the display is supposed to use the most battery...
we can't help the basic laws of physics. --> screen on = battery use
if you want to save a little more, turn the brightness down. if you want to go to extremes use dark themes (if amoled)
if you don't want the display to use battery, don't turn it on

I don't think it's something wrong with your phone , as I can see. For me , the screen is the biggest consumer, too. But when have you taken that screenshot ? Is that for about 14 minutes after you've turned it on ? Because if it's so, it's normal that the display is the first consumator .. in 14 minutes since you have turned the phone on, the screen was detected as a primary consumator. Try letting it set for a while.. make some phone calls , browse the web and untick the automatic brightness (you should set it manually at about 30%). Then check it again and tell us if something changed. Good luck !

i don`t know what do you mean! your said is correct but not about 79 percent and not with such battery drain!! in cm7 i use only about 5 hours with wifi and it gets empty! is it right?

ok.i got it. could you please answer this question too? it doesn`t matter that you install a sense rom or a aosp rom.is it ok that in both of theme display consums more that other processes? and what is the best way to calibrate my battery?a way that works with battery calibrator for nexus one doesn`t work for me!it doesn`t reach to 3201 mv and suddenly it turns off(without shutting down animation!. what can i do to calibrate my battery?

thanks for your replying.but after 54 minutes and talk to someone still displayes consums 78 percent!is it okay!! can i trust to a software named lux to adjust the light to best level? sorry for my bad english.english isn`t my primary language!

and how can i find out that my phone has slcd or amoled screen?

I think it's better to set it manually because if you set it to automatically the light sensor will permanently be on and that drains your battery too. I've used Die Hard Battery script to clear the logs of the baterry and now i have 70% battery for about 15 hours :> (and i can tell you it is a normal use - games,a little internet and phone calls) . For the question about the sense/aosp rom.. the screen is on for both of the roms, isn't it ? This is NOT about theme, this is about the display/screen. To see if it's slcd of amoled, look on the back of the box and see if it is "3.7 inch amoled" or "3.7 touch-sensitive screen". It was a difference in hboots too, but I can't remeber..
Look at my screenshots and hit Thanks if helped. Good luck!
EDIT: here's the Die Hard Battery Calibrator (if you use this, it should be ok after the 2nd charge and after some reboots, just let it set for a while.. in the next few hours after the calibration, the battery will discharge quite quickly ) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18703418&postcount=5021

thanks.can you upload your pics in another site?i can`t see your screenshots! and should i reflash my rom again?or there is no need?? and how can i use that?

You don't have to flash the rom again. You have to download it and run the script with ScriptManager app (or in terminal emulator) ..search for some instructions on the link I gave to you.. Good luck

On this example, see that Awake bar? That's basically the time your phone is running although you have the screen off. If you have a lot of apps that are constantly updating or if you have poorly programmed apps, those will run and will not let your phone sleep thus more battery usage.
If the Awake bar is significantly greater than the Screen on bar, then you have a problematic app.

should i use this script every time or when my battery calibrated then i can use another script like super charger?

Right now I don't use the supercharger script like I had before. I'm running CM7.2RC1 with ManU kernel 2.1 and manages my app updates manually (yeah I'm a control freak). This is my battery stats for today. I haven't been using it much and my wake status is pretty much the same as my Screen on as it should be.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a302/ramonmitra/screenshot-1333661690835.png

should i set this script to run on every boot? a question irrelevant to this topic?i`m curious!is bcm for desire have theme ability or not?? if yes, then please if you can link me to that topic!!

Facebook and mail are running constantly for me, and 3G or WiFi is on. It's normal to be like that since the background services are on.

If you read the supercharger script thread, it says not to run any script at boot (however things might have changed since it's been a while since I used the script). The battery calibration script seems to be just wiping battery stats which really doesn't do anything. If you wanna calibrate the battery try this.

[Tip] How to analyze you battery drain

Hello all,
Here is my 2 cents contribution to all the people that are wondering why their batteries are out in 10 hours!
I would like to share my tool, and maybe get help with my code if people are interested.

