Damn I was hungry for some ICS! lol
I just download the new CM9 and put it on my internal sd card. Okay, used chris's stock el26 kernel(flashed zip in cwm then rebooted recovery) but when I go to flash the CM9 zip in cwm, I get a bunch of nonsense.
"getprop("ro.product.device") == "GT-I9100T" || this is repeated over and over, then it says error in [folder where i put the ROM zip]
I have flashed ICS before, in fact i have flashed Blend ICS and Calk ICS just to test this issue with no problems right now. I also tried AOKP and it also failed
I'm out of ideas here. Please help.

Yes, I have. It has worked before so that's why it seems strange.
If all else fails, I guess I will just have to go with a completely stock wipe(sfhub) then
I think that would be the best suggestion actuall, let me know if that works maybe i might try it I'm running fc24 and was thinking about doing cm9 by installing el26 tar then running that
It could've been a bad download; use an md5 checker.
What I do is use sfhub's el29 one click package, then use his autoroot package to flash el26 cwm. Set up GPS test and get a lock, then reboot into recovery, follow the directions, and I flash the rom twice.
By using sfhub's solutions, you avoid getting the yellow triangle and adding to the download count.
Sound like a plan

do a double flash. sometimes the first flash doesn't go thru.
Install guide says to wipe data/ cache then flash cm9 from el26. I would redownload and md5 check also. Might try coming from cm7 or miui also as there recovery works for cm9

Why does everything say to use the el26 cwm? Is there something wrong with the el29 cwm or am I missing something?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
You must flash from EL26, locate StockCWM-EL26.tar and odin that. Then reboot to recovery. Flash update*.zip and gapps*.zip after wiping cache and data.

I keep a copy of LoSTkernel on my sd for the recovery, it's EL29 and I just tried this with that and got the same results. Came, read, and came to the conclusion EL26 is the most stable for flashing ICS.

Glad you got it working, also after you flash your last step should of been to wipe data/factory reset. This will ensure a clean start and possible removal of all potential bugs...

ok, so I rooted my epic 4g touch (EL29) and installed CWM(rogue), then I flashed Calkulin's 2.8.1 ROM and everything went smooth. I tried updating to 2.9 and 2.9.1 and I got "installation aborted" for some reason. I did wipe cache and dalvik-cache and still got "installation aborted". I tried flashing the gunslinger kernel v1.4.1, nothing but honey theme and got the same result "installation aborted", basically if I try flashing anything I get "installation aborted". sorry for the novel, but trying to put out as much detail as possible.. can someone help with this issue? BTW I restored back to EL29 and rooted again and still same issue.. No issues with flashing Calkulin's 2.8.1 though which is what I'm currently on right now... thanks in advance!!

radio firmware and CID wouldn't be relevant for this phone.
check /cache/recovery/last_log to see if it provides insight into what is failing.
Could it be a problem with the external SD card?, or have you been flashing from internal storage?
That's a good question. Are you flashing 2.8.1 from internal, and the other from external?

I know this may sound basic, but I like to cover everything.... How are you getting into recovery while on 2.8.1.
From the power menu right? NOT through rom manager....
Are you seeing a rogue recovery, or a basic cwm recovery? (do you see the big rogue icon while in recovery?)

Ok, read through this thread a little. Here's what you SHOULD do.
1) Download the ZIPPED rom to your pc (to ensure its a good download file, It still looks like the zip is bad from your pic)).
2) Put the ZIPPED rom on your INTERNAL card NOT EXTERNAL (I don't care if it worked before its not now)
3) Boot into CWM.
4) In this ORDER perform a wipe Cache, and Dalvik-cache. Now in Mounts and Storage perform format/system. Now wipe data (factory reset). You can also perform Calks wipe all zip if you want after this too but it's not needed.
5) Select "install zip from file" and navigate to and select the zip.
6) When it finishes flashing, go back and select "reboot system now". The first boot will take a couple minutes. Subsequent boots will be much faster.
If it still hangs you need to odin a kernel with cwm or reodin a full rooted rom with cwm (your choice).
If the the rom DOES boot, reformat your SD CARD (or do that first and see if your really need all theses other steps...)
IF YOU DO THESE STEPS CORRECTLY IT WILL HELP US HELP YOU

