One fine day noticed this sitting at the top of the apps list in market.
Clicking open launches Tetris. Tried freezing tetris and it disappeared, unfroze and it came back. Does this mean it's really a mislabeled entry for tetris and not malware of some sort? But why now all of a sudden?
Solution: See this post.

I don't know. I think it's safe though-read some reviews
Sent from my R800i using XDA
Yea it seems to be just us play users have it. pretty crazy.
Looks like it even has an official market link TestApps, how weird
In market on the phone, there are 337 comments (as of now), but nothing on the web market.
Also, all those reviewing it as safe are simply doing so because hitting open on the app launches tetris. I may be wrong but it could also simply be linking to tetris while actually being more malicious underneath. Kinda like how even a simple batch file can launch two apps (or more) and one app may be a background process, while the other is the visible smokescreen...
I would assume that this app is malicious, as the developers website link, links to a dead domain. I'd suggest removing it asap.

Can't really remove it, even with a system utility, because we simply don't know what to remove!
And freezing/removing tetris seems to remove the entry from the app list in market. If it's trojan-like, it's very well integrated.
I think we're entering a new era of android malware, and it's pretty scary...

Look in /data/app or /sd/android.secure for any .apk with that apps icon, delete the .apk then format dalvik cache and it's gone
Sent from my HTC Sensation XL with Beats Audio X315e using Tapatalk
LOL, it has no icon either.
So I deleted cache/cleared data for google play, uninstalled it back to the market version and then let it reinstall the google play update and the entry seems to have disappeared. Time will tell...
I looked at it now the icon is yellow and it has a blue and a green picture as the app preview. I uninstalled tetris a long time ago so it has the download option on mine.I'm not going to attempt to download.

So it's definitely tetris then? Just with a buggy market entry?
Dang, there goes my whole malware conspiracy theory...

I'm not sure. When I look up tetris, it shows up normally. When i look up testapps it shows the glitchy thing.maybe it's something that came with tetris? Anyway doesn't google recently for malware apps?
Sent from my R800x using XDA
Wait, where do you see tetris normally? It doesn't show in the market app list anyway...
It's only appeared since the lasted market update, which made some of our other bloatware appear in that list too. I'd say it's just a bloatware version of Tetris, instead of just using the normal download of it.
Updated OP with the solution.

Over the last few days all the apps I uninstall are not removing themselves from my market downloads page. So now I have a bunch of crap apps cluttering up my list. Is there anyway to clean up the market downloads list and remove all these free apps I don't care about since I uninstalled them? They're making it so all my updates are getting dispersed through the list, which is quite annoying. I'm running the latest CM6 Nightly.

go into SETTINGS>APPLICATIONS and clear the cache and data for the Market app. Open it up, it will re-gather the list, and you should be good to go!
Nope, tried that already and somehow they are still coming back
These are free apps by the way, I know that you can't get the paid apps to leave your downloads list.
Market in general is a joke compared to Apple App Store. I have been having the same issue.
I find it really stupid that if I click on a banner for an advertised game or app it doesn't take me there. They need to get rid if soundboards, themes and junk.

I tried reinstalling all the apps in the list, removing them all with Titanium with "Remove Market Entry" set, clearing cache and data for Market, and then rebooting... and they're all still in the bloody list. I also made a nandroid backup and wiped /data and when I logged into Market they all tried to install automatically with the apps I actually care about. Why can't I get these apps to go away?... D:

Uh, you hold the Apple App Store in such high regard, and it's full of soundboards and plenty of other "junk".
It may be a PIA, but I would try wiping everything, flashing CM and gapps and skipping the setup process. Once the system loads, go into settings and make sure backup data/apps (I can't remember exactly what its called or which settings folder its in) and then open the market and sign in.

I wish there was a way to filter crap app developers out of the market. I never want to see an app by a few developers that seem to just make stupid apps over and over (that ringclip guy, for instance) I remember there was an alternate market app a while back that let you do this, but I can't find it anymore.

Didnt mean to hurt your feelings. If you've ever had an apple product that accessed the app store you would know what I'm talking about.
1. When you uninstall an app it shouldn't remain in your downloads folder. This is very annoying and you find yourself clicking on the app you just deleted by mistake.
2. Android has a lot good apps but most of them are buried under junk apps.
3. The banners that I'm referring to is when you view all apps. It'll show me a banner of a cool looking game and if clicked on it should take me straight to the game but it doesn't.

This must be a problem with CM. I am running Fresh 3.3.0.1 and I just happened to have unistalled a bunch of apps today (all either uninstalled through the market or through settings/applications). After I uninstalled them I rebooted and they are now gone from my Market downloads page.
I have the same issue on stock 3.29 w/ root. Odex.

how do I update apps like Amazon, photobucket, etc.? I can't update them from the market since I didn't download the from there in the first place.
download it from the market. Just try it. Download it, dispite it not shown in the market as an update. Once installed the phone and your market will see it as an update.

yep
First time I logged into the market, it autoupdated all the junk. Goggles and visual voicemail won't update but that's it.
Yeah, I didn't even find "Visual Voicemail" in the marketplace anymore.
I'm pretty sure that T-Mobile might have pulled it from the market entirely.
Anyway, I can't seem to update Google Goggles either. I've tried several times, but it never seems to actually update and install the latest version.
Would it be safe to use Titanium Backup to remove that system application? Or is that not even possible, considering I've read that people have tried to remove the "bloatware" but it just seems to reappear after a reboot.
Any insights?

