Anyone have any good recommendations on a secondary battery charger? I have the extended battery in my Nexus just about all the time, but I've been noticing its time to start carrying around a spare battery with me.
If possible I'd love it to be cheap, maybe sub $15, and any little add in features like built in phone charger or cradle would be excellent too. If possible, I don't want something so cheaply made that it may blow up my house
I saw the official Samsung charger, but $25 seems kind of steep for just a battery charger. I may just go for it in the end, but I'd assume you guys know a lot about whats out there.
Just charge both battery's in the phone while at home, one at a time and simply carry it around after? Saves you $

Theres a simple battery charger for like 4 dollars on obostore
Wow, thanks for the obostore recommendation.
FYI: That $4 charger is only for the i9250 (GSM) Galaxy Nexus.
Also, curse you all for not linking to it and making me take 20 seconds to find it .
Link for the lazy.
You can get a pair of extended batteries and a standalone charger on eBay for about $22.
There are some docks on ebay and amazon (if you are looking to spend a little extra $) that would charge up your phone and have a spot for an extra battery to charge up at the same time.
Edit: On a completely unrelated note this site is awesome and these things are so cheap!

I am not a big fan of extra batteries. The idea of doing a battery pull and replace another is not pleasing.
I got a rechargeable charger at Best Buy, an Energizer charger for $19.99. Provides 6 hours of talk time. They also have a $39.99 charger for 12 hours of talk time.
I find this to be a great alternative for extra batteries.

Those are certainly good options which don't require you to reboot or buy a charger to charge your batteries. Luckily the Evo boots much quicker than the Pre.

I picked up a 5,000 mAh dual USB charger at Costco for $15. I don't know why it was so cheap (it will completely charge my phone ~3 times). It was a few months ago so YMMV.
any idea who makes this? I have a 2000 mAh one, but would like a bigger one.

Found one by Brando http://usb.brando.com/usb-power-station-5-000mah-_p01468c035d15.html
Found this on ebay looks like a knockoff of the brando http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...370391817008&ff4=263602_263622#ht_3088wt_1137
I've been using this forever:
http://www.amazon.com/New-IMP500-Ge...9?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1276186919&sr=8-9
I use it on all of my electronics and it holds a charge for weeks in between use
I just found out they have an 8800mAh one - just ordered that sucker!

that 8800mAh one is kick ass.
lol but i'll settle with my Energizer one. Used my Best Buy gift card when I pre-ordered the Evo.
But these are definitely better than extra batteries IMHO.
Is there any place that has these things(either the 5000 or 8800 maH) in a store like best buy or something because I'm not a fan of buying off the internet

I'm sure you can find one somewhere. Just not the Trent Imax brand most likely. You can get energizer ones at BB.
i know i went to best buy and looked at the energizer 2000 maH one for 39.99 but for anyone that has it how much does it recharge your battery? because when i had my G1 the porrtable charger only filled it up about 30%(im talking about the portable charger sold at t-mobile)
I bought the IMP880 portable charger, 8900 mAh. I like it, although I haven't really used it much yet. But it should in theory be able to charge my phone about 5 times. It's not very big, or to heavy (to me) but it does have some heft. I wear cargo pants, so I just keep it in a pocket with me where ever I go.

It would charge it a little over 1 time. How come you don't buy things online? Generally you pay about 40% extra at stores.

does the IMP880 come with a microUSB adapter as part of the original package or is that something that has to be bought separately off New Trent's website?

Aw crap, I wrote up a reply to this earlier today on my phone, and then before I submitted it I did something, and my internet task got killed forgot about it. Yes it does come with a microUSB adapter (as well as a miniUSB and a USB splitter, and some proprietary thingy). There are 2 outputs (USB and D/C out) and one input (D/C in for charging). There's one hard button, for power or to check the power level (have to hold down on the power buttron for 4 seconds to turn it on/off), and 4 tiered power LEDs for power level.
There's a USB cable that comes with the charger is a special one that the other end is a female plug and the micro, mini, and proprietary adapter things are male, and so are interchangeable with the cord that comes with the charger, although the data cable that comes with the phone will work, and mine is actually longer than the cable that came with the phone (if that matters)

Sadly added this to my Amazon cart last week when it was $33. It went up to $43 in a couple days and I unfortunately pulled the trigger at the higher price. Looking forward to getting this in the mail today. I'll monitor the price over the next couple of weeks so I could hopefully request a credit from Amazon.
This is what i use http://store.goal0.com/index.php?p=product&id=12 , may be a little overkill but it gets the job done, I can charge my phone almost 50 times from empty to full... its also great for laptops, and small microwaves(j/k) kinda pricey but well worth it if you find yourself in the middle at the bottom of the grand canyon a lot, or the middle of the Atlantic ocean....

I have one of the energizer ones, It never does a "Full" charge to the phone, it tops it off to about 60-70% and then when the phone dies some more, it will have a little more juice to give the phone. Not exactly as advertised, but I keep it in the car for an emergency battery so it works great for that, and for note I dont have the 19.99 energizer one I have the bigger more expensive one. Also, they are put together worse then most remotes, I split mine within a week from just dropping it into the door pocket of the car.

