Hello forum-goers and fellow SGN owners and enthusiasts,
Last time I read anything about a possible OTA for 4.0.4 for the Verizon LTE SGN, it was the week before St. Patty's Day weekend, and said that there might be an OTA that weekend. Well, it's past. I've been combing through the threads and I don't see a definite, or even a rumor, thread about this OTA update.
I know it's on Verizon to finally approve it. Samsung and Google have given it their approval, although we know Google is still improving it on a day-to-day basis. Has anyone heard anything new about a possible date/date-range/fiscal quarter upon which this future-well-received update might be sent out?
I appreciate any and all positive discussion, and I'm sure the mods will clean up any negative comments. I do apologize for creating another thread (if one exists), but like I said, I didn't see any recently. Thank you.

Google Android 4.0.5. Latest news indicates that it is being tested now and should be released to us sometime in April.

I appreciate the link, eFrant, but I don't want to root and unlock the bootloader. My problem, but I'm a busy guy. I'll think about it in the coming months, when I'll have more time to read up on it and tinker with it. In the meantime, my tablet serves as a dev-mod experiment test subject, but even then, I don't have the time to find a suitable ICS rom for that.

Well, you don't have to unlock your bootloader, and you don't really even have to root. All you need is to just get temporary root access to place the update in the right directory. Takes all of 2 mins. But I don't have time to guide you through it right now.

Do this:
Note: This assumes that you have the drivers for your device installed on your computer.
Step-by-step:
1) Download the attached file to your computer and unzip it in the same directory as your adb.exe file;
2) Open a command prompt in the same directory;
3) Copy the file to your device: adb push mempodroid /data/local/tmp/mempodroid
4) Copy the update to your /sdcard: adb push 659e0a8f24b4.signed-mysid-IMM30B-from-ICL53F.659e0a8f.zip /data/media/659e0a8f24b4.signed-mysid-IMM30B-from-ICL53F.659e0a8f.zip
5) Open a shell: adb shell
6) Change permission on mempodroid to allow it to run: chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/mempodroid
7) Run the exploit: ./data/local/tmp/mempodroid 0xd7f4 0xad4b sh
Note: Once you do step 7, your prompt should change from $ to #. If not, it did not work.
8) Copy the update to /cache: cat /data/media/659e0a8f24b4.signed-mysid-IMM30B-from-ICL53F.659e0a8f.zip > /cache/659e0a8f24b4.signed-mysid-IMM30B-from-ICL53F.659e0a8f.zip
9) Reboot into recovery and apply the update.

Some sort of forum admin, I'm not sure who the main people are that take care of this thing. With it releasing tomorrow at stores, and packages already in the mail.. there is no reason for it not to be up now though.
T-Mobile GSII forum will be up tomorrow!
The issue of separate forums for all GSII variants came up. We decided to split them all, like we did with original GS, because the devices are different, and it'd get confusing having, for example, a massive ROM thread with ROMs for four different devices. So, yes, tomorrow we'll add the forum.

Hi,
I'm currently running the Paradox ROM on the SGH-T989. Now, with ICS around the corner , I'd like to know how I can revert to the official ROM.
I've already taken a backup of the original stock ROM using the Clockwork Recovery mod. I'd appreciate it if someone could post an idiot's guide on upgrading to ICS from a custom ROM.
Thanks!

Most likly mistaking with the true GS2 International model
An engadget article. It's being rolled out for the normal SGS-II in Europe. I can't post the links until I'm 8 posts old , so here's the quoted text from the article.
After that March 10th mishap, Samsung reaffirmed to us that it'd deliver Android 4.0 for its GT-I9100 Galaxy S II when it was darn good and ready -- well folks, the company appears ready. It's just announced both via Facebook and Twitter that the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade that so many have lusted after is now available and will begin its rollout to users in Poland, Hungary, Sweden and Korea today, and will move onto other markets from there -- subject to carrier requirements, of course. Better yet, Samsung has affirmed that its Android 4.0 update for the Galaxy Note, Galaxy S II LTE, Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1 will follow shortly. So, if you're one of the lucky ones to receive the upgrade, let us know how it fares for you in the comments below. Otherwise, feel free to keep clicking that update button.

