how to uninstall ADW - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok this sounds silly i know because i should be able to just uninstall it via app manager but it is not an option because the phone thinks its a system app.
i can not update either via market, or downloading the apk and using adb to install it.
i have googled and saw a few mothods but each varied and neither worked.
so if the phone considers ADW a system app, how can i get rid of it.
i was just going to delete stuff with root explorer but i get nervous doing that with things i dnt understand or fully know what they are.
anyone have any ideas ?
p.s.
adw rocks i love it i just want to update to 1.1.1 and can not.
once its uninstalled i will download it from the market so its installed properly.

first thing is, are you running another launcher? if not you need one. do you have root? im assuming so, so all you need to do is use estrongs/astro or whatever to navigate to the /system/app folder and delete it bu tonly if youre running another launcher.

that doesnt work my friend. there is more to adw than just /system/app
i did see a quick tutorial to rm /system/app/appname and also data/app/appname
so i need to do both.
the /system/app/appname is the normal method and the first thing i did. i didnt need to research that. but it still is technically install via other files and folders somerwhere else

no sign of it on my cm6 installs after removing from system/app and then a cache and dalvik wipe.

ahhh that might be the ticket there.
i am always nervous about wiping.
cache wipe is ok. i just dont do dalvik for nothing.
i need to go back and read a little about whats in dalvik.
thanks for the tip

hey man thanks for the wipe suggestion that was the ticket.
ya know i been using the LG Launcher the last 2 days and i like it. better app drawer grouping then adw but slower page and drawer shifting (no speed option)

Maybe switching ROMs or re-flashing your current ROM will work. Give it a shot, backup your apps of course.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Are they apps that you have ever had installed? Try installing an app that you have never had installed and see if that works. If it does, then use a file explorer (I use astro), and see if there's anything in the folder titled ".android_secure" (without the quotes of course) on your sdcard. I actually had this problem before, and there was some left over app data that was interfering with the installation I guess
geez was hoping this would work but I just checked my astro application and checked android secure and all directories are empty. also this is a problem with applications that I ready have that need to be updated and brand new applications I am downloading from the market... I just get a triangle with an ! in the middle of itfor each application that did not successfully install... and this is a brand new problem haven't done anything different been running the newes t fresh for months now

What is your memory situation?
Froyo apps2sd ? A2sd ?
GO into recovery and clear cache and Dalvick cache.
Try wiping the market data this happened to me couldn't update or install anything and it worked
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Did you install your previous apps from the market or did download apk's then install them? Try Settings>Applications>Manage Clear market cache and data that might work like the other person said. Check your memory. What rom are you using? Try backing everything up then go do a factory reset and then setup up your google account that's what I did when that happened to me months back and seemed to work. Hope I helped

[Q] Lost Google News & Weather Service

Ok because im still a noob and cant post on the development forum...I figured id ask this here.
So i flashed the Gapps.zip from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056205&highlight=GOOGLE+TALK
Everything is working great including the gtalk video, except i have lost the google news and weather application. How can i get this back?
Im running CM7.0.3.1 w/stock CM kernal.
1) This doesn't belong in development anyway, unless you're asking in the thread for the gapps. Do not make a new thread for a question in development.
2) If the app is included in the gapps, just wipe cache & dalvik cache, then reflash the gapps zip.

1) I cannot post a reply in that topic yet...because i do not have enough posts to do so..
2) I tried wiping cache & dalvik, then reflased. Still nothing...
Also, I even triend installing the apk that wmstwo002 posted with no luck either. Is there a specific folder i have to drop that apk into first in order to install correctly?

Just drop it on the root of your sdcard, then use a root explorer, to locate the app on the sdcard, long press, enable all the permissions, move to /system/app then install. Make sure you are mounted as r/w.
Edit: I don't know if he pulled this from a sense rom, because its not installing on Cm7 for me, with enabling all the permissions, I can say its not going to work.
It may need to be in /system/app.
Do you have Root Explorer?

Still no luck. It goes through the install process and then at the end it says 'application not installed'. Im at a loss. I guess ill just go back to gapps without gtalk video. No big deal, thanks for everyones help

Try these gapps > http://www.mediafire.com/?92475r3frlncg29
And yes, they're safe.
If you do have Root Explorer (or another root level file explorer), copy the downloaded apk then navigate to /system/app. You need to mount as r/w - in Root Explorer there's a button in the top right to do so. Paste the apk in that folder, then long-press the geniewidget.apk. Choose "permissions" from the list and change them to rw-r--r--
It should look like this:
x x -
x - -
x - -
X's are checked, dashes are not.
Then reboot, and you should have it.

