Has anyone else had trouble accessing Google Talk over 3G? If I don't use WiFi, it constantly tells me "unable to access server." If I do turn on WiFi, and then shut it off, GTalk shows everything grayed out. If I don't sign in to GTalk, I can't use the market. What's going on here? I was able to use GTalk on 3G *once* today. Not anymore.
My googletalk hasn't been able to sign in for the past 2 days.
It will randomly not be able to connect but then later connect for a few minutes and sign out.
I'm connected to wifi and its working now however.
posted from a EPIC4G.
Just had this problem on my girlfriend's Epic. It has to do with the Market, they're linked to your account and you can't have on without the other (from experience). I tried rebooting, clearing market and gtalk cache and the new update that came out a few days ago but nothing seemed to work. I finally did a factory reset and everything worked like it should.

It's just plain stupid that this is necessary. Android is starting to really grate on my nerves lately.
Hmmm, my GTalk works when on wifi or 3G. Now when I change connections from one to the other it takes some time to reconnect sometimes. That I do notice.
Forgive My Brevity. To Be Or Not To Be...
I had to hard-reset the damn thing. Adding Google accounts was giving me the stupid "Could not establish a reliable connection to the server" bullcrap. Of course, everything works *wonderfully* now (minus GPS, of course), and the phone is nice and fast again. What is this, Windows Mobile?!
Edit: GAH! It's happening again! "Could not connect to server. Will retry shortly" when on 3G! WTF, Google. I just wasted 2 hours reinstalling apps after a hard reset just to get this crap all over again.
So is this for sure a problem on googles side?? Cuz only few people seem to confirm this issue. I'm still within my 30 days, so I can exchange my phone if its a specific phone related problem..
I don't know. Some rocket surgeon over at Google decided that it was best to allow multiple Google accounts on the phone and sync everything, but not let you change Gtalk accounts. Their response to the bug? They try to throw the Gtalk team under the bus and close the bug report.
Okay, and now it's working again. I moved around to another Sprint tower and everything worked again. This actually happened yesterday. Now I'm back to my original location where the bug showed itself the first time, and things still seem to be working. I'm going to avoid reboots for now...
I am having the same problem

I am also having the same problem with my Galaxy S2. Has anyone resolve this without resetting it to factory setting?
Anyone having data issues? My data either doesnt work today or is EXTREMELY slow to respond. Wondering if its sprint or my phone.
Hey I had the exact same issue yesterday. Data would not work for nothing, but I just restarted my phone and it started to work
Sent from my GirLie Evo with Tapatalk
Yeah Ive restarted, installed a new rom, went to a backup. Nothings working right. Also all free apps that Ive uninstalled are staying in my downloads tab. Seems everything started after the 3.30 update.
I'm having an issue with all Google sites on my phone...on 3G and on 4G. I'm in the Chicago area. It was working ok for a bit early this morning, but seems to be completely down now.
Other sites work perfectly fine and as expected.
Same issue here NE Indiana...guessing a network problem. Restarting didn't solve data being slow. I just turned off background sync so that it doesn't kill my battery waiting on data.
Data issues here!!! Chicago - This blows
Hmm, seems like its this region. Im in Detroit. Sprints seriously getting on my nerves with the constant data issues Im getting here.

Way better than AT&T in my experience where data doesn't work half the day in Chicago and VZW where data is stuck on 1XRTT inside my office IMO. Hopefully they clear this up ASAP.
I came in here to say I'm having problems with google.
Every other site works fine, just not google.
I installed a new ROM and I can't even connect to google. I'm just going to wait it out and hopefully it resolves itself.
Another Chicagoan with Data Problems
Glad to hear that I'm not alone with data issues in Chicago. The problems appear to be intermittent and only on Google related sites/apps such as the Market and Gtalk.
Hope these problems clear up soon.
Same with me in Indianapolis, IN with google with trying to use market.
i too have been experiencing the same problem. But with mine if my 3g is on, it has a hard time trying to sync anything under gmail. If 4g is on it do the contacts and calender with no gmail. sorry for so much detail i was testing it cuz of all the things you guys were saying.
At first i was thinking a remote wipe with any roms with the new 3.30 update on it... just a thought.

