Keyboard Lag - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The Galaxy Nexus is my first Nexus and out of all the Android devices I had it is my favorite. For the most part I have no complaints. But from time to time when typing my keyboard lags behind. Sometimes really bad. I don't know if its something I have downloaded or not. I am unlocked/rooted but using stock 4.02.
I know without doubt there's no way at all I should have to overclock my device to get it to not lag while typing. Or switch to another ROM. I'm just wondering if its just my device or do others running stock 4.02 sometimes have lag while typing.

It's a known issue. The only time it happens to me is if I type in landscape. Hopefully it will be fixed in an upcoming version.

Go to Settings > Language & Input > uncheck "Spelling Corrections" at the top. No more lag . Also, you will still have spell checking enabled.

Try using swype. It's AH-Mazing, and free. Or even SwiftKeyX

Thanks everyone for the info. You gave a couple good ideas I look forward to trying.
The good way outweighs the bad with this device without doubt.

This is resolved in 4.0.3+

Recent apps chooses wrong app

This happens to me maybe one in 10-20 times I use the task switcher soft key. I press the key, press the task I wish to switch to, and another task launches instead. It's always one that is in the switcher, sometimes a very recent one, like 3rd up the list, but sometimes it's from a while ago, like 10 up the list. Had this issue on multiple roms and kernels.
Anyone else?

I'm seriously the only one, or is this already discussed somewhere?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I haven't seen this discussed before which probably means it isn't a common issue. Have you tried asking in the thread of whatever rom you are using ?

I don't know if you're the only one, but its certainly never happened to me. Always opens the app I touch. I'm going to guess if you're not the only one you're definitely one of a rare few, as I've never seen anyone else state such a problem.

Happens to my on AOKP JB Build 4. Either that or it doesn't switch the app (although the app switcher goes away). Usually happens with YouTube though, whether I'm switching from/to YouTube.
I'm on affinity right now, but it's also happened to me on liquid smooth. I will ask in appropriate thread, just wanted to see if it was known or not.

I've had it happen on both my N7 and Gnex. Both running different ROMs

It happens to me. I always thought it was because I wasn't allowing enough time for the task switcher list to "refresh". Ok, so lets say you click task switch button.. back out... then open an app... now tap task switch and select one of the apps really quickly - what happens is that it chooses the wrong one because it hasn't had a chance to refresh. It's like the graphical front end is different than the touch event for a split second before it refreshes the list of recent apps.
What I usually do is wait a second or two before choosing the app and this seems to have solved this problem for me... but it seems that the device shouldn't show anything until everything is completely refreshed. I seem to think this is where they were allowed to make the recent apps list open faster than it did in ICS. ICS opened up a refreshed list but JB opens faster and the list isn't totally refreshed behind the scenes.
That's a good observation. I started waiting a second or two before switching, and now it works good. I noticed I have to wait longer if my phone is lagging a bit or I have a few heavy apps running. Wish it would just work but oh well.

Just like to add, I have the same problem... I'll try the patience .
There is a pretty good article explaining that behaviour on AndroidPolice.
(at least for those instances where it is not caused by some weird lag that some of you described)
Happens to me all of the time, I just recently started giving it a second before giving it a nice strong touch. 4.2 issue I assume?
This problem happens to me as well. I'm running Android 4.1.2 on a Motorola D3

Is your Google+ app as laggy as mine?

After updating to the newest version of Google+ (v. 3.2.0) from Google Play I've noticed about 0,5 sec lagg when scrolling up and down through the threads. Browsing through this app in not buttery smooth for sure. I am using stock Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4.1.1 Jelly Bean yakju version. I even reverted back my phone to factory settings to see if it helps - no change.
Do you guys experience the same problem. Any suggestions?
Same here on stock 4.1.2 with a relatively small set of apps. Not as much as laggy but choppy is how I would describe it

I enabled gpu rendering in developer settings but it didn't help at all.
I think it must be application issue itself and we need to wait for solid upgrade. I personally think that I am only pemanent beta test mouse for Google Inc.
Lag has gotten bad enough for me that I've stop using it. Results used to be near instant and now 8 secs min.

