Rename Nandroid backups - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Does anyone know if you can rename your nandroid backups, so you have a idea of what they are.
Didn't know if it would corrupt the file or if clockwork mod would choke on it.
Thanks

Yes as long as you don't have any spaces in the name .... ie cm-7 would work but cm 7 would not

ClockWorkMod - Folder where backups are stored?

Trying to free up some space on my external card and realizing I have no idea what folder the backups are stored in, running clockworkmod based recover v5.5.0.4
never mind, found it, but for some reason every time i back it up, the date is all wrong, just backed up and it is 1970-01-04.06.58.12?
In had this same question, where did you find it?

Check clockwork folder and inside there should be a folder that says backup

Backups on this phone will always have the incorrect date. The recoveries do do not have access to the time.

That's weird, I made a backup with CWM before switching to TWRP and there's nothing in that folder.
Another question, where are the backups stored from TWRP? I can see them while in recovery, but not in any file explorer.

Yeah, in the clockworkmod folder on the sdcard there is a folder called blobs, erase it and you will get alot of free memory
Cheers

No

You won't be able to restore to the backups that those blobs pertained to.

Ahhh! Wait. Deleting the /blobs folder would be very bad, if you wanted to restore backups! See this post by CWM's developer:

Some of you may be thinking "well, how do I delete a backup?".
First, never delete the blobs directory. This would actually delete all your backups by rendering them unusable.
Simply delete the usual backup directory, and the next time you run a backup, all the unused hash files will be automatically delete (a process known as garbage collection). The recovery will show "Freeing space..." while this is happening.

If i deleted the file and now I make backups with twrp will they work or no. Thanks
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
No. TWRP only works with TWRP and cwm only works with cwm.

No I mean will the backups that I make with twrp still work when I restore them on twrp. Even though I deleted cwm blobs backuo

I don't think the TWRP backups should have anything to do with the blobs folder. (i could be wrong but i don't think i am) And i love your galaxy S3 rom reviews.

What happens if I delete blobs folder?

I noticed in cwm I have a bunch of folders in blobs but its not the recovery I'm using anymore. I have a feeling it would free up more space. Thanks
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
It's the backup files from your recovery. If you are not using the recovery anymore it's safe to delete. It will free up around 2 gbs easily depending on how big your backups are. Mine are always over 2gbs.

If you go into advanced options in recovery and change the format from dup to tar (I am pretty sure, but I haven't looked in a while) then you will no longer have blob files. I have found that tar backups are more reliable. May not be true though, you decide

Thats correct tar backups are usually bigger though than dup. I agree that tar can be more reliable since it copies every file not just one out of a string like dup does but tar takes more space. So it's all about what you prefer as you said.

The blobs folders are for recovery. Go ahead and delete them but don't expect to restore.

CWM blobs

I have a bunch of space being taken up by CWM blobs. I can't tell what files are what though. I have my original backup under the backup folder.
Is it safe to delete files off the blobs folder?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
No
Ok. 5 gigs are being taken up by CWM. Is there anyway to free up some of this space?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
Those files are critical to your backups
What you can do is delete some old backups, I only keep my factory original, the most up to date of the rom I'm using, and any other roms that I happen to be experimenting with. If you have umteen backups they will take up many gigs.

Can you.?

Can you extract a rom zip from a twrp backup? If so how thanks.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
Not that im aware of. Wheres evil?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
You can extract the system image from the backup and then convert it into a zip file. I haven't done it in a long time so I'll have to look up the precise steps required sometime this weekend if someone else doesn't chime in.

I like to break stuff!
I got what I needed trying my hand in theming and was looking for the zip for a rom that's no longer posted. But figured out apk manager can extract framework.res apk and systemui apk as long as your phone is hooked up to computer. Thank you

I've done it with no problems by using nandriod backups as my original source with dsxida's Kitchen.