OK, could you let all the new people know what fixed your issue? It could help someone else...
I had a few questions on how to do this. I eventually figured it out and since I didn't see an exact "Guide" on how to do this besides a few posts from the CM9 Discussion thread I decided to post the steps I did here.
Hope this helps somebody!
WARNING: FOLLOWING THIS GUIDE WILL CAUSE YOU TO LOSE YOUR DATA (SDCARD will be fine though).
These are the exact steps I did.
1- Auto Restore Using ODIN via sfhub's TAR file to EL29; here (I used the SPH-D710.EL29_CL852097_ROOTED-oc-sfx.exe)
2- To install CWM, I used the Auto Root package (Option C) then (Option L); here
3- I then downloaded CM7 and GAPPS here and placed them on my microSD card
4- Booted into recovery and wiped data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, and go back to "Mounts and Storage" and clicked on format /system. I then flashed CM7 and GAPPS (Directions on how to flash here here)
5- Go back to the main menu of recovery and reboot system
6- I verified I was able to boot into CM7 without any issues (Wait until it completely loads and did another reboot).
(Optional) I went back into recovery and made a backup
7- I then downloaded the CM9 zip file and GAPPS file (Download here scroll down for Alpha4 and GApps v7.1) and placed both of these on the microSD card
8-I then booted into recovery and flashed the CM9 zip file, flashed GApps v7.1 file, and wiped data/factory reset; (how to video here)
9- Reboot system
10- Enjoy CM9!
(Optional) You won't have a custom recovery after you flash CM9. If you want a custom recovery, I recommend you use this one here. I flashed it through Mobile ODIN and had no problems. I used the "Rogue Stock FB21 rev2 (Odin Tar)". Read this post if you want to flash through regular Odin here

Honestly I'm not sure. I've seen several posts of people having issues when trying to go from any of the leaked ICS ROMs to CM9 (Some of them semi-bricking their devices). This is apparently the safest way to do it.

You can but you keep hearing people saying "iz brickz my fone" all the time because they tried to install CM9 with a kernal or rom that doesnt play very nice. So this is in a way the safest way to do it if you dont want to have any trouble. Ive been doing it like this since thats what someone posted on the cm9 thread when it first came out.
Edit: lo0l you beat me to the reply

At the moment thats the only kernal you can use with it. no other AOSP kernal out there that is available to download. Atleast this is from what i understand. First time rooting phones after i got this phone. Still getting the hang of all this.

I was on the leaked ICS ROM and want to go back to a different ROM. My phone is kinda soft bricked now. I downloaded the EL29 auto restore and it's running now but it's stuck at the last percentage (data.img) part.
It's been sitting here for 30+ minutes and last night I let it sit for about 1.5 hours.
My phone won't boot up but I can get into download mode but it won't auto restore to the EL29. I don't know what I'm missing. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I follow instructions well, but I am clearly a rookie. My apologies if this is in the wrong section or if this has been covered 1,000 times!
Yes, just mobile odin el26 with cwm. When the screen goes off hold power+volume up to boot into recovery, then wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvick, flash rom and reboot. Since it is AOKP based you need to use only el26 with cwm or you'll risk a brick.

Yes. I use internal sd, but mobile odin will find it on either. The safest way to flash to and from ICS is with el26 with official cwm. Everything since el26 including el29 have rogue repacks. The rogue repacks do work, but you run a risk of bricking. Better to be safe than to have bricked phone. Just remember ICS won't boot with el26, so you have to boot into recovery as soon as it starts to reboot. Wipe data/factory reset, wipe both cache and dalvick cache, flash ROM and reboot.
Here is direct link yo el26 with cwm: http://db.tt/0QJkleJR

Just use the same instructions on how you got on slim in the first place. It is the only way to flash a AOKP based rom. The ONLY thing you may do when you update from slim to a newer slim is the wipes. A clean install is best, bit no data wiping has worked also.
All in all listen to killaphatboy, he knows what he is talking about, been running our rooms long enough.
Thanks for the help guys!
I am watching a qbking77 "how to" video on flashing the EL26 tar and he mentions you have to be on a Gingerbread rom before you flash to EL26... Does this pertain to m situation since I am just updating to a newer version of of the same rom?
I understand that the update process is the same as the install, but going back to EL29 and reinstalling CWM, just to flash EL26 makes me think that I am performing some unnecessary steps.