I thought it was 3.30 at first, did a nandroid backup and same problems arise.
I'm in Miami, anyone else from my area have problems?
I wonder if its just sprint or google? So for now I just turn of sync. I hope this gets resolved soon!
I think this is on Google's end. I flashed a new ROM this morning, and was able to update everything except for Google services and FB with no issues.
THIS IS STARTING TO SUCK BIG TIME!
I was having the same problem I changed roms, rebooted pulled battery etc. No avail. I was running cm6.1 and realized that I didn't know how to update the profile so I flashed a sense rom updated profile and bam all was good again. Hope this helps someone.
Flash your first backup that should be a sense rom or a sense rom and update the prl and profile then flash back to the rom of you choice that you are using.
I am testing this right now myself to see if this solves the issue. I will report back as soon as my cm6 nightly is done flashing back.
That did not do it for me. I have the sync symbol on my top bar stuck there... I think I am going to diable sync till later on and hope google works it out.
Any one else?
I'm running Myn's stock rooted 3.29 Rom. The reason I see that the sync symbol stuck is because contacts, gmail, or calendar seem to be trying to update.
I tried calling sprint to see if there was an outage, but of course, they suggested a factory reset. Umm, no thank you.
This seems to be an intermittent Sprint network problem, because it works for a minute or two, then goes back to not working.
Does anyone who is NOT rooted have this same problem?
I just called the bastards at sprint and as always they want you to wipe the damn phone and start over. That must be the fix all for them. Screw what the customers have setup on their phone it doesn't matter let them just do it all again.
Waiting for contract to be up so I can switch to big red and get a Droid X.
i have searched every possible threads and browsed Google for hours to find for a solution. but i couldn't find any. i have a stable WiFi connection, yet, my whatsapp messages are delayed.( they are not delayed if i am using mobile data). if i send a msg now it takes forever to send it.moreover if someone send me a messsage , i receive it lately, probable 3,4 messages together. i have also noticed that my WiFi do not stay active when i use whatsapp.probably this is the reason my messages do not get sent instantly. the two small arrows in the WiFi bars disappears.which means data are not being sent or received.i have to open the play store or browse the internet to make the connection active. why is it that when i use whatsapp the WiFi connection becomes inactive but when i browse,WiFi is healthy? is there any way that i can force WiFi to stay active and connected when i am using whatsapp?or is it possible to increase the priority of whatsapp to use the max WiFi strength just like browsers and play-store? i really can don't care about battery if i can use whatsapp properly.is there any modded whatsapp apk which can force max wifi to stay active etc etc... i am really frustrated. any help is highly appreciated.
p.s: i have changed kernels, from Franco to trinity than Franco again, unchecked "avoid poor WiFi connections", set WiFi sleep policy to "never"
Sounds more like a problem with your WIFI router then the phone itself. Have you tried to reboot your router?
WIFI High performance widget might help you to keep the WIFI alive when screen off.

Did you tweak the Wifi parameters with your custom kernels (low latency mode)? Have you tried flashing back stock kernel to see if that fixes the issue?
not yet. but my question is if the wifi network was the problem then my brothers htc one x running ics and galaxy tab running gingerbread should also face this problem in whatsapp, ryt? but they dont.is it the rom i am using?do u think getting back to stock might help? any recommendations? i love xenon
I know exactly what you're talking about because I experience it as well. It doesn't matter what ROM, (stock, CM10, PA etc) kernel, (stock, Franco, Trinity etc) or what WiFi network I'm on (work, home, coffee shop etc) but whenever I'm on WiFi my messages in WhatsApp are delayed when the application isn't open. I've basically concluded it's the app itself that has a problem with WiFi. I have no fix, I just keep hoping that the next update will fix it.
The developer website isn't very helpful either. Basically suggesting not to use WiFi if the other fixes they suggest don't work.

No idea unfortunately
I know it was running fine for me on ICS, but I noticed it changed after JB. I run the version of WhatsApp offered directly from the website which I think is different from the Play Store, so I don't know if it was a version change, or something specific to JB.
If I know I'm going to be using WhatsApp I stay off WiFi. Not ideal, but it's the only thing I've done that's "fixed" it.

If you always had this problem since the day you bought the phone and on stock (not sure if you flashed a custom ROM right on the first day you owned it), probably not. But if whatsapp worked fine before and the problem was introduced after flashing a custom ROM/kernel, I'd say returning to stock will probably fix it.

I've used Whatsapp for a very long time, previously on an HTC Desire S and now on my GNex GSM and never had issues.... I'm on stock JB rom but I've tried several others with diff kernels and no probs whatsoever. Until today. Faced the exact same prob as the OP described (whatsapp msg's go thru or come very late on wifi but do so fine on 2G/EDGE - however everything else works just fine re gtalk msg's/browsing etc and whatsapp works fine too on my brother's SGS3 on wifi).
Was going nuts googling about it when my brother informed me that he'd changed the home ISP and now our wifi router was pumping out access from a new ISP's modem. So I tried switching back to the old ISP to test (swapped the cable modem that connects to our wifi router) and whatsapp works fine again. Then my brother switched back to the new ISP's modem and same problem for me on whatsapp! So we factory reset the router after upgrading it's software to latest from the manufacturers website and now, finally, whatsapp works fine for me on both ISP's modems.
Maybe you can try messing with your router (factory reset or look thru its settings or try another ISP input just to test?), maybe it will help. It's a strange issue though. (FWIW my router's a cheap one by TENDA and my phones wifi sleep policy is set to always on).

