Copy my apps from one SD card to another? I just bought a 16gb class 4 micro sd for my Desire to replace the stock 4gb class 2. I copied everything from the 4gb to the 16gb via my computer.
Now it seems that none of the apps are showing up as usable, they are still on the SD card under applications but I can't launch any of them.
Am I missing something, is there a way to do it without copying them to my phone in stages and then re-copying them to my new SD card?
Apologies if this has been answered in another thread, it's just whenever I search I get threads about A2SD which don't answer my question at all.
Copy .android_secure folder over.

no expert but it might depend if you are using A2SD .....
easiest way would be to do a titanium backup of the apps then copy the backups from one SD to another. Then just restore again ....

I'll give it a shot after dinner, I tried copying the secure folder, but to no avail. Titanium backup seems like my only option.
Nand backup with your other SD card and copy backup to new card, then restore with new card

It turns out I didn't actually copy the .android_secure to the root of the memory card. Derp. Thanks guys. It's sorted now.

I want to buy a new sd card since the one I have is a class 2 card.
How do I do this? I have installed loads of progs on my old card?
Do a Titanium backup, copy the file to pc, swap sd card and run titanium again?
Or should I flash the rom?
Any ideas?
bump
sorry
I would do a nandroid backup onto the old SD card, then do a total copy and paste of everything on the old SD to your PC. Get the new card and put the pasted stuff on to this one, then do a nandroid restore.
The only reason I'd do it this way is because I've read that titanium can be a bit odd at times and doesn't seem to work 100% every time.
I have a debranded Desire 2.2 which is not rooted. Inside my phone i have an 8gb sd card which contains data for many apps as i use adb push apps to sd.
To debrand my phone, i created a gold card from a seperate 2gb sd card.
My question is; Is there any way i can make my main sd card into my gold card without affecting any of my apps which i have stored on it? The reason i am asking this is that i require my gold card for any future updates and this will save a great deal of hassle with reinstalling applications everytime i require an update.
When I made a gold card (didn't actually need it in the end to debrand BTW using unrevoked). I couldn't access it as a normal SD card... Would be nice to know how to do this. I have a 4GB Gold card (which is pretty much useless), and a 8GB ext3/FAT32 card!

If you copy all the files on you card to another location, format the card, make a gold card, and copy the files back, all should be fine

I follwed the process absolutely for making this, and replace the 000-0170 lines, but the disk was not readable in Windows.. Any idea what I did wrong?
My Desire originally came with a 2 GB card (yeah, sucks!) and I've ordered a 16 GB SDHC and is expected to be delivered anytime this weekend.
I do have some apps moved from phone memory to the 2 GB SD card.
How do I go about replacing the 2 GB card with the new 16 GB card WITHOUT losing any of my apps already installed?
Is there a procedure to be followed??
Thanks!
If you just used the stock FroYo A2SD, move them back to the phone and then copy the contents of the SD card to the new one and boot up...you may even be able to just copy the lot as it is but I don't know if it'll check on boot to make sure the data is correct

Yup, used the stock FroYo's A2SD feature. The glitch here is I have very low memory on the Phone memory. Would copying the contents of the 2GB card and moving it to the new 16 GB card retain the apps? [Sounds pretty weird to me, but, just wanna confirm from the experts here]
Also, if I do not wish to retain anything from the older memory card, is it mandatory to copy the contents to the new memory card?
Thanks!
Yes, as said, if you are using the stock A2SD all the apps will be working normally just by copy/paste.
And as for what will happen if you don't copy the contents - system apps/stuff will make their folders by themselves, in other words the phone will be working fine, but the apps that you have installed and are moved to the SD will not work.

So the best option would be to move the apps from SD card to phone memory, as many as apps as possible and copy the contents of the SD card to a folder on the PC.
After replacing the SD card, move the copied folder and move all the movable apps to SD card..
Am I right there?
Thanks..
I've used Froyo A2SD before I got myself a new 16gb card and just by copy/paste I didn't get any problems. So you should be fine too, without the hassle of moving/coping/moving back.
Do this, you will need a card reader and a micro to normal sd card adapter:
1. Turn off Desire
2. Take out microSD card and put it into the card reader using the micro to normal adapter
3. Copy the contents of the card to your PC
4. Swap the old card for the new one
5. Copy the information back to the new card
6. Put new microSD card into Desire
7. Turn it on
Hopefully it will just work as normal
Hi Eddy, I'm not sure this is necessary as I've done it without readers and adopters.
I simply copied them to the pc then changed the sd card plugged the phone to the pc with the new card, run a full format (even if the OS does make folders on the card, like "LOST.DIR", ".android_secure, etc just overwrite them) and then placing my data back on the card.
Or am I missing something?
Only reason I say to do it that way Is as otherwise Android might have a hissy fit about the apps moved to the SD not being there. I've not tried to change SD cards as I've had my 16GB card from the off but if it works then fair enough!! I just prefer to do things as I highlighted so I know there's as little chance of things going wrong as possible (I'd actually wipe the phone and start everything again but that's just me )
Thanks EddyOS and 3722. I'll do this tomorrow and let you know guys..
Cheers!
Set up my new 16 GB card today.. Tried both the suggestions individually and cross checked to ensure that everything was all right.. Both the methods work just perfectly.. Direct copy & paste and using the micro to normal adapter.. Perfect!
Thanks guys!
Cheers!
Hello all, I have a rooted play running stock firmware 2.3.4.
I want to migrate to a bigger SD card and have done a titanium backup of my apps. However some of my apps I "moved to sd card". So my question is can I copy all my files and folders from the old sd card to my desktop and then to the new sd card? Will the apps on the sd card work just fine? Please advise. Thank you.

Worked for me. I replaced mine that way with no problem. Just make sure you copy everything, and don't wipe the old card until you test out the new one, just in case.

You don't even have to do a titanium backup, all you need to do is copy EVERYTHING, that includes hidden folders, make sure you backup android.secure folder, that's where everything you "Move to SD Card" in settings goes
All that you have to do is copy everything from your old SD card straight to your new one. I did this upgrading from an 8gb micro SD to a 32gb micro SD.

I'm rooted but none of my backup managers will let me make a backup of my app's to external sd card... I'm trying to backup so I can try a new rom, but also everytime I try to copy or delete something from my external sd card it says it failed or denied and card is something I forgot copywrite protected or some crazy junk like that.
I just wanna get control of my external sd card back
Why not reformat the card first. Settings>storage

It's a 64Gb card with about 48Gb's of stuff on it.
I'm trying to backup to the cloud and then flash a new rom, it backs up about 20 or so app's at a time and then errors out.
I might try and copy all it's files to my hard drive and then reformat.

I've been seeing 128Gb microsd cards on ebay with zero negative feedback or bad reviews, but being burned once on fake sd cards makes me a bit hesitant when I bought a 32Gb and it was actually a 512Mb microsd with cloned layers to appear to be a 32Gb.