Damn, no more HD2 huh?
Yeah you can remove the bloatware from your device. Well, disable not remove. Read on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809231
Ha.
No way, Jose!
I still have my HD2, it's just collecting dust on my computer desk right now.
I thought about using it as a fly swatter, but that seemed too dramatic!
KIDDING!
But yeah, that thing is legendary, so I couldn't just be rid of it.
And thanks for pointing me in the right direction man, good lookin' out!
If you don't want to disable the app which is very easy to do over terminal emulator, try freezing the app with titanium backup. That way you can see how your phone will work with it disabled. For example if you freeze/disable the stock messenger app no messaging app will work after that until you unfreeze/enable the stock one. Same thing with youtube. If you freeze the app and download the newer one off the market it wont work.
Some 3rd party app depend on the stock app to be functional. Let me know if you need help disabling an app. I'll make a video. I <3 my new camera. I traded a gun for it.
I can't seem to update Goggles...
I've disabled the application, then tried to update it from the marketplace, and still nothing manages to install.
I have successfully updated every other system application through the marketplace, with the exception of Goggles.
How can this application be updated properly?
Have you tried to enable it then update?

Yeah, of course.
But from what I've been told by a few other users... it's a bug in the ROM that doesn't allow certain handsets to update that application.
I mean, unless you have been able it?
It seems liks Google started using the new market. What do you guys think about it? I kinda like it
I downloaded the apk and tbh its well better than the old one graphically. The widget section is welcomed and the overall look is just great

I uninstalled the updates (installed 2.2.6 APK), shut down, powered on my phone, checked the market and it updated itself automagically to 2.2.7.
It looks a bit nicer than the old one, although part of me misses the tabs - it works more fluidly than before - haven't had any downloads crash out on me either yet which is a good sign.
how do you get the new market? i dont see any updates on my desire running on cm 6.1.0
One day you'll wake up and it's there. No visible updates, just Google magic.
I just got it today. When I open the market apps it there already. The UI looks good.

More to the point, how do I get rid of it.
Using appbrain I can uninstall the market and briefly use the old one, until it updates itself again later.
And I can't believe google just added some eye candy, but the search function is still rubbish and there aren't any filters - tsk tsk.

I guess you could try uninstalling (from manage applications) and then try and find an old APK for the old market - that might stop updating itself

I wouldn't mind, except there's a big bug (on my Desire - Orange uk). Whenever my phone runs out of battery and I charge it and go to the market, then click on 'my apps' it only shows about a third of them. So I have no idea if I have any updates on the missing ones. The only way I've resolved this is to go into settings/applications and 'uninstall updates' on the marketplace. Briefly the old market comes back before being replaced by the new one, and all my apps are then visible in the market until the next time the power runs out. Very lame.

Also, I don't think I've had any updates for any apps since the new market came out. I'm hoping this is a coincidence and that Google tested at least that bit.
I have had updates with apps - not many but some since updating to the new market.
not sure why you aren't getting the update - maybe its phasing across handsets in some sort of random order...?

right now im using cyanogen mod 6.1 which doenst have the new market. is it possible for it to automatically update to the newer market even though im running a custom rom? or would i need to download the apk for it and manually update it myself?
Something weird happened to me, i was going through the home screens and notices that there was a missing shortcut for videos.apk
i go through the launcher looking for it and it wasn't there !! i was pretty sure i had it and i even used it. it was a red icon with 2 tabs when you start it, for movies rented from the market and the local ones on the phone
It might have failed updating for some reason and uninstalled. Try finding it in the market.
One weird thing I see is that Google+ shows up as one of my not installed apps in the "my apps" list. It comes pre-installed and seems to work, so I'm not sure what that other one is and how it differs.

quite a few apps do. it's because those apps you see "not installed" are the older versions of the ones that are installed that were updated on the phone to work with ICS.
[Q] Something is installing " the hobbit" & "kingdom of camelot" apps?
I'm seeing two apps that have been installed THE HOBBIT and KINGDOM of CAMELOT. I did not install them. Any idea what's installing them without my permission? And I'm not saying these are REAL apps. that's just what they are titled. Once I clicked on one and it tried to open a browser window.
Also, I noticed an app called COOL APPS that goes to a browser window: www.iconadverse.com/redirect
I'd like to find what is installing this ****.
Thanks

Have you downloaded a free app from the Play Store lately?
A lot of apps do this to make money. Usually it installs some kind of search app.
Uninstall some recently installed apps and see if they go away.
Are you rooted? If not, its not possible for an app to install other apps in the background without user confirmation, or so I've picked up on from my reading.

Sort your apps by installation date, and post the last dozen here.
I don't know if it's worth installing an anti-malware app at this point, but you can try Addons Detector. That might be able to find the offending app.
And odds are that what you see as apps for the Hobbit and whatever are only shortcuts placed on your homescreen by a bad developer. Either way, I'd be concerned and upset. I hope you will find the cause of this and go back to the Play Store to comment/rate as needed (unless you sideloaded it..)
Both are being advertised on Facebook this week sounds like you clicked on it from there.
