Yes I think it would work. But be sure to create a backup before doing that just in case and not only apps but developers of other roms (dont wanna name them) copy alot of things on Creed's rom. So i think its perfectly safe
Ofcourse it'll work.. that's the beauty of android and custom roms.. just pull the .apk from the source Rom.. don't extract.. and drag it to the target Rom.zip in the same location as the source..
If there diesnt exist a similar folder then create one..
And... Stop spamming the section with such FAQ sort questions

I am sure most of you haven been clicking like mad on the threads with [ROM] in front of the subject, thinking that this must be the one and only rom for your desire, just to find out that the rom is a copy of a copy of a copy of another rom ?
What I would like is that we could have a thread with the names of "original" roms.
What do you mean by this? All roms are based on either HTC's sense or a stock AOSP build.
this is why all original froyo sense rom are based on the ota update which is not a full rom..it´s only a update....so we have to thanks people like klutsh or paul to make a system dump from the update
with kind regards..Alex
edit: but the roms have differnet mod´s and some have sense and some are google like...So you have to find the one that is the best for you...and there is no best rom...all rom´s here are good...so it´s the personal feeling whats the best for you
Im not a noob with rooting and different roms and stuff. But is there anyway to take parts of roms and combine them and make a personalized custom rom with everything you want on it? like for example can i take the mms.apk from a sense 3.0 rom and put in on the CM7 rom or an ultimate droid rom?
Definitely possible, .apk's should be easy to transfer over.
This is off the top of my head, but you should be able to extract the ROM .zip file, find the .apk you want, then just put it on your SD card and run it using a file manager or terminal emulator (harder to use).
As always I would suggest you fully backup, when you're doing stuff like this it's experimental, so it's very possible the mms.apk will not play well with your current ROM and may force close. If that's the case, it may need other files to run (those files would be in the original ROM) and that would become a project that I wouldn't be able to help you with. You would then need to really, merge those two ROM's together in order to get that .apk to work.
Even so, I'm not sure on how possible it is as some manufacturers like HTC make it extremely difficult to use their app's without having an HTC Sense ROM.
Yea i tried that with root explorer and it didnt work the apk wouldnt install im now guessing thats because it was a sense app and isnt compatible with my rom. But yea i was looking into finding out how to combine roms more in depth like that. but i guess thats out of both our leagues. thanks for the help though
Take a Sense 2.1/3.0 hybrid ROM and run the Senseless script, use search to find it. See if that works for Sense 3.0 Messaging on AOSP feel

I wrote a desensitize script for SkyRaider 4 (Sense 1.0) found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13667433&postcount=8499
I have NOT tried it on a sense 2.1/3.0 rom, but it will work as long as the file names are the same. Do a nandroid backup before you try it though, just in case!

Sense MMS apks will definitely not work on CM7 because it needs dependencies from the HTC frameworks, I would try what others have suggested and try to get a Sense rom and in other words "DeSense" it by removing some of the HTC apps. You can also try running CM7 and installing a 3rd party SMS app from the Market (like GO SMS Pro) if you are not happy with the Stock Android SMS app.

ok is there a way i can desensitize the rom on my computer or i have to do it on my phone? and now my next question more into how to combine roms is say for example i like the sense 3.0 unlock screen is there anyway that i could use that as my unlock screen but then keep my ultimate droid rom the way it normally is?
Not sure about desensitizing but I do know you cannot use a sense 3.0 lockscreen on an aosp rom. Although if you're wanting a fancy lockscreen, I'd recommend MIUI, or widgetlocker (works on any rom).
Hey guys, another noob question. im currently on stock rom ulvh2 , im want to get a custom rom, but i can find for differet stocks like uvlg and stuff like that, the problem is that i cant find anywhere to download this stock rom e,g uvlg to flash on it the room, my question is does the custom rom comes with the stock rom already? it surely takes alot of space ~500mb (the wicked one).
Also what is the meaning of "ADT" and the word "Hybrid" i speaking about the wicked rom.
Final questions is what is the difference between the Tmobile original development thread and the tmobile development thread.
Im really trying to understand the stuff going here- not easy i have to say
thanks for the help!

Custom ROMs like the ones you are talking about are stock with modifications, so yes, it is the "full" package.