I'm not familiar with how long the update would take to reach Carriers though. Anyway , I'm looking for a solution on how to upgrade when the update would come.
EDIT : Oops , someone beat me to it. I was referring to the international SGS-II. I'm not sure how long it would take to reach T-mobile.
I'm sick of the same thing being covered 20 times every day.
The international Galaxy S2 has NOTHING to do with our phone. Yes the name is the same but the insides of the phone are all different. They might as well have called our phone something completely different as to not confuse people.
Nothing from the I9100 will be usable for us. Nothing. Hence, I reiterate my previous statement: We are not seeing ICS for some months to come. Sad I know.
Here's your idiot proof guide.
Sell your t989 and buy the i9100.

The real frustration with this site is that people come here looking for more information and get greeted with condescending dickishness. Those guys posting about how awful it is to have to read threads asking about the update knew fully well what this thread was when they chose to come here.
I don't see how people can be so unaware of common sense that they would be surprised that a phone called the Samsung Galaxy S II getting the ICS update might confuse people who own a phone called the Samsung Galaxy S II into thinking they are getting an update to ICS.

By looking at the history, you can tell how long it usually takes for Samsung to deliver an update for carrier phones. As far as I can remember, for the T-Mo Galaxy S, it took them about 5 months to update to 2.2 AFTER the International Galaxy S received 2.2. This was about a month after google rolled out 2.3 via Nexus S.
The reason for the delay is because every carrier wants Samsung (and other manufacturers) to ensure that their bloatware works fine on their updated versions. And no matter how good Samsung's Hardware is, their software division is freaking slow!
So good luck waiting for 4.0. My guess is that it will be out by May/June/July/August.
Sept/Oct/Nov/Dec
Ok , thanks. But the real point of this thread was on HOW to UPDATE to ICS when it would finally come. It seems like everyone missed the point here. I don't really care when the update would come, that was never stated in the thread title nor did I ask for a date in my opening post.
I was fully aware that the "When is ICS going to arrive for T-mobile??!!" has been asked a hundred times, which is why I only asked HOW to update.

Well if ICS does come for our device in about 6 months.. you can always ODIN back to stock (check allgamers stickies) and wait for an OTA update, but you might have to wait for someone to exploit root access for 4.0... sooo i would wait until a dev creates a rooted stock ROM of 4.0.

Eh , the saddest part about it is how most failed to READ the thread. It was clearly stated that help was needed on HOW to update. The question "When will the update arrive?" was never stated in the opening post.
To answer the op, there's 2 ways to do it. first is to flash back to unrooted stock and wait for the push from tmo. Instructions are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22881355
Second way is to wait for a deodexed or rooted version from a dev and just flash like a normal ROM.

Google has provided the images on their site. It is very simple to flash them to your device. No hacking required... all official methods. See the "flash" link in my post. Many of us will guide you though it if you have issues.
If that is too much "fooling around" to get "the latest and greatest", would you mind if I asked you what you are doing on a developers' site?

I guess he meant that google should provide better support for Galaxy Nexus, OTA for some and not for others makes no sense. Atleast they should provide better information. Since you see him asking here instead of an official google or an android site, then it confirms that XDA provide better answers than google and android combined.

I understand exactly what he is looking for. What I was trying to get across to him, is that it is just as easy to switch to yakju, and it comes with more benefits. No one has demonstrated any benefits to being on a non-yakju/takju build, only detriments.

Google does provide better support for the Galaxy Nexus than any other device. Can you name me a device that Google provides better support for? If the OP is asking here on a dev site, he should expect to get a dev answer, like "flash it yourself".
What you are talking about is non-yakju builds that are NOT supported by Google - they are supported by Samsung. So, if you want to get your updates once they have gone through two bureaucracies (Samsung and Google) and double the time, then stay on a non-yakju build, If you want to get them once gone through only one (Google), then flash yakju or takju, and you will get them much sooner.
i felt the same way as the OP.. until i grew some balls and flashed to yakju. hihi.