The goal of my application is to show the battery drain in percent per hour.
This unit if for me the most important, I don't care about the charge level of my nexus.
So my analysis lead to:
5-10 % lost per hour when normal use.
more than 20% when on Youtube
about 1% (even less) during the night with wifi off.
Does it work on other devices running gingerbread??
Thanks for the app anyways!!

I just updated the app and removed thhe stupid graphs to have something more easy to read:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.WazaBe.android.BatteryDrain
Great idea! My suggestion would be to add an option to show how long it takes to lose 1% for each %battery.
Great app, but it doesn't seem to work with Force GPU Rendering On
Great idea, and here are my suggestions:
Feature to show summary
Something like this:
Start logging: [datetime]
Time now: [datetime]
Duration: [?d ?h ?m]
Average drain: 1% per X minutes.
Common phone settings:
* Brightness: ?%
* Airplane mode: ON
* WiFi: ON ?%
* 3G Data: ON ?%
* NFC: ON
* Sync: ON (5 accounts ... ) <--- if possible to check/stats
* etc.
----------------
When measuring WiFi/3G percentage, just check every 1% change whether it is OF or ON
The idea is to be able to make screenshot of this summary to compare with other user when discussing about battery drain.
You know, to make this tool as some kind of "standard" tool for battery drain measurement. That would be nice.

A lot of great suggestion, the main problem is to detect when wifi, 3G, Bluetooth, etc.. are ON during a lost of percent.. I will have to make a lot of approximations!
I will create a summary screen next week!

I'm using a GSM Galaxy Nexus that is running stock 4.0.2 thats unrooted and has a locked bootloader.
I downloaded the app from the market and initilly it didn't work with GPU Rendering. Since then, I believe you pushed an update? Now the UI is blue rather than white (a good choice) and now it does work with GPU Rendering on
Great start, love to see where this one goes.
DLed it. Will try it now..

Just to be clear, my app will never try to diagnose wich app is causing the drain, I don't want to make hasardous approximations...
My goal is to display the raw data in the most efficient way and to let the user make his own decisions and compare the drain with or without an app installed or some settings turned on off.
I will try to display only very accurate data only
Just a question...
Do you need a lot of explanation for the summary windows I just created?
I don't want to make a too complicated app and will now work on making the app nicer and more clear to understant, but I would like to know what id the most diffucult to understand from your side.
Thank a lot for your feedback.

I think those look good, just an easy way to see average drain. It would be quite cool if you could break it down with a couple of averages (kind of like you mentioned in your first post):
%drain during standby
%drain while in use
I like where your app is going so far. Keep up the good work!

I will of course implement that feature.
But you have to remember that the standby/in use detection will be quite approximative.
I need two consecutive points with screen OFF to start counting standby.
As you may turn on your screen during the interval, I don't like that for my computations... I can add some trigger, but I want my app to be nearly invisible regarding battery...
By the way, please wait one week or 2 and you will have something!
I'm quite good with the standby/in use detection being approximated. I'm primarily interested in seeing a value indicating battery drain in standby for long periods of time (like overnight) versus during the day while I am frequently using the device.
Definitely looking forward to what you can cook up!

Battery effiecient settings tips for our 1X (May help some with battery problem)

