Let me start by saying how fun my experience with my epic was and how much I miss it. Since I got the boot I have used a skyrocket and now a i9100, what I learned its not the same the people seem cold or rude I don't feel at home. You guys are VERY lucky to have someone like qb king! I miss the videos and all the help. There's noon like him. Great themers like Tiffany and devs like tcp, calkulin, phantom and all the other great devs. In the skyrocket the devs left due to rude ungrateful people. E4GT has few of them. This has been a great community it was so fun I still come by and read most threads. I just wanted to let you guys know in my opinion E4GT is the best community. Keep treating all the great devs and themers with respect and keep helping one another. You guys are awesome!
Thanks for reading this if you did. QB, Tiff and again thanks for making my phone awesome.; )

I would just like to drop in and say THANK YOU to the xda community as a whole.
i am not overly knowledgeable about these things. and the people here have been such a huge help.
originally all i wanted was to optimize my new tablet when i got it (acer a501) did a lot of reading and decided i wanted to root witch was easy... but i hit a snag wile flashing from one rom to another.
and the help flowed in. fast and helpful responses. while i was freaking out thinking i bricked my new toy, my helpers were calm and on point, and got me thru it. and they had no problem taking the time to teach me things that i asked about. now im helping people with simple problems so the experienced people can take on the big jobs......until i learn
so THANK YOU to the devs, cooks, and all the knowledgeable people that make up the best forum on the net.
THANK YOU!!!
I'm going to second this one. I don't usually do florid thank-you posts, but I really do appreciate the work going on here. xda gave my phone a second chance at life; WinMo sucked battery life and performance, but with GBX0B my phone feels like it's at least a year newer.
Thank this page and all people who are intetested in modding of Android

I want to say thanks as well. I discovered this site through a friend. I came here, read through on how to properly install rom and then downloaded a rom and it worked So yes I am on my way. I am not completely new to the Android world but when you deviate you tend to forget things. This site is bringing it all back to memory and helping me discover new things.
I would like also to show my appreciation to this forum and for the many people that support it and it's users.
It is been great on my side and greatly helpful.
I too would like to send out a HUGE thank you to all in the xda community for the compounding wealth of knowledge and experiences within.
It's taken me a little while to get where I am today, but like all things... persistance pays... but could definately not have gotten there without you all.
Thanks so much for all the help! This forum honestly made it really easy to start rooting and flashing. I remember getting my first android phone this year and boy was it difficult figuring out what everything meant at first... Thanks for keeping my G2x alive and well
I would like also to show my appreciation to this forum and for the many people that support it and it's users.

so today i was reading through the FF09 thread, and it seems like this build as well as FF02 have seemed to have taken a large step backwards. but then i look around the development forum and see all of the crazy things our amazing devs do, and i thought to myself:
A.) i wonder what these devs do as their day jobs, because the roms put out by them seem to be leaps and bounds better than the roms put out by the actual Samsung devs.
B.) i was wondering what you devs went to college for, if it had anything to do with computer science, or if you just taught yourselves,
and C.) if our devs are so much better than samsung's, and releasing kernel source would allow our devs to do so much more, why dont they just release it and let guys like Calk, and Venum and all of our other amazing devs go crazy on some roms. its not like any of us are going to be running stock ice cream sandwhich...
so if anyone wants to reply, or not, go ahead. just a few things i was curious about. the XDA and android community has started a hobby for me that i never knew about before, and has even got me considering switching my major next year to something computer related. i would love to hear from all or some of the devs, and get their perspectives on this

Dedication.
I agree Samsung/Sprint should be snatching these guys up but then I'd hate to lose them.
This is why people should always be appreciative of the work that is given so freely, other than donations here and there (or for some none at all) these guys are working for nothing more than the pleasure of helping out and learning.
I love xda without the developers we wouldn't have awesome ics roms or ics for that matter. I appreciate all the hard work they do for all us to enjoy

In all honesty, Samsung is building from scratch, while we're taking their build and tweaking it. It's a lot easier when you're tweaking a base, rather than creating it. But it is disappointing that certain flaws are fixed by people who treat this as a hobby as opposed to those that base their career on this.
I agree with the OP though. I am curious as to what our devs do as a day job/ how they got started in developing roms.

I wish xda can start some shorts of online classes Where u can Learn all this tricks and tweaks. Thanks to all devs once again without them phones would be boring.
I am A Police Officer and in the Army National Guard. I have a wife and kids and they all play sports (and yes my wife stays mad at me because I'm always flashing/developing something for our phones lol)... So my life is busy busy AND I'm a moderator here at XDA to top it off. I have not been to college for ANY of the things I do here... I've learn them all from XDA... Reading, learning, doing BRICKING lol. I know there are some that won't believe that, but its true and I have no reason to lie. I started theming on another site, continued here, and began to build a rom thought, could I build a rom that I like? I finally tried and after about 52 flashes it finally booted... I've been hooked ever since... I started our Team to have other like minded people come together and help eachother... I am now trying to pass on what I know to some of them... But you know what? I don't know everything and half the time I learn more from THEM. So it keeps me going when I get burned out developing, the team just by asking or having me test their stuff... its all so much fun... XDA has been good to me, users and the people who run the show. I'm still here because I love tweaking the hell out of these phones and making it better... and when you guys like it, that makes it even more worthwhile...

Not everyone here is necessarily on the level of modifying/porting things from compiled releases. Its a short cut for us because we have an ICS base to work off of but even without it I think CM9 would be only slightly behind Samsung instead they are at or exceeded in some areas. But the Epic 4G developers for example did some fantastic work and I assume combined with help from CM developers ended up with with both an official 7 and 9, with 9 being from non Samsung derived source.
I found it funny to see the early builds and first 2 CM9 port Alphas to have the exact same issues that Samsung had just fixed in the latest leaks of the period. Just interesting to watch our guys doing very similar work. Some of the issues on sbrissens cm9 source kernel are also reminiscent of the earlier leaks.
What is a job? Im a homeless bum that has access to starbucks wifi and has ubuntu based laptop. I stole this laptop from some guy at starbucks and I think his name was Calk??? Lol.
My job is very boring so I have alot of free time while working.

