I'm not sure if anyone else was experiencing lag from the new CM9 Nightly like I was after I flashed it.. So I played around with the options and noticed that the CPU governor under "Performance" was set to "Interactive". I switched this to "On Demand" & checked "Set on Boot" and man this phone flies now! Also make sure that the min and max speeds are set correctly.

On demand governor draining more battery then interactive one?
Much snappier for me too. Can't report on how it affects battery life yet. With this phone and the newness of the ROM, definitely keep your charger handy.

I did a bit of the google to try and find the difference between interactive and on-demand, the nomenclature sure seems similar, but could not find any descriptions of the 2, anybody know?

Ondemand
Quickly scales up the CPU frequency once there is sufficient load, and then quickly scales down the frequency once the load is no longer present.
* Pro: Good performance, decent battery life.
* Con: CPU frequency can constantly shoot up and down, causing more power drain than staying at an "ideal" frequency.
Interactive
Quickly ramps up to the maximum allowed frequency, then slowly drops the frequency once no longer under load.
* Pro: Faster to ramp up and down means a snappier response from the device.
* Con: CPU will run quickly for a few moments after it is no longer needed to do so, resulting in longer periods of higher power consumption and heat generation.
I don't notice a major difference in battery drain yet. Still mediocre. But I am willing to sacrifice some life for the absence of lag. I almost reverted back to gingerbread before discovering this minor change fix lol.

I do not recommend enabling KSM as posted above. I found out that ksmd process utilizes cpu by 3-5% for hours!!! It drain battery on my eyes!

Hello all... I'm new to Setcpu and have been able figure out how to OC and UV while still keeping everything relatively stable. The only thing I would comment on is your "screen off" there is no reason for it to be scaling/jumping from 800-1200 "ondemand" while the phone is not being used or the screen is off in general, just have 800 low and high or have 800 as your high and set it to "performance" so that there is no polling being done and it will set itself to the high value which would still be 800 anyway.
You might have a reason for that setting, just trying to save you a little bit more of battery juice.
Definitely bring down that screen off! I have mine set to 200-500 ondemand. I'm sure it'll save you a lot of battery. Also the battery 100% is kinda pointless because that's what the main profile is for. And expect your phone to get extremely hot if you use it while charging since you have it overclocked. I did that same mistake now I keep it at 200-800 to avoid the over heating.

Just a recommendation...you should give tegrak a go. I find it to be much more beneficial than setcpu...
Why scale cpu depending on the battery level? I prefer scaling CPU on my phone by the temperature. 1.6Ghz normal usage and then gradually scale it down if it gets too hot. I bought this phone for its performance, not battery life, which actually is pretty amazing for such powerful device.

be careful with Tegrak, as it doesn't work with some of the non stock kernels, and will freeze your phone for sure..
Pretty good. You don't need the battery>100% profile. Adjust that from the main page.

I use my phone about average with data and messaging stuff and my phone gets hot enough to burn me. The camera part is what gets the hottest. I turned fast charge off and had a significant temp. decrease. Is this a problem with my phone or fast charge? Is anyone else having this issue? I am running AOKP b35 on my CDMA Gnex.
CDMA phones tends to get really hot but side of it.. Maybe you are more sensitive than others? I mean Yeah you can feel the heat but as far as your phone keeps working its all good.. Remember you have a dual core processor inside.. Try to put your laptop or pc in your face and tell me of its cold lol

thats normal, especially when plugged in. it will get hot, especially with fastcharge enabled. plus, from what i hear, aokp tends to make it a little hotter.
My phone gets up to 119°F when I push it. Its normal.
pushing it hard at 1.689ghz.. 102C cpu temp, and 122F battery temp(the cpu temp widget needs to be updated to fully show 100C+ temps ). the safety for the cpu temp is at 110C. once your cpu hits that, your phone shuts down automagically. and it works, ive hit 110C cpu temp a few times before(just to check the safety, normal use you would never get that hot).

i'm on third party ROMs, they control temperature extremely well. outstanding ones being Foxhound and SlimICS. try them, why not?

based on my experience, temperture controls may vary in different ROMs as the kernel remains the same. so some ROM may fit best with specific kernels that's why i recommend flashing ROMs not simply kernels

The temperature is controlled by the kernel as far as throttling goes.
Heat is generated by the CPU and that is controlled by the kernel.
The only way a rom is involved in temperature is the processing it males the CPU do.
So ya, kernel.
I've been suffering massive battery drain on my phone since trying out a different region stock(xxml8) and flashing CM9 over it. Even after a complete wipe and restoring my old stock XXKL3, the drain is the same. I get 10hrs at best. Cpuspy tells me my 122Mhz state is unused, so after deep sleep the next state is 245mhz. I never used cpuspy before my battery problems so I don't know if this is normal on stock rom. Or could playing with the governors on CM9 break something with my cpu and causing huge drain? I think if the 122Mhz was available to be used I would use less battery. Any ideas guys?

