[Q] metro pcs safe ROM?? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i recently flashed my samsung epic 4g to metro pcs and everything works except for mms (even the internet). the phone is also rooted but i am afraid to put a rom on it because i heard that there is a chance it could lose its flash. i am running android 2.3.5 and gingerbread.ei22. is there a metro pcs friendly rom out there?? thanks

From what I have heard, flashing another rom causes the phone to lose its MetroPCS flash. I hope someone can prove me wrong as I am trying to flash my Epic over to MetroPCS as well.
Also, out of curiosty, did you use this guide --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192128 to flash it over to MetroPCS?

yes
that is the guide i used, but you will still need to add your esn to metropcs's inventory. how? idk. but i ended up paying to get it flashed. they should knock a few bucks off since you did most of it. oh and if you follow the guide correctly and get it flashed by a store you shouldnt pay for internet just get regular talk and text because when i got mine flashed thats what they did and i still got internet for free. mms doesnt work though. hope i helped
edit: i also heard you can make a backup, flash the rom and if you dont have service restore and never do it again but im to afraid to risk losing it. if you try it (i dont recommend it) and it works please send a link to the rom. Thanks

[Q] EVO 4G Flashed for Cleartalk, Cricket, or Metro PCS

I picked up a EVO 4G from a friend who had it flashed to work on a service provider called Clear Talk, he says it can work on cricket, and Metro PCS also. Not sure where to begin, on getting this phone on my Sprint Account. Do I have to get it reflashed first just to get the line active and then proceed to root etc. Need a little help on where to start, thank you in advance
By flash you mean a custom rom is flashed right? If so, you are already rooted. I would ask your friend which method he/she used. Also, before flashing any other Rom, turn off the device. Once its off, hold vol. Down and power until your booted into recovery. Meanwhile, you can download any Rom for the evo and place it on the root of your sd card. At that point, go into recovery and choose flash .zip from sd card or something like that. Let it run and then reboot.
Also, it would be smart to put the Rom on your sd card before anything. When you download a Rom, don't extract the .zip file.

Figure out what rom is on there, make a backup of it just incase.
Thanks I will ask him, before I start on anything, but should I get the phone activated before I do any changes to the device or could I do what I want and then be able to activate it. This is my first time owning a phone that is not activated on my account
Does anyone now how to update the evo if its flashed?
So what is needed to flash a phone to a company like ClearTalk. A lot of people have ClearTalk down here and I had a phone that I wanted to flash to them so my sis could buy it, but I have no idea exactly what was needed to do it. Thanks
the phone has to be reprogrammed (not simply a ROM) using your PC and software tools such as QPST and CDMA Workshop. That or you take it to an actual Clear, Cricket, MPCS store and let them flash it using their software.
Google is your friend: "how to flash (insert phone here) to (insert provider)" for example.......
If your EVO is already flashed to another provider then it is HIGHLY LIKELY that you bought a stolen phone/one with a bad ESN (for whatever reason) that can never be reactivated on the Sprint network, hence the reason it was flashed to another provider
HTC hero for cricket and cleartalk
i would like to know the instructions to get my htc hero phone to work with cricket or cleartalk, and would also like to know if the esn number for the hero needs to be cleared from sprint in order to work with other providers. if you have the rom please let me see the link for it i would really appreciate it

I am pretty sure being rooted will not prevent you from flashing to Metro. If anything, being rooted is necessary. S-off will not have an adverse effect on the flashing to Metro process, either.
Everything you need to know is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=704161
I got it to root prior to reading this. I will take to M PCS and see if flash is successful (this time around)
thanks.

Wait.......you're taking the Evo to Metro PCS? I don't think they are going to be very helpful seeing as this is not something they condone. What you need (and please read the thread to clarify because I have never personally done this myself but will be doing it soon for a friend of mine) is to have an existing account with Metro so that you can add the info from that account to the Evo and therefore activating on Metro. Unless you know someone that works there and knows what they are doing with this, I don't think you should bother taking it over to them.
Sorry, I should have clarified: I am existing and need to have phone Metro Flashed to get the service. Merely adding the # isn't working as I am on their system already.
I lost the Metro Flash when I screwed up my 1st attempt at rooting.
Here's the problem. Evo is stock & unrooted. People at Metro (right now) are saying that they can't get their computers to read my evo so they are re-downloading drivers, etc. It failed first attempt (today) to metroflash.
I was successful at another corp. store and may need to try where it succeeded.

