About Prepaid questions - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hello.
I will business trip on USA about monthly.
I have SGH-T989 and using T989D Telus rom (Because, 989D Telus rom is pure than t-mobile ROM) in my country korea.
So I've questions.
1) I paid "$50 unlimited data service"
This unlimited package include "unlimited talk"
"Unlimited talk" means only allow T-mobile to T-mobile ?
If I call T-mobile to ATT&T or Verizon, and I've no balance, what will occur?
(If another operator to call, and charge money, how much is it? (charge rate))
2) Mobile hotspot
If I use unlimited data plan, and using Smartphone Mobile HotSpot($15),
Can I use unlimited wifi tethering(mobile hotspot)?
3) Change plan in 1~2 days.
Yesterday I paid $50 unlimited plan, but I don't know If I exceed 500MB 4G speed, it will change to 2G speed.( I thought it will change 3G HSDPA)
So I will change plan to $70 unlimited plan on today, Is it possible?
Its just only additional charge $20 ?

I believe the unlimited talk is to any usa carrier.
2. Don't pay for mobile hotspot, it's free with a custom rom or work around. And yes it uses your data plan, so if you have unlimited.. You have unlimited hotspot.. But i don't remember tmobile having true unlimited data anymore... If they do it's very expensive.
3. 500? I thought the $50 plan is 100. But yes it changes to 2g. I don't think you can just add on $20 to change it. You can only change it with the full $70. So wait until next month.
Tips. There are other prepaid choices like simple mobile. I think there's some walmart plan too not sure

I heard that simple mobile provide only 2g service.
But I need 3G speed, becuase I will use notebook when file download.
So I prefer T-Mobile than Simple mobile.

$40 plan is 3g
$60 plan is 4g
you can ask the simplemobile users how the 3g speed is like for our phone, there is another ongoing thread. check that out.
BTW t-mobile = simplemobile

Can my Simple Mobile phone be 'tethered' to use as a modem?
No, Simple Mobile does not allow tethering the phone as a modem.

So I will select T-Mobile 4G monthly plan.
Thanks.

actually it can.
there is nothing to stop you from using it.
- It is my part time job so i know this stuff...
I personally never used my t989 on simple mobile so i can't tell you the 3g speed of it, ask the others.
you can tether with any carrier you want as long as you have DATA access, and your phone will tether it for you. You can root your phone and freeze the apps that prevents you from tethering, use a 3rd party app, or run a custom rom.

Your very kindness
I only know that remove tethering apk on at&t or tmobile phone.
Nor some custom roms organize tethering command on init.d or rc.d script.
If i get a simple mobile sim card, i will test about tethering and share information

Simple mobile on G2

Hey im currently wanting to switch to siimple mobile because of its cheapness so i was wondering if anyone who is in the us has it with their G2
How is the service?
It'll be the same since simple mobile is a subsidiary of t-mobile.
It operates on the same network, radio frequencies, etc.
The only thing you would have to change when going onto simple mobile would be your apn settings.
Simple Mobile has a rather bad reputation, and what's the point nowadays anyway with the super cheap T-mobile Monthly 4G plans announced in mid-October?
$60/month prepaid no-contract with unlimited everything, and 2GB 4G data allowance before throttling, no overages charges possible, free tethering for your laptop, free mobile hot-spot (miFi) and free wifi calling!! - an UNREAL DEAL
besides, a whole lot of those things (4G, wifi calling, tethering, mobile hot spot) you WOULD NOT be getting with Simple Mobile and their monthly price is only a few bucks less, that is a really bad way to save money!
also, T-mobile has loosened up their requirements on bring your own phone, you can bring pretty much any compatible phone over to this plan, including the G2 which I use on this plan and it's AWESOME

t-mobile doesn't have a 40 unlimited plan on no contract prepaid, and heck yes they throttle big time! - but at least they don't run up your bill with overage charges or cut you off completely like every other carrier does!
Well after your response I decided to not get that plan I'm going to upgrade my current plan to one that has unlimited text and data with 100 minutes of calling
For 30 dollars a month does it sound good?
Good choice, was gonna mention T-Mo's $30 but fellas brought it up first. Simple Mobile sounds and looks good for a byod service the only thing is.. it is false what they claim. Their claimed "3G" speeds are not "3G" speeds though it may be under their "3G" towers. Fastest ever reported are slightly above 120kbps which is not "3G" speeds though, I repeat, it MAY be under their "3G" towers. Another thing is they cut your data off without any notice at their convenience if they notice any "abuse" from the user...imo, the word abuse is nonexistent under the internet dictionary terms and their simply no way to get a hold from them for cs. So yea bro, good choice of plan but IF ONLY they would accept current customers so we could keep our historical phone #'s.

