can someone please help me, i used the simpleroot method im guessing it all worked fine it says my build number is 1.17.651.1. how do i remove simpleroot? im trying to run RUU to get back to my stock evo ive installed htc sync and drivers, phone will charge, it will sync with htc sync but everytime i try to run RUU its telling me it cant find my phone. im on windows 7. also after i install htc sync drivers and run RUU it will find it but then it goes into htc bootloader and installs htc bootloader and the installation will stop saying it cant connect to my phone and wont connect anymore after that
I think I've read elsewhere that you may have to just keep trying the RUU until it "takes." That may be 5-10 attempts or more from what I saw. I'm sorry I can't report any direct experience, but maybe kill a half-hour trying.
did you turn on USB Debugging? adb wont work without it.
yeah usb debug is on, i guess ill just keep running RUU. also is this to be dont when the phone is on or in bootloader?
Try doing it in fastboot mode (access from bootloader menu). Also, I never could get the 1.47 RUU to work for me, only the original RUU worked. I had to use a PC36IMG.zip to update to 1.47.
where can i get the file PC36IMG.zip to update to 1.47?
If it helps at all, you can just use the RUU install to go to 1.32 and do an OTA update to 1.47. I went with this route and had no problem updating to froyo.
I did download a copy of the 1.47 rom just in case I needed it, there are several links floating around the forum I don't have them handy so maybe you can find them, I think I just searched for "unroot" or something like that.
just remember if you do this method and update to froyo it it is very likely you will be waiting WEEKS if not longer to be able to reroot your phone if you ever want to (if it is possible at all).
There is already a rooted froyo in the dev section. So unless you aer taking it to sprint may want to look there

This phrase seems to be one of those everyone knows...well except me. What the heck are the EXACT steps to running an RUU?
I am in fastboot with usb showing...then I attempt to double click on the file on my desktop and get an error about it not being a win32 file. Seriously have searched google for hours and the search here is down.
Anyone got the steps to do this?
[A] What exactly is meant by 'run the RUU'?
RUU = Rom Update Utility
http://www.htc.com/uploadedFiles/Common/Software_Download/Detailed_RUU_Instructions_09232009.pdf
Well if this is all you don't know, you are way ahead of me, sheez.
Now root, get nand unlock, install new custom recovery, new PRI, new radio and Burnt 1.2 and you will be good to go, laughing...
An RUU is a Rom Update Utility. It is a program that you run on your desktop that flashes a new ROM image on your phone. So the phrase "run an RUU" literally means to run an RUU. They are version specific. Meaning it is not a program that can flash any ROM for you. There is a different RUU for every OS version.
What file are you clicking on on your desktop that's giving you an error?
[A] What exactly is meant by 'run the RUU'?
I am not quite sure what you are trying to do, but I do have a suggestion. Take a look at regaw_leinad thread on [GUIDE] How to root Android 2.2 on the EVO 4G. He put this out way before unRevoked 3.21. BTW: This was the method I used to root my 2.2 EVO, worked like a charm. Anyway, it's not about the process he used to root an EVO, it's more about all the steps and what does what that you learn going through the process. May help you achieve whatever it is you are trying to do.
Good Luck

