E:Can't Mount /cache/recovery/log

If that doesn't work, odin a stock rom such as el29, then Odin a custom el29 kernel, reboot into recovery, wipe data/factory, cache and dalvik, then restore nandroid, reboot.

What rom/recovery were you using when you tried to restore the backup? It sounds like you tried to restore from an ICS kernel.....broke your data partion and now nothing will flash.
If this is the case, you will need to flash one of the nodata tars from sfhub to return to stock and take it in to sprint for a replacement.
After that i get
E: Update logfile does not exist
Deleting Cryption Meta Data
#Manual Mode#
--Updating Application...
E: check_point2: /data/app is not directory
Installing apks.
Sucessfully updated application
Then it reboots and doesn't even make it to the boot animation. Just turns off.

Yeah, now you know for next time. You gotta flash a GB kernel with GB recovery before you can restore a GB backup, or else what you described in the OP will be the result.
Don't feel bad... LOTS of people, including a dev or two, have done the same thing with CM9 and ICS flashes.

I have been told not to use any ics kernel to do anything...backups, wiping , or flashing. Don't trust it ... People have bricked just by wiping with them . Sucks to not be able to back up and flash but for now that's what it is ... Be careful and cut down on apps and such so it doesn't take as long to set up ROM and flash away...

My noobishness knows no bounds. I am new to flashing, just talked myself into rooting and flashing my Epig 4G. Everything worked perfectly (kennyglass123 thanks for your work!), got to CM9beta4, but I realized some of my data was missing. So, I tried to restore my NANDROID image containing the rooted FC09 via the CWM restore menu, but I started out with the same error lines that started this thread, and I cannot restore any of the backups, it says:
E:format_volume: format_rfs_device failed on /dev/block/st19
Error while formatting /system!
I was hoping the process you mentioned might fix something, however the only thing for which I used Odin was to put CWM 5.0.2.7 on it, then I used the recovery menu to install the pre-rooted FC09. I have no idea how to do what you just said, not do I know what a PIT file is. Please guide me!
Side note, I have seen people talking about the filenames having wrong information...my backup filenames show a time 4 hours before the actual time of the backup, but I haven't seen anyone be able to tell me if changing it does anything?

When you flashed CM9 it changed your partition table and file system. Plus TW backups (FC09) from cwm are incompatible with CM9. Reflash CM9 to rwstore your recovery and do not use ROM manager without setting it up manually to use the MTD CWM that comes with CM9 and do not change your recovery...it is built into the operating system

Hey guys I was following ckpv5 way to revert to stock but it told me error 105 or 155 anyway now I booted the phone but how can I reflash the recovery or boot if the bootloader is locked?? What should I do please help I beg you guys please help
I never lie to any man because I don’t fear anyone. The only time you lie is when you are afraid
Err... re unlock the bootloader with the Unlock_code.bin that received from HTC when you first root your device ?
In fastboot mode type :
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
it isnt with me anymore
Don't you keep the e-mail that they sent you? Check your e-mail client.
If not, try to apply again at http://www.htcdev.com/
i was going to do that but i wanted to ask first because once i saw you saying to someone after flashing YOUR rom to not do a factory reset .btw i am using ur rom rc3.2 so it dowsnt matter if while im unlocking the bootloader the data is gonna be deleted?????
Then you remember wrongly as that was a different case as he wipe after flashing ROM, so his device was not booting.
After unlocking, when it want to reboot, don't allow that and make it boot to bootloader, flash CWM recovery and make nandroid backup. After restart, if you will lose everything, then just make a nandroid restore. Common sense my friend.
Gotta go now.... sleeping time, good night.
Thank you very much for your help.but I'm having this problem that when I boot into cms it keeps on telling me can not mount log cannot mount cache and other things

Both, the ported Touch CWM and the Cwm 5.8.4.5 offical [GSM VERSION NON CDMA] have the same error.

Direct booting from desktop to recovery with APM or QuickBoot, no such error.
But backup and restore, I have no problem so it is not a big thing for me.
Hmm... maybe those are from my own wrong doing ??

You're in brick city... AOKP 32 with recovery kernel wasn't "safe" yet, if that's what u had or if u tried flashing in "stock" kernel that came with it (wasn't meant to flash anything within that recovery) . You should have went back to el26 cwm prior to trying to go to any ICS builds.

I told you. You're phone is bricked... Sorry but if you can't wipe data or when u do and get an error, it's because the emmc got messed up aka BRICK.
Sorry that you're bricked. Hope you get a replacement soon.
Edit: Here is where u made your mistake I'm guessing... If you were not on a GB based kernel with CWM prior to wiping data in cwm OR installing AOKP for that matter, then that is where it caused the issues.. That's why we were waiting on ICS source till we could get rid of the EMMC bug that was causing bricks.

Hi guys,
I'd like to ask you about updating CWM.
I have Slim Bean v.3.0 rom with their kernel and until today I've had 5.0.2.7 CWM Recovery.
I updated it few hours ago to 6.0.1.9. After that, in Recovery, I noticed 4 errors when doing anything, those are:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
I changed my Recovery to any other but 5.0.2.7 and in each I got same errors.
Wiping cache not only didn't help, it actually didn't work, freezed when used.
Now I came back to 5.0.2.7 but I need to ask - why does it happen? Is there any solution?
Are you using darkside scripts? They break any cwm above 5027
I'm still on 5.0.2.7 and have no intentions in switching.

Actually I do. Moreover, while having 6.0.1.9 I used darkside's cache wipe to check what will happen.
And nothing (fortunately? ) happened. After.. 80%? the installation was aborted and so I after that I changed back to 5.0.2.7.
But there was no cwm bricking or breaking.
TWRP.. well I could try using it but will it be save to install it? I mean, I don't know the reason of those errors so I'm not sure if TWRP will install correctly..
I have been having this issue with CWM ever since I updated CWM, and I can't figure out how to solve it. I'm running CWM v 6.0.4.5 and Slim Kat 3.8(don't want to update until problem is fixed).
Errors:
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
I've searched and found a few solutions:
1) unmount and mount SD card(didn't work)
2) go back to stock (my last resort)
3) wipe cache(didn't work)
There's a lot of threads about this issue, but I can't really find a solution and most cases their S3 can't boot while mine runs perfectly fine. Any advice would be appreciated.
Helps if you tell us exactly what you want to do, and exactly what you are doing and have done.
All I can say from your posted info is can you not just mount /cache and then access the files located on it? Did you try going back to the previous version recovery? Have you given TWRP a shot? Why are you trying to mount the individual files/folders? Maybe I missed something, but Im not sure what you are trying to accomplish.....
Those errors appear when I enter CWM without doing anything. It started appearing after updating my recovery and flashing Slimkat.
Woops, it's actually:
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log

Oh, well thats weird! I would try a previous version of CWM, try TWRP, and/or try a different kernel.

CWM does that. It's harmless.
I'm pretty sure the issues I had with d2tmo TWRP have been fixed, safe to recommend. Switch to TWRP. Also good ROM choice.
