I know there is a "ROM" forum but that seems to be more about bugs/compatibility/how to. I thought i would start this to see what ur favorite rom is and any special tweaks you find make it better for our 7inch bundle of awesome.

I was wondering the same thing, flexreaper seems to b working very nice for me tho
Sent from my A100 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-4
I myself have also been enjoying using flexreaper with a modified acer ring that can be found in the roms thread that I modified.
Quick question about that ring, if I want to use it, I juss have to install ur file right? I don't have to reflash do I?
Sent from my A100 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-4
I manually replaced the stock ring with the modded one not as easy to do but I haven't gotten down making flashable zips yet.
Check my sig..... That's the rom I'm on.
Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but why would you want to install an a500 ROM on an a100 device? I've seen quite a few threads on this in a few forums. Simply wondering.

I honestly can't wait till someone tries to flash a ROM from the a500 and use the kernel (boot.img) for the a100 and find their device bricked. Just wait for ROMS to be made specifically for the a100. Right now the dev forum here is a joke. And not because of the lack of ROMS but because out of the 3 custom ROM's we have 2 of them are just a500 ROM's with a replaced boot img and build prop it seems, and no credit was given to the original devs who actually did the work in the a500 forums

I agree with what you say about giving credit. If they use something that was developed by others they need to not only ask for permission, but also state where their "source" has come from in the OP. They should give their "Mod" a version and they should provide MD5's for the file.
This said the "Rom's" you speak of while technically not being "developed", still fall under the above rules. Whether they belong in the Development Section or the General Section I don't really know. They DO however provide a benefit in that they save the end user from taking additional steps and doing the various flashes on their own. Kind of like a one-click.
True developed ROM's will eventually come but I can't agree with your first sentence. I would NEVER wish someone to brick their Tablet.

Well as long as they make a nandroid backup using CWM they shouldn't ever go through a permanent brick. If they don't make that...then I don't know what to tell them. lol.

How come it is such a big deal to you that people are using a500 roms? I really do not know why this makes you so upset and to say you can't wait for someone to brick their device is not classy at all. I do not see anyway that could brick our device anyway. Asking people who love to tinker to be patient is very unlikely to happen. With that said, the first thing I noticed when I saw the aforementioned roms posted was there was no link to the source or credit given.

I think the only reason why we aren't bricking our tab when flashing a a500 rom with a a100 boot.img is because they share near identical cpu an gpu chipsets.

I'd selfishly love to see which developers plan to get this phone.
Can wait till friday
I might be getting the Att version of the sgs2. Could the dev between the two devices be shared? They are nearly identical spec wise, with the exception of the radios. I'm curious to see what gets ported at launch from the SGS2
I doubt it. Cdma and gsm development vary a lot on some things.

I don't think we have to worry about root.
As far as I know, we just flash a recovery (ClockworkMod) via ODIN and then start flashing kernels and ROMs.

Just because we could flash a port of CWM on the E4GT doesnt mean it'll automatically have root.... We'll still have to find an exploit that will give us root access..... Then ROM development and so on would be able to start.... You can flash a custom ROM without having root but it would be pretty pointless.....

No, there is no exploit regarding this method of rooting. The only "exploit" that would need to be found was if the bootloader was locked, and, judging by the history of EVERY samsung phone, it won't be. so yes, it really is that simple.
flash CWM.
flash su.zip through CWM

If you are looking to flash a rom, there are some detailed instructions in the Dev forum. In particular the thread for the Starburst rom. The first post has all the downloads you will need and there are some more detailed instructions on one of the posts from October 10th or 11th. Your device will of course need to be rooted in order for this to work.

