Hi everyone, i'm having this "It sucks to be me" situation right now.
After i read an article about the 4.0 ice cream sandwich update for xperia play on zip by DoomLord,
i tried it and i followed the steps but then my xperia never got passed the logo!
I tried everything but nothing helped, so then i was looking for the UK Generic 184. ftf to flash my phone with it but
EVERY SINGLE LINK (i tried) IS BROKEN. So i used the "LT15i 4.0.2.A.0.42 Generic Global" i found on a forum hoping it could save me but that made it only worse.
Now my Xperia wont show anything at all.
Can someone please help?

I have a locked bootloader sorry for not mentionin it earlier. However does this mean i'm screwed?
I recently installed PC Companion and conected my phone with usb and it showed Xperia Arc
and since its the newest version i flashed, it says there are no availabe updates for me. Do i need an old version and if so please give me a link...
You flashed a Xperia Arc (LT15i) firmware. Of course it won't boot. Flash a Play (R800i) firmware and you'll be fine.
Your initial mistake was trying to flash a rom which is dependent on a specific kernel. If you'd read the first post of the rom thread you'd have seen that you need to flash the included kernel. Because your bootloader is locked you can't flash kernels so the rom didn't boot.
To fix your phone you need to flash a .ftf for Play. The one you flashed was for Arc. I haven't got a working link on hand but if you keep searching the forums you'll find one eventually. You can also use PC companion or wotanserver
reflash via wotan
Thank you all for the quick replies, however i finally fixed my problem!
I visited Xperiagamer.com and they have all the available R800i & R800a firmwares.
So yeah i downloaded the 2.3.4 SE STOCK and flashed it and now my phone works again... I feel good~

So i have an Orange Xperia Arc S. I called them, they gave me the network unlock code, i unlocked the phone. But when i go into settings it still says bootloader unlock not allowed.
My question is, can i still root it now that i have unlocked the code so i can use ICS?
thank you
why you want to root? for your info, no need root and unlock bootloader to use ICS rom. but if you wanna try custom rom, you must unlock bootloader to flash the ROM n kernel
i dont want a custom Rom, i just want to install the official ICS .
How can i install that without unlocking the bootloader?
Update through the Sony Companion tool on your PC if the ICS has been release for your area.
thats the problem, i dont wanna wait a few months til it comes available through my provider. I downloaded the generic file.. how do i go about installing on my Arc?

Correct me if im wrong but it is possible to use ics by flashing it using flashtool. Plus, using flashtool doesnt require root or unlock bootloader...
However if u are using an arc and not arc s, it is not recommended to use the ics firmware of arc s coz there is some issue regarding touch screen...

You could use FLASHTOOL to flash the original ICS for ARC S from sony that's doable.
Look in Dev section for binary post about ics Nordic all info in there.

If I am correct the big pack 3.1 Is not for ics, it is only for gb.
To install cwm you need root.

Root for 4.0.4 has not come out yet, man. Recovery can not be installed without root.
I'm using android 4.0.3 and my phone is rooted ,I tried to install cwm with the cwm official app and it still doesnt work

Root for 4.0.4 Xperia Arc/ Arc S was out a while ago. One must downgrade the kernel, root and then upgrade it.
try to put your drive into flashmode and flash back to a stock rom/kernel and try install the big pack on an GB rom!
First of all, go to this forum and download the LT15i 4.0.4 update for your phone. I suggest Generic Global World.
Flash it using the latest version of Flashtool (v0.8.6.0). Check the No Final Verification box. Welcome to the correct build of ICS for your phone. LOL!
Now you've already downloaded the LT18's 4.0.3 ftf previously. Using Flashtool, just flash the kernel alone of the 4.0.3 build. Make sure you exclude everything else. The 4.0.3 kernel is rootable using the zergrush exploit.
Once that's done, flash back the 4.0.4 kernel. Again making sure to exclude everything else other than the kernel.
And there you go, you have a rooted 4.0.4. After this, go download pvyParts' Xperia CWM Auto-Installer from the market.
That should solve your problem. You should have no issues with CWM after that. (Maybe except a slight offline charging issue. )

Sorry, my bad. I misquoted. I meant to say use DooMLorD's Rooting Toolkit for ICS.
EDIT: I take that back. The Rooting Toolkit DOES use the zergrush exploit.