So Metro is helping you flash a phone from another carrier over to them? Talk about customer service! lol
For what it's worth I've never even had to have an EVO rooted to swap its carrier.
Keep in mind though, if you put any AOSP ROM on your phone you will lose the ability to enter ##DIAG# to enter diagnostic mode, and lose the EPST stuff. (For editing settings on the phone, not through QPST/CDMA WS)
If you are flashed to metro or in my case cricket, and you root then you might lose web/mms. Talk and text can be obtained without rooting but web and mms need rooting to run on the proxy work around.

That's where I screwed it up the first go-around. My Evo is good now.

that's the part (AOSP) I didn't realize when I got into android flashing/rooting...
Could've saved me a lot of heartache had I been patient and did more homework on XDA.

HELP: EVO Flashed to Metro (No NAM Settings?)

Hello everyone.
I have a Sprint EVO 4G and it has S-OFF so I flashed it to 2.2 and used Rom Manager to put the stock 2.3.3 rooted deodexed onto it then went to Metro PCS and had them flash it over which they did for $10 then the guy could not get into the NAM setting to put my new phone number ect into the phone. He said usualy all they have to do is 000000 to get into the settings he called the metro techs and they said to reflash it which he did anyway by the end of this he asked me if I knew how to get into the settings which is what brings me here. He refunded my activation and kept the $10 for the flash. I kinow if anyoine can help me it's you guys. Thanks
Adam
OH YEA & P.S. to save another thread should anyone have the answer to this and I get this working on Metro (calls and texts only) can you either direct me to a thread to get the internet 3g and MMS working or give me the steps. Thanks again

hey..just wondering did you figure it out yet??? I'm having the same problem.. Thank you
Maybe this will somehow help... It's for flashing to Boost Mobile but perhaps...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182260
I had this happen to me the first time I tried to "Metroflash" my Evo. I went to three different stores thinking it was the operator, not knowing that when I flashed and rooted the evo, metro pcs could not set it up on their Houdini system. I went bare bones via hard reset (stock rom) and voila, metro got it on their system.
I followed this guide by Bloodykiller after it was rooted. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795182
Again, this is what worked for me. Hope this helps.

i flashed Hyperdrive rls14 to a boostmobile Gs3

my friend just got a gs3 today from boostmobile and he told me to root it and since i saw that the version was sprints the rooting went well. When installing the cmw recovery it gave so many options that i didnt kno which one to install so i installed the one that said us phones. Then when flashing the rom the 1st time i put it as if it was sprints it went to home screen but the camera wasnt working... my friend was pissed then i tried the metro politan us one thats and it changed the version of sprint of that company but im still having problems with the camera i just want to kno how to install it right or a rom thats stable for the boosmobile gs3 not stock android either or at least how to make kies download the proper drivers so odin can recognize the phone and i can restore it any help would be appreciated
I would suggest checking out THIS THREAD. Also, did you make a Nand before Flashing ? There may be some helpful info there.

No i didnt im soo F**** if i cant get his camera working or i rom thts stable for boost mobile and on the tread was kind of help but kind of didnt still answer my question
You could try freeza's Stock Rooted Rom. It may resolve your Camera issue. But I'm not sure about the other settings for Boost Mobile. If that does not resolve the issue, you may want to ODIN back to Stock. But again it may affect your Boost Mobile settings.

Another carrier's rom on Sprint Note 4

Ive done a lot of reading in regards to this. almost every place I read says other roms should flash on device not of those carriers. reason im investigating this is because CM for sprint has all the sms issues. and after reading through all the tmo roms im not seeing anyone mention sms issues. every time I try to flash another carriers rom it reads that they are carrier specific and fail. is there a way I can make another carriers rom flash to sprint. my device is unlocked, though im using a sprint sim for lte and from what im reading also, its just a matter of an apn setting for sprint, and/or a radio flash for sprint. anyways, comments?

I wouldn't flash another carriers roms. it can make your phone brick and just a paper weight. other carriers have different settings and files that our phone doesn't..i don't know how to explain it better but I don't recommend it

That is kind of unfortunate if that's the case that SMS doesn't work right out of the gate on Sprint CM ROM's then. While I have gotten used to it, it does get annoying after a while having to reconfigure using the *#*#4636#*#* method every time.
I have tried to flash a few other carrier based ROMs via TWRP but they typically fail anyways (which is probably a good thing). I don't think I've ever actually successfully flashed another carrier based ROM through TWRP.

You can't just flash a tmobile rom on this device. It sounds like to me you need to get your phone unlocked to use tmobile sim. I would suggest http://www.idoneapps.com to sim unlock your phone.
I have no idea what you mean by password screen. What firmware are you on? How did you root your phone? Did you turn off reactivation lock?
I can try to help you but i need to know more detail of your problem. And do understand I'm limited on time i spend here. I'll check back when i can.
