(Q) Does anyone else's phone reboot 7:34 pm every night? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

For the past week, my phone turns off at 7:34 pm. I don't really notice too much, but I have been on the road the past two days, relying on my phone for internet, and blam.... A little of what I am running.
Calkulins 2.9.2
Maddoggins bad ass tsm parts mod
And the nicely colored juicy orange from mijjah/team nocturnal.
My phone has been running great, havent had problems in at all, just this weird shut off. I thought maybe it was the fc18 modem I had running, but I rolled back to el29. Doesnt bother me too much, just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Hmm, strange man, no issue here, I'm on ICS AOSP currently. Don't think its and issue but possibly because you're using the juicy orange theme with calks rom when it's for blend? doubt it but who knows, are you getting hot reboots or los?

Thats a new one I would post this in the calks ROM thread see if you get any info. I would also suggest you re download the ROM and do a full wipe x 2 and flash again that will solve the problem hopefully.

Yep. Definitely chased it to the ROM mixture. I don't necessarily think it is the theme, as most just change the framework, twframework, and systemui. My guess is the way the theme and the lockscreen mod. I am playing around with blazer 4.0 and another theme (not for blazer) to see if I have the same issues. I did this once and had no issues, just lost the exteded toggles.
Havent had any hot reboots or los. Just turns off all incognito....lol... And i have to turn it back on. No bog deal, Ill keep you posted if I can do some digging and narrow it down. I absolutely love the mixture, so it is hard to give up and start over.

Ok, so nevermond. I didn't get much into looking into the files, just searched and searched.... Found that the time was just a coincidence. Turns out all I had to do was clear the cache in the tsmparts in the application manager>reopen tsm under settings>set lock screen to none. Also during this time set the regular lockscreen to none under display>lockscreen. Reboot, sit back and relax, all taken care of. I guess just sometimes after constantly running, just decides to quit. Now you can set the lockscreen to whatever you want.

EF02 and overheating.....

I am using [Odin]Stock EF02 with CWM 3.1.0.1/Root/Busybox 1.18.4 and also tried EF02Plus as well. I seem to have an issue only with EF02 with overheating. I remember it was an issue with the orginial leak of GB but now my phone will say it refuses to charge when it gets too hot. I did a check and my temp reading is at 107F. Now it is about low 90's outside today and we dont have AC as we do not want to kill the planet. Is anyone else having over heating issues? I have also tried both modems ef02 and ef10... I wounder is modem ec03 may solve this... whats your thoughts?

I saw this problem go away when I switched from EF02Plus and went to decadence EF02 deodexed version.
I have had this problem on every ROM I have tried since the release of froyo.. On froyo it would shut down because of the temps and cause all sorts of corruption problems. At least on gingerbread, I am not seeing the corruption, but the overheat lockup is still there and requires a battery pull... I have posted in every thread about this issue and have not seen a real fix to the solution. And I am not sure if it is just certain phones or what as it is not a huge widespread thing, but people do have it... I may try one of the other two roms listed later this week to see if I can sort out the problem...

Now you should try rc10... batteries great after calibration with ee03 modem... right now I'm at 94% and my phones been off the charger for 3.5 hours and the screens been on 30 minutes... I got 3.5 hours with screen on yesterday, and that as urin the calibration process, so today it I'll probly be better .

Huge downgrade for something that's in alpha stage to not be working perfectly?
Netflix upgraded to work with android 4.x back in december with the galaxy nexus release. Like other people who saying I think it's more to do with the actual rom than anything else. I'm sure with the next series releases these minor compatibility issues will be fixed.
Its netflix now but what else isn't working? There are programs other people use on a daily basis not seen at the moment with the current developers and testers using this beta style rom. We are not status quo. There's only a few people using calk's fb17 release at the moment...100 max I am willing to gamble.
The real question is what else isn't working? What other programs like netflix are not running correctly on this version of ice cream sandwich. Maybe there's an off chance that we can isolate the problems similar to what's going on with netflix and other programs and somehow cross check them together with other programs/APKs to find some related issue and tackle it from there.
Until then, like others, I'm gonna stay back on a regular android 3.x rom and work from here because I can't make it through my work night without netflix. It's too damn boring here at usps. 2 hours of work and 6 hours of downtime makes kevin a dull boy. here's hoping an even more stable release is put out so that we can have basic yet minor things like netflix back. Even though it may not seem that important to some other joe schmo across the internet at least a few of us actually desire something like netflix so I wouldn't judge too much.
Oh and by the way, I think this is working with my fb15 version last night so who knows maybe its just some issue isolated to the fb17 rom. I would check but I'm not at home. I really don't feel like temporarily breaking my phone for the evening. If someone wants to check to make sure you could try to flash the old fb15 release and see how netflix runs on that...or if it runs at all.