Here it is: http://www.amazon.com/Sanyo-eneloop...TF8&s=electronics&qid=1277406229&sr=1-2-spell
Specs:
Input: DC 5.0V 500mA/1A
Output: DC 5.0V 500Ax2
Built-in Li-ion Battery 3.7V/5000mAh(19Wh)
For use with Adaptor KBC L2ADU only
I don't know if it has been discontinued or what - it's not easy to find online. $46.99 is also much more than what I spent.
This one looks awesome though: http://www.amazon.com/New-Trent-IMP880-External-Battery/dp/B002YFDRHW
I've used this unit for years now -
http://www.amazon.com/APC-UPB10-Uni...1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1277431415&sr=8-1-fkmr0
works great, and usuallly charges my phones fully twice..

I have this: http://www.buy.com/prod/motorola-p7...k/q/listingid/76445460/loc/111/203472669.html
It doesn't hold that much power, but it's cheap and convenient. Enough for one charge, or somewhere close to it. I also have a little mini to micro USB adapter, as the charger itself has a mini port.
I just ordered this from the T-Mobile website. I had the same thing with the vibrant and even with this bigger battery I need a second to get through a full day. I'm terrible on battery life on every phone though so it may not be a necessity for most. On my Sensation I was able to get two Anker 1900mah batteries and charging station for $20 on ebay but I can't wait for those for this phone. Hope this helps others.

It is also a dock for your phone so win win...
It would be real cool if while phone was on dock it charged it too! OP could you let us know if it does. Thanks!
i'm also looking forward to order this set as well
i'll definitely need at least 2 more spare batteries and charging dock
If it's the same as the samsung vibrant which I believe it is then no it does not charge your phone. You'll have to have your phone plugged in separately or just swap fully charged batteries.

Ya figured as much... I could do fine with just the two bats. but little worried about how much abuse the back cover can take, the way it clips in is fine but after daily or twice daily seems like it might wear out mighty fast since its so little material already!
There's also this dock, but doesn't include battery charger: http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EDD-D1F4BEGSTA

Yeah I like that dock but I don't mind paying $50 for a battery and sort of a dock, but cant pay $50 for just a dock. I can play my videos through my hdmi or wifi so no use for the stand alone dock.
I really like the official Samsung dock. Can't justify $50 for it though.
MediaDock does not allow data connection
Heads up on the desktop media dock. I picked it up thinking it would allow a charging/ubuntu connection. Nope. Charge only.
Ordered the charger w/spare battery. I had one of these for my Vibrant and am already missing the spare battery... Exchange push email + the other items I run on the phone make a evening battery swap inevitable...
Just ordered one. A spare battery will be great on this phone, not to mention 2. I could go 2 days without a charger.
Deebo took your bike too?
Just got mine today. Pretty good quality and is what you'd expect from Samsung. The part that holds the phone is decent but far from a dock. Id be worried somebody could bump the table and knock it over.
All in all, its a external charger and does what its designed to do - charge batteries. I can cycle through my 3 batteries evenly now and not have to worry about juice from here on out.
Deebo took your bike too?
I plan on buying an extra battery and I wish to charge it without having to put it in the phone, is there a way to do this?
Update: I found this charger but I'm quite sure if I can trust it, I'm sure how the volts and everything work with chargers but can any of you guys verify this? It seems legitimate though

OEM SAMSUNG
Wow that's a great deal, I was thinking of buying the Verizon Nexus battery everyone else here is buying but I probably won't need that anymore, right?
I totally recommend what kvizz posted. I have that and now I just switch batteries like a boss, no downtime for my phone

I haven't bought it yet but I'm sure it works but the OEM is what I'll be getting since it seems far better
Highly recommend the Samsung - had mine for a month and it came with an OEM battery, I bought the cheap one on eBay and was sorry I wasted my money. It broke after 2 weeks.

I spent roughly $30 for an OEM battery with NFC & a generic charger that has worked fine since release of the phone. I like the cheap one from ebay because it plugs directly into an outlet unlike the Samsung version which uses a USB cable.
i got 2 of those since day one, from Tmo store / ebay

I have one of these from Amazon and works great with AA or 9 volt batteries. LINK
AA batteries should be available or you can just buy rechargeable ones (thats what I do)
Edit: This device doesnt recharge your rechargeable batteries, you would have to take along a charger for those as well which might be too cumbersome for you. Either way, just another option.
Then when you get home you can use it as a regular charger.
Have a safe trip!

Did you manage to decide on one - I've recently picked up an I9305 and want to get at least a couple of spare batteries and an external charger.
I had 2 genuine HTC batteries and 2 cheap Chinese ones for my heavily modded HTC HD2 with an external charger. It was great for staying in hostels as I'd just wait till the battery was running low, swap out the battery and put it on charge - it's a lot less likely for someone to steal a battery and charger than a phone sat on a bed charging with no one around!
I was contemplating picking up a similar set up but I'm a tad more worried about putting cheap batteries in the S3 - I'm in the UK and the Anker batteries are £10 where as in the US they're $10, but the cheapies are £3 - I'll avoid the "genuine Samsung" ones for £4-10.
The Anker batteries seem to get a reasonable write up but I'm more interested in any major complaints regarding the cheapies.
I like Anker too. Antec is good too though.
If you dont mind the additional bulk i could recomend a zerolemon extended battery...