Laggy as hell and since the latest update, it isn't displaying the "nearby" post appropriately.
Some users reported same problem on iOS either.

Keyboard Stutter

Anyone else experincing the keyboard stutter when trying to type fast. Even after adding android keyboard from 4.2 it still feels sluggish. Not at all as sprinty as on my GS3. Almost seems as if typing slows the whole system down.

Lowering the vibration setting seems to help as well. Interesting.

Weird. I'm using the stock LG keyboard and haven't had any slowdown. I'm planning on trying the 4.2 keyboard and maybe Swype beta soon.

Yeah let me know. Its real random, I had this problem with swiftkey on my GS3 ... 4.2 keyboard is working the best. Have vibration set at 20 and disabled lg spell checker. It actually seems to be improving a tad the more I type. Has me baffled.

Moved to Q & A section.

I had the same problems. The firmware update fixed my problem quite well. Keyboard is very fluent and smooth now.

Nope, works fine for me.
Nope. Not very. Just a bit laggy.
I see that UI on 4.2 is not so fast as it was on 4.1.2, but some apps (e.g. chrome) works a bit faster.
So, yep - I'm happy with the update.

People who aren't having speed issues: Can you test a couple of scenarios I've noticed in particular?
1) In the new gmail: tap on the account switching area at the top. This loads far slower for me with the new app
2) Put your phone to sleep or wake it up. Sleep/wake seems quite a bit less responsive in 4.2 on both of the stock phones I've tested.

Disable all animations in developers options and screen off animation will be less noticeable.

i made i wipe cache and now is working fine. thanks a lot
No. 4.2 is just as fast as 4.1.2 on my GNex... which was fast whether I use the stock UI or Apex Launcher. Granted there is an initial sluggishness during the initial boot from services loading in the background... but after that my GNex is smooth and fast.
Those of you experiencing slow speeds: Try flashing the factory image from Google. I had one app that didn't work properly and a flash to factory stock and re-root fixed the problem. It's possible you have an app running in the background eating up resources too.
I understand these threads and posts must be annoying to those who aren't having issues, but to people like me, who OTAed a bone stock phone and are left with a less-than-satisfactory experience, it is equally frustrating. Especially considering how many improvements were made with 4.1-4.1.2, which have now been rendered moot.
I guess my only recourse is to wipe and flash stock, but because I'm not rooted and don't have any backups, it'll be fun to rebuild my phone.

Turn off that live wallpaper! JK hopefully that isnt the case...
Each Android iteration on the GN has gotten smoother for me. 4.2 is pretty amazing out of the box, much like 4.1 was when compared to 4.0.3/.4. The GN is definitely not lacking when it comes to having what it takes for 4.2.
4.2 is really, really fast. When they fix camera rotation and recent apps, it will be perfect. It killed my urge for N4. Now I can easily wait for one more year... Good job Google.

[Q] Auto correct no longer works after jb update

I'm just curious as to how many people are having auto correct issues since the jb release? It doesn't work at all. It shows suggestions to my words but hitting space bar no longer automatically inputs the word.

Had to resort to SwiftKey for a keyboard with a working auto correct. Garbage that I may have to spend some money for a working keyboard because of a bug but we'll see when the trial is over
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda app-developers app
Having the same problem. Think I'll either revert back to ICS or start looking into custom ROM's.
Disappointing.
Surprisingly SwiftKey keyboard has an amazing auto correct, comparable if not better than the stock keyboard. Not sure how long the trial period is but I will end up buying it if I have to. Give it a try before spending time flashing or reverting to ics.

You are going to leave JB or flash custom roms because the sammy autocorrect doesn't work? Try out a few keyboard and you may like those rather than using the terrible sammy keyboard. AOSP 4.2 is pretty nice. free in the play store or you can get the actual APK and also have the swype gestures.
