Hello, I have a HTC Desire, and I have a problem with memory cards. I bought a 8gb class 4 card and the phone began to crash and restarira permanently. I thought that the problem is in the card and bought another - again the same way. Was previously with 4gb, no problems. If you have ideas please let decision. Use MildWild CM-3.8

Try Reflashing ROM.
or Use CM7.1
First, put back the memory card you were using before you had this problem (the old one) and flash the ROM you were using before you had this problem, now your phone is back the way it was (without changing the SD card)
now for the SD card, I'm not sure about that, but I saw a forum that says:
"you have to copy all the files from the old SD card to the new one and then change it and it will work fine" but you have to do this after doing the step I said before, Good luck
Hello,
i have a similar problem.
Recently i root my htc desire (first time after 18 month on original froyo 2.2) and succesfully flash a CM 7.1. For this change i removed the old 4gb card and i used an 2gb card, everything works CM is very fast.
Now i want a bigger card so i buy a 8gb class 10 kingston, i copy the partition from 2gb card to this new 8gb with gparted. The phone starts ok but after few minutes if i use an app on sd or an app that use sd (e.g. quickpic or es file explorer) the phone hang i cannot shutdown only restart removing the battery.
Now i return using the 2gb card. Is the 8gb class 10 uncompatible? or maybe an error on this sd? or i have to follow a different procedure to pass from one sd to another?
Thank you for any suggestions

As already stated above if you are moving critical Files to SD card then you must copy an entire Old SD card to New SD card. There is a way out of this just create a Nandroid backup in old Sd card and copy the nandroid backup in new SD Card and then just restore via recovery. Everything would be fine after doing so.
I follow your advise, i re-partition the sd (1 fat32 and 1 ext4 as in old 2gb sd), make a nandroid backup, insert the new 8gb sd and restore the nandroid backup.
Everything works, i can move 2 app to sd... and after i take a picture with camera and then... all apps that use sd hangs: es file explorer, gallery, camera, manage app,... and after a while the phone hangs i cannot shutdown... i remove battery e reuse the old 2gb sd
I was very happy after (my first) nandroid backup and restore, but now i'm very sad, maybe there is something wrong in the 8gb sd
thank you
I tried everything you wrote, but to me does not work for both cards. Yesterday I bought a 4gb and I gave up trying. Thanks for helping.

i want to ask if i change a new memory card , after i format it to fat32 wat should i do next ? my friend done this but the phone still cant detect the sd card .. any solution ?
The phone should detect it after it has been formatted. If it's not detecting it, then something has gone wrong with the card or the phone. I suspect a dodgy card.
Really, all you have to do is this:
Backup your old card
Format your new card
copy the backup onto new card
That's all it should be, unless you're using A2SD or soemthing.
If you have multiple partitions, if you are using A2SD, then you might need something epic like Clonezilla to literally mirror the structure of the old SD card onto the new card. If after a format of FAT32 and the card isn't detected at all, then as the previous post said, the card is probably dud.
i going to buy class 10 8 gb memory card .. does it make the phone load the file faster ? or i juz get class 4 16g better

A2SD transfer the easy way for users
1 - create a nandroid backup of everything (this includes the A2SD ext partition)
2 - backup EVERYTHING from the mem card to your pc!
3 - insert new mem card
4 - run rom manager (download it from the market if you have to!)
5 - partition the new card with rom manager (creating an ext partition as well)
6 - Copy everything from the pc BACK to the NEW card!!!!
7 - Restore the nandroid backup!!!!!!!!!
You now have the phone back to the exact state you started with but with a different memory card installed!
buffer size 8kb
Data size 10mb
Write : 5.27mb
read 12.72
this is kingmax class 10 8gb memory card ..izit good ?

Copy my apps from one SD card to another? I just bought a 16gb class 4 micro sd for my Desire to replace the stock 4gb class 2. I copied everything from the 4gb to the 16gb via my computer.
Now it seems that none of the apps are showing up as usable, they are still on the SD card under applications but I can't launch any of them.
Am I missing something, is there a way to do it without copying them to my phone in stages and then re-copying them to my new SD card?
Apologies if this has been answered in another thread, it's just whenever I search I get threads about A2SD which don't answer my question at all.
Copy .android_secure folder over.

no expert but it might depend if you are using A2SD .....
easiest way would be to do a titanium backup of the apps then copy the backups from one SD to another. Then just restore again ....

