Go launcher help - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good morNing guys! My daughter has the MT3G slide... She downloaded go launcher, but now it just force closes. Even at reboot, it starts force closing over and over when you hit ok or close, mite she can't even use it! How can I get go launcher off of there when all it does is flash force close over and over? Btw, I know the is the g2 forum, which is what I have, I just know you guys are the best!

That is weird... Maybe try another version... Or use other good launchers as 360, ADW, Lightning etc...
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA

I would but you can't do anything with the phone because the force close box pops up over and over.

Assuming it is rooted with custom recovery:
1) Restore from backup
2) adb and remove/disable the app
3) adb to install another launcher
4) Mount in recovery and delete the app

No, sadly it hasn't been rooted

just do a factory reset, she might loose some data but at least shell have a phone!
or check the mt3g forum, i think there is a .nbh file you can load onto your phone just by booting into hboot. after that you can root it and not worry too much about a lot of these type of issues

how to uninstall ADW

ok this sounds silly i know because i should be able to just uninstall it via app manager but it is not an option because the phone thinks its a system app.
i can not update either via market, or downloading the apk and using adb to install it.
i have googled and saw a few mothods but each varied and neither worked.
so if the phone considers ADW a system app, how can i get rid of it.
i was just going to delete stuff with root explorer but i get nervous doing that with things i dnt understand or fully know what they are.
anyone have any ideas ?
p.s.
adw rocks i love it i just want to update to 1.1.1 and can not.
once its uninstalled i will download it from the market so its installed properly.
first thing is, are you running another launcher? if not you need one. do you have root? im assuming so, so all you need to do is use estrongs/astro or whatever to navigate to the /system/app folder and delete it bu tonly if youre running another launcher.
that doesnt work my friend. there is more to adw than just /system/app
i did see a quick tutorial to rm /system/app/appname and also data/app/appname
so i need to do both.
the /system/app/appname is the normal method and the first thing i did. i didnt need to research that. but it still is technically install via other files and folders somerwhere else

no sign of it on my cm6 installs after removing from system/app and then a cache and dalvik wipe.
ahhh that might be the ticket there.
i am always nervous about wiping.
cache wipe is ok. i just dont do dalvik for nothing.
i need to go back and read a little about whats in dalvik.
thanks for the tip

hey man thanks for the wipe suggestion that was the ticket.
ya know i been using the LG Launcher the last 2 days and i like it. better app drawer grouping then adw but slower page and drawer shifting (no speed option)

Roms & APKS

Not sure if this info has been posted anywhere. So, I would like to know if there is any way to install APKs from a different rom onto current rom. I am currently running IncRom 1.2, but I have never been a fan of Sense dialers. I would like to install either MIUI dialer or any 2.3 based dialer. Is it possible, and if so, how would I go about doing that? Any info. would be greatly appreciated.
Just download whatever rom you want the apk from and put it onto your new rom? I hope that makes sense as I can't think of a better way to explain ...

I get what you're saying and I've tried that before, but then I always get force closes on phone app. What I've done before is grab apk from 2nd rom, place it in place of apk in current rom. I've tried zipping after that, and not zipping the file. After trying both ways, I reinstall rom, then run into the force close issue. Do I need to reinstall Rom after that? Or am I not even doing this the right way?
You need to fix the permission after you put it into your rom. I use root explorer and its two boxes for the first row then one for the other two.

Sounds good. Will try fixing permissions. Will report back on results. BTW, thanks for the help so far.
I don't think it is possible because the phone apk is tied into the framework. Please correct me if I'm wrong

I fixed permissions, removed current phone.apk and replaced it with the fixed phone.apk. I rezipped rom and reinstalled. Once it was up and running I was right back where I started with the original phone.apk, minus the fc's.

I know this works with the music.apk as I've done it in the past just replacing the stock app with the gingerbread music app and it worked just fine after setting permissions. But now that I think about it more I think I also had to install it just like a regualr app to get all the files in place then set permissions not just replace the file in the system/app folder.
The phone apk ties into other programs. It is not a stand alone flash. There would need to be some code changes to make it work.
Seems like too much work for me. Appreciate the ideas & help you guys offered.

