[Q] Problems unlocking with HTC Dev - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm on Android 2.3.4 and trying to unlock bootloader and get s-off, etc.
I can't get my computer to recognize my phone for long enough to run the RUU from HTCdev. HTC Sync will recognize my phone if I put it into sync mode on my phone, but when I start the RUU it disconnects.
any way to do the HTCdev method on Ubuntu? I have a system that I have Ubuntu on but I am not a pro with it either.
i am new but i've gotten the custom rom fever now since I got my nook tablet but this is frustrating me.
Suggestions?

I did it with Arch, and I'd bet you could do it with Ubuntu. Try http://www.droidforums.net/forum/ht...bootloader-through-htc-dev-linux-edition.html
I know it says Rezound, but it'll work (as long as you choose HTC Droid Incredible instead of Rezound).

Thanks. I'll try this tonight when I get home.

help!!

can someone please help me, i used the simpleroot method im guessing it all worked fine it says my build number is 1.17.651.1. how do i remove simpleroot? im trying to run RUU to get back to my stock evo ive installed htc sync and drivers, phone will charge, it will sync with htc sync but everytime i try to run RUU its telling me it cant find my phone. im on windows 7. also after i install htc sync drivers and run RUU it will find it but then it goes into htc bootloader and installs htc bootloader and the installation will stop saying it cant connect to my phone and wont connect anymore after that
I think I've read elsewhere that you may have to just keep trying the RUU until it "takes." That may be 5-10 attempts or more from what I saw. I'm sorry I can't report any direct experience, but maybe kill a half-hour trying.
did you turn on USB Debugging? adb wont work without it.
yeah usb debug is on, i guess ill just keep running RUU. also is this to be dont when the phone is on or in bootloader?
Try doing it in fastboot mode (access from bootloader menu). Also, I never could get the 1.47 RUU to work for me, only the original RUU worked. I had to use a PC36IMG.zip to update to 1.47.
where can i get the file PC36IMG.zip to update to 1.47?
If it helps at all, you can just use the RUU install to go to 1.32 and do an OTA update to 1.47. I went with this route and had no problem updating to froyo.
I did download a copy of the 1.47 rom just in case I needed it, there are several links floating around the forum I don't have them handy so maybe you can find them, I think I just searched for "unroot" or something like that.
just remember if you do this method and update to froyo it it is very likely you will be waiting WEEKS if not longer to be able to reroot your phone if you ever want to (if it is possible at all).
There is already a rooted froyo in the dev section. So unless you aer taking it to sprint may want to look there

[Q] Desire HD was rooted, unlocked and running cyanogenmod now it's sim locked again.

Ok this is an odd one a friend got a HTC desire HD, followed the guides I pointed out to him here on how to make a goldcard to downgrade then root eng & radio and then install cyanogen mod, it's been working fine for over 2 months then the other day he gets no signal but can still receive data, he also still has root, can install different roms and radios but the phone won't give him a voice signal. If we put a t-mobile sim in it get's a signal and works fine, tried to run a ruu update on the phone to revert it to stock so I could redo the root for him but the ruu update wouldn't find the phone so then I tried AMT but that wouldn't recognise phone as a desire HD.
Bit stumped here so any and all suggestions most welcome.
Has nobody got any idea what is going on with this phone then? Even just a way to get it back to stock would be great.
The android/htc sync drivers are installed properly?
Usb debugging on?
Whar does your terminal window show when you do adb devices?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
When I plugged his phone in I got nothing but it all works fine when I plug in my desire HD.

[Q] Problem getting s-off on 2.18 after HTCdev unlock

Hey everyone, having an issue. I'm back to the OG and I got the 2.18 hboot and trying to root but stuck tryin to get s-off. Now the problem must be a driver or something. When I try using adb, it's not seeing the phone. When I connect my 3D and do adb get-serialno, works fine but when I do the same with the OG, nothing. I was going with the HTCdev unlock method, got unlocked but trying to get s-off with the method shown on Evo Hacks and need adb working.
Any thoughts what could be wrong or where I can get the right driver?
Never mind, figured it out, FINALLY. If anyone is having a similar problem, uninstall all HTC drivers and then plug the new phone in and let it try installing them again.

Need some help trying to root and mod my ancient Droid Incredible

Hi all. I recently broke out my old HTC Droid Incredible to set it up as a gaming device. However, it really can't do a whole lot with the VZW bloatware and being an old phone. Figured I would root it to fix that. However, I can't even get HTC Sync to read the phone. Is it too old to do anything with? Any help is greatly appreciated.

You should still be able to root it. You don't need HTC sync, you just need a new enough bootloader (HBOOT) to be able to unlock the bootloader, and you need to be able to communicate with HBOOT via fastboot commands.
Did you try following one of these guides?

You don't need to bother with s-off, just unlock the bootloader and flash the recovery. From there, you can do anything you want with the phone.
I couldnt get fastboot commands to do anything, either. I'll give it another shot but really have no confidence it will work. Thanks for the links.
I figured out that HBoot didn't update when I did this last. Even if the image is the same. Problem is, the HTC RUU stops being able to read the phone once it gets to the bootloader, so I can't even update it. Any ideas?
