Fastboot option on the Desire HD? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I lost my Desire S at the weekend and so I've bought a Desire HD off ebay.
Now on the Desire S I always used to turn off the fastboot option when I was running a custom ROM as there was a danger of damaging the EMMC/bricking the phone.
I noticed on my new Desire HD which is running CyanogenMOD 7 that there is no option to fastboot on the menu's.
I'm just checking before I pull the battery as I don't want to brick a brand new phone. So I take it they have sorted out the EMMC problems with the later versions of the Desire HD?
Am I OK to remove the battery when I feel like it?

Fastboot only works in sense roms....ur phone came preloaded with cm7 which means the fastboot will be off as it doesnt work in any roms other than sense
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda premium

The fastboot option as referred to in sense ROMs refer to a sort of hibernation feature by HTC to achieve a quicker boot time.
However the true fastboot is protocol used to update the flash filesystem in Android devices from a host over USB. It allows flashing of unsigned partition images (http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Fastboot). It can be accessed by holding the vol down button and pressing the power button which takes you to the bootloader. You can then choose the fastboot option.
As long as your not using the fastboot option or installing a ROM etc it should be fine to remove your battery at any time.

[Q] Bricked htc desire

Hi all,
I'll give a quick outline here then go into more detail below if you need it. i've tried things suggested in the other bricked htc threads but none seem to work.
I've basically follwed the root guide at droiden, made a gold card and rooted my htc desire phone which went ok. problem was i then installed the suggested rom in the tutorial which was for an amoled screen but i 've got an slcd screen (i'm thick).
The upshot is my htc desire will only start up sometimes and when it does just goes to a loading screen with a bright colourful x then switches off. holding volume down and power or back and power doesn't bring up the boot menu or fast boot. i've tried to flash from one of the ruu.exe files but it just keeps saying my phone has less than 30% charge (it doesn't) and quits the ruu. Is there any way to recover my phone via another method? I've got the coldcard used to root the phone.
Many thanks
Detailed description
i've basically followed the guide to root here at droiden
and installed the rom here de frost rom it suggests.
rooted fine then i flashed the rom (the de_frost one suggested in the tutorial) - got stuck on a colourful X screen and now won't turn on. it'll only turn on if i connect to a pc and open unrevoked but then it just boots to the colourful x screen until it goes off and then i'm back to the begining.
going off that other thread it sounds like i've used the amoled rom when i've not got an amoled screen.
to make matters worse i've followed these two steps here in other threads on here which suggested a new ota or ruu. ota wais a broken link and with ruu.exe i get an error saying my battery is below 30% (it's not) and so it won't go any further.
are there any other options available to me to restore my phone bearing in mind that volume down and power doesn't bring up the boot screen (just white htc screen then colourful X screen) so i can't even do a hard reset that way. Not bothered about wiping the phone's memory just want to get it back so i can start from scratch with the right rom. i have the gold card used to root the phone.
any help appreciated - thanks.

Needs to be a gold card if your phone is network branded
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
ok i did it and it worked first time - it let me get to the boot screen but then after it rebooted it just won't switch on at all now.
any ideas?
Did you let it run till the phone booted?
Take the batt out for a min and pop back in and try. And also make sure you got a good charge
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
yeah it said it was rebooting but then never came back on. i'll give it a good charge and try again.
right it will now turn on everytime but won't go to the boot screen. Volume down power and back power just start it up and it sticks on the loading screen with the x for hours.

i'm not too sure. i bought the desire from ebay. it's an orange branded htc about 2/3 months old. i followed the root guide here (can't post full links as i'm a new member- just stick a www dot infront of)
droid-den.com/phone-guides/phone-guide-how-to-root-the-htc-desire-hboot-0-80
and install the radio & rom here

if it would just go to the boot menu i'd even wipe the thing and start again!

ok for some reason after 24 hours of trying it will now let me go into the boot screen
for some reason i left the room and came back and it's working.
i've no idea what has happened.
it's completely debranded and rooted with a basic rom.
can someone advise me of a good stable rom which will work with a slcd screen?
many thanks
Best Rom I find is MIUI takes a bit to get used to but you will love it if you miss the clock just download fancy widget .. for the HTC clock and weather. just Google it and get the.apk

hmmm. can't download anything from the android marketplace. just says download unsuccessful.
for any who has the same problem - think it was a schoolboy error. when it sticks on the x screen the options must be in the background. press volume down then press power and it boots.

[Q] HTC Desire doesn't start up.

