hello
first i have to say thx and thx alot to Dukenukemx for posting the super winmo to android tut it worked fine for me
bu i used the unlocker on that same tread to unlock my kaiser and it asked me if i wanted to remove the CID info and i left it like it was.
but if with the CID is meant the start up splash screen from t-mobile i would love to remove it anyways.
but how?
thx in advanced
The CID has nothing to do with the splash screen, in fact to change the splash screen you only have to flash one, same method as flashing the nand NBH, only it is a lot smaller.
Simply get a splash screen you like, copy it to SD, rename as kaisimg.nbh, flash, and your new splash screen is installed.
Luckily I have a few splash screen you may like to use on the link on my sig
perfect thx alot i didn,t knew it would be that easy
How can i change the initial startup logo? - the one before the animation?
I have rooted and installed masi0 from here. But still the telstra logo persists.
Thanks

I'm answering only so you don't waste a lot more time looking, and probably won't otherwise get an answer.
I have the same phone (A8183 from Telstra) and that initial logo cannot currently be changed by anyone due to that part of the ROM not being able to be unlocked.
Even rooting your phone and flashing any rom currently available doesn't grant access to this splash screen.
Sorry... not what you wanted to hear I'm sure but it's currently the case.

You can't.....yet!!
wait for s-off. you will be able to flash splash1 with that.

I have read a little about this fabled S-OFF (security off?). How close are we, and will it be as simple as being able to replace a PNG once we have access to another part of the filesystem?

If you flash a generic ROM you will change it to the HTC logo instead.

This is relevant to my interests... So am I right in thinking this is the process?
- get OTA 2.2 ROM for Desire and flash using current process? (Do I need to change radio?)
- Has this now unrooted me? Do I need to re-root? Is it possible?
- Reapply (say) Leedroid 2.x and the original HTC splash screen stays?
Cheers - Neil G
I rooted my Telstra Desire using r6-desire-root-alt.zip a few months ago, and that changed the initial boot splash to the default HTC splash.. so it can be done.

It's almost ready for public release.
You have to convert it to a specific format, but yeah.
It's not a filesystem, its a raw part of the nand
with a rgb framebuffer format.
Some generic ruu zips contain splash1.
Check inside the zip to be sure.
That is the green-on-white HTC logo.

Hrm.. I'm not sure if I'm doing the same as you guys, but I also bought the Telstra model (outright/unlocked from jb hifi), and since then i've put a number of other roms on there, and they've changed the bootup logo to the stock HTC one
(i'm currently using open desire, but originally i was using r3 from modaco - though that was android 2.1)

Thanks everyone - this is all great news... When I got my Desire I couldn't find anyone that was able to say the splash could be changed (either to HTC default or to a custom image)...
Sounds like S-OFF is close so I'll just wait it out.
Cheers - Neil G
When I had a Hero, I was able to change the initial boot image after i installed an engineering spl (obtained from modaco)
Not sure if the same method would apply for s-off on the desire.
But the criteria for the boot image then was, obtain an image you like, crop it to an exact pixel size, and covert to 365rgb format
then using fastboot on your pc use the command fastboot flash splash1
(bearing in mind it's been a while, and it's late, I may be remembering incorrectly)
But if the process turns out to be similar for the desire, you should be able to easily create any boot image you wish, as long as you follow the process carefully and correctly. An image with the wrong pixel size when converted and flash will not display correctly at all.
Hope that helps.
S-OFF is now available! Just installed on my Telstra Desire and changed the splash1 screen successfully!

Wow... Could you please point to the method you used to get S-OFF?
I have a telstra Desire from Australia as well (A8183) and am very keen to get the bootup splash off it. (More in principle than for any good reason!)
Thanks for the heads up it's now possible

See the link in the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794314
I have got my new Desire and have been trying to remove the ugly T-Mobile branding from my phone. I have used Unrevoked and flashed a new ROM successfully. However, I still have the T-Mobile splash screen (not boot screen). I understand to modify this I have to be S-OFF, but my bootloader says I am S-ON. Can I still change the splash via the recovery menu? Or is more hacking required? Also, does anyone have the stock HTC boot screen (and sound) in a recovery-flashable zip format.
Thanks guys!
bumping for fun and profit.
After running stock ruu's, and gone through the phone setup, on the last "HTC page" there is a paragraph at the bottom, in red, that says "bla bla bla this is a test device".
What's that all about ?
There's 2 M8's in the house and both are legit UK handsets and both have red text on set up.
Cheers
Edit.... Think I found the answer. Is it due to the fact that both handsets are s-off ?

No. It is because you have an unlocked bootloader.
But since you are S-Off, you can get rid of it with a modified hboot.
Go to this thread to find out how.

It's not the red text on the splash screen I'm meaning. It's the red text on last page, I think, when going through the set up of the phone after its booted.
I don't have red text on splash screen when running stock, I only get that after flashing a custom recovery.
It is because your s-off. Being s-off trips a flag in your OS. When going through the testing phase before these phones get shipped to the public they are s-off and Tell HTC is enabled to help with errors and crashes. If you were to go back to s-on Tell HTC would be able to toggle again and the red text on the last part of setup would disappear. It's nothing to worry about.