VeNuM-thanks for all the hard work. The Phone, yeah but especially being out there keeping the citizens safe.
Doc

Venum - for all the things you do for this community, and all the thanks you get on here for your ridiculous roms, you should get a thousand more thanks for what you do for your community and your country.
so thank you, not only for making my phone sick, but for protecting my right to live in a country where i can get an excellent education, and do something with my life other then mashing my volume buttons in cwm all day
Hi all,
You may or may not know me. I'm kind of a recluse (post when there's stuff that needs to be said). I've been a part of the E4GT since day one. The E4GT community is one that can be summed up in two words: Dastardly Fantastic. I'm going to name drop some people here whom I have much respect for and will miss dearly.
chris41g: You've become a good friend and I greatly enjoy reading your horrible auto posts on twitter. It was you that helped me learn the ins and outs of the E4GT. Even when you put a ; in the wrong place in the first CWM build for our phone.
ninpo, cnz(roadragen), bubby323: none of you are still around (these forums) but it was a pleasure working with you. If it wasn't for this group of people we wouldn't have pulled the original initframs off of my phone and compiled a zImage for people to restore back to stock. Regardless, ninpo you're the man, cnz your a narcasistic prick ******* and I do miss you on IRC harassing everyone. As for Bubby you copy cat kanger, I hope you aren't allowed to own another android phone.
Sbrissen, Darchstar, Team Rogue: awesome testing for you guys. You really take feedback and your users seriously.
Oddlou: For saving my life, literally. Seriously I was killing myself, and you helped me see something inside me I'd had all along... Courage and Strength.
Shabbypenguin: for being there when no one else was and pushing to keep development on this great phone.
Milenko & Team Troll: keep on trollin! Why? Because you jelly bro?
xInterloper777x: for helping me for 12 hours straight after being the 2nd blue light brick before we figured out it was impossible to fix.
PhantomPhreak53 & autoprime: for answering all my stupid questions, that if I'd only read my IRC logs I'd have the answers I sought I'd find. all the time and being good guys all around.
Jay Harper: for being a professional waste management thread cleaner and for taking out the trash. (Seriously we are all here for a common goal. It's okay to have disagreements but please back up your thoughts with facts or educated opinions... if you have none its probably not worth posting. The thanks button says thanks for you... it doesn't need another reply)
T.C.P.: You've been a real help and not just to me. Your outgoing attitude is what makes these communities thrive.
Team Venum/Blu Kuban/Calkulin/etc.: All you devs that are willing to work together. Even of I don't know of you personally... keep it strong.
So many more experiences and people to mention... if I've forgotten you don't take it personal we just probably weren't all that close.
Everyone on #ics-dev-e4gt and #jb-dev-e4gt theze channels won't go away. I'm still going to be there talking to you all.
Sucks I have to go all the way to Verizon but I hope to bump into you all sometime... who knows maybe you will brick and end up with my refurb as a refurb.

Even though I don't know you, it seems like you are a well respected member of the community so it's sad to see you gone. Farewell.

Always man! Sadly, as part of the deal to get out of my contract ETF free I had to send my phones back to sprint. I will, however, be a member of the IRC channels and will be there to bug you still!
Note# I will first off state that I want to be a dev (Like Nunhugger) one day. So I read and learn as much as I can. I get comments and inboxes from people saying they wish they knew how to make a custom rom. Lets get to some real talk. I am an uneducated man. I have no diploma or degree and I was able to compile my own series of Roms. 4 years ago the terms widgit, live wall paper, Linux, Ubuntu, toggles, etc was foreign to me. TIGERZ0202 introduced me to ANDROID and I had a Blackberry and didn't have a clue how to even work it. So don't tell me you can't build your own ROM. If I can you can. These are the guides that led me to where I am today. It takes time it takes patience. It took me months of bricking my phone as you have to test your own work. I soft bricked my phone over 40 times and finally hard bricked it and had to get another due to my lack of knowledge and trial and error. But I was determined I was going to do this. So here are some links that taught me. I'll add many from week to week. There are many people from noobs to veterans on this site. There are many young users such as my son who is 10. But knows how to flash a rom because he was taught and has an interest. Many kids such as my son just don't do a search of the forums (young child, lack of knowledge) If you are not willing to study out of the links I provide you are wasting your time. I do bodybuilding shows from time to time and its just like this YOU HAVE TO BE DETERMINED!!!! YOU HAVE TO WANT IT AND READ !!!! JUST GET FOCUSED AND DO IT MY FELLOW XDA MEMBERS:thumbup: Hope these links will lead to some new Roms out there for the greater good .

Hey! I'm moving on in the cellular world.... To a device with very little Dev activity.... Tho not a huge need for custom Roms either with things like xposed around now.
I've been a fairly active t989 community member and just wanted to say thanks to all the awesome devs here who keep the t989 alive and up to date with the latest and greatest!! You guys deserve much respect...
I'll miss this adventurous section of xda.... Tho I still have my S2... my 5 year old girl is watching Netflix in style now! Lol. So I'll still be posting in here and maybe flashing stuff....and I do Still retain my t989 knowledge..... But just wanted to show appreciation to you guys!!
I know threads like this sometimes get flamed....or closed.... and I'm a big boy....so that's OK.
Thanks to you guys too t989 moderators. Hopefully you'll not have as many posts by me to delete when you thread clean. Here anyway! Lol