Hello there, i have a htc desire... a few hours ago i`ve tried rooting it. a few seconds after flashing started, everything stopped, the screen went black, and no response what so ever since. when i plug in usb cable, the led indicating charging doesn't turn on. when i press the power button 1 single vibrate then nothing, the screen remains black. the pc does recognize it. when i type adb devices in cmd i get :
List of devices attached
HT07TPL02170 recovery
any ideas?
How long did you leave it before pulling the plug when rooting?
It should have been left for a good 5 minutes before getting worried....
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
uh... whell about 2 minutes. didn't know that i've had to let it 5 minutes, doesn't say in the tutorial...
Ok, well id suggest running the root process again until it says its successful on your pc.
No guarantees this will work tho....

i think the update.zip is not suitable for my version of htc, maybe that's why it didn't work. can u help me with a stock froyo 2.2 rom? and maybe a quick tutorial on how to flash it?
What is your current rom and is it branded.
Do you have the rom details, numbers etc..
The more info. The better.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
i don't think it's branded... my current rom, i have no idea i'm new to android.
32.43.00.32U --- does this help?
The easiest thing to do would be to run the 2.29.405.5 RUU or flash it as PB99IMG from your sdcard.
Do a search in this forum as it has been detailed a number of times.

how can flash from sd card... since my screen is black at all times. can't navigate trough quickboot on phone. tried RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_122704.exe
but i get error 170, connection problem.
my current image version is 2.09.405.8, just managed to get the rom update utility running.
i'm downloading right now the 2.29.405.5 RUU ... hope it works.
Good stuff.
The rom I mentioned is a newer version but as long as you get a working phone, that's the main thing.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
okay... i've flashed with RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
worked. everything is ok now. but... how do I root the damn thing ?
Nice one.
To root, you need to use unrevoked3.
Just follow the instructions on their website, don't miss anything and don't pull the pkug too early.
I'm assuming you used unrevoked earlier?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
i used r6-desire-root.zip
but first made an goldcard... on a 2gb sd.
I've never heard of that.
Have a look at unrevoked, it is what the majority, if not all, use on here.
Just a heads up before you continue, make sure you install htc sync and then uninstall it before continuing. This leave a couple of drivers installed that the process uses.
Then follow the instructions to the letter!
Try not to pull the plug prematurely.....
Good luck
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
unrevoked gets stuck on "waiting for bootloader" altough the bootloader is on screen...
Have you enabled usb debugging?
Have you turned off any antivirus, firewalls on your pc?
Does it say 'fastboot usb' on your phone?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
ok.. let's take it step by step.
I've uninstalled HTC Sync, but left the htc usb driver installed.
i've started unrevoked, it rebooted the desire, then hangs at waiting for bootloader
On the phone i have the white screen with the following options
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK
and a few info's on the device.
Have you installed the hboot drivers from unrevoked? There is a download link for them on their site.

[Q] FASTBOOT on Revolution 4.0 ?

Hello!
Is there any way to enable fast boot on the ROM Android Revolution 4.0?
It was a very awesome feature of Desire HD, and changing the official ROM to this one, i've lost that feature.
To access fastboot either use adb if you have experience, or turn off your HD and press power on and volume up.
I think the OP means HTC fastboot, when you switch off it just puts your DHD into hibernation.

[Q] Damaged bootloader

Hello all,
A friend has bought a DHD online and it came from Asia (CID 44)
He tried to downgrade using a guide found here but he forgot to read the small print that syas that you must not use this guide if you were in 3.xxx
SO now the phone appears to have its bootloader damaged, and I'm trying to bring it back from zombieland
When I press start nothing happens, after 5 minutes (yes 5 minutes) the phone lights, white HTC screen, no text, after 2 minutes it starts vibrating for 5 minutes and then the vibration stops and I am left with the white screen, greeen HTC, NO "quietly brillant" and nothing happens, I've left it like that all night but it does not go further.
What can i do to solve this ?
Thanks a lot
The Advanced Ace Hack Kit (AAHK) will be able to restore the correct bootloader (fingers crossed). Look up it's thread in the DHD development section.

Well i've benn asking questions in this thread but i got told that it was not an aahk problem (which is right) and that i had to solve my bootloader issue first....so here i am
Thanks
Update :
If i remove the battery, then power and hold vol down (for about 12 minutes....) I get to the bootloader screen...BUT it is inactive and locked on fastboot
I have now
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.85.0007
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.03.02.26_M
eMMC-boot
Oct 11 2010,12:47:02
HBOOT
and then the usual vol up, vol down and the choices
fastboot (on which I am stuck, vol up, vol down and power have no effect)
recovery
factory reset
simlock
image crc
I've tried to use adb shell to see if I could get the control over it but I get a "device not found".
What can I try now ?
Thanks
What I meant was that AAHK has an option to flash the correct bootloader. The bootloader you're running is an old one. If the device was shipped with Froyo then you should have the 0.85.2007 bootloader. If was shipped with Gingerbread then it should be 2.xx.xxxx bootloader. Try installing the correct bootloader using AAHK (there's an option for installing ENG S-off bootloaders for both Froyo shipped devices and GB shipped ones.
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
The trouble is that AAHK cannot access the phone since it is blocked BEFORE sense and so on, so when i run AAHK version from 12/06 I get told that phone is not plugged, or driver is not installed or USB debugging is not enabled, and of course they are all running.
So i need to unblock the phone in "manual" mode and then I'll be able to run AAHK or make a goldcard or whatever....
Thanks for the help

I can boot into fastboot menu but then it is locked. See the first post, it's like the phone is super super super slow, and when i get to the fastboot menu it does not respond at all, or maybe it would respond in a super slow way.
Assuming I have control over it what am i supposed to do when i get to fastboot menu ?
Flashing the RUU seems a good idea, but which one and where do i get it ?
Thanks a lot
You said the phone came from Asia right? Then this is the latest RUU for Asia WWE (World Wide Edition) - RUU Ace Asia WWE 3.13.707.4
It's from http://www.shipped-roms.com which has collections of RUUs for many HTC devices.
noob question - can OP flash the 1.32.405 RUU directly instead of 3.13.707?

