Kies air - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Kies is not work for me i typed the url and it will not load any help would be appreciated.

It does not work with the Epic. You need to use Odin. To start off, read this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1564866, then search the forums for ODIN to download http://forums.androidcentral.com/ep...68-how-factory-restore-fix-bricked-phone.html. Just remember to READ carefully the how to instructions so you're not back here posting "help! I bricked my phone!".
OOOPS! my Bad. Different Kies.

Nonono he's talking about "Kies Air" not "Kies"
Kies air is one of them remote-control-phone doohicky's that you put an ip address on your pc and you can't control your phone through your pc and move files and **** over wifi.
Kies is to flash firmware

Rooting help

First post here been browsing xda for a couple years but I just got my phone and noticed flashing and rooting are completely different from my EVO I'm on EL29 could someone direct me to how to root and or even flash a custom rom on my phone I tried this zergling thing and it didn't work out very well could do without flaming or immaturity thanks in advance!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Good starting point would be installing stock rooted rom in to your new phone.
Also, the easiest and convenient way would be following sfhub's one click odin method. Sfhub is very responsive to any user's problem or issue.
Search the threads under his name and follow the guide from there. Most recent rom is fc22 and there' s one thread available under his name.

You could try to mobile Odin clockwork mod then flash the root .zip file.. I just borrowed a friends pc to root.. in theory you are good to go after that..
I've never used it but in theory it should work
Mobile Odin is available on play store and the root zip is floating around here.. let me know if u need a link for it

My comp is a mac so I'm basically screwed 99% of the tIme.. I threw Odin, the samsung drIvers, and the cwm .tar on a jump drive and did it quick at a buddy's who has a pc.. then just flash the root zip and I was off and running.. I stayed stock for a day tho (shamelessly pats self on back)

you could also have used a virtual machine or bootcamp or whatever else. as for OP, no at this point there is no way to root without a PC. Just find a friend that has one, or an internet cafe or something.

[SOLVED!!] Accidentally flashed GT-i9100 bootloader...

Like an IDIOT I accidentally Odin'd the international (GT-i9100) bootloader over the stock/rooted FH13. The phone works but in download mode Odin does not recognize. I've tried everything I could read others have tried (drivers, etc) but no joy. Does anyone have any suggestions or am I out of the Odin business permanently?
Thanks.
I remember hearing of someone else doing this before as well and I think I remember the only thing they could do was send it off to have the flash reprogrammed via jtag. My suggestion is find a rom you like. Flash it and stay put. Can't risk a soft brick.

If I recall correctly times_infinity posted how to flash the bootloader using adb / terminal, but don't quote me on that.

Doesn't the international boot loader make the USB port on our phone not work anymore? Which is why when you go to Odin mode, a computer won't recognize it? That's what I remember

Even if usb wasn't working you should be able to copy the bootloader into the phone and run a terminal emulator to run the command from the phone. But there is a how to specifically for this issue somewhere.

I'd love to but have no idea how to. Remember I'm the idiot that installed the wrong bootloader! I was even able to restore my nandroid but that didn't change the bootloader version.

Ok try this. If your computer can see the phone booted up there its no reason why download shouldn't see it. Uninstall your drivers. Download the drivers from Samsung again. Install them. Put your phone in download mode. Connect to pc. Let drivers get loaded completely. Unplug phone from pc. Plug phone back to pc. Open Odin. See if it gives you a com port. Report back the result.

Thanks. I've tried this but when I'm in download mode my phone is not recognized at all (by neither the computer nor Odin).
I was mistake this was about the kernel, not the boot loader. Regardless here's the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29843206&postcount=23
Then you might be out of luck. I am not sure you can fix it without Odin. Here is a bootloader if you get Odin working. If you didn't try all of the steps I posted please do it again. Also switch cables even though it works for other functions.

