[Q] Help me root my xperia arc s i am stuck - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know there have been mutiple threads about this subject but they do not answer my questions with enough detail. Sorry for being a noob
Info about my phone
Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband version:8x55A-AAABQOAZM-203028D-64
Kernel version: [email protected]#1
Build number:4.0.2.A.0.62
Hi i am new here, i have little to no clue of how to root my phone, i havent modified it at all, all that info above is what my phone came like. I would like to root my phone the easiest/ safest way and then flash cynagen mod 7.
What is the easiest program to root my phone with? If you give me step by step instructions of how too root my phone with any program it would be greatly appreciated.

Lots of info here

Basically, if you want a custom rom you must unlock your bootloader.
Check http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ for your unlock code
After doing so, flash a custom kernel. I recommend DoomKernel for your stock rom. You will have root access upon flashing that kernel.

Try doomloard 1 click root kit..it's work for me akways...try it u r self...

u cant root a stock .62 firmware.. so first unlock ur bootloader change ur firmware n then try.. HERE'S something that u could try.. read the replies too..

I think easiest way would be:
downgrade to .42 with flashtool
obtaining root with your favorite software (flashtool, zergrush, single click or similar)
update to .62 via OTA update.

You have to downgrade to .42, and then use zerRush tool for make root.

and after the initial setup guide, my phone offered me to update it to 4.0.2.A.0.62.
And, I guess, if I want to root it, i shouldn't upgrade it?
i know, it's off topic, but, please help me, i bought it like two hours ago

Excatly. Keep the current version and root. .62 doesn't offer any significant advantages.
Hello. I also just got my Arc S, and updated it to .62, even before I thinked that I will maybe want to root it and uninstall blotware. So, can I downgrade to 58. or 42. and then root it? If, yes how can I do this?
Few more questions:
1.How can I check if I have locked or unlocket bootloader?
2.How to root ARC S with 58. or 42. firmware?
3.Can I unroot it after removing unnessesary apps?
Tnx for help, and sorry for bad English.
The simplest way to have root on .62 is while on .42(or if too late - downgrade to .42), root with flashtool, and update over the air. Root remains that way. Don't modify anything in system folder before the update, or it will fail.

2. With flashtool is the easiest way
3. Why should you do that?

I don't think so...
And where do I find .42 firmware for Arc S? And it should work in Slovenia.
Can you give instructions on how to downgrade via flashtools, and how to root after that?
Tnx
Here's the .42 for central europe, it should work in Slovenia.

Download and install flashtool - http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
Put the phone in debug mode, start the program, plug the phone, wait to detect, select flash - flashmode and follow the instructions. Then root with flashtool, after restart. There are many threads on how to use flashtool, search.
THX All ... Waiting 4 root 4 .62..
Hi, again. So I downgraded to .42, rooted with Flashtool and OTA updated to 62. and root remained. But now I have unlocked the bootloader by fastboot, and Superuser icon in still in the menu and if I conect the phone to Flashtool it says "root access alowed". So did root remained, at unlocking the bootloader, or should I root it again.
Sorry for silly questions, and sorry for bad English.

just try it.
if you can access superuser(give root permission to specific app eg. root explorer, no frills cpu, etc) then you are rooted.
if you've unlocked BL, do not confirm OTA upgrade anymore!

Hello!
I want to downgrade too from .62 to .42 but i cant find the appropriate firmware. I'm from Romania, could the above "central europe" firmware work for me too? If not, could someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

I have a question, I rooted my Xperia Arc S with OneSuperClick.
Will updating to the new firmware unroot it? You mentioned that if it was rooted using FlashTool it would not unroot... what about this other tool I mention?
Thanks for any help in advance.

(Q)bootloader and rooting

hi to every one i would like to ask before i unlock my bootloader and rooting stuff. im presently on stock rom right now with firmware 2.3.4 baseband ver. -64 and build number .62. i alredy browse threads and guides about this but unfortunately i was not able to find answer.
ok my question is this.
1. will it be possible for me to install custom rom if im just going to unlock my bootloader but not rooted?
2. there are topics about easy rooting on gen. discussion .i just like to ask,is it possible to disregard downgrading process from .62 to .42 if the bootloader is unlocked for the rooting process. since i dont want to downgrade.there has been issues of bricking the phone if your going to downgrade and update afterwards via ota.
3. can anyone give me updated guide for unlocking bootloader and rooting based on my current firmware.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, custom roms are usually (always?) prerooted, so it gives u root permissions. Bootloader is needed to flash custom kernel.

