Six methods and three forums. Several different gold cards. No error messages and I am at my wits' end. It is unfortunately the updated, pain-in-the... firmware, and we tried the method on this forum for that, too. No dice. And this is the second identical phone we've tried (had to replace due to sim card failure).
Anyone have ideas as to what we're missing? Because I refuse to believe that the phone just won't root. Has anyone else run into this with the slide?
Thanks.
Did you update to the official 2.2.1?
Since it's a new phone (had to get it replaced) it was auto-updated to it, yeah :/
Try super one click and get a temp or shell root first then you can run the exploit. Also you can now get s-off via htcdev web site witch will make root a breeze. This is by far the hardest phone I've ever rooted!! Good luck
Well, if you upgraded, then you can't S-OFF, however, you can unlock your bootloader at http://htcdev.com/bootloader

Read on the help page prior to rooting so remembered it being mentioned:
The program says “Error: failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?”
If you're on EVO 4G, we've seen this happen with some applications from the market that cause incompatibilities; try uninstalling other apps. If you're on Wildfire, then the message is as it suggests; your firmware is in fact too new, and has the vulnerability that we use to get root patched. Sorry.

Bet it applies to Dinc's also
I got that three times today. Then I realized I had it mounted as disk drive. Make sure you have it set to charge only. Then it should work. I was on the latest OTA from the November RUU with S-ON from taking it to VZW. My warranty was expired anyway, so I just rerooted. Long story. So the latest Unrevoked does root the newest firmware. For now. Won't be surprised if the Gingerbread update patches it.
What is up…Question: My Samsung Genex is seems to be unlocked, as I unlocked it with the toolkit and the visual unlock appears during the Google boot. However, Superuser, Busybox and Rom Manager do not recognize the device as unlocked.
With no luck, I have re-rooted the device via toolkit several times.
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks All!
i had this problem just a few days ago, or a similar one. initially i rooted my phone. then i got the OTA update since i was still stock. i accepted the update but never checked root until later and i had lost root. but for whatever reason i could not get back root no matter how much i tried.
i used the superboot one click method, over and over and over, but it kept failing. then one time if finally just worked and rooted. i didnt do anything different. so that's all the experience i can help you with...
Solved. Thanks to the fine folks that created the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit!
how? please explain , im having the same problem
Unfortunately, it seems that the VZW M7 has been put on the back burner due to not being very easy to root, s-off and unlock. I must ask though, why hasn't anyone said anything yet? I understand that Sunshine probably works, but Im out of work and do not have $25 to potentially waste (and potentially brick my phone because its not proven working for 4.4.3 yet). I could live with the phone being stock, but I figured I would ask if there was any other way for devices that have been updated to 4.4.3 to get root at least. I also just ordered a whole new front assembly for my phone and figured that I might as well find a root method at the same time.

The guys who made the s-off publicly are the same ones that made sunshine. I dont see them releasing a free version of sunshine. Sunshine is safe, enough, to run without bricking if you follow the steps carefully and only attempt it when you have a full battery.
So I have been out of the loop for a while but I am sending my phone into HTC to get the pink/purple camera fixed. I suspect they will be fully updating the phone before returning it to me. What methods are still viable for root, s-off, and unlock? I have been searching the forums and honestly its just a lot of information to process.
Thanks ahead of time

If they update your phone to the latest OTA, the only exploit option is Sunshine by Jcase at http://theroot.ninja/
Edit:
Sunshine was updated to work with the latest OTA.
Hi everyone. Happy New Year.
Today morning, I told my wife she can't unlock my phone, and so she tries unlocking the pattern many times, and then all of sudden the phone auto factory reset.
I have a unrooted verizon VS98535B LG G3 phone.
I managed to recover the sd card files through my pc, but i can't recover the one in the droid phone. Tried many software and they can't seem to detect the phone. I think it must be because there isn't a drive letter in the PC for it to read.
So, i have a couple of questions before i root.
1. What software should i use to root once to recover files and then unroot it?
2. The reason i would want it unroot is so that i could receive the OTA updates later on.
3. I would also want to sell my phone in the future.
4. What recover software works best for internal memory too?
Thanks!

I tried stump & towelroot, it did not work for me. Am going to try ioroot next. Cross finger.
It seems that ioroot cannot find matching phone model.
and when it goes into the stock recovery mode, there's a sleeping android with exclamation mark saying no command.
Tried LG One Click Root, and it got stuck at 90% with my phone showing 0%. Sigh.

any ideas ?
My sister has pretty uncommon G4s variant known as H736. It comes preinstalled with Marshmallow.
She asked me to root it, so she could move apps to SD card. I never rooted any LG, but I tried.
First, I checked for bootloader unlock on LG website. If it would give me fastboot code, that would be 5 minutes of work. But it's unsupported... So I need to work with locked bootloader.
Second, I looked around XDA and found root method for H735 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/lg-g4s-world-root-lg-devices-t3231759). Because it's almost identical with H736, I tried it. But it didn't work - I did read that it's only compatible with Android 5.1.1 and is broken after upgrade to 6. But H736 comes with 6 preinstalled so... I'm just afraid of installing software from one phone onto another.
Third thing I tried - low effort root (https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4...t-tmo-vzw-intl-variants-soon-root-lg-t3164765). After reflashing rooted system, phone was stuck on LG logo and red LED turned on. Nothing happened in few hours, so I reflashed original system.
I also tried flashing Magisk-patched boot, but it ended the same way.
So is there any way to root this phone? Maybe some exploit, or some way to workaround my issues with low effort root? I don't want to mess with King/Kingo thingies, cause it's known to steal things like IMEI...