I'll give it a shot after dinner, I tried copying the secure folder, but to no avail. Titanium backup seems like my only option.
Nand backup with your other SD card and copy backup to new card, then restore with new card

It turns out I didn't actually copy the .android_secure to the root of the memory card. Derp. Thanks guys. It's sorted now.
I bought a Transcend 16Gb Class 6 sd card for my desire.
Because the phone is rooted and running A2SD+ i partitioned is using Gparted: 1st partition 15GB FAT32; second 1GB EXT3 - no swap.
Used this in my phone. All was fine for a while. Then i started having apps disappear on me. When i tried to re-install the apps the phone would just reboot.
Proceeded to go back the stock 4GB card, no issues.
So i believe its an SD Card problem. However in my pc, i dont have any issue reading this card.
Anybody else experience similar?
Should i get a replacement card?
Anything i might be doing wrong?

The reason it reboot is that part of the app is still stored on internal memory so when you try to reinstall it it will reboot as it cannot install part of an app.
You don't need a replacement card all you need to do is restore a nandroid backup which then adds the data from the SD-ext partition to the new card and then it should work if you haven't got a backup you will have to re flash the Rom and reinstall all the apps via the market or with titanium or my backup
Hope this helps

I have done a full nandroid backup and restore from the working 4GB card to the 16GB. Did this a few time over as I experimented with different EXT3 partition sizes, thinking that a 1GB partition might have been too large.
I didn't have the reboot issue, but apps would lock up, and in some instances the phone would say the SD card is read only.
downloaded an ran a program to test the card (http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/H2testw.shtml). It came up with no errors.
Any other checks i can run?
My 4Gb card works flawlessly, but the 16gb has so many issues. Really confused.
Example: When viewing pictures, in the gallery (nexus gallery) the pics take a long time to load on the 16Gb, no issue on the 4GB.The force closes. The apps disappearing, and then phone rebooting when reinstalling.
I have just ordered a 16GB SD card to replace the 8GB one I have.
Do I need to format the new card in the phone before transferring the old data?
You have to format it somewhere to be sure you have correct cluster size.
Try card after that with free SD tools (http://veluscek.amebis.si/index.asp?selektiran=sdtools). There is free market link.

I am also purchasing a 16Gb SD card . I was going to format it using the phone. You can unmount the sd card and then format it. Is this not a good idea?
I was also going to copy the contents of my current card to my pc, and then copy it back to my new SD card. I am assuming this is the correct way of doing things.
I just changed to a 16GB Class 2 about 2 weeks ago. I just copied everything from the 8GB to my computer. Put the 16 in, and copied everything from the computer to the 16. Everything is working fine. No formating. I did check the phone before copying to it (16), and the format option was not selectable. It was grayed out, so I just copied.
would upgrading the stock 8gig sd card to a class 6 make any difference?

You'd probably only really notice a big difference when copying files from the PC to the phone. Don't think you'd see much of an improvement when opening anything on the phone.

If I'm not mistaken, mine is already upgraded (so-called) to class 10 from my previous phone. I however do not notice any difference in performance.
I think suddy86 is right. Even if there is, I guess it would be hardly noticed.
I have purchased a class 6 card. It was only a couple of quid more than a class 4. Its a Kingston SD Card, so should be good. Didnt fancy buying an unbranded cheaper card.
Another question that I am curious about. Can a nandroid backup made on a 8GB sd card, be restored on a 16GB card?
i believe you can just copy the contents of the 8gig to the 16gig (unless its a gold card)
Hey guys, i had a samsung microsd 8gb class 2 card and i just got a 32gb lexar class 10 . i was on miui a2sd. i partitioned my 8gb card using rom manager (unfortunately), the 32gb is ALL fat32.
first, i copied my 8gb card to my computer, then transferred that to my 32gb. the card didnt work (phone stayed on HTC screen forever).
after a bit of fooling around, i backed up my apps+data to my 8gb sd using titanium, then i performed a factory reset of the phone. i then moved the dalvik cache back to internal memory and for some reason, the 32gb card worked in the phone.
then i decided to switch to mildwild rom instead of miui. the problem is, now when i open titanium with the 32gb card, NONE of my apps are shown. if i use the 8gb card, the apps are shown and able to be restored.
so can anybody explain this? and do i need to partition my 32gb for mildwild?
If your rom requires EXT partition, then obviously you have to create EXT partition on your new card.
via xda app
maybe you have an EXT partition in samsung card. You have to prepare partition on new card, do a nandroid backup with samsung card on, copy files to pc, paste files on lexar card and restore nandroid with lexar on.
If you were using MIUI A2SD then part of your 8GB will have a Ext partition. I suggest (no responsibility accepted) you partition your 32GB using gParted and use some kind of Linux OS to copy the files from the Ext partition of your old card to your new one. Failing that, do a nandroid back up on your 8GB and copy that over to your 32GB and restore. But be sure to have an ext partition of your 32gb because you need it for your MIUI A2SD.