You don't need to go back to anything. All you need to do is Odin the EL26 kernel and when it starts to reboot, push and hold power and volume up, that will put you right into recovery without booting into the rom. qbking77 is talking about booting into the from, which you do not need to do. Just push power+ volume up after your blue light flashes and before the splash screen ends.
I have combed through the entire thread (☼[ROM] Frankenstein's Ego 4.5 (FE16 ICS)(S Voice Patch)☼ 5/21/2012) and i did NOT find my answer, in fact, i saw two posts discussing something similar, but it didn't seem to help my situation at all.
Anywho. I am LOVING this ROM, but I seem to have lost CWM? I rooted, flashed CWM, then i bought Mobile Odin to flash the EL26_StockCWM Kernel, did that successfully. I then watched QBKing77's video to install Ego (PS - i watch his videos EVERY TIME i'm doing something to my phone, they are AMAZING.) And ta da! I'm running the rom
But then I wanted to put the Rapps on and the S_Voice_Patch_v4, and I couldn't find anywhere in that thread on WHEN i'm supposed to do this (yes, as i said, i combed through the thread) so I thought, well let's flash through CWM. But I don't HAVE CWM anymore. Now I have Android system recovery? When I try to install zip from there, it errors out because of signatures. So what should I do? Should I flash back the EL26 Stock Kernel, flash the two patches, and then flash the FE16 kernel?
I'm so lost, please be kind!
I'm pretty syre I put this in the thread before but no worries we're here to help.
1. ODIN/mobile ODIN el26 w/CWM
2. Flash ROM in CWM
3. Flash Rapps
4. Flash S-voice Patch
5. Reboot and enjoy
All you have to do now though since you flashed the ROM is:
1. DL the FE16 + Kernel (Or whatever kernel you prefer)
2. ODIN/mobil ODIN el26 CWM
3. Flash Rapps
4. Flash s-voice patch
5. Flash kernel
6. Reboot and enjoy
You will always lose CWM on all ICS Kernels as I do not know of any that contain CWM. I know there is an ACS kernel out there with there recovery but that's it, no CWM. I hope this helps

Yea, you have to re-flash EL26 kernel then flash what you want then reflash the FE16 or 20 kernel and then reboot
CWM won't work most proper till we have kernel source

I'm pretty syre I put this in the thread before but no worries we're here to help.
1. ODIN/mobile ODIN el26 w/CWM
2. Flash ROM in CWM
3. Flash Rapps
4. Flash S-voice Patch
5. Reboot and enjoy
All you have to do now though since you flashed the ROM is:
1. DL the FE16 + Kernel (Or whatever kernel you prefer)
2. ODIN/mobil ODIN el26 CWM
3. Flash Rapps
4. Flash s-voice patch
5. Flash kernel
6. Reboot and enjoy

Thank you guys so much for replying so quickly! I kind of thought that's what I might have to do, but i didn't wanna go around flashing kernels without knowing for sure that's what i was supposed to do. I really appreciate your help!!!!

Just don't shoot yer eye out and you'll b good
ok one more question - the repacked kernel on the Frankenstein post is a .zip file, so Mobile Odin doesn't pull it. Is there something I should do with that file or should I just pull a kernel from this thread? [KERNELS][CWM][ODIN] Kernel Repository - Download Them All Here
And if so, which one?

the FE16 repack zip?
Flash that after you patch up everything in CWM then reboot don't worry about unzipping it
Okay, so I tried to Mobile Odin the EL26 Stock CWM and it said it flashed, but then it didn't reboot. I was going through the Odin thread where someone else had this problem, so they force stopped the app and rebooted manually, and it worked. Well, i did that, and now I'm stuck on the Samsung Galaxy boot up screen. I pulled the battery, and put it into recovery mode, and there was CWM, but it wouldn't install the files (said they were bad). tried to restart the phone again, and back to the Samsung Galaxy screen.
Did i f*** it all up?!

your probably either going to have to odin from pc, or redownload the rom/kernel files to your sd card and flash from sd thru cwm if it says the files are bad. What is the exact error cwm is giving you? as long as you make sure you are using el26 cwm to flash ics roms you will be fine and wont brick.

