this is what just happened!
my phone was on my desk for about an hour of not using, them....my secondary phone rings and someone tells me that my phone is closed. i said, wtf? then....i pressed power button.....nothing......picked it up.....the phone WAS HOTTTTTT at the earpiece area and the camera area and it didnt want to turn on. i removed the battery, then it started and the battery was at 4% from 30% on hour ago!
what was this? anyone else with this?
You were running GPU hungry apps on the background of the phone. Don't worry, just make sure you have a ha bit of closing and deleting apps that you don't need.
i didnt start anything......and how come it was dead....and only started after pulling the battery out!?

The way I understand it is this...
Google spends a TON of money developing the Android Platform. It was orginally and continues to pride itself on multi tasking. That said they didn't just forget that programs running in the background could drain the battery. Android manages your apps perfectly and to think they would leave it up to a 3rd party software to assist the OS is a joke. App management software is bad, all bad.
More people come on here asking why their phone suddenly died, and majority of them have app management programs. Don't know if they are causing the issue, but it seems possible.
Hope that helps

I have a weird problem with my phone. Every so often, my phone wjll vibrate twice, in two really short bursts that arent powerful at all. It is completely random. And whenever im playing music, it will stop the music for 5 seconds. If anyone knows what this is it would be greatly appreciated because this is happening on my new phone, as well as my last two galaxy s 2's (ive gotten 3 replacements)

What apps do you have that give off frequent notification? Do you have facebook, friendcaster, word w/f, etc.? Can you give us a small run down?
you can also download betterbatterystats (free here on XDA) and look at what frequently runs perhaps it appears as a wakelock.
or you can always look at logcat

It's a kernel crash. It's a part of android. It usually happens to let you know that it crashed but android reloads where it last left off. Hence the reason for the gap in music. If you press home immediately after you will catch it trying to finish reloading.

Is the same app running every time it happens? It may be a 3rd party app that isn't completely compatible running on your phone. Try deleting any third party widgeta.. then going into your task manager and clearing your memory. Then add one widget at at time til it starts doing it. If it doesn't do it, then open one of your e eryday apps at a time till you have the vibrating again. You may find some crappy lil app that you installed is causing all the problems.

Hey guys, is it possible to create an exception list for the ICS Task Manager. My problem is that whenever I "clear memory" it will close my Widget Locker and I have to go in and restart it. As much as I clear memory in a day thats alot of restarting. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, I don't need recommendations for other task managers, I would like to keep it native.
You shouldn't be frequently clearing memory as is. Android isn't like a Windows Mobile phone. You're supposed to use the task manager in the event of a misbehaving app and thats pretty much it.
So it isn't necessarily a bad thing if the memory bar is full?

No its not. Those apps are just being stored in cache. They aren't actively using battery (unless its a poorly programmed app). Android should automatically remove the ones that are idle on its own, though. Just let Android do its thing.
If you're really worried about runaway apps, use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDEwOSwiY29tLnpvbXV0LndhdGNoZG9nbGl0ZSJd
Its a different kind of task manager. All it does is monitor what apps are using the most CPU. ONLY kill the stuff it alerts you that are using crazy high CPU processing.
I need a good task killer, my phone is freezing and locking up.... other people i know use them and say they work great, i know some dont like them but i dont like pulling my battery several times a day!

I wish I could like the same post multiple times. So many people ask me how my Epic runs so smooth even after days of uptime and constant use. I answer "with good settings, choosing good apps, and otherwise letting Android do what it's built to do and not changing things assuming I know better".
Sent from my SPH-D700 CM9 4.0.4
so r u saying keep letting it run like poo? because what it is doing is pissing off right now
Try Memory Booster lite or the built in task killer. Just don't keep killing system apps that are going to reload anyway because that will drain your battery. Android on the miniscule amount of memory the Epic has, does not always handle memory correctly and some apps are poorly written and do not release memory and resources.

Yeah, you've got something wrong that a task killer won't fix. That's more than abnormal. Either you're running something/everything with bad sync settings... Or some ****e app is runaway.

Wow.. maybe a bad battery? Or Rom?
Running Macksrom.. light usage I'll get 2 days plus out of my phone. Heavy screen and media still get's me 24 hours or more with no charge. This phone I've had no fear of using all that I please when unplugged. The only "task killer" i use is ES Task Manager to control my white list.
Also, that is running overclocked
Like someone said, find the app that's killing your battery and work on that first. I recommend gsam battery. If that doesn't help you then get juice defender. The pro option gives you even more options. There is no need for a task killer on android. The os is made to be as efficient as possible.
Sent from my Amazing Galaxy Note 2!
Battery calibration does nothing. Battery stats are wiped automatically everytime you charge to 100%. Task killers are worse for battery than not using one. Android manages apps just fine on its own, killing them with a task killer just forces the OS to unnecessarily wake up everytime it needs to restart a service. Your best bet is to use better battery stats to find what rogue app is killing your battery and/or using autostarts app to stop things you don't use from starting to begin with.
I like to break stuff!

Best way to charge your phone is a 500mah or 700mah charger. Takes forever to charge but the battery loves it better and gets a much stronger charge. The slower you charge the longer it lasts. Whenever I go to sleep I plug it into my pc

Well, it's pretty obvious the advantages of rooting a phone. Titanium Backup being probably one of the biggest reasons in addition to Ad Blocker apps. The ability to theme or mod certain things that maybe you couldn't do otherwise. So, that's why. Yes she does mostly text and call and Facebook but she has a lot of apps and things to restore and rooting it makes it easy. Not that it's any of your business anyways.
Life Lesson: listen first and speak second. There is often a good reason for something. You may never have thought of.
Now, she does have the camera widget which was my first thought, but she says that's not it.... And it opens other times as well.
