just wondering if there are any alternative keyboards available for me to have a mess around with so far i love swype ( only available via their website) but are there others out there?
Go to google play and search for keyboard! There's loads of them on there. My personal favourite at the moment is Swiftkey which you'll find here - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.touchtype.swiftkey&hl=en

Hi Folks,
Have seen reviews recommending updating asap to 4.1 but how do you do it? i cant find Google maps in the market place..
Is there an option in the pre installed app to look for updates? Checked version info and it says 4.0
Cheers,
Mick
go to market, then downloads and see what updates are available
i'm on 4.1.1 (#4156) gmm-android-htc
its not in my downloaded list though as it was on the phone when i got it..
It was at the top of the popular free apps for me saying update available, along with the facebook app.
Easiest way is to search Google Inc on the market the inc makes all the diff, picking out googles specific applications first before broadening the terms.
Cheers,

You in Ireland or the UK?
I am in Ireland and I see no update to Maps available. And a search for google inc just show sup sky map. no maps. I think the Irish market app is different. (crap)
If you're in Ireland why don't you install the BRUT version? Gives you the same features and also Nav!

Will this work on the Desire? Also, as I understand the reason we don't have navigation in the UK version is because of some copyright/legal issues - If we install this will the Navigation actually work?
Thanks.

You have to install something else as well, but the speech doesn't work as yet on it. Didn't for me anyhow.
Make sure you have 2.1 Android otherwise Maps 4.1 won't work anyhow.
Doesn't matter now as it's out officially in version 4.1.1.
Hello all. First off, lemme just say that this forum rocks. I've been lurking around Android Forums and now I've been lurking here and you guys might just be a little bit more awesome. .
So I installed Sky Raider 2.5 Vanilla and it's working great for me. I went from stock 2.1 and it's a nice improvement, but I do have some questions. Thank you for even reading this far!
#1: Using the dialer that comes installed with SR2.5V, I see all my contacts there. I really don't think the dialer that came with my Incredible listed them. Is there anyway to have it only show calls I've made instead of listing everyone?
#2: Is installing the Social Networking pack the only way to sync Facebook photos with my phones contact list? I tried using the Android Facebook application but it didn't work.
#3: I use the latest Swype beta and whenever I reboot my phone, I can't trace the letters. I can type fine using the Swype keyboard, but whenever I try to actually trace it doesn't go through to the input field. I have to switch to the Android keyboard then back to Swype for it to work.
I could have sworn I had more, I guess the dialer question is the one that really bothers me. Thanks for reading and thanks for any answers!
1. No..not at first but as calls come in they will be there
2. Yes
3. The swype beta expired..I reccommend usind the skinned ones under themes and apps

What social networking pack are you referring too? I would like to get that facebook contact integration back to its former glory as well.

in the goodies, dude.
Re #3...
If you signed up for the Swype Beta, go to beta.swype.com and request a new beta invite email. You will need to reinstall.
for the record goodies is in the app rom manager under download rom/ihftp69

Although I prefer other keyboards on my Note 10.1, I'm sorta "stuck" with the preinstalled Samsung keyboard because of it's very decent handwriting-to-text capabilities.
Does anyone know of equally good apps which allow H-to-T, even better if it's possible to recognize handwriting from saved notes?
Any other good keyboards which have H-to-T? I've tried Swype, but it's not as good as Samsung's...
Thanks for your input!
I've been wondering this myself but I learned to love the sammy H-to-T even on AOSP roms on my Original Note I717, and having the Note 10.1 just makes this keyboard better. Now that feature you mentioned about recognizing text from notes, now that would be sexy...if you know what I mean.
Try 7notes available on Google play, you can use the inbuilt app to write notes in your handwriting and convert later or can do on the fly conversions with any app that allows keyboard entry. The recognition is the best I have seen on any app to date.
Another app you can try is notes mobile, currently only available from the Samsung app market which also allows you to take notes and convert later.

I'll take a look at 7notes, thanks! But I can't find "notes mobile" on the Samsung Apps page. Who's the maker, or if you can just send the link?
Thanks!!

Thanks! I actually found it searching the forum here! It is really good at what it does!
There are 3-4 different note taking apps out there which have something particular about them that make them special, and things that you hate. I wish someone would make one that had it all!
Thanks again!
I am using the stock google gesture keyboard and the stock google dictionary. I frequently mistype the letter "a" as the letter "s". The android dictionary seems to think that "s" is a word, though I have no idea why. I would like to remove this work from teh stock dictionary. It is not in my user dictionary, and there are plenty of instructions for how to remove words there. While a better solution would be for me to press key smore accurately, that is a topic for another day. Does anyone know how to remove erroneous words from the default android dictionary? Does any one else get the s/a problem?

Why do you have to stick to stock keyboard? Get your Swiftkey on!

I've tried swype and swiftkey. Swpe for the longest, even bought the paid version recently, but Swype always ended up getting laggy and i always had delays on the keyboard. Back to my original question though...is there something about Swiftkey that allows you to edit the stock dictionary? I thought the updated version of the android keyboard offered all the advantages of gesture typing. What is the stock android gesture typing keyboard missing that swiftkey has?
Swiftkey now has cloud storage for your user dictionary which I think is pretty nice which syncs across all of you're android devices. I just live the setup of Swiftkey and the options it gives you. All I can say is download it and try it out. And you can edit your dictionary through Swiftkey, don't know if it's the stock dictionary or their version.

That's the whole problem is that the "s" is in the stock dictionary, not the user dictionary.