OK, thanks. After a bit of searching I thought it was to do with being s-off.
hi, i have htc M8 with bootloader white background. because i like black background color, so the question is how to change the background color to black ?. Does anyone know how..
Sorry for my bad english
I think you mean the boot splash screen and/or the boot animation. If that is the case, you can look in the M8 Themes and Apps sections for various boot splash and boot animation mods.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/themes-apps
The bootloader is the screen that allows fastboot mode, boot to recovery, etc. Bootloader is not commonly seen (unless you are flashing ROMs or using fastboot a lot) so I don't see why anyone would care what color the bootloader screen is. The only black bootloader screen I've seen for this device is with GPE firmware, which would change the partitions layout of the device (and would mean you therefore could not run Sense ROMs).

No, not bootsplash or bootanimation, but bootloader screen.
I just want to know, is there a way to replace or change the background color bootloader screen..Without replacing with another firmaware.
The reason simply do not like the color only. Moreover, could possibly save battery as well, and no glare in the eyes..
Btw thank's for your answer

Hi
I can't imagine what are you doing in bootloader mode or why it will cause battery drain
When i reboot to bootloader it only seconds before i reboot again unless i'm flashing RUU as it takes some time but while it flashing my eyes are looking to the console not the bootloader itself

I mean is not there. But back to the initial question, the point is (custom background color for the bootloader) :
is there a way to "change the background color from white to black without having to replace the original firmware. Or, Is there a custom background color for the bootloader" as on custom bootsplash and bootanimaton. Only that

As I mentioned, I don't see the point. You only see bootloader screen when doing things like going to recovery, or using fastboot. The amount of time spent on the bootloader screen to me seems irrelevant in terms of what color it is. But to each his own, I suppose.
And the notion of different colors on an LCD saving battery is not correct. That concept only applies to AMOLED screens. For LCD smartphone screens, the entire screen is backlit to the same degree, no matter what colors are being displayed. The liquid crystals just "shutter" to varying degrees to block/let though various colors. Think of it like a window shutter. Having the shutters open or closed (to control the amount of sunlight getting through) doesn't change how much energy the sun is burning.
Even if this device had an AMOLED screen, again the amount of time spend in bootloader would not result in any significant battery savings.
I remember on the my we had a ported GPE bootloader that was nice. All black background. Easier in the eyes. Aesthetically it was nicer, but that's it.

When he said "ported" I believe he meant it was already ported for use with Sense firmware, partitions scheme, etc. But I haven't personally seen that bootloader port. It might not also be a current hboot version.
Search in Themes and Apps (maybe Development?). But be aware that you need s-off to flash a modified bootloader.
EDIT: I thought the previous post referred to a modified M8 hboot, but it appears he was talking about one for the M7, which is a different matter altogether.

This. We HAD one. Not sure if it was out of date or not. I used it, but towards the end, I only used like 1 ROM and it worked so I left it alone. Again, this was for the M7 and should not be taken as an indication the same exists for M8.
M7 is different, no need porting or whatever .. both Sense & GPE are interchangeable.
You can install Sense ROM on GPE bootloader. On M8, you can't install Sense ROM on GPE bootloader but you can install GPE ROM on Sense bootloader.
Shot of M7 with such a bootloader. Also has a black splash, bootanimation (Bootanimation available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/general/boot-animation-t3427813/page1 ) And black hTCdownanimation.
This was a whole cid flash or some #$it. Hard to remember what I did to get it. Haddave been in the oem b&w hTC screen.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure everyone here knows what the black bootloader screen looks like. The pic is unnecessary.
Did you read ckpv's post above yours? It explains that the (black) GPE bootloader was interchangeable with the Sense (white) bootloader only on the M7.
This won't work on the M8.
Dont like my aesthetic? Ho ho ho.
Because I'm not a developer, and not mastered the science of modification. Maybe someone here can modify the bootloader Being a black background

ckpv5 already stated its not possible. It only happened on the M7, since the GPE and Sense hboots were interchangeable. This isn't the case on the M8.

cpkp5 already responded NO to that question back on Post #7. And that guys is very knowledgeable. He wouldn't respond that way, if he wasn't sure.
Converting to GPE isn't just a matter of flashing a ROM. You would have to flash the GPE firmware (not to be confused with a ROM, firmware is hboot and a bunch of other things, not the ROM) which changes the phone's partitioning, and makes it unable to run Sense ROMs (system partition on the GPE partition layout is no longer large enough to store a Sense ROM). And the only way to get back to Sense, is to flash a Sense firmware. You need s-off to do all this.
My opinion, its ridiculous to go through all this, just for a different bootloader screen.

Nobody would ever try to mod bootloader graphics. Modding requires trial & error.
But with bootloader modding, you can't afford an error even a small one like size different in kb .. you'll get hard brick and require motherboard replacement.
This is the same as the Sunshine app developer developing the S-Off method .. a slight error means a hard brick. That is why S-Off come with a price because they bricked a lot of phones before they succeed developing the S-Off tool.
So I don't think anyone willing risk of hard brick with bootloader modding as no one is willing to pay for a black bootloader.
