Kids Place - With Child Lock - By kiddoware
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kiddoware.kidsplace
I haven't found anyone posting about this app yet, so I wanted to let everyone with kids know about this app! This app is a MUST if you occasionally let kids use your phone or have been afraid to hand over your phone to the kids because you were worried about them getting in to your email, deleting things, changing settings, making phone calls, or worst, making in app purchases!
Google should include this built-in with Android! iOS can't do this, even though I wish it could.
Android parental control with child lock. Protects your kids, data and apps.
An app launcher with a child lock that protects your personal data and restricts kids to apps you have approved. Kids Place also prevents children from downloading new apps, making phone calls, texting or performing other actions that can cost you money. Includes convenience features for parents such as auto app restart, useful for small kids who accidentally exit launched apps.
Features:
★ Custom home screen displays only apps that parents have authorized
★ Can prevent children from buying or downloading new apps
★ Capable of blocking incoming calls when Kids Home is running
★ Capable of disabling all wireless signals while Kids Home is running to avoid exposure to cell phone, wifi and Bluetooth radiation
★ Can restarts apps accidentally stopped by small children, allowing parents to stay focused on their own tasks.
★ Add custom wallpaper to customize your child’s experience while in Kids Place
★ Timer feature to lock Kids Place after specified amount of time.
★ Appropriate for children of all ages - babies, toddlers, even teenagers
In this Parental Control app, Home; Back; Search and Call buttons are locked so that kid cannot get out of the Kids Place or make phone calls.

At the moment, Google Play says it's not compatible with ICS, but I've installed the .apk and it runs just fine for me. The author says they are just polishing some cosmetic things before they approve it for ICS. If anyone is interested, I can try and get permission to post the .apk for everyone running ICS.
Spread the word about this great app. Everyone I've showed it to loves it! If you don't have kids using your phone, maybe you could use this to lock down your phone before you let your cat play with it.
Have a Great Day!
Smoke.007

Current .apk as of April 4th, 2012
I got permission to post the current latest .apk for anyone running Ice Cream Sandwich. Just remember, the author says they are still polishing the version for ICS, but it seems to currently run perfectly for me.
Anyone else can just grab this app from the Market, I mean Google Play.
Smoke.007

the apk is not working, also only 1kb. I would be happy if you could post it again. thanks.

Re-uploaded the file. Sorry for the bad upload! Please try again now. I downloaded the new attachment and it's the correct size now.
Have a Great Day!
Smoke.007

works perfect now, thanks!

Just installed from Play store (not on ICS) - thanks for the app recommendation!

Thanks for this... installed on mine and my wifes phone... works great! Now I don't have to worry about my 19 month old daughter deleting anything when she grabs my phone...

Before you ask yes I have used it I have been trying it for two days now. Chameleon is not worth your time or money and despite the intention of the creators is NOTE deeply customizable. What it is is a series of widgets on a a couple of nice looking backgrounds. That's it in it's entirety. You have very little control over where you place the widgets (there is a strict grid pattern to use) or how much you can resize them (according to this grid pattern) and when you resize them smaller these widget they lose a lot of info (ie what they display). Only widgets desgined by Chameleon can be used and right now there are only 5 (twitter, gmail, facebook, instagram, and news...with very limited sources), so forget about using any widgets from your favorite apps unless chameleon deigns to create one in the future. These widgets also have limited functionality and you have no control over that limited functionality. Say you want to manually set your location on a weather app, or set your facebook app to update manually or perhaps every two hours instead of one. You are out of luck, it's chameleons way or the highway. Want an app (not a widget) on your desktop, well you can but only along the bottom edge of the screen and only five. Have multiple gmail accounts and would like notifications for each one better be prepared to have multiple large widgets taking up screen real estate or your out of luck. As for the supposed context wonderfeature, it's been tried before. Do you really want to have to jump through extra hoops to do something because it is a certain time of day or you are logged on to a certain network, if you like those extra steps then this is for you, if you like everything ready to go at your finger tips when and where you want it then this is best left alone. For crying out loud hitting the home button at the bottom of your screen doesn't even take you to your homescreen. This home screen replacement has limited functionality, so unless twitter, facebook, and instagram updates are your entire world (and even then there are better widgets included with other apps) this app will not be worth even 15 minutes (the refund window) of your time. If you have broader interests, and need something that you can set up exactly how you want it, to be useful for work and play AVOID THIS HOMESCREEN.

