I am fairly new to Android, I've had my Wildfire S for just over a month. I have unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone. I am looking for a stable sense based rom that will work on my phone.
I have tried CM7, but I prefer the look and feel of sense. I have read that going from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 improved battery life.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Look in the android development section for the Wildfire S
Make sure what you get is a Marvel ROM and not a Marvelc ROM. Virgin Mobile US is Marvelc and VM Canada is Marvel, so don't pay attention to carrier, but rather to Marvel vs Marvelc.
how did you unlock it?

Hi, I'm a noob here. Just wondering how you got your bootloader unlocked? I've tried several times with no success. I have the same phone on the same network with the same carrier. I have tried the method on the htcdev site with no success. The only difference is my HBOOT is 0.90. I have tried to update it but have not been successful.
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

your hboot is 0.90 meaning you still have android 2.3.3
go to settings>about phone>software updates
and update your phone.if phone says no update..
factory reset and then try again.
now your phone will be updated to 2.3.5 and hboot to 1.09 or something..then you can able to unlock bootloader.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, it's Android 2.3.3. I tried what you suggested but my phone still tells me there are no updates available even after factory reset.

Has anyone succesfully unlocked the bootloader while on this firmware with S-ON?

I had serious problems with it back when the WFS was first released, I've been stuck on it ever since.
I keep getting ERROR [191]: when trying the ROM on htcdev.. Tried alot of the others also..
More to the point, my question is, has anyone had any progress with this?
Here are my phone details incase this helps.

My phone originaly came with a Euro stock ROM, but it was so long ago I forget which one it was. UK Vodafone maybe.
//EDIT
Okay do as this thread says:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301388
Change firmware number to 1.30.401.0 when asked, and flash to this ROM Gingerbread 2.3.5 (v2.13.401.2).zip :
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NETNLZD0
Extract and run installer..
then you will be out of that horrible firmware, then proceed to change your Hboot.
I'm not the creator of these methods just reposting them, miguelca is the creator of the Gingerbread link, so thanks to him.
Nobody has had this issue? Even if you have the same specs, did yours work without a hitch? Maybe I did something wrong?
I'm currently trying to get temp root, then upgrade the hboot, would that work yes? I will be using this tutorial here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301388
basically doing the opposite of what it says lol.
Hello, I've read so many different threads about rooting/unlocking the Wildfire S that I am kind of confused if I can root mine or no.
The HBOOT screen reads:
MARVEL PVT SHIP S-O RL
HBOOT-0.90.0000 (I have read that many people have problems rooting with this version?)

Also have I read that people with my version have to "skip the RUU step and move to the 2nd step", what is the 2nd step? Where should I start from? I have really read a lot of threads but I'm kind of new to this and I dont want to mess my device up. Thanks everyone.
as i know u must have hboot-1.08.0099 to go trough the htcdev.com method. what is your android ver?

That also updates my HBOOT? As much as I have read I have seen that updating the Android verison didn't help with the errors.
And I still would like to know what people mean when they talk about "skipping the 1st step (RUU) and move straight to 2nd" with my version?
If u update your android with RUU it can update anything ^^, i flashed my WFS to HTC EU 2.3.5 (as stock i got 0.90.0000 too, after flashing 1.08.0000), there's an tutorial how to do it with RUU.
About skipping, its to get rom_1 and rom_2 from Bootloader unlock Rom, to use it manualy, but i think its a bit dangerous to skip a some versions like from 0.90.0000 to just 1.08.0099. Also what brand your phone is? Orange. T-mobile. ?
I had 2.3.5 android on HBOOT 0.90.0000 (yea, HBOOT ver. didn't changed after new RUU,strange)
Just aplied the RUU from HTCdev.com (HTC EU 2.13.401.2), unlocked it through HTCdev manual, and then rooted using this TUT http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432074

Updating from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 will not update your HBOOT. That's what the process at HTC dev is for. Try that and if that doesn't work, use the link I posted above.