I am already rooted and running a rooted version of 1.47. I have a file called...RUU_Supersonic_1.47.651.1_Radio_2.05.00.06.10_release_CL195459.exe.
This was in an attempt to try to get a 'more' stock version of 1.47 on my phone so that then I could accept the OTA.
I have all of the sdk loaded and yes I have that fastboot in same folder as the adb...(if that means anything.)
When the first 2.2 rolled out many many people with rooted phones accepted the OTA and lost root. So I know it is possible to load the OTA when you have a rooted phone but for some reason I am getting an error. (In another thread, but it is an apply patch error?)
So again....does running a RUU mean...1)You boot to recovery, 2) You go to fastboot, 3) You plug in USB, 4) After you see Fastboot USB (and phone shows up in device manager) you double click the RUU
Is that the process?
Since I didn't see it mentioned. But when you run the RUU, you lose root. If you want to run a "closer to stock" ROM then download SteelH's ROM, and flash that through Recovery.
No, running a RUU is running a PROGRAM that does the update for you. Run the RUU right now without connecting your phone, it will tell you the steps.
Don't even worry about accepting the OTA. Flash this PC36IMG file and it will bring you completely current.
Hmmm...ok. Metalhead, I'll re-read your post when I get home and probably go in that direction.
Debugguy, that document was pretty good at showing me what I should be seeing, but now I am wondering if the file I got was a windows file or not...because it doesn't do that at all.
Thanks ya'll.
Something that may help, go to the unRevoked web site, some really good "back to stock" info here, may
give you some ideas.
go here: http://www.unrevoked.com/#evo
select (1) unrevoked3, then more
select (2) unrevoked Forever, then more
Ive had a look around and theres loads of posts on it, but nothing which really explains what to do for this specific update
Firstly, where can i download the OTA from? i cant see a link anywhere on this forum, i must be looking in the wrong place
Im on a rooted rom and have read on here about all the problems you get when installing the OTA on a rooted rom so was hoping someone could tell me what i need to do to get it. Ive read that unrevoked will remove root afterwards, but as im already rooted, does this mean i need to flash/format my device to a stock rom first (i sure hope not )
The only reason i want this update is for the 90% battery fix which is the only thing which really annoys me about this phone atm
Thanks to anyone that can help
1. Get the 2.29.405.2 RUU
2. Flash
3. Re-root
This is THE best way of getting the update if you're that bothered about it. And you're not looking hard enough for the OTA file:

As always, thanks EddyOS
Hi Eddy!
How i have to run your sig. Ruu?
1. download ruu
2. pc connect with usb cable to phone (htc sync)
3 run the Ruu
The phone is just on and normal?
thank's
If you're going to connect to the PC you need HTC Sync installed on your computer. If you don't want to install that on your PC then just connect the phone in FASTBOOT
Then just run the RUU
thank's Eddy!
Hi Eddy
Im trying to flash this now, but when i do it from the recovery console, it says:
E: No Signature (325 Files)
E: Verification failed
so i cant install the OTA
I cant install it via unrevoked as its not packaged as an image file
Can you tell me where im going wrong
Thanks
what exactly are you trying to flash?
can you give the link?
Its the link which EddyOS put in post #2 above:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...9&postcount=70
right, thats just the OTA update.
i'm assuming you're still rooted? if so, you dont want to run that.
You need to flash the RUU first as Eddy mentioned.
What rom are you currently on? and is it different to the original rom for the phone?
yeah im still rooted. My network is orange, but the last thing i 'installed' was 2.10.405.2-initd-rooted-stock-v2.zip
Are you able to link me to the RUU or whichever file i need? would be much appreciated
ok, you must have created a goldcard then?
the 2.29.405.2 RUU can be found here - http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.exe
once you've confirmed you've got a goldcard, run the RUU while you're phone is in Fastboot.
make sure you backup anything that you need as this will wip your phone and unroot.
and do a nand backup just in case...
ah excellent. thanks very much. yeah i do have a goldcard
one last question(s) though...whats a nand backup? and how do i do one?
also, can i reroot after using unrevoked?
you can do a nand backup through the recovery panels (power & vol down) or through ROM manager if you have it installed.
this should give you a backup to go back to if running the RUU gives problems.
and yes, you can root with unrevoked after you've run the RUU.
excellent. thank you sooo much for all the help
no problem, let us know how you get on....
everything seems to have gone ok just restoring all my apps now using mybackup, but the new rom is all loaded up and running fine. will let you know over the next few days if any issues arise
Good news!!!
Keep the RUU safe incase you need it in the future
lame...seems i was a bit to quick to say everything went well
so before i ran the ruu, i backed up all my apps (apks + data) using mybackup pro
however, now it doesnt restore any of the apps i saved to my SD card. When i go into the apps manager after restoring the backup, it shows no apps installed there. and when viewing all apps, it only shows the ones installed on my internal memory
Any idea why this is happening? I do have root and have restored the backup with superuser permissions
not too sure as i use Titanium.
have you tried restoring 1 by 1? you may have 1 corrupt backup thats preventing the rest from being restored - i'm sure i've read about something similar.
also, if you haven't customized your phone too much since the RUU/root, you could boot into recovery and run a full wipe again and reboot. it may help...
EDIT - you've not still got your phone connected to your PC by chance have you?
if its mounted as a drive you wont have access to your SDcard.....
After installing unrevoked I am now having a problem with updates. It will start the update, the progress bar makes it about halfway thru, then the phone just locks and a soft reset to follow. I'm new to android, the phone is an EVO, and the only thing that has been done thus far is running unrevoked for the wireless tether. Please help out a noob.
From what I understand the update looks for the stock recovery image. Because your rooted via unrEVOked, your device has a custom recovery (ClockworkMod) installed. You have several options if you wanna do a little research but if your simply looking for an easy answer to your question I would recommend getting a copy of the latest RUU (ROM Update Utility) which will restore your EVO back to a factory fresh state and will allow you to install the update. You will loose root though so be warned. Look around in the EVO developement forum and grab the latest RUU, save to pc, connect your device via USB, run RUU and follow the prompts. Another option would be to find a ROM based off the lastest update. There really not hard to install and this is the perfect time to start learning the ins and outs of Android. If anything should go wrong you always have the RUU to fall back on. Here is the 3.70.651.1 RUU. NO need to manually check for the update, this will leave you with a clean install of the latest software. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9836069&postcount=67
Thanks for the info. I actually just moved off of an HD2, so its all greek to me, just not that familiar with it. But again, thanks for the useful info, will get on that right away.
I had the same issue ... Ended up flashing 2.1, OTA update, OTA update and then flashed superuser ... Of course I started out with unrevoked forever ...
If I'm correct the latest version of unrEVOked does the same thing as unrEVOked forever, I say this because I used unrEVOked 3 and after updating my device is still S-OFF but when I download the superuser app from the market I get errors when trying to install clockwork recovery via Rom manager. setCPU is also telling me I'm not rooted. Any advice?
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever
Go down to the section that talks about reinstalling an official recovery ...
Thanks so much. Very simple yet so many people are looking for that exact solution. You saved me a ton of searching, thanks again.
I tried to update my Hboot the other day to .92 i believe from .78. Thinking it was as simple as flashing it through bootloader and thats it. I was stuck at the white htc screen for hours so I figured I was screwed. I wiped everything with no luck and then I flashed something so now my HBoot is 0.77.0000 and my Radio is 1.00.03.04.06. I was previously running CM7 nightlies. After flashing whatever zip I did I was trying to reverse what I did by "downgrading" and what I did was delete everything. I cant boot and I also dont have recovery anymore. I can only use Bootloader. PLease any help I can get is appreciated. If u can tell me how to fix this ill make a 10 dollar donation to your paypal. My e-mail is [email protected] if u want me e-mail any information. Thanks a ton
Try the following link.
You may need to get an usb sd card reader. That way you can put the needed files using your pc.
I am sure someone more knowledgeable will come along to help you.
I read somewhere that if you can get to the bootloader, it might have not neen bricked yet.