Like every other release for any OS, software patchwork needs to be done. What is truly exciting about ICS is that Google is requiring manufacturers not to mess with the base of the OS. Which means developers update once and it should be compatible with all. Its exciting mainly because some cool devs for ios have been holding back due to android manufacturers messing around. Now they should easly convert to android.

Quick question, and I'm not sure if it matters or not but how did you go about flashing calks rom? I can think of 3 or 4 different ways I can go about getting everything installed with this fb17 rom. I'm trying to figure out the difference between what you did what I did and how I can possibly get this to work for my phone. last time I installed it on a freshly flashed cwm as well as the fb15 modem. Then I even reverted back to stock el29 modem and rom, then installed calks rooted and deodexed fb17 rom keeping the el29 modem (doubt it matters much which modem I had). just wanted see if you did nothing there for different...or...something
Edit: Dang speak and spell screwed up everything...lol

Fastest Setup I've ever experienced

Hey guys and gals-
Just thought I'd share with you something I'm really excited about. I've been flashing pretty much everything that has come out over recent weeks, and even months. I just was on CM9 build 3.1, which was incredible, but unfinished. I thought it could be my daily, but it started to go into airplane mode and lose mobile data randomly, so I had to restore. After doing so, I feel the need to share with you a setup that I am blown away by. It is:
Gingerbread (Android 2.3.6)
FB 21 Modem (Steady's newest release)
EL29 Kernel (I know some might be upset it's not the newest available, but go with me here)
Everything is just SO ridiculously snappy, I can't believe what I have been missing. Since the "about phone" only has Gingerbread.EL29 in it and not the rom's developer, I can't be certain about the specific ROM I used but I'm fairly certain it's Blazer.
Anyway, enough of the rant. I suggest those who need a break from flashing all the newest things give this combo a try and let me know if you have a similarly enjoyable experience!
Out of curiosity, how long have you been on this setup?
Surely one of the [email protected] here will chime and tell you of a better way to be certain who's kernel you're using? I could be wrong...
Ill check it out now. If nothing else it will take my mind off the fact that I'm jones'n so hard for CM9 Alpha 4, so why not.
Any particular flash order? ...flash this combo all in one CWM session, or reboot in-between? ...etc. Any additional details you can provide would be helpful. I'm bored atm anyway.
Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately like I said, this was a restore which ended up keeping my FB21 Modem with EL29 Kernel. So I don't know the recommended way to flash, but if I were to do it on my own I would probably say format all, blazer EL29 ROM (with kernel), and then this morning is when I actually ODIN'd the FB21 modem, so probably boot up, turn off, enter ODIN download mode, and do that last.

Another good sign. I think I need to stop typing and start flashing.
So to be clear FB modems work fine with Gingerbread ROMs? No issues flashing? I was kinda on the fence about it. Im waiting for a stable ICS ROM.
Nevermind flashed it anyway on Blend 2.6.2 ROM. No problems.
Edit, weird LOS issues moved back to EL29.

In that case, your sig needs updating. Lol j/k. Were you using FB21 in combination with Blazer 4.0 and EL29, like the OP? Just curious...
Yes, no issues. A great improvement, actually.
For reference, here is a screenshot of my home screen. Note the status bar....can't recall exactly which ROM this is from but it's pretty distinguishable. My favorite thus far.

