Back to stock - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Gotta return the phone to HTC. I looked in the development sticky with all the guides/roms, but didn't see a guide/link for the most current, stock, bloated ass VZW rom.
Any help or unkind words are appreciated.

There's a guide on YouTube about how to unroot your incredible 2. I used the same guy's method to root my device originally. Look up nat3mil on YouTube and find his vid on how to unroot your device. If not, then you can look it up on rootzwiki because there's plenty of guides on how to unroot your phone.
It's the best! Beats the rest!

You could download andybones stock rom. Then check for an update and I THINK that will get rid of root, but not s-off. Or check under dev section on rootzwiki

How do you unroot? I'm going to be returning this phone (Sprint got me angry for certain reasons). How do I unroot so that I can return it and not have it seen as out of warranty

It's that easy? If so, thank you very much.
Just be careful which one you flash. If you flash a rom that closes the ability to root you are screwed if you ever want to go back. Back a page or two someone posted the original Ruu from sprint which has the shipping EVO rom. Thats what you need to use to go back to stock and don't accept updates if you want to preserve your future root.

For now yes, that may not always be the case. In the event some poor soul searches the forum like a good noob and sees that its not a big deal, flashes a Sprint RUU that breaks root and ends up screwed.
Well I'm returning the phone so future root's isn't a concern but thank you!
Where did you find the Stock ROM? I can't find one. All I can find is the RUU. I'm sorry if these are dumb questions but I am new to this.

Search "Shipped ROMs" from the forum... or just go to (shipped-roms dot com). Should find what you are looking for there.

How to Root

Alright, just moved over from a myTouch 3G and looking to go back to my rooted state. Running the Stock 2.2 Sprint rom... anyway, whats the best way to achieve root now? It looks like unrEVOked 3.1 takes care of everything but this site is litered with different options...
Edit: should have named this "best method to root" not how-to. That i have no problem with.
Edit 2: Crap, running 2.2, looks like there isn't a root method yet. 3.26.651.6
Is it even possible?
No, I'm an idiot.

That's why I didn't root pre 2.2 cuz there are so many threads with way too many pages to sort thru. I wanted to wait for a root 2.2 so I could start with a fresh thread and not have to sort thru all the crap that gets posted into those threads within an hour... hopefully when root is available the OP will lock the how to thread and open a separate thread for questions try to make it easy to just read the necessary and important info without spending hours of useless wading thru crap that some people feel the need to post.
Just can't understand how a Rom thread can have hundreds to thousands of replies and id bet 90% are all the same questions over and over and over...... anyway here's to hoping

newbe looking to root or stay stock

hi i am newbe and i want to know what are the resins to root and if i don't root is there a way to get 4.04 on a non rooted VZ GN
I think if you search google: "to root or not to root" there are some good explanations.
Don't take any offense, http://lmgtfy.com/?q=to+root+or+not+to+root
When you root, you modify the files of the phone to give you special permissions that were once locked. You can install ROMs that look different, or increase battery or run faster or have features you like. The possibilities are endless. You also are first to get leaked updates.
Yes you can flash 4.0.4 on a stock unrooted Galaxy Nexus but the bootloader must be unlocked. This easy and can be done with either Mskip's toolkit or Wugfresh's take your pick they are both easy and good.
Good Luck & Have Fun

I suggest not rooting or unlocking your bootloader until you have hung around long enough to learn why you would need to. Use your phone a while and get familiar with it first.
Rooting: mod the phone to give an app superuser privileges if it requests it. Certain functionality can only be utilized by apps running as root. Whether or not you need that is something you should discover on your own. Treat it very carefully as giving a malicious app root is deadly.
Unlock boot loader: open up the ability to install custom roms.
You should probably hang around a bit and learn before doing either.
I personally have yet to see a need to do either on ICS, but that's only my opinion.
Have fun.

[Q] Soon to be VZW Dinc2 owner: Some basic questions.