If you had a faulty device, that has nothing to do with yakju.
And besides, there have been reports that people returned their non-yakju device with yakju installed, with NO issue. On the contrary, there have been NO reports (that I have seen on XDA anyway) of anyone being denied warranty because of installing yakju (which by the way, is the factory image...).

Just because I don't dive into flashing my phone doesn't mean questions don't come up or I don't have the urge to know what's coming out or available now. Basically XDA has become my authority on cell phones even though I don't mod mine to its fullest potential.

I guess he meant that google should provide better support for Galaxy Nexus, OTA for some and not for others makes no sense. Atleast they should provide better information. Since you see him asking here instead of an official google or an android site, then it confirms that XDA provide better answers than google and android combined.

Another quick question, if someone local flashes my phone to Yakju , is there a way to not lose all my current data? ( texts, mms, data for the games and apps I'm currently using, etc)

Yes. Given you are on 4.0.2 (or 4.0.1), you can follow this step-by-step to root. Then you can install Titanium Backup, which will back up everything for you. Then follow this step-by-step to flash yakju.
It's not difficult at all -- actually quite simple. I'm sure it looks much more daunting than it actually is.
Updates are rolled out in BATCHES. Not everyone or every firmware version receives updates at the same time. That's how it is and how it's always been.

Correct, but yakju and takju will ALWAYS get updates before the other GSM builds. Case in point: only yakju and takju are on 4.0.4, and they were on 4.0.2 first.
efrant said:
What you are talking about is non-yakju builds that are NOT supported by Google - they are supported by Samsung. So, if you want to get your updates once they have gone through two bureaucracies (Samsung and Google) and double the time, then stay on a non-yakju build, If you want to get them once gone through only one (Google), then flash yakju or takju, and you will get them much sooner.

still they should make nexus in a one build GSM, one build CDMA. No point of having a nexus phone that is behind in support! Atleast they should print on the box "this product is not supported by google"
I have downloaded and installed the new 4.2 camera app on my GNex. My question is sort of simple. Where does one find instructions on how to use it? In particular, I am looking for documentation on the new "sphere" feature.

With all due respect, I don't want to wait. I am looking to this community to suggest places that Google or other knowledgeable users might have put some info on how the app works.

Are you saying that you know the information is not yet available? That is helpful. Otherwise saying "if it is not available then it is not available" is an unhelpful tautology.
I think that the 4.2 camera app is available on a few of the new tablets that just got announced. It is not unreasonable to ask if there is any info on usage or features.

So there should be documentation on something that doesn't officially exist yet? Ok.

No one cares what you want. I want a million dollars right now tax free. Is that going to happen? Hell no.
As for your "situation", you can just learn it yourself by messing around with all the options. It's not likes it's going to kill YOU if YOU do the legwork YOURSELF instead of asking us to do the work for you.

I really don't understand why you guys are all dumping on me. I asked a simple question and a link or quick suggestion would have sufficed. I clearly am capable of doing my own legwork or I would not be running a custom ROM on an unlocked phone and finding and installing an unreleased app.
I love baby pandas.

It's because of 1) your question and 2) your responses.
You're asking if anyone has a link to help about something that isn't released. When you were told there isn't such a thing yet, you sounded like a whinny little kid and said "no, I don't want to. Do it for me". How else do you think rue XDA community (who is known for not searching and asking to be spoonfed as well as dumping on said people) is going to respond?

Because you are wanting bleeding edge unreleased software. This comes at a price and that price is you are part of the first ones using it, so of course there is no documentation. It essentially is a beta, it isn't even promised to work let alone have a users guide for it yet. Maybe in a couple months someone will write a guide telling you what the buttons do.
I tried to help inform you but your general rudeness and 'whining' is making me not want to bother and apparently is having the same effect on others that are normally very helpful users here.

Have you tried it?? It's pretty self explanatory, what are your questions? Also, Google is not well known for documenting their features.
Has anybody tried searching on Google ?

Wait 12 days for what? What devices haven't been released yet? If you're talking about Nexus 4, that's not what I'm talking about, and the Nexus 4, is Jelly Bean 4.2, not 4.1.1, which is what I was talking about. If Sprint can release it, and Verizon can leak it, why can't AT&T at least leak something, even if it goes through another 2 or 3 leaks before official release.