They are however going to (have already?) release an SDK that allows developers to develop their own widgets so hopefully you won't be stuck with just the ones they provide. Whether this actually takes off is another matter. I might well buy it myself to try it out but at $10, and, currently, a limited widget selection, can't see it really flying off the shelves myself.
Yeah. I can't believe anyone funded this. What a joke.
Easily done with minimal effort on existing, free software.
I searched for a Chameleon thread in all the Nexus 7 forums and didn't see one, or I wouldn't have created a new thread. However I made a video for anyone interested to see it working.
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUI2oPNqBW4&hd=1
But as everyone else is saying, its very limited, and after using it for over a day I am getting bugs and the out of the 5 widgets I have 3 broke and I had to recreate it to make it work again.
They had a concept video that looked very promising and one of the reasons why I wanted to support. Wireless Media streaming while still being able to use your tablet for other things, separate user profiles, and a stylish looking UI that can evolve to what you need. You can see that here: http://youtu.be/eWZ7guxro2g
So many flaws with your statements I have quoted.

1) Apex, Nova, GoLauncher, LauncherPro, etc. all force you to use a "grid" for your widgets. This isn't a flaw with Chameleon, it's called Android. YOu can have a widget take up th whole screen or just one single square. f course, most the widgets will be useless taking up just one square, but that's the case for most widgets unless the app maker made a 1x1 specific idget. Great thing with Chameleon though is that the widgets adapt to what size you make them. THe overwhelming majority of widgets you use on Apex or any other launcher don't unless the appmaker designed multiple size widgets.

2) Right NOW the only widgets that are available are from Chameleon. It's a BETA. It's goin to ave limited functionality. They haven't released the API yet. Once they do that, which they will, anyone that can code HTML5 can create a widget for Chameleon. One will not have to know how to code for Android. Saying that the only widgets you'll ever get are from Chameleon is a 100% lie unless not another single sole on the face of the earth decides to make a widget.
These widgets also have limited functionality and you have no control over that limited functionality. 3) It's a beta. The app and the widgets are not finalized. Just because you can't edit it now doesn't mean you will never be able to. They have a very long list of things they still want to do with it. That's why it's called BETA.

Partially false. You can have a lot more than five. THe bottom dock scrolls, you can put as many apps as you want in the dock.
Seriously, if you are going to come on here and criticize an app, at least learn a thing or two about it instead of spouting out a bunch of false and/or misleading statements.

Why is though that if I run Apex, Nova...etc. the majority of widgets in the play store work with these but wont with Chameleon? ..because they are written for Android and not html5? Now forgive as I dont know much about how it all works but are you saying that from now on anyone making an app and a widget for that app must build their widget to work with all standard launchers and then re-build it again to work with Chameleon seperately? How many app Devs are actually going to go through this much trouble? I'm starting to feel like I have been suckered out of 10 bucks for an app I will most likely never use now. I should have read the fine print because all I saw was a really cool looking launcher that I assumed ran all the current widgets like any other launcher.
look very nice
its not worth it tried it out myself big dissapointment. grab a couple nifty backgrounds and use the widgets out in andriod market and you can basically have same thing. what a joke this was.