Thanks. Yes, I found that. I've been reading about this all day and I think I can safely say that I am not going to be able to undo this without sending my phone for the Jtag. Luckily My phone still operates normally, I just won't be able to flash anything by Odin and when my phone boots it says it's a GT-i9100. I did find a good thread about this for anyone else in the same boat:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816931&highlight=wrong+bootloader
In the end, this is what I get for getting careless. Totally my fault.
Wouldn't flashing the whole thing with Mobile ODIN work?
I mean a whole .tar ROM

[ROOT][ICS][FH13] Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hey guys,
I'm here to make a nice and clean write up of how to Root your Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch on Android 4.0.4 FH13. Before any flaming begins, I know there are tutorials already out there as well as videos by the famous QBKing77, however, I find it easier to learn something or to do something when the steps are written out nice and neatly for me. So I will do the same for you BTW, I will attach QBKing77's video below.
DISCLAIMER: I am in no way responsible for damage caused to your phone during this process or after! You are voiding your warranty and are Flashing/Rooting at your own risk! If you PM me saying your phone is bricked and expect me to do something about it..I will kindly laugh and move on!
PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE FLASHING ANYTHING!!: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525495
Also here are instructions on the Repo on how to gain Root access without flashing the full ROM(Thanks rwilco12): http://rwilco12.androidfilehost.com/HowToRoot.html
Before we begin this process you must assure your Epic's battery is at least 50% charged and that you have your devices Drivers installed(If you are running Windows 7, Windows may automatically search for and download the drivers when you plug it in).
Now click on the link below. Doing so will bring you to another website made by much famous Rwilco12. Thanks to him, we have this method. Now click on the SPH-D710FH13_CL663858_ROOTED_NODATA_OC.EXE and it will begin downloading. Once downloaded, simply make a folder called "EP4GT ROOT"(Name it whatever you want) for example...after you have created a folder and named it, extract the SPH-D710FH13_CL663858_ROOTED_NODATA_OC.EXE to that folder. Once its finished, open the folder...you will see Odin, click on the Odin icon. Once Odin is open, the rest is quite simple. Follow the below steps:
PLEASE MAKE A BACKUP OF ALL YOUR DATA!!!!!!! YOU WILL LOSE ALL DATA IN THIS PROCESS!!!
1) PUT YOUR EPIC TOUCH IN DOWNLOAD MODE(TO DO THIS POWER OFF YOUR PHONE AND PRESS AND HOLD POWER BUTTON AND VOLUME DOWN
2) NOW PLUG YOUR PHONE INTO YOUR PC VIA USB
4) ODIN SHOULD RECOGNIZE YOUR DEVICE BY DISPLAYING "COM" AND SOME NUMBER IN A YELLOW BOX. IF YOU SEE THIS, YOU'RE GOOD, IF NOT, TRY A DIFFERENT CABLE OR RE-INSTALL DRIVERS
5) JUST PRESS START!
6) PLEASE BE PATIENT ABOUT IT, THIS PROCESS MAY TAKE A FEW MINUTES.
7) WHEN ODIN IS DONE, IT WILL REBOOT YOUR PHONE ON ITS OWN.
8) CONGRATS! YOUR PHONE IS ROOTED!
If this written tutorial helped you, please hit that thanks button!

QBKING77 VIDEO:
To install a Custom Recovery, please use the below links and choose the Recovery of your choice.
1) Download the Recovery of your choice from the links below.
2) Open Odin again and click the PDA box and insert the recovery .tar
3) Put your phone into Download Mode and then connect to PC via MicroUSB Cable
5) When you see the YELLOW box that says COM, press start!
6) When it says PASS, you're all set and ready to FLASH some roms!!
Agats custom kernel/recovery:http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1767421(.tar file)
Kuban kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1826190 (.tar file)
ODIN 3.07 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1778755
Also OP The FI27 OTA is available. Same steps as FH13 to root. found here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1903252
The reason for having to do this is because Samsung made it such a way that the Custom Recovery is "baked" into the Kernel, so when we root this device, in order to get a custom recovery, you need to also install a custom kernel...via Odin
Was waiting for this! Thanks.

-noob question- Is it possible to root/flash roms with out a computer?

Sorry if this is covered somewhere else, I searched but did not find anything. I might be just searching the wrong topic or lack an understanding of these processes in general (lol, which I am sure I do anyway). So I have rooted and flashed custom rom's on other phones but always with the help of these amazingly easy to use how to threads and programs via a computer. Well I find myself in a situation with a kindle nook, Ipad, gs2 and my gs3 but no avaialable computer handy. I was wondering if any downloads have this ability to root/flash with out the aid of the comouter. Any help here is appreciated even if it is to just tell me this is a silly question, but hey if I didn't ask I wouldn't know and you all have been so much help in the past! Thank you

Ya I'll rephrase it since it is untrue, wasn't sure what I read in the past.
Was just thinking bout it and the only issue I could think if is if you try to use everroot and root66. But I'm pretty sure chainfire thought of that and coded MO accordingly. Never tried doing that though.