Porting from international version is going to be really difficult due to the different radio's in it, and you would never get WiMax to work if you tried, even if you got it to boot up
my reccomendation would be to try grabbing a rom you like from another CDMA/WiMax Samsung device and try it, except the only one would be the Epic 4G, and the slideout keyboard orientation might ruin some stuff when porting....... so at this point, unfortunately, i dont think porting a rom is in anyones future for a little while at least til we get an AOSP kernel
cheers!
Can we flash the CM9 nightly builds on the SGH-T989 that are posted in the SGH-I777 forums? When you go to the cyanogenmod website, the rom is classified under "galaxy s2," and I didn't see specifics. Anyone done this?

This is strictly my opinion, but I'd wait until someone releases a ROM with these minor things worked out. We've got a lot of great devs working on this phone and judging by what we've seen with the skyrocket leaks, it won't be long at all before we see a lot of stuff worth flashing. This one is marked as a base, so I'd wait for some things to be ironed out.

OK so here is my question, out of curiosity.. we have a system dump along with the leaked radio and kernel. Why does a dev need a base? Is the system dump and kernel not enough to make a base from? Jw?

Hello everyone I recently bought this touch off of craigslist and am utterly confused on the root process, flashing roms, etc...... First off it was already rooted and using CWM recovery. I found this out after I figured out how to boot into recovery on my new to me phone lol. With the Evo there were some growing pains but I figured it out pretty fast and was flashing like crazy in a couple of days. It's seems this phone is a whole new beast. Im living it so far but I need to know exactly what im up against since I see the phrase "brick your phone way too much already". I've read some threads already but can't quite wrap my mind around it yet so im reaching out, and yes I plan to do a while lot of reading just like I did with the OG Evo. That's not an option right now since my lil sister has been in the ICU in the hospital and I've been spending every waking hour there. Anyway I would just like to know where I stand with the room that is presently on the phone already and what I can do if I wanted to flash something else. Anyway thx for any help given and to those who will surely tell me to read, read, read I will, will, will lol.

Whoops, accidentally hit the thanks button
Anyway it was most likely originally rooted using the EL29 one click found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101
This just installed stock firmware (gingerbread build) on the phone that was rooted. From there he probably upgraded to ics using the recovery built in with the EL26 kernel. Most recoveries are safe to use now, just make sure you thoroughly read the OP.
There was also an exploit through which it could have been rooted, but that was patched long ago.

Look in the android development section. It appears you have the Universe rom from several versions back. I would recommend starting off stock rooted for learning purposes. We have a 1 click method for this and you can learn more from the development section and the qbking videos. FI27 is the most recent build number. I have not tried it yet. Last build I ran was FI03.
After you flash a stock rooted rom you will need to flash a kernel. I always used agats kernel and consider it safe. Good luck and read, read, read before you jump into anything.

Thx for all the help I have since flashed Agat recovery with stock FH13 rom and Universe 2.3 and am now on the way to fully exploring my phone.
Sounds like you are on the right track. I dont think I ever tried Universe rom. I have mostly been on Aosp based roms the past few months.
Universe rom is neat. I would suggest checking out blazer, calkulins or re-calk, and blu kuban. Those have been some of my favorites.

If you plan on checking out Kuban,I recommend the link in my sig. The flash procedure also works for many other roms, but until you are really comfortable I would always follow the op directions in whatever ROM you choose to flash. You picked a good phone with a great community. Lots of very helpful people here, even though we lost quite a few to the s3.
I have an OG EVO and my wife has the E4GT. I rooted it yesterday afternoon in about 15 minutes' time. Definitely not the same as rooting the EVO. While it's different, I think it swayed me towards going with the SGS III when my upgrade comes up next month. Looking forward to playing with the E4GT some more-if the wife lets me

While it's different, I think it swayed me towards going with the SGS III when my upgrade comes up next month. Looking forward to playing with the E4GT some more-if the wife lets me

I hear you, I never even played with an E4GT before I bought it I just saw how great the S3 looked and felt in the sprint store and loved it. Since I refuse to sign a new 2 year contract I always stay at least a model behind and just go to craigslist.
htc phones and samsung are quite different i had an evo and it takes me twice as long to root it compared to samsung. but samsung seems easier to brick.