Very useful information. This answers the OP's two questions:
1. Does the 2.3.5 RUU update HBOOT? NO.
2. Can some phones with HBOOT 0.90.0000 be unlocked and rooted? Yes.
Until the OP tries to unlock his phone, I don't know what else we can do to help him.
Well my bad
You just need actuall Android version to match the BT UNLOCK RUU.
I installed the 2.3.5 update and tried running the unlocker from HTCdev, i choosed the right version 2.13.401.2 and it says ERROR 190 Rom is not up to date, when i just updated it?
And when i try that trick from SD card, it says Main Version is older, update fail!
HBOOT still shows as 0.90
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445497 here, we are fighting it together. just Check if version is OK
Hi there i recently decided to root my HTC wildfire but in the process accidently got my HBOOT to 1.02.0000 instead of 1.02.0001, i originally started at 1.02.0002 so can someone point me in the direction to get back to 1.02.0001
Also does factory resetting the phone get the original stock HBOOT back?
The phone is also locked to Tesco (O2 UK)
Need help!!! All help appreciated loads!

sent from my ice cream sandwich powered HTC WILDFIRE B-)
yes it has been one of the methods i have attempted to root
Tbh mate there is no real reason to go to that boot, it won't give you anything new or useful aside from peace of mind, but, should you still want to try u think you would need to use the htcdev ruu again and lose your rom ect just remember to back up

I just bought a second hand HTC One X. Its unlocked and unbranded. Using CID getter the CID is VODAP001 - but there is no vodafone branding, software and when I boot the phone I just get the HTC quietly brilliant screen.
software number is 1.29.401.11
Sense version 4.0
Android version 4.0.3.
in HBOOT:
at the very top, in pink it says *** UNLOCKED ***
ENDEAVORU PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT 0.43
CPLD-None
MICROP-None
RADIO-None
etc
So any ideas why I am not getting the OTA update (no updates available) and how I can get it?
Thanks
You have a custom ROM installed on a branded handset.
Thanks - not sure how to do all this as I didnt unlock or root anything. If I relock the device will that mean my sim card won't work>? Or are you talking about locking the bootloader just?

Your bootloader is unlocked. That doesn't affect the SIM lock, so you should be ok there (somebody already unlocked it - or they don't come locked).
Latest official version for you is 1.29.161.13 (I think, at least, that's the latest RUU). In your current state, it's highly unlikely you'll receive the next OTA.
1.29.161.13 is the current build for the Vodafone UK One X - they haven't pushed the 4.0.4 OTA (yet)
So no updates then unless I just flash a custom ROM?
Clockwork recovery is already on the phone so looks like someone has been messing with it?
You can back to stock by relocking and using the Vodafone RUU but you'll...
1. Have Vodafone branding back on it, and
2. Have to wait for Vodafone to release updates
If you're already custom you could just stick with it
If I am on a custom ROM then just stick with it - but how to get the 4.1 update? How do I even know its a custom ROM, what ROM? Just a stock ROM?
As you have a Vodafone UK handset it would come with a x.xx.161.x build on it. The unbranded EU ROM builds are x.xx.401.x so the fact yours is on 1.29.401.11 means it's running a custom ROM

Managed to get Android Revolution HD installed - so far so good!
Hello. I have a problem. Namely I've tried to unblock my HTC Wildfire s but I still have to update my rom version which is already on my phone. The problem is that none of these versions available on htcdec are not compatible with the version that was already installed on my phone. Is there any way of updating? I Would be grateful if someone could explain me what should I use? I've seen many websites and I still can't fix my problem.

you have android 2.3.3 strange.its very old.try to update your phone by OTA.then you will get new version which is 2.26 so you no need to update your rom version via htcdev (you can skip that part) and then unlocked bootloader easily and then root your phone.
for OTA. go to system settings>about phone>software updates and update your phone.

oh little confuse because htc released 2.3.5 update in 2011 i think after i bought my phone and also htc released one another update in 2012 for software.
so if you owned wildfire s,it should be updated. try to do factory reset and then might it ll update.give it a shot.
without update you can't root your phone because htc unlocked phones which have atleast firmware 2.13 (android 2.3.5).
good luck
I made factory reset, it helps, phone update it self to 2.3.5 and now i gave him a new life with CM .
Thanks for helping

you dont need to update your hboot.its already updated i guess.
check your software number in phone its like 2.26.401.3 okay.
when you go to htcdev you should skip that part because your phone has latest 2.26 update..that bootloader update part is only for who have 2.13 software version.