I am on Stock Rom (Forgot to mention this)
I average about 3.30 hours of screen time with my settings everyday, today I had 4.30 hours, 1.4 Internet surfing, 30 min voice calls, and 12 hours of wifi, total time 22.54 hours.
This is my best so far: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...79392&page=114 (I think I can reach better results (Have better average results now)
Also please feel free to share your settings.
My settings:
Unlocked and rooted.
LED Notifications off (except for SMS).
Fastboot in power settings unticket.
Sound Settings - Turned sensors Off: Quiet ring on pick up, Pocket mode, Flip for speaker.
Brightness Control using this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...rightnesslevel (I mostly leave it at 15% its more than enough for my vision at least, then if out and its really sunny I just switch to 50% its a widget so its easy to use).
All vibration settings, haptic feedback and stuff off(except for phone calls).
All auto-sync off (everything updates when you enter it like email and weather and others so no need to be on).
All animations Off (you won't notice any difference after awhile so it might as well be off).
Phone dial, keyboard and other tones off.
In developer options-> Background process limit set to 3. (Reverts after reboot/restart)
Using Core Control, can be found here (Must be rooted) http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1652136 and I have it set to 2 cores. (Reverts after reboot/restart)
Have the backlights on the 3 capacitive buttons on the bottom off at all times using Tasker using a mod made by backfromthestorm, credits go to him and nobnut, mod can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...1657619&page=3 (Reverts after reboot/restart).
Another mod from backfromthestorm (which can be found in the link above aswell)is better multi-tasking which changes the values in sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree file to 1536,2048,3584,5120,15360,20480, I set the values using Tasker. (Reverts after reboot/restart).
Another thing I do before going to sleep or not going to use the phone for a few hours is I use the built in app Task Manager's and kill all tasks and then turn the screen off, by doing this I have noticed that battery percentage doesn't mysteriously drop without using it.
Can't remember what other settings I may have at the moment but will add if memory allows
I have frozen the following apps and others:
I thought this way would be quicker and easier, I hope at least excuse my laziness otherwise

Decent stats:

This was pretty much not letting the phone rest from the moment it finished charging.
Will do some video tests later to see how long it can last while watching some HD flicks.

Very useful thread, thanks
Just one thing though, the LEDs used for the LED Notifications use so little power that you can leave them enabled and it will drain next to no power at all! Not sure about the capacitive LEDs though, I can't imagine they use much power either!

You are welcome, yeah I know that the LEDs may not save much battery at all but one thing I like about the capacitive lights is that I have the options as widget shortcuts on my screen so I can turn them on when I feel like I need them, but most of the time I keep them off

[SUPPORT][JB] CM10, BattOptimization

This Thread is for Optimizing your Battery Life for the ongoing CM10 builds by Quarx, and for my nagging questions.
First you should read about your Battery, and how it calibrates here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778492
then I recommend this older Thread of a guy who managed to squeeze out 6 days of juice from his Defy
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1022390
His approach is very simple; LessIsMore: no sync, no mobile Data, no widgets, no GPS, bare minimum Apps....
I tried that with Quarx builds, and of course it works. The Downside is, there`s no more shiny stuff on my phone. The good thing apart from increased Battery Life, the OS becomes very fast and a great Testgadget for Quarx work in a minimal environment.
But from here I`d like to dig deeper, and get more Power:
Which System APP`s can be deleted whithout Problems? (I started with trebuchet (nova Launcher) that gives 10MB)
Do you now good alternative APP`s with a low Energy Footprint?
Do you use your phone in any special Battery efficient way? (I have all my non super important APP`s stored as backups with Titanium Backup, and restore them when needed)
WLAN always on?
What other things help with Battery Life on CM10 Jelly Bean?

If LessIsMore, in the way you described it, is the way to go for better battery performance, it will be much more efficient to abandon SMART Phones all together and go back to NOKIA Age.
In today time (21st century) we need to be connected to the net and cloud AT ALL TIME therefore there must be other solution about batteries. Either bigger capacities (RAZR MAXX) or optimized software.
Quarx and the rest from XDA or CM can not help with the hardware (Big capacity batteries) but could optimized the software. I am aware that everyone has different requirement/need BUT there must be a point to start from (may be at least 8 hours (while on work) 3G DATA On (messaging, e-mails), All the goodies (screen related fancy widget, etc.) some Browsing, some Music/Radio) until back home.
And so say (for example): Quarx Rom v.X is out now (and you will be sure that by this set of min. requirement) it will last for at least while on work (typically 8 hours)
It will eliminate half of the question here about "Battery drain and how to overcome it"
At least that is the way I think about all this issues.