I have Simple Mobile and have the G2, before the switch (was on Tmo) I had lousy signal and lousy data, I have no idea as to why and I am far from complaining. I have GREAT reception and fantastic data. I am one happy person. At home I do use my WIFI and if I am in a hot spot that has wifi available I use that to cut down on my usage. I am a heavy user that can use up to 4g a month. I hope this helps and have a look at simple.

I currently made the switch to this plan too and have been happy ever since!! *NO Hidden fees what so ever!!*

^ thats all you need...who cares about 100mins when you have 5gb!
I'm with SimpleMobile right now and they seem to be fine like any other. But their reception can be a little spotty sometimes but for the money you pay, it's worth it. No complains for me.

[Q] A couple questions: AT&T data and tethering

Asking this for a buddy of mine, I'm a T-mobile gs2 user and know nothing about the AT&T side.
Been browsing and googling for a couple hours and thought it'll be easier to get a confirmation from XDA members
1. My friend is on a grandfathered unlimited data plan. Will he be able to get LTE with this plan? I read that he needs to update the data plan. Is that really necessary?
2. If he only gets 3g what speeds are we talking about? h+ speeds?
3. Tethering question: I read a couple mixed answers, but usually on t-mobile devices running a custom ROM usually allows us to tether through native hotspot or tethering apps. How is it like on At&t? I read that they blocked most apps and maybe foxfi too? I'm not even sure if the block even applies to his plan because hes on an old grandfathered unlimited plan
TLR; Friend is on old grandfather unlimited plan, can he get LTE? if not does he get H+ speeds? and how does tethering work here?
Yes he will get LTE, with throttling enabled after 5gb a month vs 3gb on a non LTE plan. Tethering is possible if the custom Rom has been hacked or via a third party app, however i recommend targeting very sparingly to avoid detection.

I just ugraded to a new GS3 with a grandfathered unlimited plan. I was told that i could keep my unlimited plan - and did for about 12 hours. Then my data quit working completely. I called and they reset my unlimited plan. A few days later I checked and I had been put on a 5gb plan.
It took multiple calls back and forth to AT&T but I did get my unlimited plan back - for now. I'll have to keep checking to make sure they don't switch me again.

thanks guys, now whats with the threads that says at&t has been blocking all 3rd party tethering apps and stuff like that? Is that only in reference to stock rooted?
I upgraded from a 3G phone a few weeks ago with a grandfathered unlimited plan and although I had to get a new data plan, it has stayed unlimited (and same price) with the new ATT GS3. I called ATT customer service about a week after my phone was activated to verify my data plan and when I asked if they could waive the activation fee, they obliged no questions asked. I get LTE, now that it is available in my area, and my plan is still unlimited. Every tethering app I've tried works, including cwm USB tether and foxfi, but that is not to say they won't/can't notice I'm using it. Tethering apps are blocked in the app store when I look on my phone, but I downloaded them on a PC, put the apk on the phone, and installed that way.
Oh thanks! I understand what the others meant by it being blocked by at&t now. Can't we spoof the play store to another carrier like T-Mobile so it shows the apps? I would test this but I'm not on att nor have a gs3.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
They don't need to detect apps to see if you are tethering.. They can tell from the data on their network.
You will most likely get caught and get a warning. When you tether again after the warning they will force you off unlimited and onto the 5gb plan.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
I am grandfathered in as well and I am still on the unlimited plan and still get LTE. I am getting around 40MB/sec download. I have got warned twice by ATT about tethering but they never switched my plan. I tether to my wife's iPad and my Kindle Fire all the time and ATT has not sent me anything in like 6-8 months.

AT&T Mobile Hotspot vs. FoxFi

Since use of the GS3's hotspot is included in AT&T's mobile share plans, is there any advantage to using FoxFi instead?