Download this file
http://www.fourty.net/~berzerker/sto....605.1_RUU.zip
Rename it to PB31IMG.zip, put it on the root of your SD card, Boot into the bootloader (hold vol- and pwr) and let it run the update. After it is done you will be back to a stock 2.2.
I forgot to mention in my initial post that I also updated my radio to the newest 2.15 but still had recovery after I did that and after that is when I tried to downgrade everything and lost my recovery. Didnt know if that makes a difference or not. Thanks for the quick replies
Goos3y that link you sent me says 404 not found.
ok there is hope. I am a littl confused though. Do you have recovery?
No i do not have recovery only hboot. I am using my lady's Droid X with my SD card to put any files on the card that I need to.
http://dougpiston.com/?page_id=108 download the PB31IMG.zip put it on the root of the sd card and flash through bootloader as previously stated. Make sure it is named PB31IMG.zip or it wont get recognized. You will loose root and have S on. Thank doug piston for the dl.

this is not in the right section but if you can still get into recovery restore a working nandroid back up. after that go to backup and restore>advanced restore and restore your boot image. im pretty sure upgrading you hboot erases your boot image.
EDIT: I saw that someone posted a PB31IMG up earlier. I'd try that one first,
This is for the RUU exe.
An RUU is a program which links to any phone that can get into bootloader, and installs a completely unrooted stock image to your phone. It can be done either by using the linked program (an exe) or getting an ruu version that is a zip and running it on bootloader with a specific filename "PB31IMG.zip"
This tutorial is for the EXE version linked below.
WARNING: I have no idea what happens if this is used on an SLCD incredible.
Therefore, you need to know what kind of screen you have, and I'm no expert on that.
DONT use this RUU if you find out you have an SLCD screen.
I am not sure whether android sdk tools or htc usb drivers are nessesary for the ruu, so if anyone can comment on the necessity of these, i would appreciate it.
Heres what you need:
1. A PC
2. The RUU exe file
3. a cable to connect the PC to your phone
4. The knowledge of whether your phone is an SLCD or not.
Instructions:
1. Hook up your phone to the computer
2. Put the phone into hboot
3. Run the ruu
4. If it messes up at the usb detection thing, keep the phone plugged in, exit the ruu program, and then run it again. It should work then.
At the end of this process you should have a fully functional unrooted froyo incredible.
You dont need to give anyone $10. We all want your phone to work.