I'm not too battery efficient but I am curious as to what I can tweek in the display settings since most of it has some alien jargon. i.e. the Light Sensor Levels...
Ok, here's my current setup I'm reading for battery savings. I think it sets a good balance between efficiency and usability. I'm using Llama to automate all of this.
Data switches on when the phone is unlocked and switches off 2 min after screen off. If I'm at home, the WiFi also switches on with the same settings. When WiFi is connected, data switches off.
When mobile data is on, 2G/3G is on. When the screen turns off or when the WiFi is connected, 2G only.
Sync is disabled, but every hour the mobile data is enabled and it turns on sync and requests update.
I've mucked around with custom auto brightness levels and vsel values as well, and it automatically sets to vsel1 when the screen is off.
Here is my usage from yesterday. This included about 50 min of voice calls.
Sent from my Jelly Bean powered Motorola Defy
The screen, and specifically the backlight are major battery hogs.
With this in mind, I'd suggest, if you use your phone mostly at night (like me) then even minimum brightness can be too much...
Use an app like Screen Filter to reduce your brightness levels right up to 0% backlight.
I use the light sensor levels in the day, and at night, when I find the screen a bit too bright, I switch to the lowest sensor level and add a filter of up to 54% or 72%, as need be.
Doing this, I've noticed that screen related battery consumption goes down from 90% with screen continuously on to ~75%.

Can someone share his experience with the sensor levels for the automatic brightness? Also maybe for the other 'automatic brightness' values ..
... apart of the fact that the number of stages has to be changed to save values in the current Quarx Rom

I love my Llama!
I've been looking for something like this since I left the factory supplied motoblur eclair which had some simple data management functions built in. There are literally hundreds of different actions and conditions to personalise. This is sure to extend battery life.
One question. Have you noticed if the app itself uses much battery?
Thanks for sharing... everyone needs a Llama!

The power usage is really minimal. The location method uses the cell id of the tower you are connected to, so does not use additional battery like the Google Location Service or GPS.
Llama is definitely in my shortlist for favorite app.
Also, one of the latest beta release has a profile sharing feature. If I can figure that out I might post some of my profiles.

Ridiculous batterylife

I've had the 10 for about a month now, moved from my M8 and the batterylife is terrible. I set up the 10 as a new device, downloaded my apps and moved across my SD card. Honestly my 2 and a half year old M8 got better batterylife, I mainly use chrome, youtube and poweramp, no/minimal 3D games, auto brightness about 1/3 up. The 10 is getting me about 2.5-3.5 hrs of screen on, that's absolutely atrocious for my uses, I've never had a device drain so quickly. My M8 by comparison used to get 4-5Hrs screen on until the android 5 and 6 updates hit. I turn off Bluetooth and GPS when not in use and greenify hasn't made a substantial difference either.
I would prefer not to root this phone for the sake of easier updates so kernels and roms are out of the question, any idea why the batterylife is so bad? What should I do to see what's draining the cell so fast? Thanks in advance for any responses.

Hi Ryan,
Have you optimised your battery? Setting - Power - Battery Optimisation. This helped me a little after struggling with poor battery life. I also run with power saving enabled and haven't noticed any performance issues. I can get around 24 hrs use with these settings enabled. My screen on time and most others is in the 3 hr to 3.5 hr range, and I wouldn't expect much more to be honest.
See how you go with these settings applied.
Download Gsam battery monitor to make sure an app isn't stopping your device dozing when idle as well.
Regards Dan

Thanks for the quick reply Dan,
Used to always use power saver mode on my M8 until HTC removed the option to use power saver without capping screen brightness and since the quick settings are set it's quite a hassle to constantly toggle when outdoors. I am using battery optimisation, I'll give gsam a go.

P.S. And make sure you do not use Chrome or AliExpress, and spent 20 minutes to shut down battery optimization for all apps.. Power >> Battery Optimization >> then one by one: Off, Off, Off, etc...

Why should we turn off battery optimization? Does it make battery worse?