Thought you were talking about 4.2. But either way. You're comparing carriers. Different carriers release faster than others. So to say verizon or sprint can do it doesn't really hold any significance. AT&T does there own thing. So if you're waiting on them I wouldn't hold your breath dude.
I realize that carriers release things differently, and VERIZON, didn't release there's it's a LEAK. So all I am asking is, where is the AT&T LEAK?

Why do you even need ATT leak when you can use this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956463
I have been using it for 3 days and it works flawlessly
Because I want something specifically designed for my phone, not one that's close. Also I've seen several articles on here about people having problems with the Sprint version, especially with the GPS, and having to go back to stock 4.1.1, and reset etc......... I use my GPS a lot, so don't have time and can't afford it not to be guaranteed to work. Hence wanting an AT&T leak.

By definition, a leak is, something an owner doesn't want to be made available and somehow becomes available before it's suppose to.
I wouldn't expect AT&T to volontarily "release" a leak...
They're only doing a better job than the other carriers keeping their stuff to themselves.
Of course, that's unless Sprint and Verizon intentionnaly leaked theirs...

Hahah u sound frustrated. Even when the ATT leak comes don't expect it to be 100%.
As for the Sprint leaks I understand your reluctancy to flash it. Worse case is if it didn't work flash back to what did. That's the great part about Android.
I had issue with a certain JB rom until I found Graxxixnyc port and it works flawlessly. GPS et al.
Other then that just wait for ATT to give us JB, but as task said don't hold your breath as if we get official from them by the end of this year we would be lucky.

Yes, I know it's something that the owner doesn't want out, but yet somehow all carriers seem to have them. Which was the point of this post. Never said they would "voluntarily" release it, otherwise I would have stated that implicitly. All I said was that since the OFFICIAL SPRINT release is out, and a leaked version of Verizon's SG3 software as of 10/8/2012 where is the AT&T version?

1.) You didn't even try and help. I did.
2.) You brought your personal opinion of me into a development site. Leave your emotions at the door. Your personal opinions do not belong here.
3.) Contribute or add something here or it's a waste of a post. Learn that.

I'm not sure how long you've been with AT&T, but they seem to take the longest out of all of the carriers in terms of their release times. Leaks come and go and sometimes never come. Basically it's just a waiting game dude. Patience is key when with AT&T.

Its not about trolling "dude" its about talking to people in a respectful manner. I think its silly that when a some users are a developer they feel like they can come on and talk down to people. I'll just as soon run stock cupcake 1.5 on my phone than have some one treat me like **** for asking a question. But hey you're a grown man do what you want. people sniffing your corn hole for the latest ROM has went to your head apparently.

Lol. Please grow up dude. I mentioned something along the lines that source hasn't been released yet and this is what you get from it? It was a simple error in reading it correctly. Happens every day dude. Get used to it. That's not only weird but its also taking something waaaay out of context. This is you holding a grudge for some reason or another and releasing it in a development site. So either you should keep to yourself or contribute to this community. That's what XDA is all about dude.
Thank you Task650, I realize that AT&T takes FOREVER, been with them seems like FOREVER. I know that leaks come and go, all I'm asking, is if anyone has any information about any AT&T leaks, not leaks from other carriers, that if you stand on your head, and spin, then it will work, and that if it doesn't you can always go back. I know all this, and if that is what I wanted to do I'd do it. But what I'm looking for is an AT&T leak, that way it's has the most chance of having most if not all things working properly. I am patient when waiting for things to happen, but just asking a friendly does anyone know if one is out yet, or heard anything is all.

They take longer than forever from what I've seen. Which really sucks for the user that wants to run stock official roms. There is no leak yet. You will definitely know when there is because it will be posted in the development forum and users that use touchwhiz will be all over it.

you should really be concentrating on #2 & #3. please remind yourself that this site is about development. please go to the more appropriate places like Facebook, Twitter, or start a blog if you feel the need to voice your personal opinions about me. Your observations are just that. yours. but either way they belong elsewhere. please stop polluting XDA with them. thanks.
P.S- See how every one of your posts do not include any help for the original author of this thread? That says something about you. You might want to take a look at that.
