[Q] Need help getting the most battery out of phone running the franco kernel.

Tomorrow is the last day to return my Galaxy Nexus but i really don't want to. But the battery life is killing me. I always keep the 4g off unless. I am downloading something.
I figured next step is adjust the kernel. I came from a Droid X so i have never played with kernels. I have setcpu installed and have a read forums but just can't grasp what to change in there that makes a difference. Like when to use interactive, conservative, ondemand and performance
If anyone can share screens of their setcpu settings and setcpu profiles that get them great battery life it would be much appreciated. I'm a visual learner lol. Or screens of the franco kernel app if i should invest in that.

As per franco himself...
SetCPU profiles not at all, they only hurt the device's performance/battery. Everything that is needed for top performance/battery it's already set by default (in my point of view of course).

Post a log from betterbatterystats (app), the battery settings windows, and cpuspy.

Franco recommended conservative last time I checked.. also how much are you getting for screen on time? If you're only on 3G you will probably only ever get around 3 hours with the stock battery.. don't make any profiles in set CPU with Franco kernel he strongly advises against that.
Also last I read he had the minimum frequency at 700mhz

Best Kernel?

So i've been reading up on some kernels. Specifically the ones where they seem to give good battery and stability. Overall it seems the Trinity is most stable, while Franco's is also about the same. However which of these two kernels do you feel that are more stable?

i've been trying many kernels for my GN and i totally agreed: in my specific case AOKP+LeanKernel+LeanKernelTweaks=absolutely the best so far!

There are many opinions about this. Some like franco's, some like Trinity and some Lean.
I tested Franco and Trinity on AOKP M3 and can't catch greate differences. I think the kernerls are all good, but the differences are quite low. Its more a placebo which kernel is the best.

Lean Kernel.
Best battery life, 4+ screen time hours every time even with all the Netflix and Music I watch and listen to.
It's a minimalistic kernel so you can probably get others which would sacrifice battery life for better performance.

Its on rootzwiki, but there's probably a reason its not here, so I won't post a link! Just Google it....IMO, trinity kernel is the best! Especially the 512 MHz gpu version! Smooth and battery life is great! But it truly depends how u use your phone, how much u put it thru. Everyone varies! The beauty of android is u have options! So go nuts and flash em all and try it out

not the best battery life for me

Franco by far. Best overall battery life, refinement and performance.

TRINITY no doubt. I tested Franco, Lean, Fugu over weeks. Apart from Benchmark all showed worse value than Trinity. Most imortant for me is battery live. I am on push exchange for 24 hours, permanent 3G and GPS, automatic update and WiFi roughly 2-3 hours per day. Besides of that approximately 30-45 calls everyday and 85% roming.
Bettry shows in the evening 40%+. Scaling Governor recently changed from OnDemand to HotPlug. Idle Min CPU 350MHz and Max CPU set t 1200MHz.
Warmly recomend to taste.

I have to say, I've flashed a lot if custom kernels in my Android days. Right now, I'm really loving this kernel by Faux123.

The kernel that comes with AOKP suits me fine. Tried Franco for a while but seems like battery drained faster..

I have been using Manhatten IC ROM since I got my Nexus, using Lean Kernel. Has been working fine for me. But I've installed Francos and bought the Franco Kernel Updater. Using FrancoTurtle governor and raised the CPU to allow 1200Mhz, I am amazed. Battery life is great, the phone is snappy and responsive all round.
Can recommend Francos Kernel.

I was going to write the exact same thing. I recently switched from Franco to Lean Kernel and am noticing significant battery improvements. Any idea why the latest editions of Franco seem to provide worse battery life?

James Bond 007. I've gotten all the performance that I've had w/ Franco's and an extra two hours of on screen time with heavy network use.

i thought i was the only one who thought this. but yeah, nothing comes close to franco 13.1.

What kernel do you use?

Just interested. I want a kernel that has good battery life, I have tried franco & cmtuna. I think cmtuna has better battery life than franco, but what do you use.

I use popcorn-kernel and it works very well. Glados and Trinity are great, too.

But,to the op...this is a recurring question...Get as many answers as there are different kernel+all the different settings (CPU freq,GPU freq,undervolt,hotplug,etc...)+the rom used+your personnal settings (sync,brightness,widgets,wifi,etc...)+your use...
For me it's impossible to give an answer like that "what's the best kernel"...It depends on to many factors...
Testing other kernel for at least 4/5 days with your usage and see...Take time also to read the feedbacks of the different kernel topics and the changelogs,sometimes it's useful.
A kernel it's not like a full rom,not necessary to do a full wipe each time and loose your settings,etc...So you can flash a kernel easily each 4/5 days and see wich is the best for you,no?
Someone will say xxx kernel is the best for me and after another will say oh no poor battery life with the xxx kernel,same for all other kernel...What do you do?
There is not the kernel alone,which depends of battery life...and that's for sure.
This is a very subjective question, as the answers ...Nothing is known of your usage,your rom, etc. ...You have tested Francisco and ch33kybutt's kernel...and...Battery life is bad,not great,ch33kybutt's kernel better than xxx...And...???
what do you mean by "I want a kernel that has good battery life"...First check your settings for you like I said above,your usage and see...

I have the best battery life with the awesomeincredibleamazinggreat kernel...,I'm happy with 2 hours deep sleep and 5 mins screen-on...awesome...It corresponds to my use and what I hoped!Great great!
Voilà...It depends on how you use your phone and how is for you a good battery life...

I'm using morfic's Trinity kernel. It's the fastest kernel I've tried and battery-life is great, even though the GPU-overclock.

I'm going to go against the grain and say I haven't noticed a significant difference between the kernels. Undervolting doesn't even do much, the processor drain is insignificant compared to the screen.

Is there anyway I can download the stock kernel that came with 4.0.4? This is incase I want to go back, (now running stock rom again)

I'm using the Franco kernel. With the stock kernel I was getting stuttering audio playback when disk I/O was going on. The Franco kernel has some I/O scheduling optimizations that fixed the issue for me.

I have only tried stock, glados, and Franco. Glados would heat up my phone at times, and franco does it less and better battery performance .

I use Franco's kernel. There were some issues with the last couple of nightly builds but they seem to be resolved (at least for me) in the lastest 166. Get his app from the Playstore for ease of configuration.

I use the CMplus, he works with no problems CM9.
Before CMplus, I preferred the Lean Kernel, but CMplus is at the moment my favorit.

I have typically had very good luck with my battery usage, and when I dont I can usually track the source and fix it, however, I am really battling with 4 hour battery life lately. Can anyone suggest a good kernel for this, or maybe some trouble tips.

Honestly, tried many kernels, such as Trinity, Popcorn, Franco and Faux, but I gotta say, battery life doesn't change too much. What you can do to improve it though, is to undervolt it. Or underclock it if you're ok with that. I also recommend you to use SetCPU to set profiles.

Try Jame Bond kernel.

What kernel are you using? I usually uv by -25mV each step and start from there. In the Original Android Development section, Ktoonsez has a kernel and on the OP he lists what his voltage settings are....or at least a decent starting point.
I am currently using Agat v0.3.2 kernel, no OC, ktoonservative govenor with the deadline schedule. With moderate to heavy usage I can get just about a day out of a charge (usually with about 3-5 hours of on screen time).