Really? Do you know of an app that changes the theme/home screen your Nexus 7 based on the time of the day, or based on your location, etc.?
Update.
I received my registration and was able to install and test the Chameleon beta launcher. I have tested plenty of beta and even alpha ROMs and apps over the last few years and this is a first. Most betas of anything I have ever tested were buggy at times but you still got the feel and general idea for what the ROM or app was about. In fact a beta of anything generally has the look and functionality of the finished product with maybe still needing some bug fixes and tweaks here and there.
So how is this a first? Its the first time I have seen any Android developer take an idea and spend an hour to code into something that will at least boot or load and call it a beta. The crap I just tested isn't even an alpha!!! Honestly I don't even know what it was??? The only thing I can compare it to would be to take your home computer, uninstall windows 7 and then install one of the earliest version of windows from like 1992. Sadly I'm not even exaggerating a little bit. I'm confused!! This has to be some kind of joke or at least a scam. I still can't wrap my mind around what I saw other then I added 3 of the 5 or so silly widgets to the 3 ridiculous screens and didn't get much farther then that before the app crashed. The wallpaper has the resolution of a flip phone and was apparently made in windows paint using the paint brush tool. You do however have the option of changing the wallpaper to something exactly like it in a different color.
This has to be a scam. I'm worried because they make you authenticate using your Google credentials, password and all through their app. If you haven't spent the 5 or 10 on this yet then nows your chance to run from this as fast as you can. I'm not so worried about the 10 bucks I lost as much as I'm about what it was I really installed, what was running in the background that I don't know about and is my identity at risk. Yes folks it was that atrocious.
Pretty much you guys have posted my disappointments with the launcher. I am going to uninstall and keep up to date as to how it improves over time. I had been stock jb and was satisfied but will give nova or apex a try now.
So far, like many others, I am unimpressed with the launcher and sort of expected a bit more from it even if it is only in BETA but I don't mind. I am interested to see in what comes of it... so far, stock Android launcher suits me just fine and has done so since flashing Oxygen ROM for my HTC Desire way back when.

IR Blaster, Air Stuffs?

Hey all -
These are probably basic questions, and I tried searching in this forums here, wasn't too successful, so I figured I'd throw this out there. My last phone was a Galaxy S 1 (yeah, *1*. Fascinate, from Verizon), so I have many generations of advancements I'm wading through.
I've seen the ads, and have had VERY limited success with the 'Air' things - like scrolling using your eyes (or tilting device). The 'touch' to me seems a little.. pointless, since it only registers me when I'm a fraction of a centimeter away from the screen - at that distance, it's just easier TOUCHING the screen.
Is this everyone's experience? Or is my phone just trying to keep its distance from me? Or are my hands and eyes defective? (A possibility!)
Also, are there any other recommended 'Remote Control' apps that can control multiple things (like my TV, DVD player) without requiring anything extra (liks a server or app on the TV, etc.) - Similar to the 'S Watch' app, which is focused on what's on TV instead of controlling it.
--Me.
The air things and motions are all a bit gimmicky, they were on the GS3 and they are now. I'd recommend just turning them most/all of them off and enjoying the phone. As for a remote app I think we need to wait for Samsung to release the API so that apps can use the IR blaster. Although I've found the WatchOn app works great, just ignore the suggestions, there's also an option to put the whole remote in the notifications bar if you want to bypass the app entirely.

I doubt you're the only one. The Eye Scroll feature is just straining my eyes trying to get the phone to detect. Waste of time right now (too much lag). The Air Gestures are, as you said, kind of pointless and a waste of time. I have actually disabled all the "Smart" or "Air" features for now until they become more responsive and/or more useful.
WatchOn (/Peel Smart Remote) works pretty well for me. I'm able to control my TV, DVR (though I prefer the FiOS Remote app for this). Haven't tried with my DVD player yet, but then again, I haven't used my DVD player in a while.
Thanks guys.
I have it all disabled now - well, I DID before I installed CM10.1. One App on the App Store that said it supported the S 4 reported back to me that my 'device' was missing the hardware for the IR blaster. So once reflash stock, I'll keep with the WatchOn app for now.
I'm coming from the GS1 Vibrant, so there is definitely an adjustment period. While the 'Air' and 'Smart' features are gimmicky for sure, the Air features has its moments. Similar to their commercial about the "pool party," if ur hands are sticky, dirty, etc you can check for missed calls/texts if the screen is off. If the screen is on you can read entire texts. However, for me it isn't working with texts very consistently. As for the Smart features I disabled them all as I can see no consistent and practical use for them. I figure its only a matter of time before I turn off all the Air features as well. As for the IR blaster, it works perfectly. I'm just waiting for the NFL season to start so I can tune the bar tvs to the game I want to watch
After a little bit of experimentation and looking like a fool I've determined that the only air/motion feature that I'm going to leave on is the "Air View > Information Preview." The hovering your finger to get a preview in Gallery/Calendar/Messages is actually pretty useful.

Try this free app . It's good

I like, and find decently useful, everything of the new stuff except the ones that involve your eyes....(scroll, pause). Totally useless. Almost aggravating.

