I know its a dumb question and will never happen but I've always wondered why we couldn't have OTA updates for a rom, say CyanogenMod. Why couldn't we like get a notification of a new nightly or release and then accept the update and everything is done, with the rom downloaded, a backup made, rom installed, gapps installed, and phone re-setup exactly how it was, like an OTA from sprint? Now don't go saying Rom Manager because I know you can kind of do that from the app but it really isn't the same as a real OTA from sprint.... you guys get what I'm saying?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
ROM Manager Premium has that option but the devs would have to initiate it.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Personally I think it would take way too much effort to set up but would be wonderful for the end user. I don't see it ever happening due to the amount of bandwidth involved.

Right, it only checks when you log into it if I remember correctly.
Forced ROM OTAs would require your phone to send out a notification that you are still on that ROM and waiting for an update. It is not like Sprint's servers where they know what phone and what firmware you are supposed to have. Then the developer would also be responsible or at least answer for borked OTAs like Sprint is. Not practical at all.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Yeah I see what your saying. Would be a cool thing though, have everything the way you had it just with the newer rom with just a press of a button!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Cm7 nightlys with rom manager premium would pop up a notification every day a new one was out, I would click and it would download, click again and it would reboot and install. I think it even gave the option to backup first.

Yeah but did it automatically restore you phone to its previous setup; apps, texts and everything? That would be the best thing, and that's what I was talking about. I see what your saying though.

I got the same OTA notification, running Juggernaut 3.7
Did you guys install the update? Or just get a notification?

I don't mind updating via OTA (I'm on BeastMod now), but what I don't want to do its lose root and have to restore all the data manually.

It was a notification for the update with an option to install or postpone; I'm going to postpone mine as long as I can....not sure what that update will do being that I'm rooted and on Juggernaut.
I'm sure one of the dev teams will take the OTA and roll it into a ROM so we can get the update and keep everything that we're used to.
I'm still on stock and yet to get update. sucks!

I got the update notification too and I'm also running Juggernaut 3.7.
I'm using the EagleBlood ROM and I received the update notification today. I'm postponing it as long as I can, but is there a way to just reject the update? It's annoying seeing the icon in my notification bar.
Can any of you just pull the link please? It would be a great help to many people. Everyone keeps posting about it and that is not helping anyone.

Not that I know of, I don't think its possible. You'll have to delete some stuff to make room. Things like the wallpaper APK's if you don't use. The touchwiz social things, stock widgets etc. There is plenty you can remove that you probably never use.

i kind of have to agree. its pretty much the same as voice commands already except there is a voice that talks back. however, the talking voice only works on occassions for me on top of it FC and/or lagging. and i've tried every install method possible, it just doesnt seem to like my phone. plus i've noticed it drains the heck out of my battery.

It was wise marketing/defensive move by Samsung. Now a sales person can say if you only want an iPhone because of SIRI you can check out the galaxy s3 as it has more extensive voice commands over other Android phones.

No. They disabled a lot of the dialer codes starting in UVALH2. So the latest official update already had the vulnerability patched. This is often the case when stuff like this gets publicly released. Its usually already addressed. I mentioned it a couple times in the thread someone started yesterday.
As far as im aware the leaks are still 'on hold' for all devices. Still not sure why Samsung did that though!

Just out of curiosity, did you try clicking on a link, or entering the dialer code to test it out?
Im just curious if they actually did disable the dialer code or if they just prevented it from opening by pressing a link.
FYI, I tried the dialer code and it did still initiate the factory reset, BUT, im also running a sort of hybrid, frankensteined rom where ive been playing with different apks from different leaks. I may have changed something that caused it to work for me.
(Im planning to reflash everthing later an will test again anyway, just curious as to your experience). Also what rom and build are you using?

yup, thats pretty much it. Most of the time we wont hear about an exploit or other security flaws until after the problem has a fix. Its just plain poor judgement to basically advertise a major issue before that.

Thanks for specifying that for me. Kinda surprised though since they disabled many of the dialer codes, figured they would've done this one as well. In the end I assumed itd be one of the two, or both. (The disabled codes I keep mentioning are only partially so. You can still execute them via cmd line).

Precursor: I have tried multiple roms both ICS and JB.
Ever since I rooted GB27 after doing all the OTA after getting my referb I can't turn 4G on. The status goes from Unknown to Enabling back to Unknown. I have 3G just fine, can connect to Wifi just fine, just can't enable 4G. Any ideas? I've tried a couple different things I've found here but so far nothing is working. My next step is reflashing my ROM with no external SD card in.