So whats the point in the whole "battery optimization" name? Should i also turn off gaming optimization in boost+?
First of all disable boost+, clean up ram will just make things worst, google the reason if you want to know why.
second, disable all unused app, service, there are quite a few come with the HTC10
third, install better battery status, look for alarm and wakelock, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809 , remember to enable the permission is #4 post.
there quite a lot of app have too much wakelock and alarm, prevent the phone go to deep sleep, eg: techchurch app
you can also install some battery log to record the % drop vs time, I use this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kr.hwangti.batterylog
with all this above, I can keep using chrome, facebook, whatsapp with wifi, consume about 1% per 5~6 mins, If I just let it idle then it can last for more then 25hrs with light use.

battery optimization should not be disable unless you have problem with those app, it stop app running in background when you phone idle for a while. It does sometime consume more battery in android 5.0, but most of the bug fixed in 6.0. There are some document how it work in android.
boost+ "clean up" will just make battery worse, android (bettey say most OS, include windows, linux, IOS) will keep the app stay in ram so the app don't need to load again next time, thus save battery. app stay in ram will not use more battery, and as the above battery optimization will stop it after a while when idle. the only reason to manually stop/clean a app is when the app keep running abnormal, consume too much battery unexpected, such as keep making wakelock and alarm prevent the phone go to deep sleep. most of this app will just reload after you kill it, so boost+ "clean up ram" is not useful most of the time, uninstall such app or disable them is the solution.
gaming optimization reduce the resolution, actually it only can save very little battery, but for some game running in QHD is no different in FHD, so why not let the it "optimize"
How do you disable game optimization? I can't find it in my settings. Thanks!

Oh, I can't find it because I uninstalled that app as soon as I got my phone lol.

battery drain

So I'm not going to lie... I'm hating this phone.
Camera is awful and now I'm getting massive battery drain.
I was at 100% and unplugged at 2am by 7am without any use at all my battery was down to 89%. I've found the battery stats but it doesn't add up.
Is there anywhere I can see the hardware usage?
So far I've dropped the screen refresh to 60htz, resolution to HD, dark mode on, always on is off, tap and lift to wake are off.... my 2 Yr old phone didn't drop this much!
Can anyone help? I'm really trying to salvage something from this phone but if the camera issue isn't sorted by Samsung and I can't get more than half a day battery out of it I fear this maybe the biggest waste of money ever
so in 30 mins of being unplugged on a full charge, not being touched or used at all the battery has dropped by 3%
Exynos ?
Sent from my a40 using XDA Labs
same here - i dropped rez from 120 FHD to 60 FHD thinking is going to improve but had the same battery life - so it doesnt look like its the refresh rate but rather something in the background - could be phone trying to find a 5g signal - as am outside - DK - still is rubbish
exynos990. can i turn the 5g off?
Samsung unfortunately still failed to optimize its Exynos processor so you have to manually sort everything out .. all the apk that don't need have disabled and ones i use less have put into a deep sleep... 96Hz refresh rate, 70% brightness, sync., location etc.all on ...WiFi/data 80/20%... all under ideal conditions, at home (due to self-isolation) .... and after that it looks like this...S20 Ultra-Exynos

Ok..
1. Go to settings >> apps and here you can manually disable almost any app that you do not need...
2. Go to settings >> Device care >> battery >> app power management..
- here you can put the app to deep sleep etc...
...... do this ... for now [emoji3]
So iv installed a battery monitor and the screen is using around 1% every 4 mins. I'm on dark mode, 60hz refresh, auto brightness, HD+
....
Something don't seem rite

I have s20 Exynos 4G and was also shocked by the battery initially. Some things that helped:
- Did a factory reset and setup everything manually, with data moved by Samsung Switch battery was dying in 2.5 hours
- Disabled Edge panel, seems it used location a lot
- Put Facebook into deep sleeping apps
- Turned off AOD
After the above, my phone is reaching 4.5-5 hours SOT, display at [email protected]

I was thinking of the next phone I buy as I doubt if manufacturers like Samsung will debloat their OSs as much as we want, so being able to disable some apps is useful.
I did it on my stock S5 years ago, just one of those things I had forgotten to do on this as it's only a few days old.