The watchon app works pretty good. They keep updating it getting more and more codes. You can add a bunch of devices to control. I have my tv, cable box and receiver working. And set up to change the volume on the receiver.

[LIST]Great Apps You haven't heard of + Share YOUR App Recommendations Here!

By no means am I taking credit for this. I have copied this over from the 9505 with permission from IRONMAN link to original thread
I will be maintaining this thread over here.....
As said per IRONMAN:
Hello, everyone. I have decided to make this Recommend-An-App thread so that YOU can share your favorite apps with everyone in this community.
****BUT THERE IS ONE CONDITION NO SUPER POPULAR APPS****
Don't post apps like PowerAMP and Flipboard and Swiftkey. EVERYONE knows about these apps.
The purpose of this thread is to make everyone aware of new apps which are largely unheard of. Apps which are not so popular. I was too tired of seeing numerous lists full of apps I already knew about.
So everyone, start posting! A brief summary would be appreciated (Unless the name is self-explanatory) as well as a PlayStore link (we all are too lazy to search for ourselves)
I will try to keep this list as up-to-date as possible.
1) Atom Launcher- A great launcher with many options for customization while maintaining a minimalistic look. I personally recommend Typo Black Theme to go along with it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...GwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5kbHRvLmF0b20ubGF1bmNoZXIiXQ..
Typo Black Theme- https://play.google.com/store/apps/...oZXJleC50aGVtZS5OYW11U01vZGVyblR5cG9CbGFjayJd
2) WordWeb - In my opinion, THE best dictionary out there. Why? Because its offline. Doesn't require an internet connection!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...53b3Jkd2Vic29mdHdhcmUuYW5kcm9pZC53b3Jkd2ViIl0.
3) Wallbase - I've tried 'em all and nothing has helped me find better wallpapers than this app. And most of them are full HD.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5jaXRjLndhbGxiYXNlIl0.
4) LyricsPlayer - This app shows a notification on the status bar when you're playing music, clicking on it automatically searches for the lyrics and displays them.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...EsImNvbS5saW5rLmFuZHJvaWQubHlyaWNzcGxheWVyIl0.
5) Holo Compass - The most minimalistic and cool looking compass around.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...1bGwsMSwxLDEsInBsLnN1cml4LmhvbG8uY29tcGFzcyJd
6) Circle Alarm - A holo themed and minimalistic alarm app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS50amVhbm5pbi5hbGFybSJd
7) Node- Just a super cool live wallpaper
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zdWZmaWNrLm5vZGUiXQ..
8) Pimp My Music - This is great for fixing up the ID3 tags in your songs and for finding all the right cover art.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImF1LmNvbS5waWNrdXAucG1tIl0.
9) T.E.A.M. Battery Bar - This displays a coloured bar on top of the status bar showing the battery level (remember MIUI?). A must have for me.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5wdnkuYmF0dGVyeWJhciJd
10) Active Lockscreen - I think this is one of the best lockscreens out there.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5jZWxsdGljay5sb2Nrc2NyZWVuIl0.
11) ConvertIt - Another holo themed and minimalistic app, this one is a unit converter.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/editpost.php?do=editpost&p=42539176
12) Phone Addict - This great little app counts how many times I check my phone. Over a period of time, shows the day I checked my phone the most times, the least times, and how often I check on average.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...5wYW5kdXRlY2hub2xvZ3kucGhvbmVhZGRpY3RmcmVlIl0.
13) Llama - For me this app is a MUST HAVE. I'll explain how it works. Basically, when you're at home or at work, your phone is getting signal from multiple cellphone towers nearby. What this app does is remember these towers and triggers certain profiles when they are in the vicinity. So, when I reach home, my phone automatically turns silent and when none of these towers are in range i.e. when I'm outside, it automatically increases the ring volume. You'll have to let it scan once, of course.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5rZWJhYi5MbGFtYSJd
14) Godville - This is a super simple game. You are God and you create your hero and lead him on quests etc. Superb time-killer.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDEsImNvbS5nb2R2aWxsZWdhbWUuYW5kcm9pZCJd
15) Plasma Sound HD - This is a super cool app which lets you create music which is visually stunning too. Try it out yourself.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...mNvbS5yai5wcm9jZXNzaW5nLnBsYXNtYXNvdW5kaGQiXQ..
16) Sensor Music Player - A music player which lets you use various sensors to change track, pause etc. For example, if I'm using my headphones and my phone is in my pocket, I can just tap my pocket to change the track. Pretty cool. eh?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS56Z3VpLm11c2ljc2hha2VyIl0.
17) Clockr - A text based clock similar to minimalistic text, but just simpler.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDEsImNvbS56ZWhyby5hbmRyb2lkLmNsb2NrciJd
18) TasteKid - This is a very handy app. All you have to do is type the names of certain movies, music artists, books you like and it analyzes your taste and suggests similar movies, music, books etc.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...1bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS50YXN0ZWtpZC5UYXN0ZUtpZCJd
19) My Device Storage Analyser - This app has a very nice UI and is a simple way of finding out which files are eating up your space.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...2JpbGVfaW5mb2dyYXBoaWNzX3Rvb2xzLm15ZHJpdmUiXQ..
20) Pew Pew - It is a retro style arcade game which is one of my all time favourite mobile games. Must try.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...GwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5taWtlc21pdHR5LnBld3BldzIiXQ..

