[Q] Nandroid - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Nandroid =?
Noob Q sorry

I'm no expert, but it just saves your current setup so you can go back to it if you wish or if something goes wrong while doing something to your phone. I've done some restores and that's what happens so yeah. It's the backups and restore options in CWM.
Maybe someone else can give you a more detailed explanation

There is a entire explnation as to what it is on another post.

It backups every last detail. Really handy, I would suggest you do a lot of these

Awesome thank you

Keep in mind these backups are pretty large in size, like 3+ gb. I generally keep about 3 backups on my device and have the rest copied on my pc

I just don't want to make a mistake

I have moved over to ext4 and am on one of viperroms new releases. I want to jump on their new release wen it comes out Monday or so, or even see a few other roms. Is it really as easy as moving the zip to sd and booting into cwm3 and wiping a few things and installing the rom zip? Just swap around any time I want?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Yup. Just backup in cwm before you start wiping...just in case. Plus, once you have the new rom, you do an advanced restore and restore your data.
Some.of.the roms lime bonsai you don't have to wipe data cause it will backup and then wipe and restore all in the same installation process. Its so easy to install.
Sent from my Evo Killer!!!
I'm actually looking at bonsai. Viper is really nice so far. Couple things I'm going to add in, anarchy launcher and the like. Im just baffled some folks can just sit down at home and crank out these roms and sammy just can't seem to keep their software at the same level as their hardware. Thanks devs!

How exact of a backup is it in Clockwork mod Recover?

I've been using the clockwork mod recovery for a while now and been doing the usual backups and stuff when flashing new roms. I notice it does create a very good backup image. I always wondered how exact and precise of a backup is it? Anyone run into odd issues after doing a restore that doesn't appear until they do a restore?
Only had one problem but that was my own fault..I didn't have enough memory on my memory card and kept getting md5 mismatch... Solved that and flashed the backup but my phone got messed up had to flash a fresh rom such a pain... So always have at least 400mb of memory ha
Edit: and I think u should of post this in android general section
Pretty darn exact, haha.
It also seems to get md5 mismatch error if u try to move the file any where. But it solve by zip-ing the backup before u move it tho. Just thought i share somthing i experienced.
Out of curiosity, what's the average time it takes for a full backup? Whenever I do one, it takes me 15 to 20 minutes...and the backup is almost always over 1 gb but that part makes sense due to how much it backs up.

Data recovery possible

Hey guys. I am not very optimistic but I thought I would ask. My mom asked new to root her phone and put on cyan 10 for her. During this process I had some issues and wound up rendering to stock with Odin and then tied and flash successfully. I didn't realize though that Odin would completely wipe the internal and she neglected to tell me she had pictures on there she wanted. Any possible way to recover data after a flash through Odin?

Worth A try
I've flashed through Odin numerous times and have never had any personal data deleted. Maybe you did something wrong? As for file recovery, use a data recovery software and see if you can retrieve files from it. I know it works on USB flash drives and RAM drives, it should, in theory, work for phones and devices as well. I use 'Recuva', I haven't tried it on my phone yet but I've recovered from USB drives and old hard drives and works like a charm.
If you do use this method, it's best to recover files to a USB drive or anything external, for safety and reliability reasons.
I haven't ever had that issue either. It's partly why I didn't bother backing up those files in the first place. I'm going to go pay her a visit again today and brave the scolding to give this a try. I'll post back my results. : fingers crossed :

There's also an android app called Disk Digger that might be worth a try. I've never used it myself though.
Russian smashed across the interwebz from my Galaxy SII.
Well happy to report all went well. It of her 970 photos, around 2 were corrupt (artifacts in the picture etc). Of the 67 videos 8 were corrupt. All in all a 99% success rate on each. I also setup dropbox on her phone for good measure. Thanks for the assist guys. You saved my ears.

Hate to resurrect this thread, but was actually just looking for my post to use the software I used for somebody else. The software that I used was the one mentioned by Bluntified, Recuva. Worked like a charm!

Flash-aholic Withdrawal

Well my fellow flashers, it's been 2 weeks since I picked up this bad boy from Best Buy in Black Friday. I've been holding off rooting and flashing a ROM. Abstinence is not for everyone and it's definitely not for me in this situation. Once you've been to the Dark Side, there's no going back.
Now to starting testing the new flavors of Android. Thanks to all of the device of Android. My Captivate has served me well because of you all. My daughter sincerely appreciates it.

now be careful and don't lose your IMEI by flashing roms - make a backup of your NV items

Yeah he's right. Don't flash ANYTHING until you backup your IMEI. You never know when you're going to lose it, or if you will lose it.

Wow and you call your self a flashaholic we have to pull your flashaholic card I also came from a captivate and I had my sgs3 without flashing for maybe ten minutes (the time it took to download stuff included time to find right kernel, etc.)
I didn't even know what the stock Rom looked like I turned in my phone had some juice on the battery and I flashed away
Had to try the new update just to see what it looks like, although I ran frosty for a while but was flashing something everyday even with official I have been flashing stuff just to get my flash on(mostly apps and addons) to get my fix until 4.2 roms start coming out, for now I have also flashed the 4.2 camera back on and little mods here and there mostly cosmetic and audio upgrades but at first sign of 4.2 or some rom that gives me new stuff to pay with I'm flashing official rom away

I was a noob and this very thing happened to me. It scared the hell out of me but thanks to the guides and tools and people here at least have peace of mind that this was the first android phone I flashed roms with, IMEI got wiped after a random reboot playing around with LED settings then.. I was able to restore it myself without having a backup!
!! Its never over flash away but make the backup first it will save a lot of sweat!
I have been on Sony phones until last week so I am trying a rooted stock for a while before I start flashing other roms.

Restore rom backup on a different phone.

Is it ok to restore my sprint galaxy s3 16gb rom backup on another sprint galaxy s3 16gb phone. I had to unroot my phone but there is some information I need out off my backup.
Ps just as a side note and future reference is this possible with the 32gb as well. For ex. Does the phones storage make a difference. Restore a backup from a 16gb on a 32gb and vice versa.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
I recommend just to restore apps and data not system apps neither nandroids.
When I switch from my OG Epic to the GS3 I just restore apps and data from Titanium Backup. No issues.

Yes, this is perfectly OK as long as its the same phone, the internal storage size doesn't make a difference (unless you're restoring 20 gigs of data or something, which is very unlikely)

Yup dont worry. I've gotten a refurbed evo shift tons of times and restored the same nandroids across all of them with no problems. I've even seen people upload their nandroids for others to restore in the hopes of fixing a seemingly random bug

Hey I want to do the same. Want to restore my ROm to 32 Gb phone. Did it work for you? Someone else posted somewhere that IMEA number became the same. Don't think that could happen.
That cant happen, that info is stored in the NVRAM...

Haven't done it yet because im going to do it on my sisters phone and she has needed it. I will see if I cant do it tonight and let you know. I was wondering how the phone number and service would work out in this case. Although in my case all I plain on doing is restoring the nandroid getting some info off and then put her rom backup back on.

It wont affect anything to do with that as that info is stored in the nvram
You dont lose your number when you flash roms right? same concept when restoring a backup, you're just reflashing a rom thats been modded by you