I knew it was something with the router
Swype'ed on my CM10 Galaxy Nexus
Stock T-mobile S6 Edge, AOCG. I have disabled I think 21 bloatware apps. I'm also leaving WiFi off full-time right now because of the cell standby bug.
However, in addition to the cell standby bug and, perhaps the real reason I refuse to turn WiFi back on at all, is that my phone fails to receive any push notifications while connected to a WiFi network.
I'll leave my phone on the table for a while, come back, hit the home button, and a flood of notifications will pop up (I use groupme a lot so in extreme cases my phone will buzz and make noise for about 30 seconds to catch up with ~50 missed notifications).
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any ideas at fixing it?
I haven't rooted or played with the recovery yet. I've been on the sidelines waiting for an official TWRP build and a debloated custom ROM.
Just a quick bump here...
I have since rooted and installed the 5.1.1 ROM available in the T-mobile S6 Edge Android Development Forum.
I still don't get push notifications while on WiFi. My girlfriend's phone (stock AT&T moto x 5.0) is on the same network and gets push notifications just fine, so I know it's not a problem with my router's TCP heartbeat settings (or maybe I should say I don't think that is the problem).
This is super annoying and frankly just baffling. If anyone has any insight into this issue or any steps I might be able to take to try and troubleshoot it further I'd really appreciate it.
I'll bump again. I have this issue on my home network, but when I connect to another network, I'm able to receive notifications fine. So in my case, it may be some sort of router setting that my phone doesn't like. I'll keep digging around.
I called T-mobile with this issue and they are sending me a new Edge and one of their Asus built routers. Both are on their way to me now, I will update with my findings.
I should also note that I have since done a full and complete wipe of my phone and ODINed back to fully stock. It seemed like it fixed the issue at first, but now it's back to the same behavior: phone sitting quietly on the table at home connected to WiFi, hit the home button, flood of buzzes and noises for 10-15 seconds while it registers all the notifications that have been pushed since it went screen off.

I have the same issue with mine.
Its a crap shoot. Sometimes it will work fine and sometimes it wont.
I turn the screen on and the flood of notifications come in.
If you dig around the web this problem is happening to a bunch of people with the S6.
Keep us updated.
How did you get the T-Mobile Asus router? A friend was telling me about that over the weekend and I'm definitely interested, since I read another thread (for a Note Edge and Note 4 that had the same issue) and they claimed that older routers had issues with GCM/Samsung push notifications.
Strange enough, last night I was receiving them fine, even during deep sleep, so it seems like a really random, sporadic issue. Still utterly annoying, however.
Yup, it's hit or miss for me on WiFi.
As for the router, they pushed it pretty hard from the start of my service call. They claim it's totally free, I will report any deposits or hidden fees that I encounter once I get my next bill.
As for why T-mobile wants to give us free routers, this Engadget article should answer your questions:
http://www.engadget.com/2014/09/11/t-mobile-personal-cellspot/
I am thinking more and more it has something to do with Samsung software and lollipop.
I have the S6 Edge and the Note Edge and a Nexus 9..... Note Edge was working perfectly until yesterday when updated it to lollipop now its having the same problem as the S6 not as bad but still misses at times.
I have all 3 devices side by side connected to the same router, the Nexus 9 doesn't miss a beat notifications are instant while the screen is off. The S6 i have to turn the screen on to get them and the Note Edge is hit or miss.
New edge got here today. So far it's a champ with WiFi notifications while the screen is off.
Although I fully expect the new phone to promptly resume the odd behavior now that I've made this post.
Haven't received the T-mobile router yet, still using the same one as before.

I did a full reset yesterday and the phone worked perfectly for half the day and then started acting up again at night.
I just spoke to T-mobile, they are also sending me the Tmo asus router, but before they replace the phone they want me to try keeping it on wifi calling for an entire day to see what happens. I dont know what that will do but we will see.
I am curious about this t-mobile router what thats going to do. I already have a top notch router and anywhere in my house i am getting over 24mbps download speeds. SO i dont even know if i am going to use it. I have read that they are giving these things out like bread to promote them.
who knows
Well, it was working great... until it wasn't. Called T-Mobile again and they're sending the report to Samsung. I urge anyone else having this issue to call T-Mobile so that they can continue to push (pun!) the issue with Samsung.

