[Q] USB Permissions in ICS - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Since flashing into an ICS ROM I am no longer able to write to my phone's USB storage. I can open it, but whenever I try to change anything it tells me that I do not have the permissions to do so.

Go to the Rogue recovery and run the fix permission.
After that if you still see the permission error, from settings > storage > format usb storage or you can do the same thing from Rogue recovery. Mount usb storage > Format usb storage.

[Q] CM9 alpha5 Internal/External Storage Question

trying to get a game working, i was told to unmount the sdcard and install using the internal. Heres the thing, when i unmount my sdcard, it unmounts internal and external storage. Also, my external sdcard is listed as /emmc folder and the internal phone staorage is located at /sdcard (they are switched). I think this is a know issue, but how do i unmount just the SDCARD, in this case emmc folder? Any ideas? Is this even possible?
Like i said, i go to system settings>storage>unmount sdcard and it unmounts both (i cant see anything in root explorer for emmc folder as well as sdcard) frustrated.
Go to settings > storage > settings > storage config > check use internal storage > reboot. See if that helps with anything or flips the mounts. Lmk if it does/doesnt work.

how to access sd card through recovery

im trying to install android revolution, i did superwipe but forgot to put the zip file for the rom on the phone. i cant access the sd card from recovery anymore so how do i put it on there to flash it?
You'll have to push the file using adb
adb push /path/to/file /data/media
That will put it on the root of your SD partition

This but make sure to mount /data in recovery

Have ADB installed, in recovery mode type this to copy file to the internal storage:
adb push locationoffile.zip /data/media
Type this to copy everything from your internal storage to a backup folder located in your ADB directory:
adb pull /data/media ./backup

The Nexus do not even have that option available since it does not use UMS mode.

I did the same with my htc incredible but still had cwm's recovery installed. To put a install file on my zip card:
1. Start phone - and enter the boot screen (for me, my phone automatically went to the boot screen since I didn't have any system installed). If recovery is not a scrollable option, then select and run bootloader and the recovery option will become available.
2. Select and press 'recovery' to go into recovery
3. Select and press 'mounts and storage'
4. At the bottom of the mounts and storage screen, select and press 'mount usb storage'
5. Plug you phone into your computer and a new removeable disk (your sd card) should be available on your computer.
6. Copy install files from computer to phone sd card.
Hope that helps.

As stated that doesn't work with GNexus. ADB is the only option

While in recovery plug your device into your computer with the usb and then just go into the partitions manager and then select mount usb mass storage and that will mount your sdcard to your computer.

As already stated above, GNex doesn't support Mass Storage mode at all.
And hey, what's the point of bumping a thread as old as this?

he's prolly trying to get his post count up so he can then clutter up development threads.

Internal storage = empty or unmounted

I had Kitkat 4.4.2 EUR V20A installed then attempted to install ArtMid 5.2.2 with OTA kernel 5.3, via CWM Touch Recovery 6.0.4.8. I had to perform full wipe and then a format /system partition, then I installed the ROMs as usual. The issue is that it caused a security boot error, and then all I could do is flashing stock 4.1.2 kdz. It flashed successfully, but now internal storage can't be seen. When I go to "USB connection type" menu and choose "Media sync (MTP)". It is mounted correctly and I can see the LG device, but there's nothing in "internal storage", no folers, completely empty.
When I connect my phone with LG Phone Software, "memory" amount is 0 GB. Attached is a screenshot of Internal Storage menu. How can I mount internal storage again? Flashing stock KDZ again? Thanks in advance.
Forgot to mention that in Apps>All, I can see the following info at the bottom: 539 MB used 25GB free

TWRP problems

I'm using TWRP v3.2.1-0 and rooted with Magisk 14.6.
I'm trying to backup system files and can't make it work. When I try to backup to internal storage, I get an error message that says: "Cannot create /data/media/0/TWRP' folder (Operation not permitted)." It doesn't matter what files I try to save or what I have mounted, I always get that error. It appears to be a file permission problem.
So, I tried using a thumb drive with the OTG adapter. When I do that, I'm unable to mount the drive in TWRP. I can mount it when booted into the system, but not in TWRP. In TWRP, selecting USB-OTG as the storage device does nothing.
Does anybody else have this problem or know how to fix it?

Firestick 4K Help

Hello was wondering if someone could help with a few questions.
1. -What is the safe way to factory reset a rooted firestick? I don't want to lose root (magisk) and just want to wipe out everything to get a clean start.
2. I am wanting to expand the internal storage via OTG cable. I installed root/custom kernel and the mod for it to recognize FAT32/NTFS. It shows some apps with the USB icon in the management apps but doesn't show the space. I'm also unable to open via ES file explorer. I did one microsd before root with the method to use a USB via sm commands on a drive and can't see that that through ES file explorer. After root I formatted another microSD with fat32 and i can browse through that without a problem. Shouldn't it show the amount of space used on the USB before root or after if it's updated?

1.adb reboot recovery
2.make sure you have your chosen firmware and magisk 21.1 on firetv sdcard. adb push or download it to a USB drive and mount in twrp.
3 once you're in twrp recovery :
twrp wipe /system, data, dalvik, cache
4. twrp install nameofyourrom, twrp install magisk
5. Once they've installed, wipe cache, wipe dalvik
6. Reboot
7. Go through the setup process and navigate to settings, then enable adb debugging/unknown sources and disable OTA updates:
adb shell
pm disable com.amazon.device.software.ota
pm clear com.amazon.device.software.ota
8. https://troypoint.com/expand-fire-tv-stick-4k-internal-storage/
For a guide to USB storage
Android/FireTV recognize FAT32 naturally but you won't see NTFS (Windows Format) within android. The MicroSd cards aren't great coupled with USB card reader on OTG... Best use a normal USB flash drive
Hope this helps

Thanks. So this effectively removes operating system completely unlike doing from the os itself. Curious What happens if it's factory reset there? Bootloops and loss of root?

Yes a full "advanced wipe" wipes everything /system (os) data , dalvik , cache ..
Factory reset (default mode when you select "wipe") only wipes data , dalvik and cache leaving /system Amazon (os) intact. Ultimately restoring factory defaults
When you boot to recovery always make sure you have replacement firmware at hand to adb push to Firetv /sdcard or otg usb (incase you cant connect through adb somehow).
You should always do the entire process within twrp hitting the "home" button after each task is complete.
when youve done your wipe/reset and installed your new firnware.zip along with magisk , only then do you reboot (and hope )
If somehow it boot loops then you can get back to twrp by plugging otg cable in to access recovery menu , or if it comes to it just short again only takes a few minutes