Full Screen Caller ID - It delivers just what it sounds like it's promising. It puts a full screen HD picture as the call screen instead of the stock Android one. There are 5 or 6 other apps that do the same thing but I've been using this one since I had a MyTouch3G when it was the only one of it's kind available and I couldn't live without it now. It's very customizable so you can make the screen look pretty much anyway you want for an incoming call and set whatever picture you want for each person in your address book. It also makes answerign and ignoring easy as you can swipe across any part of the screen. See the atatchement for what one of my friend looks like on an incoming call...you can add the phone number, make it landscape, change the font or text size, add answer and reject buttons or take them away as I have etc etc etc. And you can get to the original phone app with the dial pad and what not with a simple double tap on the screen.
I've never been able to figure out why this isn't stock with Android personally. That's how much I love this app.

Best Launcher for elderly and kids

Hi, i would like to introduce the best launcher for elderly and kids.
My - almost - 70 year old Mom got herself her first Android phone yesterday. We installed Necta Launcher and set up the essential apps (WhatsApp, GMail, SwiftKey). Within minutes, she was flying solo. And this from someone who has never used a touch-device before. Necta Launcher does everything it promises to do, and does it brilliantly. And i can get the position of my Mom.
The app thread at xda is :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2690914.
Great app for my dad. Thanks for sharing!
This is a pretty sweet launcher for older people or people that are just plain technology challenged
Wonderful app for my mom reading without glasses.
I also like it even i am not old people. But position feature don't show the accurate potion, developer could start GPS module when entry position UI.
Looks nice, try it for my parents.
Thanks for sharing, i could let me dad use my unused 4.0 inch android phone just install necta launcher.

