Last night i had a dream (yes a dream ) my gio had gotten a virus. My evil mind made it a good virus, it was called l!ttle or l1ttle (don't remember)
[DREAM] I woke up, realized my gio wasn't turned on, so i switched it on. Everything was fine until i noticed an unfamiliar bootanimation. A skull with L1ttle or l!ttle written on it, then it booted. Again, my phone was acting weird. I unlocked the sim card and the madness begun. The background started flashing and the statusbar went crazy. I noticed that it sent data somewhere when i realized i have "given" someone my sim card information. Thats when i pulled the battery to make it stop. Wondering what was the problem, i took the sdcard and put it in the computer adapter, i noticed several unfamiliar folders "cwmcommands", "l1ttle or l!ttle" and a "sentdata" folder. So i examined them and thought my gio was doomed. I booted it again just to see how it behaves, once again, freaking out. It wouldn't allow me to get into recovery but i was lucky enough to get into download and flashed the first .tar i could find [/DREAM] Then i woke up
So my question is, is a virus like this possible?
Yeah, it is POSIBLE, but i don't think it ever will happen, btw: that the worst nightmare ive ever heard!
Sent from my GT-S5660 using xda premium
Nah, it wasn't a nightmare. Just my mind playing with me
It is possible to have malware on your gio, wich has permission to read your data and personal info, and can send it to anywhere.
But there are lots of virusscanners, just use avast, its free, and definitions get updated every day.
But your dream wont happen by giving only sim info

Hehe, I actually still have 2 of my first phones, Nokia 5110 & 6110, that, except from the batteries which are long dead, still function extremely well when plugged to a charger...
BTW, if somenone knows some place where batteries for them could be purchased, I'd have some fun using them just for the shocked faces and laughs of friends and co-workers

I know there are several apps on the market that will help you find a lost phone. The wife really needs one and I'd appreciate suggestions. I am somewhat concerned about potential security issues and whether these apps require GPS to be left on all the time.
Tks
Personally I use lookout, but they also have an app that can be used even if your phone is already lost called plan b

Cant promise my gio will make it for 3 years, but if it doesnt get bricked or killed in action by water, cola, overclocking or falling from height, who knows how long I have it... if there comes a gio 2 with 1 ghz dualcore like ace then maybe I cant resist it, do need good developers for the device though

Hi guys,
I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy SII on eBay. I decided to take the plunge even though the seller said it was for "parts and not working". He said the problem he was having was that the phone would shut off by itself, no matter what he did. He said this happened maybe once every 10 times he pressed the sleep button.
I got it yesterday and started messing around with it. I haven't encountered the problem yet but I only used it for a few hours. I proceeded to successfully root the device and flashed a custom ROM (CyanogenMod 10 - JB 4.1.1) and it seems to work ok. I'm not using the phone yet and I guess I was just wondering if you think the problem may have just "gone away". If it did, I would feel very lucky. I won't know for sure until I start using the phone regularly, but I needed a reliable phone today at work and that's why I didn't bring it with.
Any thoughts on what could cause this issue and possible solutions are appreciated. I've read some people say it's related to the CPU or the button itself, or perhaps even the battery. The owner had never rooted the phone so he was just running the regular T-Mobile Gingerbread rom.
Thanks and Happy Friday!
Probably the power button problem

Thanks for answering, Teo. If it's that, it should be fairly simple to fix. I'll report back just in case somebody is having the same issue.
Since the JB ROM's suffer from random restarts and sleep of death issues, I would recommend flashing an ICS ROM. This will get you a more stable environment for testing, so if the device suddenly shuts it self off, you'll know it's not the ROM.

+1 to this suggestion. Flash a ROM that is known to be stable so you can confirm the original issue. I'd suggest stock (gb or ics, doesn't matter) for the best test environment.

I bought it used on eBay, I'm not the original owner. And I didn't see the SquareTrade warranty option for this purchase, perhaps because it was under "For parts & not working". I haven't come across the problem yet. I have flashed a few different roms (ICS) but every one of them has given me some type of problem. I'm still using my very reliable myTouch 4G and I'm starting to doubt if I really want to dump it for the SII.

I was playing around with phone for about an hour after this and then connected it to charger and went to sleep. I woke up at 11 am and noticed that my dear and beloved HTC is dead. Let me tell you from experience that this A100 is **** unless you put CM10 on it.
Acer did a great job of ruining this tablet with their ICS OTA update.
If you have a blast with FCs and a boatload of app compatibility issues, namely HD/THD games that even my god damn LG G2x that's stuck on Gingerbread/CM7 will play, by all means stay stock.
Now if you want to see what the A100 is REALLY capable of, do some reading, pick ypur ROM, and flash your chosen CM10 setup once. It's not going to accelerate EMMC failure that much quicker and the performance and just in general useablilty gains are a great payoff.
Justjackyl's two cents here.

Oh and to everyone, I think I theorized a way to keep it from bricking, I flashed a lot ALOT and it didn't brick, it died when I finally stopped using it! And the reason why, I think, is the work godmachine put in. The emmc cap erase work (or more not of) I think is why. When I switched recoveries and stopped running that glorious kernel, I think that's when it happened. SO IN CONCLUSION use his kernel and recovery religiously and I think you'll be OK. I might, probably, could be wrong but that's my theory. I did finally get the warranty taken care of and we sent it out Tuesday. So I might be back