Firstly, I apologize if this question has been asked a 1000 times before. Unfortunately I couldn't find such a thread when I went through the forums, probably because this is a slightly old device and such questions most likely were asked WAY back in 2011, I guess.
I am currently a Motorola Droid X2 owner. After putting up with Motorola and its equally crappy phone for months, I finally convinced the VZW customer care rep to give me a different phone and I chose the Dinc2, which will arrive at my home on Monday. I do believe that the Dinc2 is BETTER than the DX2 in almost every aspect: has an unlockable Bootloader, is guaranteed to get ICS from HTC eventually and has a boot load of awesome custom ROMs! If you head over to the DX2 community, compared to this, it may feel like a ghost town! (The only active dev is busy with school and has no time, so the dev section has hardly gotten any news for the last 2-3 months!!! ) Plus my DX2 is plagued with issues.
In this regard, I would like to know if any of you have any knowledgeable opinions on whether the Dinc2 is indeed better than the DX2. Secondly, what are the major issues people are facing with this phone? My DX2 has at least 6-7 major issues.
Now, I would like to know:
1. How easy is rooting on this phone? Is there a tutorial? Is it reversible?
2. How easy is it to achieve S-OFF? Is it reversible?
3. I have not read anything about unlocking bootloaders to be a requirement to install any ROM. Is it necessary to unlock the BL to install ICS/CM9/MIUI ROMs? Is it reversible?
4. My most important query is can I revert back to 100% stock (i.e. unrooted, S-ON and locked bootloader, if I had to unlock it in the first place) in case I am not satisfied with the phone and want a different Dinc2 or may be a different device?
Thank you all for your help! Kindly do reply to this thread and answer as many of my questions as you can!!
Looking forward to enjoy my Dinc2 and be a part of this community!
Cheers! \m/
Welcome to the Incredible 2 Community!
1 & 2) I rooted mine in an hour. This includes the research I did to know how to do it (Google 'Revolutionary Incredible 2'). I did S-Off, cause I don't see the point of rooting if someone leaves S-On. It is entirely reversible. I have also done that.
3) When you root your phone, you are unlocking your bootloader. That is why you can flash ROMs and the like. It's been recommended not to use HTC's unlocker, as you are telling HTC that you did it. That is up to you, but you will still have S-On.
4) Same question as 1 & 2? Yes. I have done it.
HTC > Motorola every time.
Quick word of advice: I guarantee you that all these questions are on the internet. Try to search better. Help us keep these forums clean of redundant posts. Again, Welcome to the Incredible 2 Community.

Thanks a lot! And I am soooo sorry for cluttering up the forum. I know how that feels (The transformer prime forum, for instance, is cluttered with people complaining about the same thing and/or posting the same info, news or problems!)
Glad to know that rooting is very easy and also glad to know that achieving S-OFF is also easy and super glad to know that both these are reversible. Also happy to know that it is unnecessary to use HTC's unlock method and tell them that you unlocked the phone!
I am very excited to be getting this phone! So looking forward to Monday and finally having a good phone!
Cheers \m/
Welcome aboard, I think you'll find this is a pretty helpful group here.
Pretty much any and all of your questions have been compiled into this thread Click me.
Take a look around the dev forum for roms. Bunch of good stuff in there

Yes. My nephew had to get a replacement Dinc2 and it only took 10 minutes to downgrade and s-off. I would be surprised that you wouldn't have .98 bootloader. Anyways, its easy.
2. How easy is it to achieve S-OFF? Is it reversible?

Yes and Yes, but isn't for the faint of heart.
3. I have not read anything about unlocking bootloaders to be a requirement to install any ROM. Is it necessary to unlock the BL to install ICS/CM9/MIUI ROMs? Is it reversible?

Since the Dinc2 is s-off, I wouldn't recommend anything else. HTCdev unlock tool is useless because we have s-off and ROM flashes are very easy.
4. My most important query is can I revert back to 100% stock (i.e. unrooted, S-ON and locked bootloader, if I had to unlock it in the first place) in case I am not satisfied with the phone and want a different Dinc2 or may be a different device?

Kind of already answered this question. Re-locking the bootloader will include the latest RUU.
I've got a bunch of guides down in my sig. Looks like the others have answered your q's.