One Month of use and playing with it, here is the result

Hello,
So, let me start by saying that I am by no means a developer but a tinkerer by trade. I got the Fire Phone the day after Release. My initial reaction was disgust at the interface and usability of it all. I found the carrousel interface to hinder my use of the phone. The Apps I needed always rotated away and I would spend more time scrolling over to find something than it would ever take me to find and launch from the traditional Android launcher screens. So I set about finding a way to "restore" functionality.
Previously I've had a Motorola Milestone, Motorola Atrix and Samsung GS3. My SGS3 had abysmal battery life, which is why I switched to a new phone. Comparatively, the Fire Phone so far has had brilliant battery life. I've been unplugged overnight and still been at 40%+ in the morning when it was around 80% the night before.
I had used towel root recently on my SGS3 and I tried it on the Fire Phone. It worked. I just downloaded the most recent version from the towel root site, allowed apps from other sources in settings, and first try it worked. I installed Root Explorer from the Amazon Store. Using the instructions from another Thread about getting G-Apps onto a Kindle Fire I was able to load Chrome, Play Music, Google Maps, Gmail, and the play store. There are some small quirks though. The Play Store does not work. It says no connection when opened. And the Google play services is constantly crashing and slightly annoying. I also found on AppAPK a download for the galaxy launcher. I installed that and at first I could not set it as the default launcher but There appeared to be some sort of update or something that rebooted my phone at this point the launcher asks which to use when it needed the launcher at boot and the galaxy launcher is not set to default. It still crashes if I try to set a background or widget but I at least have a functional home screen.
The only thing that really stops me from having a great experience with it now is an issue with Google Maps. Road names overlap and after driving for a short about of time words just become giant gray blobs of unreadable garbage. Navigation works fine and the maps themselves look okay, the words just become completely useless.
I do have to say that it has a really nice Camera, pictures look great.
I also wish there was a back button......this has been really hard to get used to as well. Having to swipe up from the bottom or hit the Home
I hope that there will be a custom Firmware someday, until then I feel like unless you really like Amazon kindle and Amazon services, or can tolerate a hundred workarounds to try and gain more functionality, stay away from this phone.
My overall Rating would be as follows:
Performance - 4.5 - I run into some hiccups every now and then and it gets hot even if you are just web browsing for a little bit.
Battery Life - 5.0 - Sooo much better than my old SGS3
Ease of Use - 1.0 - Out of the box, coming from several other Android solutions, it was the worst thing I have ever used. After all the tweaking and hacking ~4.0
Features - 3.5 - There are a lot of nice features but overall there are a lot of Gimmicks...also why no SD slot? No Google Play yet also hurts...
Overall - 3.5/5.0 - At least I got another free year of Prime out of it...
I have an Important Question: please help me
1.Can this phone show 3D side bye side movies without glasses ( like LG optimus 3D and HTC Evo 3D) ?
2. Can this Phone Capture 3D images or videos?

Features - 3.5 - There are a lot of nice features but overall there are a lot of Gimmicks...also why no SD slot? No Google Play yet also hurts...
Overall - 3.5/5.0 - At least I got another free year of Prime out of it...

I have an Important Question: please help me
1.Can this phone show 3D side bye side movies without glasses ( like LG optimus 3D and HTC Evo 3D) ?
2. Can this Phone Capture 3D images or videos?

No to both.
the 3d is just a simulation, but a very convincing one. It uses perspective, and the best guess knowledge it gains from 4 cameras to guess where your head is. In theory, this could be used to watch a 3d movie, or photography, but it would need to be specially formatted for the Fire phone. As far as 3d recording goes, nope.
The 3d they call Dynamic Perspective. It is a lot like looking into a photo, but then being able to look around the inside of the photo as if it were a diorama. They use it in games and throughout the interface, though both are in the early stages.

Don't think of it as a 3D phone. Pretty much only the lock screen is 3D. Out of the five cameras on the phone, only one is a camera and the other four are used to track where your head is. That being said, it is a fantastic phone.

Hello,
So, let me start by saying that I am by no means a developer but a tinkerer by trade.

Have you considered that the Ease of Use is hard because you're comparing it to other Android platforms? It really shouldn't be compared to Android at all.

Why shouldn't I compare it to android? It is android under the hood with a multitude of tweaks. Even iOS and Windows phone both support having apps arranged in a manner that makes finding them easy and how you want it. So far the Fire has not shown that. I had an original kindle fire, it was quickly rooted and I loaded custom ROMs within a few weeks because the interface was really bad for running multiple apps.
For me personally and anyone else I've shown it to, it is far from user friendly. But again that is my opinion of it and that was what I gave here, my opinion and observations.

Well I have it a week , I sideload the 4.6.1 update and updated in 5 minutes, I followed the tutorial to install Google services and play store and works flawlessly, I installed Google maps and youtube and chrome Along with more Google apps and other apps and they work flawlessly , I can install custom launchers and different keyboards but I like the stock launcher as its fresh from just seeing a grid off apps and the stock keyboard is fine, the only work around I did was to manually install the 4.6.1 update sand install Google apps, the phone is fast and never lags and has good speakers and hardware
The home button doubles as a recent app selector. Try installing 4.6.1 like suggested it totally makes the a better experience.
I'm using it for about a month and easy of use is OK, much better than some say it is. I'm using it with stock launcher and I can't understand this obsession of many users here to s**t all over it. Main problem with FireOS is absence of persistent notifications on top bar - system tray, and inability to choose which quick actions you want to have in system tray. Lock screen is also pretty basic but not to bad. Installing other launcher will not solve this problems. UX can be better but can be worse either. Overall its a great phone for price under $200.