I can say, however, that the Asus built router is really great. Over 200Mbps download speeds over 802.11ac 5GHz
Just a quick note, after ONE HOUR AND FIFTEEN MINUTES on the phone (finally got pushed to samsung tech support after tmobile confirmed it was a manufacturer issue), I ended up hanging up with the issue unresolved.
Samsung had me download an app that allowed the tech to remote in to my phone to try and diagnose the problem.
I was able to recreate the issue by leaving the call live, locking the screen, sending myself an email from a different account, waiting five minutes, and then hitting the home button. Lo and behold, the notification popped up after the phone had been awake for 3-5 seconds, clearly demonstrating the issue. She then says, I'm glad we have resolved the issue, you see the notification on your lock screen. Uhhhhh, have you been listening at all? It didn't register until I woke the phone... you just saw it! Incompetence.
The tech then relentlessly went through each app's notification settings to make triple sure I didn't turn off notifications by accident. Not the issue. Then she asked if it was only with downloaded applications... yes, those are the only applications I use? Not using the garbage built-in email client and I can't think of any other pre-installed app that would get push notifications on the reg.
Anyway, she then says, oh well if its only downloaded apps you'll need to get in contact with the app developers for each app. What? how could? what?
Worthless.
For the record, tmobile was great... the tech was very knowledgeable and helpful. Samsung... worthless. Couldn't understand the issue (I think there was a language barrier to some extent) and then after she suggested I contact each app dev, I hung up. Might try again tomorrow, maybe get a different tech.
Still, no solution!
Thanks for the update.
I am waiting on the ASUS modem but I know that wont do anything. Since your new phone is doing the same thing i guess I am not going to ask for a new phone since it wont matter.
This problem is occurring on Verizon models as well if you do a google search.
I really think its a software problem with Samsung and lollipop. MY Note Edge was perfect before Lollipop now its acting exactly like the S6. My Nexus 9 is perfect and doesnt skip a beat.
Maybe the issue will be fixed with 5.1.1

Let's hope! It's quite frustrating but I will hold out hope.
I have exactly the same problem.
When the screen is off and the phone is connected in a WiFi network, I stop receiving push notifications after a while.
I do not receive notifications from GMAIL, E-mail app, WhatsApp, etc.
Then, when I turn the screen on, everything is received.
I have a Brazilian S6 Edge with Stock ROM.
I have tried everything: Wipe cache, factory reset, etc. Nothing has helped... :crying:
---------- Post added at 03:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:28 PM ----------
Guys, I think I solved my problem, at least temporarily.
I realized that I had enabled in my router DHCP with IPV6 and the Edge was using it.
When I entirely disable the IPV6 in my router and restarted it, I let the screen off for almost 30 min. and I still receive notifications from WhatsAPP, Facebook, and Gmail. Thus, I really think it must be the lollipop problem with IPV6 that people are reporting.
Maybe you should try this.
I have Comcast and unfortunately they wont let you disable the IPV6.
I am getting my T-mo Asus router today, I am going to hook that up and disconnect the IPV6. I will report back what I find.
I think the IPv6 fix has solved it for me.
I am hesitant to say for sure because of so many moving pieces and the hit-or-miss nature of the issue, but ever since I turned off IPv6 on my T-mobile Asus router, I have had perfect WiFi push notification behavior (... I think).
You are not alone check this out, me specifically, this happens when im using wireless charging and the phone sits.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/help/push-notifications-stop-screen-off-t3071248
Well I have been going a full day now on the T-mo Asus router with IPV6 TURNED OFF, and the notifications have been instant.
It does seem that IPV6 is the culprit.
On a side note, I can not believe how fast the Asus router is. I have a 3,000 sq foot house and I am getting over 90mbps download speeds all over the house.
Very very impressive.
If anyone has Comcast you MUST get your own router. Put the Comcast router in bridge mode and use your own router. Its night and day
How you guys encountered this? I have really great 5Ghz Wifi at home, which gives me about 97Mbs in, 10Mbs out. It works really great when loading pages, watching stuff online etc. Only thing that doesn't seem to work right is getting online messages through. My G3 is D855, with stock Lollipop 5.0 update 20t.
What I mean by that is for example Whatsapp. When someone sends me an message, it can take from instant to 1 hour to reach me. Same with Gmail, Snapchat etc. On 4G connection, messages come in always an instant.
I've performed a factory reset on the G3, but that didn't help. I've also checked that my wifi router does not have any closed ports.
What can I do?
