[Q] Epic and stratosphere screens - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

are these two phones similar enough to physically swap the screens between one and other? I have a stratosphere phone that is a loaner phone and i cracked the screen. I also have an old epic with a good screen so i was hoping someone might know this and save me the trouble of trying it if it doesn't work. Thank you in advance.

Should be its the same size but you have to make sure it fits like depth wise. You could call sprint and verizon to ask?

I've been waiting a week for someone to answer this..

ok I cracked my phone a couple of weeks ago and I bought the screen and the tools, but it doesn't come with an adhesive, so I'm wondering if any one have any suggestions for adhesive? or if any one has replaced their own screen that can help me

Dude, not to be an a$$hole, but you've been asking about this alot, why don't you just take it into a repair center and have them fix it
We're comin from a pure power source.
I know you're like the tenth person!
because I wanna fix it myself all I need is the adhesive

You can use a double sided tape strip from 3M...just cut to the proper size...probably find it at your nearest craft store

You're welcome...I've never personally had to replace my screen, but anytime I've taken things apart (i like to tinker bedside I'm..."that guy") its always appeared to be some sort of ultra thin double sided tape..
Good luck with your endeavor

I can understand wanting to do it yourself, but sometimes its good to let the pros do things. If its not done well, then your takin time and money to do it a second time. Just my opinion. Like I said, I wasn't tryin to be a ****. The screen on our evos is an important thing, ya know

hey, question for you. i'm running cm7 on my evo. android 2.3.3. i love it but i don't have the option to share image on long press when i'm browsing the web. so i have to save the pic and then insert it into a message. am i missing something. i've always had the option to share image on older android versions, or is it the rom? not sure....

To my knowledge you shouldn't need any adhesive to replace the screen on a EVO.. I have never used any and I work as a tech for sprint.. just saying

Why would you ask that here? Entirely unrelated.
And OP, this is like the ninth thread you've started on this subject in the last few weeks. In that amount of time, you could have had someone else fix it right. I'm not trying to be rude either, but you don't seem to know what you're doing... and that's fine. If I needed my screen replaced, I'd probably just let someone that knows what they're doing fix it, because I'm not familiar with it. You didn't even know what adhesive was when someone mentioned it, and you don't know what parts you bought because you lost the info that came with them. These are just points from your other threads - again, I'm not trying to be rude. You've been given numerous links to walkthroughs and yet you keep asking the same questions after they've been answered. I think it's time to take it to a repair center and let them do the work. I think that would yield the best possible outcome.

Umm... Thats the tool they use at Sprint to rip open the EVO. I use it all the time as well. You might try either a smaller driver or a larger one depending on your issue but for the most part that's the one they use in most repair centers.

Yeah unless your replacing just a specific part on the LCD/TS. The just has a screw on the inside that holds the board to the screen and two ribbons. To close it it has plastic latch like things on the housing. Then of course your screws.

Larger screen upgrade possible?

Are replacement screens plug and play? Would it be possible to buy a larger screen and rig it up to fit on the mytouch slide and have it work or is it more complicated than that?

it is much more complicated than that.
you have to find a new digitizer and a screen that's bigger but small enough to fit in the chassis. the phone is pretty compact to begin with, so there's not too much room fit a larger LCD. you'd have to find a LCD that has the same connections to the main board.
you might as well buy a new phone
So if I wasn't concerend with fitting it in the same chasis then all I would need is an lcd with the same type of connection and it would work?
if you're asking these questions, it's likely something you shouldn't be dabbling in...things will likely need to be resoldered, files will likely need to be modified, things will need to be recompiled, debugging will have to take place, etc...
i'm not trying to say you can't do it, it just sounds like you're expecting to go on ebay, buy an old evo screen, connect it, and have a usable phone. this will definately not be the case...there will be A LOT of work involved, and it probably won't work or look the way you want it to...

Honestly, think about it your just better off getting a new phone. The cost and hassle you'd put into even attempting this for minimal gain is just not worth it in the end.
Roms and over clocking re one thing... But what you want to do is really not making any sense. Just out of curiosity, why do this instead of getting another phone?
Would anything like this be possible?

each phone is built to run with certain hardware. Now its not so easy to change this hardware, given space constriction and compatibility. It much different from upgrading your desktop computer for example. It should work if you're not trying to use the same chassis. But what are you trying to do exactly? Turn your phone into a tablet? The battery life would be appalling with a bigger screen. some to think of it, the battery might not produce enough voltage to even power the screen. that might be something you have to change as well
Now that i think of it, does anyone know if it's possible to swap out the processor in the Slide for a beefier one? A snapdragon, perhaps?
I think the phone is simply without fault, but I just wish it could run flash. With an upscale processor, it would run a little smoother and be able to do that

Light leakage, and other stuff

I was wondering if Sprint would replace my evo with light leakage, weak vibrating motor, and it also has like visible dust under the front facing camera.