I do have root explorer and I have tried every option posted on this thread with no luck.
But, Im using the weather channel widget for my weather right now and i like it a lot better than the genie widget.
Any recommendations for any other weather widgets that are reliable?
Beautiful widgets are beautiful. Try it out. If you like it there is a paid version, but the default with no skins are nice too.
For just weather, I use Palmary Weather. It's also a paid app, but has the best weather widgets I've ever seen. Beautiful Widgets is good if you want a clock as well, otherwise it's a little bulky for just weather in my opinion. I wasn't aware that there's a free version.

Are Twitter apps the "only" apks that wont install? If so, that is indeed perplexing. If you have the time, flash a different rom and see if you're able to install.
Try moving the app to /system/app then use root explorer to enable all permissions, then install.

well i already tried the system/app combo and fixing the permissions and that didn't work. will try the data/app combo wierd thi cause it should show up in the app drawer to open up the app
if you have Root Explorer (or Android Commander on your PC), navigate to /data/data and delete the com.twitter.android folder, and then try installing Twitter again. I had the same problem on CM7 and this fixed it (without having to completely wipe the phone)
Years weird thong I don't even have that folder anywhere in data/data

[Q] og incredible on 2.3.4(s-on)bloatware help

followed the tutorial for the unrevoked rooting method..(mad props to all involved)
okay so my question is, im on the stock rom(2.3.4) rooted with HBOOT.92 and obviously have root acces, i want to get rid of a bunch of bloatware, vcast, app sharing ect ect.
in the past i had a htc eris and used root explorer and deleted all the bloat from the system/app folder and seemed to work flawless. i tried that but they are still there, then used titanium pro to uninstall them but no go, then i created a filter name "bloat" and melted it. well now the app are uninstalled but still are in my apps screen. i then tried to use root explorer again and they are not to be found in the system/app folder, i have a backup so io am not worried.
any suggestions on how to get rid of these bloatware, or could you recommend a rom low on memory usage that is close to stock rom, or maybe some nice visualized roms that are not to big on the memory.
This might sound obvious but did you reboot after deleting the apps?

Get S-Off then try removing the apps again.
Hope this helps...
You dont need s-off to remove apps just root. Deleting the apks with root explorer should work.

according to the tut,""*at this point, you could just enjoy root access without doing anything else. if all you care about is using a couple of root only apps, and deleting some bloatware, you can remain rooted and s-on if youd like.""

I had this happen when 2.3 first came out, and I went to delete the apps and they'd just reappear on reboot. Installing busybox fixed my issue then.
Good luck!
well i think i may have figured it out, used this app System App remover, couldn't uninstall anything but disabled all the stuff i wanted to, then used root explorer to delete apk's in system/app.
installed busy box but didn't notice anything different.
Just flash a new rom. If you want something like stock or better I suggest any rom by Heyitslou, skyraider, or newtoroot sense 3.0 or lower.

you don't need to do any of that.
Using root explorer:
Delete the .apk files from BOTH system/app AND data/app.
Reboot into recovery.
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache
Reboot
Be patient as your phone rebuilds the cache and dalvik cache. Once you get to the unlock screen, wait another minute or two.
enjoy.
much love my friend

I've removed some programs through root uninstaller. Such as gmail. I didn't make backups.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Probably have to wipe data and reinstall roms or try flashing a Gapps package.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
some apps, such as gmail, can be downloaded from the market. For others have you tried pulling the apks from your rom.zip and placing them in /system/app?
While it is normally fine to remove certain system apps (I routinely strip down every rom I install of certain apps), getting them back can be a pain sometimes if you're not sure how to do it. Another way to achieve the same goal is to 'freeze' all the apps you don't want to use. They won't show in the app list and they won't run in the background but they will still be there if you ever need them.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
I would wipe data if it doesn't work reflash the rom.
Some of the stuff you may have removed may be best resolved by reflashing the build that you're using. For example, I use Gmail and another mail app, no need for Exchange or the stock email. I used to not back these up so when I actually needed to test something it was off to ODIN my phone again . Now I use TB and back it up before I remove it.
This is very simple to fix. It should never be a pain to accomplish either.
1: Find the apps you want to restore in the rom you flashed (if you don't have the original .zip, download it or a similar rom). Use 7zip or WinRAR to open the rom file.
2. Copy the apps you want to your sdcard.
3. Use Root Explorer or similar app to move or copy the apps to /system/app (you will need to make sure your file explorer can mount the /system in rw)
4. Reboot and enjoy
Basically you just want to pull the apps from a copy or the rom you flashed or a similar one (ICS>ICS GB>GB). Then move those apps to /system/app and reboot. The phone will reinstall them when it boots back up.