Hey guys,
I have a Sony Xperia Pro MK16a and I'm waiting for the ICS update. I'm tired of waiting so I searched it up on Google and I came across a thread in a website that says how you can manually update it with Flashtool and the ICS ftf file. Thing is that the file is named "mk16i_4.1.B.0.431_ready to root.rar" and since I have a mk16a, is it safe if I flash it onto my phone? I have a locked bootloader and I'm rooted. Also, if I can update that way, do I need the the ICS kernel, baseband or anything? Any help is greatly appreciated
That ready to root which website you got it ?

Both have different radio/basebands and flashing a MK16i ROM on a MK16a may make you have problems with Phone Calls/Data Usage.
So no, you'll have to wait.
EDIT: Wait no more, ameer's thread has the ROM for MK16a: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642480
Dunno if this work with OverLo4d/AeonWorld tutorial, but you can root it with Bootloader Unlocked with RootXperia.zip.

He has a xperia pro mk16a from fido his bootloader is locked and cannot be unlocked so hes wondering if its possible to grab a stock ics firmware and flash it whit flashtool...
Since ameers thread has it for the mk16a does he need still a official ics kernel or baseband or anything else ? Or he can straight flash it and ready to go..

Still, there's the testpoint way to unlock bootloader, but inexperienced users (like myself) won't be able to do it.

Really ? Could you link me to the thread please...

I tried researching for the thread but couldn't find it.
I know you can pay someone with the correct Box or Dongle to unlock it with SETool, but there's a DIY thread with the use of S1Tool that I think it's for free.
Just couldn't find the tutorial, sorry.

The ftf (flashable via flashtool) on my thread includes kernel and baseband. So you do not have to flash them separately.
Hi i have a question which you have most prob answered 100,000 times. Rooting Arc LT15i, 4.0.2.A.0.62 (USB debugging on). Computer OS win8 SDK tools installed
I have been reading alot about doing this for months and now i have read so many tutorials ect. about it i have now confussed myself about it
I am downloading at the moment a.0.42 gen global and i have already installed flashtool and then run doomlord v4 to root then use OTA to update to .62 is this correct? also do i need to install a custom rom/kernal and unlock bootloader becuase i have never touched the phone
I just need a tutorial which works if you understand

Use testpoint to unlock..
Nope you don't have to unlock your bootloader to root your phone by the way

He's asking for GB root. Root method is different on GB than ICS, therefore those instructions won't help him.

trying to install ultimate hd 2.0.3, rom manager first loads to a point i can hardly read it and when i go to flash it says unsupported device so i installed it via project x install finished rebooted and phone, turned back on like normal and not into recovery mode, does this mean i have to unlock the bootloader

Did you press the volume button on booting as is required to boot into CWM unless the ROMs power options support rebooting into it?

I answered in eXistenZ already (why are you asking this is in different places at once btw, impatient much?), but now I'm on my pc so I can give you a few links. Pc Companion won't be able to install an update on an unlocked bootloader, even if your kernel is stock. You can use EMMA, it's pretty much the same, downloads the latest firmware for your region and installs it (but I think there's no automated backup, so it'll wipe your phone, you need to prepare a backup yourself). You can find EMMA here: http://developer.sonymobile.com/services/flash-tool/. It's possible that EMMA says the latest available firmware is .200 or .211, but try it anyway because it might install .96. I had this when the JB update was being rolled out, EMMA stated the latest firmware was .50 but it installed .200.
If EMMA doesn't install .96, it's possible this update hasn't rolled out in your region yet. I think you better select the firmware yourself... Why don't you just flash DooMLorD's advanced stock kernel for .96 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2302393) and flash the deodexed zip version (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2425192&highlight)? Or if you just want stock, why don't you flash the ftf?

I'm sorry I actually was in a bit of a hurry... Well I tried EMMA and as u stated it installed .200 so I'm downloading the ftf now.. I'm a bit worried about bricking my phone, though.
Thanks anyway and sorry for the inconvenience.