That's essentially what caused the problem. 1.32 is froyo based. Devices shipped with gb should not install a froyo boot(eng soff) or downgrade to a froyo based ruu/pd98img. The op best bet at this moment is to flash a pd98img that's meant for his phone. I don't think the ruu will recognize the device in its current state. Will say though that it will take forever to flash bit eventually will.(I believe its 30+ min)
What I would try is put phone in boot then run
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot oem rebootRUU
Fastboot flash zip xxxxx.zip (xxxxx being the name of your pd98/rom.zip

Thanks a lot, I'm getting the RUU right now and I'll try tonight.
So I Boot with volume down, get to the main menu (after the 12 mins HTC logo time and the 5 mins vibration time) and then try to access the phone by adb shell and fastboot erase cache and so on ?
Sorry for the stupid questions but it's the first time (and hopefully the last) that I do this.
Thanks.
Correct. To take out the rom.zip from the ruu. Simply run the ruu first two steps, then go into your temp folder and look for it. The place it in your fast boot folder.
You can try just running the ruu while in hboot. Usually this works but with a damaged boot loader i believe its gets stuck at waiting for bootloader
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA
ok, thanks, I'm in the "power+vol down" boot mode, the entry is on "fastboot" (it is higlighted in color) but nothing happens when I press power (or vol up or vol down)....
What can I try ?
Thanks
. Its going to be a long process. But from that screen plug in your phone and try the fast boot commands
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA
So here's the update
I renamed the rom.zip which i extracted from the RUU to PD98IMG.zip and put iut at the root of the SD card...
I rebooted the phone (long time), got in the fastboot screen, nothing happened, tried to use the dos commands (fastboot erase cache), got the "waiting for device" message in the dos windows....
I got fed up and went for diner leaving the phone as it was, I just came back and now I have the green message "checking [PD98IMG.zip] and so it looks like it might be a good sign, I'll leave it plugged on tonight and see what happens....
More to come in 8 hours
Thanks for the help
Ok, got it running
So here's the procedure in case someone else has the same problem.
1) Find the RUU you need to go back to what you had before, in my case it was the 3.17 asia
2) Get the rom.zip from this file : start install and when it tells you that it is not possible go to your my documents/user/local files/temp folder, sort the folders by DATE so that you have the latest used on top and open it, in this folder there will be the rom.zip file
3) Rename this rom.zip file to PD98IMG.zip, send it to the root of the SD (best way is to get the SD out of the phone and do it from the computer)
4) Launch the phone in recovery (power and then hold VOL DOWN) the phone will ALWAYS try to check PD98IMG.zip and if it checks it will ask you if you want to install it, just say yes (for me it took all night)
5) when you're back to your latest rom, you can use the aahk, for me I had to run it 2 times but in the end it it S-OFF and then install whatever rom you want.
Thanks to everybody who has helped me on this
my last rom build number is 1.32.405.1 , which rom i must choose ?

[Q] Desire is broken

Hello everyone.
Ich have a big problem with my HTC Desire. My device is dead. No Bootloader, no Recovery no Start, Display is dark - nothing. I maybe think bootloader is broken. Battery is full, LED is green. Desire will not detect from computer (WinXP, 7).
The Desire has been working perfect. I installed Rom Manager from the Google Market and installed Recovery. Now Desire is dead.
Anyone knows a piece of advice?
thx Peter
sorry for my bad english
The problem was ROM manager. It is bad (and unnecessary) for the Desire unfortunately. I also did this years ago...
It should not break the bootloader though. Pull out the battery to make sure phone is completely off. Hold volume down first, then hold power button. It should boot to bootloader. If not, try back button, then power button to get to fastboot.
Then only way to recover the phone is to use an RUU. I recommend the 2.3.3 WWE GB RUU.
Flash it using the PB99IMG.zip method. Details in bortak's troubleshooting sticky at top of Q&A. Find the RUU searching shippedROMs.com. You put the PB99IMG.zip on the root of the sdcard using a card reader, then boot into bootloader mode and flash it. This will wipe all your phone data unfortunately, but sdcard contents are safe.
Once you get it running again, use revolutionary to S-OFF the device. You can then change hboot / recovery easily using fastboot commands, recommend 4EXT recovery. DO NOT use ROM manager on the Desire.