Yep. Most definitely. I have a i747, but I don't use a AT&T SIM. Fox-Fi allows you to fully utilize your existing data plan. I've downloaded ~4GB of data on my (trial) unlimited data plan in a single day while being tethered, so I know it's worth it weight in gold from day one.

I can see the advantage in your case. However, could Fox-Fi help me even though I have AT&T hotspot included in my Mobile Share plan?

Yes, it can still help you. Try the free version first. If you like it, then you can cancel your AT&T Hotspot package. and stick with your basic data package.
I'm in Jamaica, so we don't have AT&T here. I'm literally getting tethering for free with my unlimited data plan

I'm not paying extra for use of AT&T's hotspot functionality because it is already included within all Mobile Share plans unless I'm missing something. If I were not on a Mobile Share plan, I can clearly see the advantage. If only I could get one of those coveted unlimited data plans...
If you want to use bluetooth instead of wifi tethering it will let you without rooting. Otherwise if you were planning on using WLAN just use the ATT mobile hotspot. I don't know of any other advantages in your situation.

[Q] Wireless Hotspot?

Here is the scenario:
There are around 10 of us in my office who have beefed up data plans because we stream all day ER DAY. Instead of us paying $30 each every month, we (actually me) came up with an idea to buy a hotspot for the office, and then split the cost 10 ways. after doing a lot of reasearch as far as prices and data caps and speeds I have come up with the following ideas:
1. Sprint phone with bad ESN flashed to Metro PCS ($60, no 4g LTE)
2. Add an existing T-Mobile line ($60, 10GB soft cap)
3. ???
Assume the device we will be using is a rooted, unlocked Samsung S3. Does anyone have any better ideas? We live in OC California, its 70 degrees outside if that helps.

I have T-Mobile's 10GB top-tier data plan and I am already 7.7GB and I am only halfway through the month. I am looking for an uncapped data plan only, no voice or mms.
It really sucks when you are the person who knows the most about phones in your life, there is no one to ask for help =(

Hotspot is not unlimited and that's what the OP wants.
OP, in my humble opinion; add a tmobile line for the said GS3 and get the unlimited data plan. There are many ROMs for that phone that support tethering, even thought the plan does not.

What carrier should i use???

Hello everyone,
I currently have a samsung galaxy s5 rooted specially for the hotspot.
I am thinking of changing my unlimited sprint data plan for any carrier on that would work like sprints unlimited hotspot using a new ONEPLUS3, with no data slowdowns . Any suggestions! Thanks

Thanks! Is you data plan prepaid? Does your download speed slows down after any over limit?

I'm a long time customer of T-Mobile. I have a 30 dollar unlimited package. Unlimited everything, though I think after 10 or so GBs, it goes to 3g. I think that's how it works. But I've never noticed any slow downs. Probably because I never really reach 10gb. But they still offer unlimited plans I believe. And op3 works great with the carrier. Simple SIM swap and you're ready!
My mother has a 3 or 4gb plan. I think she pays like $15 a month. She's not a big user of her phone, and she has an iPhone 6. She's been a customer as long as me.
So my plan would be extremely cheap if I didn't still owe for my old lg g4 and my htc10. Once those are paid off, my plan will be very inexpensive
[ ---------- Post added at 04:32 PM ---------- ]
Oh, and it's a 2 year contract like pretty much anyone else. You pay monthly.
And Wi-Fi hotspot limit is 6gb I believe on all unlimited plans. I think after 6 it just slows speed. Not positive though on that.
Is there any way to trick the mobile hotspot?
I mean using the modified hotspot so it wont know the difference between the hotspot or the mobile data?
Like Sprints unlimted Data PLan, it doesn't know the diffence.
Most carriers can tell since the user agent of your browser on a PC communicates that it's a PC even if traffic is being routed through your phone
Edit: please delete
MetroPCS is the bomb. Works off of T-Mobile and you still get volte. And it's cheaper.

Long time user of Verizon with unlimited grandfathered plan. I left it for OP3. Why? Seems to me since I buy my phones and only like the unlock able types Verizon will never get off the CDMA network and globally GSM seems to be the standard. So I left VZW for Sprint.
I am in the US and the performance and coverage has been just as good. I do have a TMobile as a second sim for home phone which is off most time....but I find that TMobile is weaker in county and has most spoty area for coverage. VZW was excellent for my US travels but so for since just switched ATT is holding fine.
