[Q] ICS Task Manager/Clear Memory exception list? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hey guys, is it possible to create an exception list for the ICS Task Manager. My problem is that whenever I "clear memory" it will close my Widget Locker and I have to go in and restart it. As much as I clear memory in a day thats alot of restarting. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, I don't need recommendations for other task managers, I would like to keep it native.

You shouldn't be frequently clearing memory as is. Android isn't like a Windows Mobile phone. You're supposed to use the task manager in the event of a misbehaving app and thats pretty much it.

So it isn't necessarily a bad thing if the memory bar is full?

I never clear memory. Just use task manager to close open apps. My battery life is great and phone runs like a charm. Just my 2cents

No its not. Those apps are just being stored in cache. They aren't actively using battery (unless its a poorly programmed app). Android should automatically remove the ones that are idle on its own, though. Just let Android do its thing.
If you're really worried about runaway apps, use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDEwOSwiY29tLnpvbXV0LndhdGNoZG9nbGl0ZSJd
Its a different kind of task manager. All it does is monitor what apps are using the most CPU. ONLY kill the stuff it alerts you that are using crazy high CPU processing.

My Pandora doesn't like to multitask on this phone. When I opened xda app, pandora autoclosed. Same thing with camera, and some other apps. My signal is great so whats going on? Lol

Xheck your RAM and check for settings in any task killer/launcher/apps you may be using including pandora if it has a option to close when RAM gets close to none available it will close out the biggest strain...
When did you get your ET4G TODAY?
also make sure you have the newest version of pandora ;p

Yep, I've got no task killer (other than the preinstalled one). Just got the phone today and I got the latest pandora. Maybe once I root it, it'llsolve the problem itself.

Believe I would hold off on root for awhile...seems like some problems right now...

odd problem just happened

this is what just happened!
my phone was on my desk for about an hour of not using, them....my secondary phone rings and someone tells me that my phone is closed. i said, wtf? then....i pressed power button.....nothing......picked it up.....the phone WAS HOTTTTTT at the earpiece area and the camera area and it didnt want to turn on. i removed the battery, then it started and the battery was at 4% from 30% on hour ago!
what was this? anyone else with this?
You were running GPU hungry apps on the background of the phone. Don't worry, just make sure you have a ha bit of closing and deleting apps that you don't need.
i didnt start anything......and how come it was dead....and only started after pulling the battery out!?
Thermal protection.

The way I understand it is this...
Google spends a TON of money developing the Android Platform. It was orginally and continues to pride itself on multi tasking. That said they didn't just forget that programs running in the background could drain the battery. Android manages your apps perfectly and to think they would leave it up to a 3rd party software to assist the OS is a joke. App management software is bad, all bad.
More people come on here asking why their phone suddenly died, and majority of them have app management programs. Don't know if they are causing the issue, but it seems possible.
Hope that helps

Try memory booster lite. But you are better off installing the V6 Supercharger.

Its just not especially Ram Level 2.
Just hit clear memory on the Ram Tab. And kill any unnecessary apps on the active apps tab

its not an app its a script you install through recovery.
if you run AOKP here's the script you can install through Recovery
http://android.mimic.ca/download/cea87b9810cef44d26195600fc22aab6/epic-4g-aokp-milestone-6
just choose the CWM version.
Don't use any. Let android do what it does.

I wish I could like the same post multiple times. So many people ask me how my Epic runs so smooth even after days of uptime and constant use. I answer "with good settings, choosing good apps, and otherwise letting Android do what it's built to do and not changing things assuming I know better".
Sent from my SPH-D700 CM9 4.0.4
so r u saying keep letting it run like poo? because what it is doing is pissing off right now
Try Memory Booster lite or the built in task killer. Just don't keep killing system apps that are going to reload anyway because that will drain your battery. Android on the miniscule amount of memory the Epic has, does not always handle memory correctly and some apps are poorly written and do not release memory and resources.

Same here. I run CM9 RC1 completely stock and let it do it's thing. I'm at 200+hrs uptime and it's still smooth as butter.

As we all know every phone and every user and every configuration is different. Marcusant and Zeinzu both of you have had more than your share of your phones acting different than the majority. It would be more helpful to suggest how to help this guy than brag about how wonderful your phone is. Makes you guys sound like someone else we know. Some phones do not clear memory well and can use help.
OP use some of my suggestions here.

Good Task manager for Andromadus Mimicry 1.5

What's a good task manager that works well, I've tried a few but haven't found something I like yet. Anyone got advice.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
if your thinking of a task manager like a task killer dont use one, really a bad idea for android. if you must use something like watchdog so you dont blindly kill apps. even then when things are set up the way you like it and your sure all is well, i would suggest freezing watchdog as it sits in background itself and wastes cpu.
just do a little google search and youll see what im talking about
Ok, thanks. I'm still learning my way around this ROM and all its bells ans whistles. For some odd reason though I use up a lot of RAM. I have to go and kill apps manually.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Your definition of a lot may differ from mine, this Rom has a supercharger script built in, this along with androids ability to choose what apps to kill is the best way to go. You may have some bad apps that have memory leaks or wake locks. Use watchdog to spy on those and remove them if necessary

How to kill apps running in background?

I have a stock s3 every time I go to kill tasks it shows 49 apps were killed... why is there so much stuff running in background is there a way to stop this without rooting this phone?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
There should be no need. Itws better imo to kill the ones that show up in running that use aldt of ram.
Without rooting? Yes.
Setting, application manager, all, then you can click on certain ones and click disable.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Before you start killing random apps you need to know what they are and why they are running. There are a couple of programs in the play store that tell you if the a problem battery wise. I do not recommend an app killer because all the programs restart eating more battery life each time the restart. Most of them are supposed to be running.
Should stop using task killers, that'll make it worse.