thanks for the info
Just a thought, ask them to just replace the screen. They usually replace the bezal as well, or at least did on mine. It may cost you $35+tax, but you will still have your rooted evo and not have to wonder about what you get. If they are not busy, it would only take 1/2 hour or so to do. the gyro for the vibration may be another issue, just a thought...good luck!
FYI, they "should" replace it due to those issues, but ONLY if you are in your 1 year warranty. After the one year, sprint doesn't do anything to the phones except update the software. Anything like this after the one year must be done through Asurion.
Well I really don't know if its still in the warranty cus I bought it off eBay and thought that the TEP would cover everything. And for the screen problems and motor, I'm just looking for a new one maybe, free.
And plus I received it with the latest OTA so it doesn't matter cus I don't have root xD

[POLL] does our Nexus really have a defective display? TRY THIS WALLPAPER and VOTE!

hi all.
i think my display is defective. i've read many thread about it but i haven't found anyone describing the same exact issue, very noticeable horizontal lines.
however, since i've also read that someone who sent the phone to samsung, received it back with another defective screen, i'm asking your help.
is this problem, exactly this one, so widespread and i have to live with it or i'm just one of the few and, since it's still under warranty, i should send it to samsung immediatly!? :fingers-crossed:
there are 2 attachments, the wallpaper i ask you to try (it is more noticeable with red, but it appears with most solid colors) and a photo showing how mine looks like, screenshots don't reveal it.
do you see the same effect?
this is not a rom issue, i've experienced it with all the roms i've tryed.
thanks a lot for your help!
Go for it, but that's if Samsung actually won't charge you for it, I feel like they'd claim you damaged it, being the assholes they are, and then charge like $200, in which case you may want to either get a new phone or buy another GalNex from eBay.
Good luck, warranty claim sucks lol

no lines on mine

Sent from my defective Nexus.
Actually this is Samsung screen. I used to have it on my Galaxy S and when screen broke and I got new screen, it was the same like this.Galaxy S3 of my dad has it. my Gnex has it. But not that much. But the lines should be vertical. Your screen is probably messed up because even that is normal, you really have to focus to see this with naked eye. Those lines also appear rarely.
Wow, mine is perfect. I'm awesome (jk)
I could barely see any lines but I do have the horizontal lines. Mine are most noticeable on white backgrounds and stuff, mostly the browser. It bugs me but it doesn't, it's not too bad and it goes away completely with more brightness and gets worse when the screen is really dim.
thank you guys for having shared your experiences... thanks a lot!
let's see if we can increase our significative sample...

[Q] Replacing a Verizon Galaxy Nexus

Hello all!
I read somewhere on the internet (not sure if it was XDA or not) that someone was able to get
their VZW Galaxy Nexus replaced or swapped with a totally different phone.
I've had my Gnex for well over a year so I can't get a Certified Pre-Owned replacement at no cost anymore.
(FYI, I've had it replaced twice due to radio issues)
My current Nexus also has the notorious radio issue (consistently bad signal, signal drop, complete service loss etc..)
and I would like to get it replaced with a different phone. I read somewhere that Verizon would compensate you with a different
phone if you had insurance. Which I do..
So my question is, what phones would they offer as a viable replacement? (hopefully one with better radios and possibly more up to date )
Thanks!
U would need to call the insurance place and ask them.

Will do! I haven't been able to do it. I have free time tomorrow so hopefully I'll get some answers.
It's going to depend on what's in stock at the warehoues. If they have the GN in stock, you are getting a GN. You may be able to get something "similar" if you have had a few GNs replaced, and they have all had issues that are not your fault. But you will need to plead your case. Or you may get something else if there is no stock of the GN in the Asurion warehouses.

Yeah I talked to a rep today at a store and he told me to file a claim at phoneclaim.com. he told me it wasn't Asurion though. But it clearly is. Also, I don't really trust Asurion. I've heard bad news about them. I plan on calling Customer Care tonight after work to get a little more info. The rep seemed kind of ill-knowledged about replacements and such.

Haha that's the thread I got the idea from! It is weird that they'd deprive you of a battery and battery door. I feel like Verizon makes plenty of money. Enough to provide sufficient replacement services. Anyway, I talked to a rep earlier today (actually a tech support rep) and he did a trouble ticket and had "network specialists" check the towers around me. Then they call back and ask me if the problem persists -_- what a drag! The tech rep was really nice. I just think they're afraid to pull some strings for us some (most) of the times..

It's not that they are depriving him of a battery and a door. It's that all insurance replacements are the phone only. When you send the "damaged" phone back, you take out any sd cards, batteries, etc, and just send them the shell. Although I'm pretty sure the Galaxy Nexus I was sent in error when I sent a Droid DNA back did indeed have the battery door, although I never took it out of the sleeve it's shipped in, since I knew I wasn't going to use it.
That's the one good thing about having a non-removable battery...you get the complete phone (in the case of the Droid DNA I had for a bit)

Is this you're first device? I was on my third for radio issues. I just told them I would keep getting replacements all they wanted, one after another until I got a working one. I had to call back once to get a rep who would give me an S3. I have to say the S3 I noticeably snappier, especially noticeable when installing apps. I immediately put CM on the S3 and am a happy camper.