-On the frequency i've been always using 122mhz--1401mhz because it saves power on lock screen and makes my battery last longer.
-you are not supposed to use 122mhz because you cannot listen to music at 122mhz because it stutters and laggs. thats why default is 245mhz.
-If samsung made the slowest speed 122mhz everybody will be complaining on music.245mhz can play music with no lagg and stuttering.
..............on demand 122mhz to 1401mhz is the best for me.................
Using Antutu Cpu Master I've been able to set the minimum frequency to 122Mhz. Will check if helps. However, my battery consumption with screen on is still huge. Don't know how I can fix this. I could get close to 6hrs continuous screen-on time before.

WOW my phone is amazing is nearly get 8hours(7h 53m) of continually using my phone through-out the day.
When im power saving it get 11hours with still 41percent left.
I've noticed recently that my battery is bloated. This can only mean it's physically degraded that's why I've lost so much battery life. This only happened after I flashed CM9. Before then I had a day of battery easily. There was a lot of overheating with CM9 maybe that was the reason.

yeah after I flashed a ROM my battery life was bad and my phone Battery got dangerously hot 50+.
so now I am on stock because my phone runs very cool and has much longer Battery life.

Been having battery issues ever since I flashed a 4.2.2 ROM.. I think its the modem. Being on like over drive, draining my batt.
Or is it 4.2.2? I tried all the 4.2.2 Roms that there is for our phone. And its seems to drain at the same rate every time. I don't know of its just me or can my radio be the cause of it. Or android 4.2.2??

I have great battery life.... Try ktoonsez kernel with your rom. I'm also using ktoonsez battery control in ktweeker with CPU profiles and also using CPU sleeper app.:thumbup:

Battery Drain......?! Try Battery Not Holding Any Charge!
I've kind of got a similar problem. Can't quite figure out what is causing it though. Everything was fine until I updated to tha latest nightly last night. It slowly took a nose dive after that. It actually died all the way out on me while sitting plugged in. Now, as I stated in the title, it won't hold any sort of a charge whatsoever. Every once in a while I can get it to boot up but almost instantly it shuts right back own. Can't seem to boot into recovery either, but have gotten it into Download Mode pretty easily. That's where it'll remain on for the longest duration, but still not long enough to be able to reflash anything to it. The battery state check said the battery health was good all the way until it completely died on me the first time. There has been no moisture or other damage done to it in an kind of way either. Any ideas as to what exactly the issue at hand may be?
Sounds like it might be your battery...know anyone with an s3 that you can use there battery for a bit to see if it charges...if so then its your battery if not might be the ROM or phone.

I'm running the most recent PACman ROM, which is 4.2.2 and what I do is set my governor to interactive and my I/O Scheduler to SIO. Running stock kernel at the lowest min and highest max, I can get almost a day and a half out of a charge. My trick is to toggle things when I'm not using them. I mean all the time. Screen brightness never above halfway, no haptic feedback, no live wallpapers, and I'm always clearing my recent apps. I don't know if this'll help you any but that's my battery saving procedure.

I really don't know anyone with an s3. Seems Apple has everyone around here convinced they're better. HA HA! That's a great laugh! Seriously though, there is a used cell phone shop I'll go talk to though. As for my kernel settings go I run interactive, on demand, 648 & 2100, under volt everything 100, and either raise or lower all other settings within one point from the least or maximum it could be. Been running that since I got the phone in September without any problems battery wise whatsoever. I'll start with checking the battery though and see where that journey leads....... Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions.

It will depend differently for each different kernel. If you want performance, set the minimum and maximum frequency to the highest stable and governor to performance.

The voltage you are setting is only an initial value, immediately after a frequency switch, AVS kicks in and auto-selects the optimal voltage. You don't get ANY power consumption benefit from undervolting, but you risk crashing the CPU during the brief period before AVS kicks in. (I've done power measurements.)
AVS appears to be always active and can't be disabled.

Yes, the Snapdragon 600 CPU does have dynamic GPU and voltage. Since he is a noob, the thread that I linked was just to give some general information on frequency, scaling, under/overclocking, and stability testing. Learning how to undervolt can be transferable to another device in the future.