Gps issues

I'm currently running blazer 4.1 with fc07 modem and gunslinger kernel. No matter what Rom I use, gb or ics, as well as testing with different modems, my gps will lock the first couple times but after coming out of a long sleep it won't lock at all. I've tried gps status with no luck, as well as tried the el29 gps fix when I was running that modem. The only thing that seems to work is booting into recovery and clearing cache and dalvik. This will get my gps to lock until my phone goes into another long sleep, then back to nothing. Does anyone know of any other fixes I could try?
Sent from my Blazing fast Epic 4G Touch
Have you cleared AGPS? Also try using a different kernel.
I've tried every combination of everything. I just reboot and that never fails to work. A little annoying, but, no big deal.
I figured it was just a bug in the ICS leaks. Mine also does the same.
Yes, I've reset agps and downloaded through gps status but nothing helps. I'll try a different kernel next, but even when I was on the ics roms and using the stock kernels it would do the same thing.
Sent from my Blazing fast Epic 4G Touch
I had gps lock issues too, but after trying most modems I found one that doesn't seem to have any problems. Make sure you update your profile and prl after flashing modems /kernels

Never had a problem with a lock on any GB Roms with any kernel or Modem...Ever since I flashed ICS Roms tho...is when it started...None of the (GPS) programs to improve locking would work...The last two leaks for ICS which would be FC06 and FCO7 I've been gettin locks...So its not a hardware problem...One sure way to get it to work is to restore a GB Rom with EL29 get a lock leave GPS Open boot into Recovery and restore a Nandroid Backup for the ICS Rom you were on...Open GPS and you will lock... this worked every time...But now since the last two leaks of the two previous ones I mentioned I haven't had a problem...So its either the Modem or the Kernel...I expect the Modem...The problem is on here a lot of people haven't had locking issues with GPS whether they are on ICS or GB...(Go Figure...)

My GPS worked at one time, but not at all since ICS, and MAYBE the last two revisions of GB. Tried every trick in the book, even goong back to old modems. Hoping this is addressed on software soon, or I may turn the phone in. Not a dealbreaker, but a huge PITA, I do use it somewhat often. Then there's the principle of a defective product.

After doing a full wipe and install of the stock rooted el29 tar, I finally got gps to lock successfully multiple times. I left gps locked and flashed blazer 4.1 and all is still good. Do you think its safe to do an advanced restore of data in recovery or should I just restore everything manually?

Why is it that all of these types of things are always categorized as ICS issues when the majority of us dont suffer from often if at all...?

Sorry to say this but I'm running my super nova rom and haven't had any problems what so ever. Nothing looked what you're describing at all. Any chance the phone is having a hardware factory issue since so many others have experienced the same thing?
No its definitely an ICS issue on certain devices. As it doesn't happen on Gingerbread roms based at all. Ive noticed certain users complain about the issue, maybe its different hardware models? Ill wait a bit to see what the developers cook up.... I'll give your super Nova ROM a try.. once all that fails I'll go get a device exchange LOL

Who said anything about insurance? I'm very good friends with the store manager. He always performs a device exchange as long as it hasnt had water damage. And no, I'm pretty sure the issues I'm having are real as pressing the power button and having the unlock screen process done but captive buttons not work for 5 seconds or more, isn't a bad flash. Even on shubs one click to FF18.
Btw check list done.... settings are always left stock. Phone seems okay unless I can surgicly open it to check on internals lol... ! Yes I'm okay myself.other than my messed up fist from a drunk fist fight.
I've had the same issue with most ICS E4GT roms, and doubt it is anything user related. Don't pay attention to the trolls. I've fully wiped my phone and it made no difference. Hopefully someone can figure it out. It's pretty annoying having to turn the screen on a off twice to get the capacitive buttons working.

The only thing I notice is a bit of lag. I didn't have this issue before but it isn't so horrendous that I wanna destroy it. Ill be switching to a rom after I find one with absolutely no bugs. Oh an can I flash ICS to ICS now?

Thank you, glad I'm not the only one who has this issue. The screen on and off is so far the only solution to this so far...

You can if you use the latest agat kernel built from source but remember not all developers have built in the new safe kernel! So you would always have to odin the kernel if it isnt baked with the ROM.
For reference, here is the link to source built kernel.

Ok heres my input. I believe that its a combination of software and hardware. Remember response time of soft buttons depends on how stable the rom is and also whats running at the time they where pressed. Ok say like you have a few apps it the background running and you turn off your screen. Once the screen come on the buttons may take a second to come on because the screen has more of a priorty than the soft button. Its all in how you look at it. And with apps running it slows that process down greatly because a combination of the proccesor and ram being used. Remember not notice but our soft buttons have a back light and they are press sensitive. So with them working together plus all the other stuff i explained timing would be off. But think about it. Lol is it really a depressing ordeal lol. I actually witness it and continue on without even thinking about it. Sorry for rambling lol
