Hmm that's weird, but alright. And you can shoot me a message if you need anymore help.
I got to work today and swapped a co-workers sdcard into my phone and took a picture. It showed up on her evo proving that my phone still is properly writing files. The sdcard must have just crapped out. I'll be formatting it using my computer today so hopefully that will help.
Well I got a new SD card and everything works perfectly. Now my 8gb will just be my backup after I format it.

Help! Damaged SD card!

Hello, XDA commnity. I'm really hoping you guys can come through for me once again, and I apologize if this has already been discussed before.
Anyway, a little while ago, while rebooting my phone (a rooted Droid 2 running Liberty 1.5 if that helps) I got a message in the notification bar that my SD card was damaged.
Please tell me if I can recover all my card's contents without having to format the card. I have a lot of important stuff on there (including two nandroid backup images) and I absolutely MUST recover everything. Please have some good news for me!

This happened to me this morning. I crapped my pants, remounted my SD card in Settings > Storage and it mounted just fine. As soon as it did I managed to back up everything on the card.
Failing that, try booting into Ubuntu if you've got it handy and try reading the card from there. I've had memory cards/sticks which Windows has reported dead but worked just fine on Ubuntu before.
Hope this helps.

[Q] Messed up sd card?

So i was preparing to transfer a rom from my pc to my sd card. I mounted my sd card to the pc like normal. For some unknown reason, I pulled the usb cable out of my phone without unmounting first. I then closed everything out and remounted my sd card to the pc. When I attempted to copy over the rom zip, it was just extremely slow, like 1+ hrs to go slow. I cancelled the operation with some difficulty. When I again remounted my sd card, the pc wanted to run a check and fix on it. Reluctantly, I did it and it finished without finding any errors on the sd card file system. So I tried again with the same results. I can, however, transfer files from the sd card to the pc with no issues. What the heck? Any help would be appreciated.
Copy your SD card to your computer to back it up, and format the SD card FAT32, then copy the contents back to the card.

That's what I figured. Just wanted to check for options before I did that. Do I need to remove the sd card from the phone, or can I just do it through the mount? It's one thing I haven't had to do before.
If you have a USB card reader that'd be ideal, but if not you can do it when mounted via USB.

Backup and format complete.
Currently restoring my sd card files. Going VERY slow, just like when I was trying to copy a zip file over originally. Transfer speed started at 1.5 mb/s and has steadily dropped dowm to 176 kb/s (not a mis-type). Now is working it's way back up. Any idea why it would do this? Never had this issue before. Frustrating.
No idea. Maybe try another SD card if you can, maybe try it on another computer to see if that makes a difference...? Are you using the HTC Incredible USB cable or aftermarket?
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda premium
It's the htc cable. The transfer rate did go back up to 1.5mb/s eventually. What is odd is that it transfered just fine from the sd card to the pc. Seems like it's working though. Around 2hrs or so for 6.45 gig from pc to sd card. Sound reasonable?
To be honest: I'm not sure if that's good or bad, I'd have to give it a try and let you know.
Yeh, I've always claimed to be only partially retarded. :-D Never actually thought about that option. All is good now. Things seem to be working as planned. Thanks for all the input.

While its transferring slowly, click the "details" arrow in the transfer window so that you can see what exactly is happening. Transferring a ton of tiny files (i.e. cache) slow the transfer rate down considerably.
This happened to me when Zedge had a cache leak... It transferred slowly when it got to the app's cache folder, the eta climbed up to like a hour for 2 gigs! WTF! After looking at the details i fount that there were thousands of tiny files in Zedge's cache folder that just bogged down everything as the computer recognized each and every one of them. I deleted the folder completely and all was well again.
2+ hours is a long time for 6 gigs via a USB 2.0 wire, it should be like 10-15 minutes.

What could be causing files names to change and loose all data on SDCard

Good afternoon everyone.
About a month ago, I noticed that my music, videos and picture folders names were changed(renamed) to this
strange names.
I could not have access to my camera pictures, my movies or some music files.
I am attaching a picture screen shot so you can see.
So I lost all the pictures I had taken with the camera from the last 3 to 4 months. I did not make a backup
since January.
I decided to start fresh and did a cashe wipe, dalvik cache wipe, a factory reset, a system wipe, an internal wipe
and even an internal data format.
I also took the SD Card out and wiped everything there and re formatted the card.
Installed everything back in and now about a month later, this happens again.
Something has re written some file names, and wiped out the data in the folders and they will not display or
play.
I am thinking it could be a virus.
I have installed programs like photosphere camera, snoozy, note 10.0 note pad, and some programs that change my
battery, and task bar.
Does anyone has an idea of what this problem could be?
Any idea or help is appreciated.
Never seen this before, but I am interested to see what it is if anyone can figure it out.
Does it happen to be a 64gb sandisk, I had the same issue with my files getting corrupt, lost all my stuff. Reformated fat32 and has be solid for the past 3 months.

It is a Scandisk 64G but I had it format to fat32.
I tried to remove the files with a file explorer and also a root explorer, even the recovery explorer and it
will not let me do it.
I am going to wait until I get home and use my micro sd adapter card reader and delete the files from
my PC.
Funny thing is this corrupt files stick to your card and I think is more like a virus than hardware related.
The file name gets changed, the data erased and then file becomes read only and the devise can not delete
it or change the files.
Seems to be doing it to the video, sound and pictures folder only.
Bad SD card, same thing happens to pc hard drives when they go ka-put. Virus will also do it... but i see that as being unlikely. Just replace the sd card.

Corrupted File allocation table. First, put it in a pc, go to a command prompt (windows r and type cmd), then chkdsk -f driveletter: (depends on what your machine mounts it as). That could fix it, if not, copy all data off, reformat, copy data back. If that doesn't work, then the above poster is correct, the card is going bad, and replace it. (But it might not be, fat16 and fat32 can do this sometimes, especially if it's not unmounted cleanly when android is shutting down.)

Thank you both.
It is a 2 month old card but nothing is perfect.
I spent most of the day wiping the phone and the card and re flashing everything.
I am going to do a back up and get a new card this coming week.
Will post back once I see if it happens again.
SD card is bad. Buy a new one. 100% sure this is the issue.
Also, sandisk is no longer a quality card. Don't buy them, get a PNY.
Good luck brother
