This happens to me maybe one in 10-20 times I use the task switcher soft key. I press the key, press the task I wish to switch to, and another task launches instead. It's always one that is in the switcher, sometimes a very recent one, like 3rd up the list, but sometimes it's from a while ago, like 10 up the list. Had this issue on multiple roms and kernels.
Anyone else?

I'm seriously the only one, or is this already discussed somewhere?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I haven't seen this discussed before which probably means it isn't a common issue. Have you tried asking in the thread of whatever rom you are using ?

I don't know if you're the only one, but its certainly never happened to me. Always opens the app I touch. I'm going to guess if you're not the only one you're definitely one of a rare few, as I've never seen anyone else state such a problem.

Happens to my on AOKP JB Build 4. Either that or it doesn't switch the app (although the app switcher goes away). Usually happens with YouTube though, whether I'm switching from/to YouTube.
I'm on affinity right now, but it's also happened to me on liquid smooth. I will ask in appropriate thread, just wanted to see if it was known or not.

I've had it happen on both my N7 and Gnex. Both running different ROMs

It happens to me. I always thought it was because I wasn't allowing enough time for the task switcher list to "refresh". Ok, so lets say you click task switch button.. back out... then open an app... now tap task switch and select one of the apps really quickly - what happens is that it chooses the wrong one because it hasn't had a chance to refresh. It's like the graphical front end is different than the touch event for a split second before it refreshes the list of recent apps.
What I usually do is wait a second or two before choosing the app and this seems to have solved this problem for me... but it seems that the device shouldn't show anything until everything is completely refreshed. I seem to think this is where they were allowed to make the recent apps list open faster than it did in ICS. ICS opened up a refreshed list but JB opens faster and the list isn't totally refreshed behind the scenes.
That's a good observation. I started waiting a second or two before switching, and now it works good. I noticed I have to wait longer if my phone is lagging a bit or I have a few heavy apps running. Wish it would just work but oh well.

Just like to add, I have the same problem... I'll try the patience .
There is a pretty good article explaining that behaviour on AndroidPolice.
(at least for those instances where it is not caused by some weird lag that some of you described)
Happens to me all of the time, I just recently started giving it a second before giving it a nice strong touch. 4.2 issue I assume?
This problem happens to me as well. I'm running Android 4.1.2 on a Motorola D3

I've been using a CM 7 highly build for a week now and its been going great. However there are a few problems I hope you guys can help solve.
When I'm in an app, maybe sms or android market and I hit home, there is a long delay before I see the homescreen.
In some cases it can take up to 5 secs. It doesn't always do this but it usually does when I have been in an app for a while.
Another issue I have is the phone behaves oddly. It will forget what ringtone I've assigned and when the alarm goes off sometimes nothing will appear on screen.
But my main issue is the home screen lag. Any ideas?

I've found the default launcher with CW7 to lag (without heavy tweaking); I gave up on it a long time ago and use LauncherPro, which I find to be quicker. Try using a different launcher, if you're not sold on CM7s default.

Thank you. Just what I needed. So far the slowdown is gone and so is the lockscreen lag I experienced. Cheers.

I've always had that problem with adw. It's just not fast enough. Launcher pros is way smoother.

My new Note 2 will not remember default apps. For example, if I install a home screen replacement, every time I hit the home button it asks me to select which to use. Every time I click on a link it asks "Complete action using" with a list off all usable apps. Even when I select always after picking the app. It's done it on 2 different roms. I'm on Jedi-x3.1 atm.
Anybody have any suggestions? It's very annoying.
My first instinct would be to clear cache but I'm new to all this stuff so I may not even be close to right.

I'm thinking it would make more sense to ask in the rom thread if you're not running stock.
Sent from my Inspire 4G
I get that on media files. Modded 7501 rom.
When these ROMs first came out the buttons were reversed. Try hitting the other button. This has been fixed, as far as I know

I am totally stock and I am having the same issue.

Probably not much use to anybody else with this problem but I've managed to make it stop by flashing a different ROM.
Hey everyone,
I'm running 01/06/13 CM10.1 and have been having an odd issue. Its been occurring since flashing 4.2.1 so it may be a 4.2.1 issue...
I'm running a d2att, twrp 2.3.3.1, cm10.1 i747.
Occasionally, probably twice a day, for an unknown reason, my hardware keys act like they are being held in instead of a regular single touch when pressed. This is causing Recent App List to pop up on a single touch of the home key and Google Voice to come up when single pressing the menu key.
Thinking this was an issue with CM10.1 I disabled hardware key shortcuts in the CM settings but I am still having issues (due to the default mapping).
Only temporary solution is a reboot, but it just happens again a few hours later.
Is anyone else having this issue? Is this a known issue? ...and are there any fixes? Thanks!

You should probably try another rom (make a nandroid so you can go back easily and quickly) just to see if it is hardware or software. That is what I would do, it is a hassle though I know.
I'll give it a try. kinda wanted to try slim bean anyway. I'll report back and let everyone know how it goes after a couple days =)

hey just saw this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085171(10.1 known issues) remembered seeing your thread about this issue.
Your problem is one of 10.1's issues, so it is most likely software.
Thanks for finding that!! =) Now I won't be left wondering if its my phone while I test new ROMs =) I decided to flash Tasks AOKP and am very happy. As of today in call volume and speaker distortion were fixed. I think I'll stay on this one a while. Just wish it had lock screen shortcuts. =p

Seemingly out of nowhere my girlfriends S3 running a nightly of CM10.1 is acting like you're long pressing when you tap in Chrome or Maps for example. Yet texting is fine, she can type normally, dial normally. It wasn't doing this when I first got her up and running. I'm confused here. Wondering if anyone has run into this or knows what's going on. Otherwise I'll have to flash another nightly and cross my fingers.

Did you consider inquiring in the cm10.x Q&A thread? It's right here in the troubleshooting forum, dude
I thought maybe it would be better to have a broader set of eyes to look at the problem.

I have stock gnex on takju, since 4.2.2 I have suffered from lag all over the place, the lag could be fixed by restarting the phone but it would eventually come back.
I have only 300MB of data plan and I noticed that Facebook and facebook messenger where using about 50MB a month on the background without any user interaction and just a couple of days ago I started seeing Facebook app as the second most battery using app just behind screen on, this made me uninstall Facebook and and I instantly saw performance go up all over the place, it was night and day comparison, my phone feels like new and the buttery effect is back.
Now I installed Facebook back just to test and it indeed is the reason for my lag but this time I used greenifyed it and it fixed the lag too.
So there you go, hope this helps

Does matter. I disabled background data (as opposed to removing the app entirely) on Facebook and have noticed substantial speed improvement instantly. The only place you can do it, that I'm aware of, is from the mobile data screen when checking the apps usage.

There are two places to disable notification from Facebook on mobile.
The first would be to go into the settings by clicking on the 3 point button just right of the multitasking navigation key, then disabling notifications.
Second, by clicking on the top left corner button inside the Facebook app, then clicking on privacy settings --> notifications---> mobile push--> uncheck all
Sometimes I think Facebook deliberately tries to complicate the notification settings so as to keep pushing themselves on our faces!

Thanks for the tip, this actually helped a bit.
I've had luck with disabling auto-rotation for some reason. Caused SystemUI to lag after time. Hopefully it'll be patched in 4.3.
