I am looking for a tethering app that will work on the gnex... Any sudgestions?
Just use the ICS built-in tethering?
I am not trying to pay verizon even more money per month...
You don't need to, just use the built in one.

you guys have both used it and not been prompted to pay verizon for it?
I'm not on Verizon
You might want to take a look at FoxFi, never tried it but according to the ratings it seems rather good
I'm on the GSM version for AT&T ... I wanna know if they will notice me tethering lol

Not unless they really look into it. If they want to know, they can find out anything. You are far less likely to be noticed on an unlocked phone, though.

There are dozens of tethering apps that require root. Most of them are pretty solid. Lots of recommendations in threads here.

I know a lot of people post threads like this but I'm really excited and felt like sharing... tomorrow, my galaxy nexus will be coming in the mail!! I am really excited to mess around with it!! I'm coming from sprint but got tired of their horrible service and I'm hoping Verizon will live up to their name and provide better service..any app recommendations or tips on how to maximize my enjoyment with the nexus?? Thanks!
If your going to root it do so before anything else as unlocking the boot loader deletes everything. That's my only suggestion. Welcome to Verizon I'm loving my cell provider and my phone.

I agree with this. What I will add is that you should just unlock your bootloader right away. Even if you had no intention of doing so, it would save you a lot of headache if you happen to change your mind. For warranty purposes, locking the bootloader is just as easy as unlocking it.

I'm waiting my galaxy nexus too and the first thing i wanna do is unlock the bootloader....should i backup something? i guess everything that come with the phone, should remain right? even eventually some photos and mp3 that are on the external (internal) storage?
Hopefully these are my last few days on my desire before my gnex arrives.

No. You unlock the bootloader so if the OP does decide to root, he can just root without losing his app data and then he can use Titanium Backup to backup/restore his data without losing everything because "fastboot oem unlock" will wipe all.
Good try at trolling for calling us "nerds" though.
I remember when I was this excited for mine to arrive in the mail. Its the best feeling ever when you see the fed ex truck roll up.
Make sure you unlock first things first so you won't lose your data if you do ever decide to root or anything and trust me you will eventually.
Also are tons of apps and mods for you to download when you get it. Volume+ is definitely one you need because of the weak stock speaker. Also, for the guy who is getting the unlocked GSM version you don't have to root to use wifi tether ... it will work right out of the box. If you guys have any questions just pm me and I'll do my best to help.

Once you unlock the bootloader, it resets your phone. That's why its best to unlock it from the moment you receive it because you won't have any personal files, pics, settings, etc.

How to use it properly:
1. rip it out of the box as fast as possible.
2. Take out the battery, and the usb cable.
3. Put the battery in the phone (this will take 5 minutes)
4. Fastboot oem unlock
One of the big attractions of NFC is Google Wallet. Yet when I open the app, it says "device or mobile network not supported." Does anyone know when it will work on T-Mobile/ATT/Verizon, what the deal with mobile payments and them is, and a possible workaround?

You can do it on stock but you must be rooted. Rooting is exceedingly easy on this phone. Go for it.

Yes. Call Tmobile tech support and tell them you need to have it sim unlocked for use overseas. You have to be in good standing. They will ask for the iemi and an email address. Usually takes about 24 to 48 hours for them to find the code for your phone and email it and the directions on how to do it. Have had 2 phones sim unlocked in the last 5 years and it didn't cost me anything except to time it took to call tech support.

Hi, the T989 isn't included on the "supported" phones of that app, I unlocked a SGS2 with it, but it was an International version (GT-i9100)
So to be precise and brief, IT DOESN'T WORK ON T-989 (our phone) but DO WORK ON REGULAR SGS2 but need to be on stock ROM for it to work...After unlocking, you can flash any other ROM and the unlock will be preserved IF the folder that the app creates stays on the phone...
All this info is regarding the app posted on the Play Store link above^^^

Yes, it's quite simple. Settings, other, tethering, and there you go.

What ROM are you using? If its one of the ones in the Development Section, chances are this feature is already good to go without any further tinkering. Most of the devs work this feature into the ROM's. And no its the same data you have when you aren't tethering (that's why carriers are scamming people). My two cents.

Op is allegedly stock, and tethering won't work unless he's on Share Everything or actually pays for tethering.
So OP, pay for tethering, switch to Share Everything, or flash a custom ROM....or root and use Barnacle.

I just got the new update an hour ago and wanted to share my thoughts because I know there's still a lot of people wondering what it fixes. So far I've noticed:
- Phone in general feels much much quicker.
- gallery no longer lags.
- switching from wifi to 4g o longer lags the phone
- camera is improved. Still slight shutter delay but I'm thinking it must jus be how it works since it's taking such high quality pics.
-updating apps in the play store no longer makes the phone lag.
-one of my favorite things is the home button response speed is really fast now(yes svoice home button is disabled) I noticed the home button used to lag sometimes. Much faster now.
- I noticed some buttons in the camera and gallery are different and have some extras. Haven't had much of a look yet.
-it appears all my apps are on the SD card now.
I can't comment on battery life or anything else yet but I'll keep an eye on it tonight.

Hello, I'm XDA. We clearly haven't met.
Can't ever root again......not if Samsung had the NSA itself encrypting the bootloader.
Also, the locked bootloader is only a requirment to run Samsung's Knox protection sofware, which is only really relevant for business use.