Well I'm already on the ICS rom. i was trying to load the patches (S Voice and Rapps). it says:
E:Can't open /sdcard/Rapps_RemovedAppsV4.zip (bad)
But the other issue is that my phone is stuck in the bootloop of the Samsung Galaxy screen. So even tho I'm on CWM right now, nothing else is working.
Sounds like bad downloads of the files getting that error in CWM. For some reason FE16 does not reboot when Mobile odin is run so for future reference just flash it and manually reboot into CWM. If both of you have CWM you are still good, just flash the FE16 Kernel and should boot back to ROM and you can retry after redownloading the files. If you cannot get to CWM you might have to PC Odin. Sorry this didn't work for you guys. hopefully we can get you up and running.

Okay PHEW! I flashed the FE16 Kernel and it booted back up, so I'm gonna do what you suggested and re-download the files and whatnot.
(PS - i'm the same user as the OP, i just added a pic, sorry for the confusion LOL)
yeah I realized that after i posted, haha.
WOOOOOO! Okay, I'm good! Thank you everyone! I've got the patches, the FE16 and i'm flying through this rom!
I love when people help people, thanks guys

heres anorher way to do it. extract the zimage inside the zip of the kernel. now use mobile odin to flash rhe zimage and all is well. i recommend calkulins fe22 kernel becuzz it has rogue recovery which basically is cwm recovery

hello all, have a small question, right after i rooted, using odin. ( im on a boost Galaxy SII) i flashed this kernel "41g-VolDbg4-1109" and then the "vanilla rootbox rom" followed its directions. well it was actin a little buggy, so i decided to try a few other roms. flashed the amazing unicorn rom, went just fine., same bugs so i tryed "jelly bam" i think i was flashin the EL26 kernel betweeen all of em. expet for the rootbox rom. well wen i tryed EL26 and then jellybam, it gave me about a paragraph of errors and said "install aborted at the end", tryed to flash the rootbox rom again, same thing. so I flashed the "41g-VolDbg4-1109" zip kernel, rebooted recovery, and flashed rootbox just fine. What was a i doing wrong? it seems like most roms say to use EL26? it was the stock with CW5 in it. Should i just use the 41g kernel i stated above from now on? unless im downgrading or goin back to stock? any help greatly appreciated.

I have flashed vanilla rootbox using EL26 repacked w/ CWM with no issues. Maybe the kernel download is bad. Also don't use wipe all scripts especially the one that wipe the system partition.

ok, it was jellybelly that gave me the error. everything ells flashes fine. Should i only use the repacked kernels? i was usin just the stock with cwm. i think. and i have always manually wiped system, should i leave it alone from now on? should i just do a factory reset when switching roms?
Use the Stock EL26 w/CWM http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.p...ernels/Recovery Kernels/GB/Chris41g/Stock CWM
And yes just a factory reset. Blues is right about not using the wipe scripts unless specifically called for by the developer.

ok, got it. thanks for the info, clears some things up. I always follow directions exactly, sometimes their just not very spacific. this all will help me alot, i have been reading for the past 2 days straight. thanks for helpin me. one last thing, i notice, if i flash EL26, then after flashing rootbox, it replaces the recovery with CWM6, is it ok to just stay in that if flashing another cm10.1 based rom or another rom that has the exact same directions as the last? or do i have to flash EL26 every time i flash a new rom that requires it?

i read somewhere that 4.2 roms have different partition settings and you have to use the one click kernel, not the zip or tar, for it to partition correctly, is this true?

No. Flashing a kernel doesn't repartition anything. It flashes kernel to kernel partition and that's about it.