I'm new to Android (came from BlackBerry), but hybrid means exactly what you would think. It's a cross between multiple packages. Some good things taken from each one.
Android Development Tools (ADT) is a plugin for the Eclipse IDE that is designed to give you a powerful, integrated environment in which to build Android applications.
ADT extends the capabilities of Eclipse to let you quickly set up new Android projects, create an application UI, add packages based on the Android Framework API, debug your applications using the Android SDK tools, and even export signed (or unsigned) .apk files in order to distribute your application.

Development: not original works. Modified stock roms, modems, etc.
Original Development: original works. CyanogenMod, MIUI, the AOKP builds, etc.
While everyone's developing forward into JB 4.2, I want to go slowly;
I've learnt from the HTC Desire that new may not always be the best; Back then GB was the thing and everyone had some 2.3.7 ROMs...
So, I'm wondering if CM7 can be ported onto our Xperias...?
It may not be useful, but there are some old ways of making a GB phone beat the shiz out of ICS+

It would require a lot of work but it's doable I guess? FXP picked up the S from cm9 onwards so I guess CM7 was seen as unnecessary
Well then, any idea how we can convince them it IS necessary?
Maybe a petition?
Y not go all out and rip donut off an X10i?
Sent from my Jellybean Xperia S
A good idea, but GB was faster...
Seriously, though, why not? The device HAD official GB, why wouldn't we have CM7?
That opens a whole new world for ROMs; on one hand 4+, and on the other 2.3...

Better still cupcake ? No but seriously, The FXP team are focused on 4.X onwards for the S, you could try asking other devs if they're interested or try for yourself? I think XDA university has a guide about how to compile CM for your phone
Here it is: http://xda-university.com/as-a-developer/porting-aosp-roms-using-source-code
Cool!
Just one problem; I don't have Ubuntu... Backtrack is pretty close (I have it), but I can't instal some of the programs the tutorial demands...
I've already tried porting CWM using XDAU, but failed miserably due to that...
I'll see if I can install Ubuntu in the linux partition (instead of backtrack) (I dual boot Windows XP and Backtrack), and I'll try downloading again...
Okay, so I've found a bunch of porting guides for all sorts of phones and Android versions, but they all require either an existing GB tree in GitHub or a GB zip ROM...
I have neither, but what I do have is the stock GB .ftf... But that can't help much, since, well, it's not zip...
I CAN extract it, but what next? Extract further?

Extract ftf using winrar
U can extract the system dump too from ftf
Okay, I may as well get a title here; NOOB ALERT ...
What's the system dump? I've heard it already a million times, but I never got the answer... It said somewhere that it has to do something with the bootloader, but I'm not sure...
Anyways, once I build me a GB ROM (I'm using this; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183832), I just copy and paste stuff (like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598713)?
Though I'll probably get to an issue with the camera and other things, since they're not exactly AOSP...?
This thread might as well be renamed to 'Tutorial' if I keep 'developing' like this xD
Hey there...
I read trough the forum but havn't found anything that matches this topic... so i hope u can help me.
I just wanted to know how to turn an ARC/S rom into a PRO rom.
When i look at some multi-device roms, the differences between the devices are very small...
And i already managed to get an ACR/S rom boot and some kind of working on the Pro...
only thing doesn't work: the keyboard and the touchscreen (touch is working but not properly).
so: how do i make an almost "clean" port from an ARC/S Rom to my Pro?
PS: i hope my english is good enough to understand my problem xD
how to port a rom
Thank you... but that was not, what i wanted...
I know how to port roms...
i just wanted to know which files (modules etc) i have to copy/replace to make a pro rom out of an arc rom...
there must be a way, cause many roms are build for arc/s and then just some files are added so it becomes a pro rom...
The way you showed me means, that i already have a base rom which is working. But i want to use the arc rom itself.
thank you...

you can just PM some devs that posted a rom like that
What Firmware Rom?
ICS/GB?JB

Then you should know which files you need, as you don't, perhaps some more reading of what's already available will help.
i already had some success.
but there is one thing, that is getting on my nerves... even if almost everything seems to work two things dont...
the mms.apk is crashing every time i try to launch it and the hardware keyboard isn't recognized correct.
means the SW-keyboard doesnt pop up because the system always thinks, the keyboard is out but is rotating the sreen correctly as i move the phone.
the problem with the keyboard is already known from the Slim Bean 3.10 Pro Rom. and i dont know where to find the correct things to change that.
