Can we flash the CM9 nightly builds on the SGH-T989 that are posted in the SGH-I777 forums? When you go to the cyanogenmod website, the rom is classified under "galaxy s2," and I didn't see specifics. Anyone done this?
Just picked up this device and I was hoping to get CM9 running.

Oh... and coming from the nexus one has been a pleasant surprise with a screen this nice!
No you can not unless you want a brick.only flash roms made for the TMobile galaxy s2/sgh-t989 and some AT&T skyrocket/sgh-i727 builds are okay but please do your research before flashing anything

CM9
In order to get CM9 working on our phones, the drivers for our processor would be needed anyway. And due to the large list of GSII devices, I doubt that CM9 will be out for our phone any time soon.

i know when my friend had the HD2 there were nuances that allowed for the flashing of ROMS that had been developed for the EVO but were compatible with t-mobile's version (HD2). I was not sure if those exceptions existed with this device so thank you for your answer.

i see. i did find on the cyanogen blogs the info about there being a potential CM9 in the works but no solid information just yet as they were open to searching for devs to assist them in the process.

i already have CM9 installed on my old I9000
is fun to play around with, but not ready for prime time, because a lot of the Android Market apps that i use on a daily basis are not compatible yet with ICS
so it's going to be a long painful wait before being able to enjoy ICS fully, even if it becomes available for our T989

i agree. prolly best to just get a new ICS device if you want that. but.. it's still good to see the evolution of software.

eehhhhhh... what does that has to do with getting a new hardware?
the current hardware are perfectly fine, just the programmers needs to get their things together and make sure their software are ICS compatible
There's quite a few devices with cm9 alphas already. We wont be waiting to long to see it on our phone.

Even the g2x has a alpha version of cm9 working since Thanksgiving night so I'm sure this phone will have it soon. Also this is my first Samsung smartphone I am hoping Samsung does a little better than LG when it comes to updates and support for their phone. The g2x was a nightmare thank God I had one of the few g2x's that did not have all the bugs.

I thought it was common knowledge that CM9 was being developed. No?
This thread is a fail. What does Nexus S development have anything to do with the GS2 ICS rom? They are entirely different chipsets.

It would be cool if/when it becomes possible for our phones to multi-boot or at least a savvy developer creates a VMWare-esque app or any other way for any other way for us to use multiple ROMs simultaneously without the need to backup, wipe, flash, repeat for each different ROM we wanna try. For example, this would be useful for us to try out a ROM that's not daily driver-ready without wiping our daily driver. Just a thought...

In most cases this is right but doesn't necessarily need to happen. Look at the g2x..... They will most likely never get ics from lg and cm arcee compiled a just about stable ics rom that is beautiful and works great. And thats with tegra being closed source to so drivers had to be a pain also. So we could see nightlys soon who knows we have no clue they could come out this week for all we know
I am sitting with a Skyrocket CM7 rom that isn't quite finished and isn't ever going to be finished just because I can't stand anything but...

Yeah, I doubt that CM7 will ever be released in more than alpha. The CM team decided to go straight to CM9 with this device which means they will not do CM7 and it doesnt seem like anyone outside of CM team would bother since nobody has up til now and I am pretty sure the chances of a proper CM7 build will only go down when CM9 is released. All you can do is hold tight.
Ya this was pretty cruel. Thought it was gonna say it was up and running ugh.

Sent from my A100 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-4
I myself have also been enjoying using flexreaper with a modified acer ring that can be found in the roms thread that I modified.
Quick question about that ring, if I want to use it, I juss have to install ur file right? I don't have to reflash do I?
Sent from my A100 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-4
I manually replaced the stock ring with the modded one not as easy to do but I haven't gotten down making flashable zips yet.
Check my sig..... That's the rom I'm on.
Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but why would you want to install an a500 ROM on an a100 device? I've seen quite a few threads on this in a few forums. Simply wondering.

I honestly can't wait till someone tries to flash a ROM from the a500 and use the kernel (boot.img) for the a100 and find their device bricked. Just wait for ROMS to be made specifically for the a100. Right now the dev forum here is a joke. And not because of the lack of ROMS but because out of the 3 custom ROM's we have 2 of them are just a500 ROM's with a replaced boot img and build prop it seems, and no credit was given to the original devs who actually did the work in the a500 forums

I agree with what you say about giving credit. If they use something that was developed by others they need to not only ask for permission, but also state where their "source" has come from in the OP. They should give their "Mod" a version and they should provide MD5's for the file.
This said the "Rom's" you speak of while technically not being "developed", still fall under the above rules. Whether they belong in the Development Section or the General Section I don't really know. They DO however provide a benefit in that they save the end user from taking additional steps and doing the various flashes on their own. Kind of like a one-click.
True developed ROM's will eventually come but I can't agree with your first sentence. I would NEVER wish someone to brick their Tablet.

Well as long as they make a nandroid backup using CWM they shouldn't ever go through a permanent brick. If they don't make that...then I don't know what to tell them. lol.

How come it is such a big deal to you that people are using a500 roms? I really do not know why this makes you so upset and to say you can't wait for someone to brick their device is not classy at all. I do not see anyway that could brick our device anyway. Asking people who love to tinker to be patient is very unlikely to happen. With that said, the first thing I noticed when I saw the aforementioned roms posted was there was no link to the source or credit given.

I think the only reason why we aren't bricking our tab when flashing a a500 rom with a a100 boot.img is because they share near identical cpu an gpu chipsets.

I was at Lifehacker the other day and there was a post about someones homescreen. Turns out the person was on a Galaxy S and running CM9. That just seems wrong to me.
Cyanogenmod seems to list the Galaxy SII without distinguishing between the models. I realize that the Hercules is different from other flavors of SGII.
Is Hercules the only odd model or are other SGII users left out in the cold?
What enables someone who has an Galaxy I to run CM9 and not us?
Thanks for walking me through it.

It all has to do with having proprietary drivers which for that source is needed. CM9 is based on ICS and since we don't yet have an official release of ICS for the T989 we don't have CM9

Thanks for the search tip; I've searched for CM9 in our threads but I still don't get it. What are we and cyanogen waiting for and who is responsible for producing it?
As I'm sure you know we have a skyrocket (T989) version of ICS out there but that isn't what we need. We need... an official release? These proprietary drivers have to come from T-Mobile? Thanks for being more specific.

XDA devs and Cyanogen are waiting for ICS to drop. Samsung and carriers are responsible for the hold up. Samsung could release source so devs could build a proper kernel and rom but carriers are obsessed with bloating OTA's,which is why we have to wait. Skyrocket's ICS is not from source rather a leak. From my understanding, its a leak precompiled rom that can be manipulated in ways but are limited in others (the details for that I am unsure).

Are you sure you didn't make a mistake? I don't doubt that you're a veteran flasher, but you definitely messed up this time. We only use d2 kernels here.
I only see it as available for the international model S3, which we already know not to flash. Lots of veterans have made the exact same mistake. Just reinforces that no matter how much you think you know, you still should always read the stickied threads. Doesn't matter how much experience you have, every device is different.

Even if you read it in one place, that is the kind of thing you confirm before flashing. There are lots of rumors and misinformation floating around.
I can tell you that ATT and T-Mobile kernels can be cross flashed but I wouldn't know about others.