Check out incredibly re-engineered...
Aosp dialer will probably not work on a Sense based roms as Sense is a UI overlayed and pretty deeply integrated into the Android os. You may want to consider one of the dialer options from market...Dialer one is popular. Or you may just want to consider moving to an aosp rom.

I have been trying to install reengineered but ever since I updated clockworkmod I can't. That's besides the point. I have used a few aosp roms but miss out on Sense. Guess I have my cake, but can't eat it. Oh well.

Downgrade clockwork or reflash via recovery. You wont be dissapointed.

Who are you asking? I never uninstalled stock messaging so I'm not sure who you are directing that towards. This was my first attempt at trying to move apks around so I don't have enough info.

Deleted APK with Root Explorer but app won't go away!

I have a rooted phone running the GingerVillain ROM. It has some programs I don't want like Mail, Gmail and News And Weather.
I followed the steps to remove the programs with Root Explorer. I.E. Going into System/Apps and mounting R/W. long press on the APK and delete. Boom, program gone..... nope! I went into my menu and it is still there. Even worse, it is still works!
I rebooted the phone and the APK files were there again!
Anybody seen this kind of strange activity before?
If you are still S-ON, it won't work. You need to be S-OFF to delete files from the system partition while the phone is up & running.
I've heard of that. How would I know if I'm S-OFF? If I'm not then how can i set my phone to S-OFF?
Strangely it appears that the file deletes. It only reappears after reboot. I would have thought it wouldn't have deleted at all if it wasn't working correctly.
How to know that? Well, it was just discussed, you're not S-OFF, because you can't delete files from the system partition (it disappears, but it's still there).
And also if you did not do the S-OFF procedure, it won't be S-OFF'd.
Here's the guide how to do it: S-OFF Tutorial

Another way to find out S-ON/OFF is to look into your H-BOOT by turning off your phone, hold down the volume down and switching on. The first line will tell you what it is set to.

Unless you've done the s-off procedure you won't be s-off
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
I found the s-off procedure using alpharev bootable CD as quick and easy as rooting (once I was running a custom rom).
Now I have zapped unwanted apps directly whilst running and also flashed hboot giving me more free memory and a very responsive phone.

And if you don't want to go s-off just delete the files in the Rom zip file before you flash it.

Launcher pro question

Does anyone have this problem,
I'm using launcher pro plus, and after updating to froyo, when I add the calander widget it keeps crashing the launcher!!
Tried emailing the dev. but no answer.

Check for the update to 0.8.4.1 - there was a bugfix for various widget-based FC's.
I had the Facebook Widget problem, it took years to update/refresh my facebook to the latest status. I dont set auto refresh as I worry it will eat up my data and battery. Anyone knows the solution?
Yeah try the latest version

Try clearing the application data of "Storage Calendar"!
I also have a problem with Launcher Pro, didn't wanna start a new thread..
It doesn't save the settings when I restart it. For example, I change the number of homescreens or the animation when switching them, and the next time I run LP (restart in menu / kill app and restart / reboot etc.) it's back to default.
I also can't keep LP Plus activated.. I enter the code, it says it's activated, I can add the LP Widgets..but after restart, it's locked again..
Help?
Tried clearing the data but even that didn't work!
So confusing and the developer didn't answer to the emails I sent!

Force close LP. Then with Root Explorer or Super Manager delete the following folder: /dbdata/databases/com.fede.launcher
(Might work for OP too...)
Not storing settings: delete /dbdata/databases/com.fede.launcher directory using Root Explorer (or adb).
Thanks a lot guys!
I was previously trying to delete that with Astro, but nothing would show in databases folder. Works like a charm with Root Explorer.
Hey guys still waiting for an answer regarding the calander widget crash...
Cheers

Worked for me !!!

HTC One V keyboard not working, at all!

So my HTC one v (CDMA) has been doing this really annoying thing where the keyboard refuses to work. For a while locking and unlocking it usually did it, then it came down to rebooting the phone completely. Even then it will only work for about an hour. Custom keyboards don't help at all either.
I've tried turning off vibrate on click.
Anyone else having this problem? Or even a fix?

You can remove it using Titanium backup and then re-intall as an app only. Let me know if you have any other issues