If the bootloader is unlocked ur phone gets bricked after update. However u can downgrade with locked bootloader, next root and than update. If u want lock bootloader use file attached (unpack rar archive and flash ftf using flashtool).
On the other hand u can install CWM and use RootXperia.zip (attached) to root.

Bootloader:
Unlocking
Root:
1. 2.3.3 - use SuperOneClick Method (maybe work with 2.3.4 i dont use it) or RootXperia.zip or custom Kernel/Rom
2. 2.3.4 - use RootXperia.zip or Custom Kernel/Rom

Easiest way to root Arc S (2.3.4 - 4.0.2.A.0.69)?

Sorry for the question, I really dont know what to do, there are many guides here, I want to find the easiest and safest. A friend asked me to root his Arc S, I now see its way different than on my samsung
First i need to unlock the bootloader and then to root? Can someone tell me the easiest way to do this? Tnx

YOU DON'T HAVE TO UNLOCK BOOTLOADER TO ROOT.
Download flashtools. Install on computer
Download ftf from general stickies( select. .42/.54) only these can be rooted
Drag and drop ftf into flashtools main screen
Put phone into flash mode(hold back key while plugging into usb port) flashtools will install Rom
Restart phone.
from settings select usb debugging( development) and unknown sources( security)
Download from doomlords thread for rooting gb file
Keep phone switched. On and connected to computer run the script and follow on screen prompts.
When done phone should be rooted.
IF BOOTLOADER IS LOCKED YOU CAN UPDATE OVER THE AIR.
ONLY DO THIS if 100% SURE BOOTLOADER IS LOCKED this will update to 2.3.4 build. 69 latest stock from Sony.
Sent from my LT18i using xda premium
Why not unlock bootloader, flash custom kernel with root support, root and delete bloatware (or what you now are going to do) then flash stock kernel, relock bootloader and voila - everything fixed?

[Q] phone wont root

hi all
i got the arc s 2.3.4 v and tried to root with superone click and other Gb methods. also have installed adb on windows, but after process ends and phone reboots , phone still unrooted?
have u encountered this kinda problem?is there a solution?
i got to root phone
thx for ur time
If you got baseband .62or .69 you will not be able to
root using doomLord's zergrush method.
The only options are:
1. using flashtools downgrade to .42 then
root using zergrush
2. unlock bootloader then install a
custom kernel that is pre rooted.
if you search on the stickies all answers
are there. Both in general and dev
sections

Root Xperia S (6.1.A.2.55)

Hello,
I'm one of those lucky guys who got the 2.55 build number.
Wandered around the forum for some time, seeking for a way to root my phone, but don't want to risk before being 99% sure that this may work.
As I understood, Bin4ry's method won't work with my phone, which results in need of unlocking the bootloader.
I checked its status and it shows that its Unlockable = Yes.
Now, let's say I unlock the bootloader, what should I do next? Flash a prerooted ROM?
All I could've found on forums was "UNLOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER" and "BIN4RY'S METHOD" stuff. Maybe because people were posting about this 2.55 thing alot. Maybe not.
All I need is a n00b friendly tutorial.
Btw, I'm on 4.0.4 ICS, which is pretty obvious.
Thank you, in advance.

Unlock your bootloader and just flash an auto rooting kernel.
But if you're unlocking the bootloader you may as well flash a Jellybean rom anyway
Sent from my Jellybean Xperia S
Hi, I hope the OP doesn't mind, but I'm kinda in the same situation and I need some help from you guys, because I am currently a Samsung owner (please don't throw rocks ) and I don't really know much about flashing ROM's on Sony.
So... I have with me my brother-in-law's Xperia S with 6.1.A.0.453 (ICS 4.0.4), never been tampered with, just bought, updated to ICS and rooted with Bin4ry's method.
All great, but I was hoping to flash 6.1.A.2.55, because I heard it is the latest.
But now the hard part comes, the phone has Locked Bootloader and I can't unlock it because "Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status > Bootloader unlock allowed" says NO.
That being said, if I flash the .55, how do I root it?
I updated and rooted an Xperia U a while back, using a method of changing the kernels, something like this:
Flashing the ROM I want (the one that can't be rooted)
Flashing an older kernel from a stock Rom witch was rootable
Root it
Flash the kernel of the last ROM, and root remains.
Do you guys thing that this method will work on Xperia S?
Flashing .55
Flashing an old kernel (from 6.1.A.2.45 or other that can be rooted)
Root it
Flashing the kernel of .55 again, and hoping that the Root remains.
Also, where could I find those kernels?