You will lose root (easy to get back) but will still be S-off.
You can either use the PB31IMG or the .exe method. Just grab the files off doug piston's website. We've had a lot of problems with SLCD owners grabbing the RUU off youtube and other sites then having a screen that no longer works.
I tried the PB31IMG zip method but in hboot after searching through the file it says no image. I am going to try the RUU now. Do i need to have the android sdk stuff on this computer for the RUU to run correctly? I am using a different laptop, one which does not have the driver files installed that I needed to initially root my INC.?

Unfortunately Marty, its not easy to tell which is amoled and SLCD without having the phone on to verify that its hardware revision is 002 or 003.
002=amoled
003=slcd
If you still have the box i'd recommend looking at it.
I thought you loosed s-off but ok. Did you make sure the PB31IMG.zip was not named .zip.zip?

Well, if you run it without them, and it doesnt work, it wont make anything worse. It just wont work, and then youll know. It probably has nothing to do with the SDK and more to do with HBOOT USB drivers. I would say go for it without any of that.
The most important thing you can know is that your incredible is not bricked. Its totally fixable.
I screwed mine up in precisely the same fashion early on, and used the EXE with good success.
Im positive. I got the phone in august of 10 through verizon. I dont have the box anymore. I have looked into it before and think "think" I have the amoled screen.

August = AMOLED
SLCD didnt start to ship until september.
The RUU is loading now. Its at 76% on Updating system. So, if this does work where does my phone stand? Do I need to re-root get s-off and things of that nature?
You will still have s-off. Your phone will be on a .92 hboot with the 2.15 radio. You will need to either rerun the root tool to get recovery back or use a recovery that is flashable through hboot. If using the PB31IMG didn't work for you before I suggest rerunning the tool.
Once recovery is installed do not attempt to restore from within recovery, instead download another rom and flash it through recovery.
Just wanted to drop back in and say thanks to everyone who helped me get my INC back. I really appreciate it and I can throw the BB Storm back in the closet!
Im already rooted but I'd like to root with Unrevoked b/c i've heard it will give me HBoot .92 and every other method i've tried to get .92 just doesn't work. So can i just run unrevoked and "re-root" ??
Did you download the latest HBOOT .92 from Doug Piston's site here, rename it to PB31IMG.zip, put it on the root of your SD card, boot to HBOOT to update?
Are you S-OFF currently? I am not sure if you need to be, but when I ran Unrevoked, it didn't give me .92 HBOOT. Try running Unrevoked Forever if you are S-ON to get S-OFF, then try updating HBOOT.
I did try downloading that and about every other suggestion i've heard....no dice. I am s-on, could that be the problem??
Well, if you were to get S-OFF, that would eliminate it as the issue, so I'd go for it. S-OFF will allow flashing of leaked radios, things like that, so that could be the issue here. You can always get back to S-ON if needed. Then retry the HBOOT steps.
when i run Unrevoked to get s-off i get the error message:
"unable to gain root...is your firmware too new?"
I've read where Market installed apps have done this, FrostIncredible said DropBox had to be uninstalled on his to get it to work. Maybe another app you've installed from the Market? Possibly setting the phone to Disk Drive mode when plugged into USB instead of Charge Only...or if you're in Disk Drive mode try Charge Mode Only. Make sure you're using Unrevoked HBOOT drivers too, here.
I've also read where people have installed then uninstalled the HTC Sync program but left the drivers and it worked. I would try this last. Apparently, it installs the HTC Sync drivers and the HTC Sync program, so uninstall only the HTC Sync program and leave the drivers.
This step by step guide may help too. It's a start to finish guide with links, for reference...here.
